If you've ever done a workout in the rain, you realize it's still way more invigorating than being indoors. I'm excited to have found this spot, and am hopeful it will whip me back into shape.

I joined mid-November, and have lost as much weight as I've lost in 6 months of WeightWatchers (and…read moreI love WeightWatchers, but really needed a consistent workout routine). Plus, I've been getting my muscles back. So exciting! This is such a great fitness program, and the instructors and participants make it easy to be there at 6 a.m., in the cold, dark Seattle fall. Across the board, everyone is incredibly friendly and inclusive. It's not a bunch of brides trying to look good for their big day (which is great! this would be your ticket!); it's mostly fit moms who are committed to long-term health and fitness. I feel closer to my community, which is a hugely unexpected and positive consequence. I've been going 3 days a week at 6 a.m. at the Phinney Neighborhood Center parking lot, and some Saturdays at 8 a.m. at Golden Gardens. And, really, this is good for any fitness level. I could barely keep up the first week, and I've come a long way in the past month. Each workout is different and challenging, and the hour flies by.

Everyone at the front desk without fail welcomes the customers with a warm smile. Regulars are treated as special guests, chatted up about classes, asked about their day. High spirits prevail. It's more like we're walking into a birthday party. I'm amazed each time with something as simple as a check-in process. Keeping up this level of customer service awareness takes more than just training. It take courage from the managers. The trainers take time to get to know the students, and not just our names either. Throughout class, they encourage, they motivate, they get the best out of us, which isn't always easy forty-five minutes into a one-hour intense boot camp. We're lucky to have such a welcoming place here in Seattle, where customer service and warmth are occasionally hard to find.

As documented in email communication, one daughter tried to cancel the account on the Trufusion by calling and the website, but it did not work. So finally your staff acknowledged that the system was not working, and agreed to cancel her membership in December, but would not refund the $160 charged since she left in August. As your documentation shows, our other daughter called two times to change her membership. Our daughter asked to cancel, but your staff put her membership on hold without informing her of the monthly charge and automatic reinstatement of a large monthly charge. Both girls left the state in August and would not have agreed to continue to pay $11 monthly fees and a $130 automatic renewal fee since they do not live here. We now have paid approximately $500 since August when both daughters left the state and neither has used their membership since then. So .. no.,, they are not happy withTrufusion. And my warning to others continues, get every effort to cancel your membership in writing and document your conversations.

Kimae has the nerve to tell you she's a former father person, then looks you right in the face and…read moresays "Yea, I don't think I can help you." Yes, she refunded my money, but fat shaming from a personal trainer is wild to me. If you want to tone up and are skinny this may work for you, but if you fat and really want to lose significant weight, look for a different program. There are trainers/coaches out there that have no issues with modification and working with you where you are NOW. Kimae isn't one of those people. It has taken YEARS of therapy and finding the right kind of coach to be even able for me to say anything about the treatment I received at her hands....which is SO messed up because I really did like the way she would break down an exercise. She would explain how a specific movement would work which muscles. And I was truly learning a lot. That's why I was caught off guard when I was told me she couldn't help me.

My partner and I started bootcamps at around the same time, he chose a former athlete trainer who…read moreis an NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist with an indoor facility and equipment. I went with Kimae's bootcamp thinking that certification didn't matter and having an all women outdoor bootcamp would give camaraderie and be nice for summer. From her website Kimae states she is certified in holistic fitness coaching and group training through the CHEK Institute. For some reason though she is not listed anywhere on the CHEK website as a trainer. From the start our bootcamps were very different, my partner's bootcamp class size averaged 10-15 students where as Kimae's is 40-60 students as she runs two classes at once for newbies and returnees. That is where the problems lay. With that many students Kimae is understandably overwhelmed, unable to check form or field questions. Half of the class time you are running laps as she gives instruction to the other group and then sends them off to run laps as she gives instructions to your group. My partner's bootcamp is entirely devoted to specific exercises that build on each other and each student is given adjustments to their form as they exercise. She is unable to meet the goals of her advertising from her website. More then half of the class miss the instruction she gives for the next set of exercises and have to ask each other. It is very difficult to ask a question as there are just too many participants. She had one entire set of class exercises taken from a magazine page which she emailed the link for. That was embarrassing for me compared to the specific workouts my partner was getting in his bootcamp. She has a weekly statement of nutrition advice she gives everyone and is unable to get more personalized then that. She canceled our group's second week calls and failed to provide the promised food diary feedback via email. After experiencing a mild ankle sprain and asking about the makeup policies, any suggestions for working around the sprain during the 2 weeks off needed for healing and requesting the nutrition food diary feedback she promised now 2 weeks late, Kimae then sent an email with a fake header saying it was from one week prior but she failed to check the reference ID's in the message source, and then she dropped me from the rest of the session and refunded my class fee telling me to sign up with another trainer. I took her suggestion and will now be working with my partner's trainer. I do hope she can run her business in a more sustainable and less shady way and provide a better service then what she is doing. Clients are more likely to continue working with you if you are honest about your mistakes. For anyone considering the bootcamp my advice would be to skip this one, there are better bootcamps in Seattle with more knowledgeable trainers.

I'm solidly into middle age (eek!) and trying to keep in shape just gets harder every year! Staying motivated and making time around a crazy family schedule can be tough. But, I know when I head over to MAX 10 for class that I'm going to work hard, have fun and that it's MY hour. I love the fact that I really forget about the 3 different carpools I need to coordinate, the homework that needs to be done, what I'm going to make for dinner that won't cause my kids to revolt, etc.... It's an intense hour and no time for the mind to wander! Classes each vary a little. Some days you work mostly on the bag, others with a partner.... boxing, kicking, core exercises, cardio ... you get some of each in every class. I particularly like the T/Th classes that focus mainly on strength training. Using weights, medicine balls, kettle bells, TRX... I'd let that area of my fitness slip considerably over the last few years and I'm back on track now. The instructors are all fantastic! Thoroughly explaining the different drills and proper form and keeping it moving. And, if you're like me and have issues with certain moves they are always able to give an alternative. The other thing I like about this program and this gym is that everyone is very friendly and supportive. Never done any martial arts?... don't worry. Haven't worked out in years?... that's ok. You will be able to jump into class and get moving right along with everyone else. Maybe you're really fit but looking to try something different... you'll be challenged. Give it a try!
