A great first experience at Fitzgeralds. Ricky is the first one who gladly answered my call and quoted my service to be about 330$ and walked me through every step and the multiple questions I had for him about my 2005 Prius. I ended up going with a oil change and a trans fluid drain and fill. The owner also did explain so much to me about my car in a straight forward and honest way it was crazy to hear honestly. I highly recommend this place bc of their honesty and pricing. They are accommodating to say the least. After my service was done, they actually let me know it only ended up costing 200$ less than the original quote! They are not out to get your money and they will take the time to explain and teach certain things to you if you have lots of questions. They are honest and fair priced. Of course I can really only speak for my Prius but I definitely recommend if you have a Toyota Prius this is a good place for your questions and maintenance. read more

I went here for an oil change because it had good reviews on service and price. It exceeded my expectations, John was very helpful and polite. My car had been jittery and was making me nervous and the inspection showed photos of my tires bald to the metal. I knew I needed new tires and it was not an upsell, I just moved so my budget is tight. John said he wouldnt feel right sending me back on the road with tires in that condition and genuinely seemed concerned enough to help by making a couple calls for an amazing deal I couldn't refuse. Then had someone go pick up the tires so I could drive safely for my work commute. My car is running super smooth and I feel safe on the road without worry. STAY AWAY!!! Do yourself a favor, go to ANY other shop. There's so many other reputable and honest shops out there. I used to go to this shop years ago, and loved the service. But their customer service has really taken a turn for the worse dramatically. And that's an understatement. I used to deal with a guy named Ricky and he was the best. Best customer service I've ever dealt with from a auto repair shop, I truly felt as if he cared about my needs. And I wasn't just getting ripped off and taken advantage of. But since then, I've gone back and dealt with a guy named Robert; if you ever call or go there and have to deal with him. PLEASE ask to speak with someone else, I've taken my car there. And been lied to about issues with my car, had issues blown WAY out of proportion, making small issues seem like big issues, I looked at the inspection sheet they gave me after my visit and was absolutely disgusted that they would sell me on things they had listed at a "1" i was told my air filters were bad, but the inspection sheet said they were at a 1, my tires said they were at 8's and 9's and Robert said my tires were a safety hazard telling me they were bald. What a joke. They need to raise their standards for service writers, Robert is the kind of service writer that gives auto repair shops a bad name, and scares people away from going to shops in fear of worrying they will get ripped off and sold on things they dont need. I will NEVER bring my car back to them. I'd rather take my car to the dealer than come back here. Head my warning, and if you for some reason HAVE to bring your car here, ask to deal with someone other than Robert, He's a crook, and ask for pictures thay can verify anything they try selling you, ask to see the proof. TLDR: Do not go here. Go to literally any other repair place. I went to Harbor Auto 1 mile away and got the problem diagnosed and repaired in 1 day for 1/10th of the cost. One of the worst experiences I've had at an auto repair shop. I called in for help with my 2009 Toyota Camry (34,000 miles) which had overheated and was leaking coolant. Fitzgeralds told me if i brought my car in that night (Friday) they could try to look at it the next day. I get a call from Dan on Saturday saying the engine was damaged and would cost $3-3.5k to fix. He told me I could think about it and wait till Monday to decide. On Monday I called back to try and get a written estimate and then schedule the repair. I mentioned Dan gave me a ballpark estimate on Saturday and I was hoping for a more official written one. John said "well I can tell you Dan's been doing this for a long time and that estimate is probably not a ballpark but rather accurate." John on the phone asked for my email and said they would send it over by end of the day or tomorrow (Tuesday). End of Tuesday I call Fitzgerald after never receiving an estimate (or a phone call) and they say "Oh I tried to call you earlier but we have bad news. I misspoke on Saturday and didn't realize this was a 6 cylinder engine. So this will be twice the cost due to twice the labor and parts. We could also replace the whole engine but that will also be expensive." I then asked them to send over the estimate so I can look it over. He asked for my email, which I already gave them, and said he'd send it over right away. I never received the estimate. Wednesday morning I decided I better rescue my car from these incompetent misogynistic jerks and take it to get a real diagnosis. When I showed up on Wednesday, John told me I had an invoice for the diagnosis. I said "I'm surprised there is a fee since the final diagnosis was never given". Because I was desperate to get out of there I paid the fee and on the invoice receipt I can see they had misspelled my name and misreported my odometer reading (written: 74,000 actual: 34,000). I was shocked that they had the 6 cylinder engine on there. The invoice reads "Possible blown motor. Customer declines repairs. $160." I am unclear what the repairs were as I was never given a written estimate or an explanation of what needed to be done. I towed my car to Harbor Auto a mile away and the nice mechanics there were very explanatory of the problem. They fixed it within a day for $900. It is clear by some of the other reviews of Fitzgeralds that they are rude, inefficient, & take advantage of people, specifically women. read more

I brought my son's car to this place as the window was malfunction. After I paid $169 for ' listening for noise on window operations' the quote came in with additional $900. in all fairness they did open up the interiors as well, but what truly got me is how expensive the quote was. It was obvious that they were not happy with my decision and the promise to get the door put get back together went all at once from 30 min to end of day. I took the car next day to Pep boys and it got done at less than half the quote.... Just stunning I see a fair amount of very positive reviews but can't share these sentiments at all. read more

Very dishonest people! Few years ago, I went to them to replace the battery. What they said is I should try checking the battery for $60 ish (don't remember the price exactly). Then in 2 minutes after they put the meter to the battery and found out battery was bad. Replaced battery there and they charged me the battery price + $60 for battery testing with their machine with takes like 20 seconds. Plus their battery is way more expensive than Costco or WalMart. read more

Going into Fitz is like stepping into the days gone by friendly integrity of 50 years ago. There should be an option of negative stars! 2021-04-27: I took my vehicle here and was charged $375, (three hours shop time, they claimed to have spent far more time than that), the only thing I got out of it was their invoice listing everything I TOLD THEM was wrong plus one item I didn't know about, (but they DIDN'T fix). They called me on 2021-04-28 with zero work done. Their estimate states in writing that they "advised [me] of the million dollars worth of issues..."... Really? $1,000,000.00's worth? I went on 2021-04-29 to pick up my vehicle expecting to pay for an hour, (based on my assumption that they didn't do anything; which they didn't), but had to get a ride from one of their techs back to my house to get more cash. (note to self, NEVER pay cash!!!) I filed a complaint with the BAR, (Bureau Automotive Repair), and their investigator was lied to and told I was only charged for 1 hour ($125), despite my having a printed invoice in their letterhead stating $375... they bald-faced lied to the inspector! It's obvious now they did not want to work on my vehicle, but instead of being honest and stating that right off, they accepted it in so they could steal money from me. Liars and thieves... Went to Fitzgerald inquiring on diagnostics for engine failure on my Chevy Van, after a $360 diagnostic fee for two hours of work I was stunned. Their report indicated it was a faulty sensor and would be an additional $400 to replace. After a thought out decision my partner and I decided against the repair. Curios if we could take on the project ourselves, we googled the specifics of this sensor, at a cost of $60 for the part and 20 minutes of our time we got the van up and running like brand new again. As a young women I felt taken advantage of and am incredibly disappointed by their integrity to do honest work at fair prices. read more

2nd time Sal & Sam from South Coast Auto repaired recommended I go to Fitzgerald's because my 38 year old truck once again did not pass smog test and they figured out replacing the oxygen sensor would take care of the problem. I was told by their testing it could have also be related to the catalytic converter and appreciated their honesty. Stumbled in here accidentally while trying to go to a nearby auto shop. My car wasn't starting for a few days and when it finally did, the check engine light was on. When I came in and explained my predicament, there was no BS. He immediately did the test to see why my check engine light was on, and took the time to explain everything in layman's terms that even I could understand. At the end of the day, there really was nothing wrong. He sent me on my way, and told me the light should go off by itself, which it did. Very honest. My brakes were acting strange and I was convinced I needed new brake pads and routers. I had an amazing experience at Fitzgeralds. The engine alert light came on and my car was running rough. I took it to two different mechanics and talked to two more over the course of a week. No one could find the problem. They were talking about a problem in one of the valves and opening up the engine for repair and machining parts, costing me thousands of dollars. One guy even mentioned getting a new engine. One mechanic referred me to Fitzgeralds. They took the car and a few days later called me to tell me it was ready. They ran some treatment through the engine, made a bunch of adjustments and the problem is solved. Only cost me three hundred bucks. I have never been so happy with a mechanic. Took my car in because it wasn't going past a certain speed limit. They performed the "routine diagnostic scan" which tells you what is wrong with the car. They told me what they thought the issue was so I agreed to get it fixed. A few days later car is ready, I pay close to $700 only for the car to have the same problem less than a week later. All the person explained was that it may be a transmission problem and gave me an estimate on the labor price(over $1500). They did not offer any sort of refund or want to deduct any amount from the total of what it would cost to fix the "other problem". So, $700 down the drain. $10 coupon to a restaurant that I was given when I paid should work as a bandaid I guess.. Look around before considering this shop. read more

I took my car there, out of extreme necessity, as the window was not closing and I have many tools inside it. The attendant said it would cost about $300.00 plus parts if needed. I took the opportunity and asked them to fix the shift, the attendant asked me if it was loose and said yes and that it was difficult to get the position right to start the car. When they called about the window problem, it was so expensive that I just asked them to have the window up and they charged me an additional $128.00. absurd!!! when I went to get the car, I saw that the shift was not getting in the correct position and when ask the supervisor he told me that was charged was just for tightening and not for putting it in the correct position, and therefore I would have to pay extra. hahaha!!! Expensive place, time consuming, waste of time and money to take the car there. At the end, the attendant still comes with the consolation prize: a $10 discount card at a restaurant.... what a joke!!! read more

Had my 1989 econoline brought to Fitzgerald's last Tuesday 1/15/20, after getting the recommendation from AAA. My vehicle wasn't starting and it seemed like the starter had failed. After complaining to me several times how busy they were that day and how inconvenient my van was, they told me my starter replacement would cost $329 (asinine). They then called me back about 5 minutes later. When I answered and said "Hey, how's it going?" The man on the other end said "I'm good, but you're not." Regardless of the circumstances, I found that to be an unprofessional thing to say to someone you're giving bad news to. He then told me my engine had completely seized. I was devastated and had AAA pick the van back up. A friend of mine who's a mechanic told me to bring the van to his shop. It's not actually fair to call him a mechanic the way the guys at Fitzgerald's are mechanics, he works for Ford/Shelby building vintage race cars. So I brought the van to him at Carroll Shelby's old shop in Gardena. He asked a few guys around his shop, and it seemed to be VERY common knowledge that when a Ford starter of this type fails in the engaged position, it tends to lock up the motor. He removed the starter and the engine turned over great. Threw in a new starter ($130) in about 25 minutes if I'm being modest. Van started and ran beautifully. The guys working at Shelby then stood around and laughed for awhile, trying to determine if the guys at Fitzgerald's are incompetent, or just liars (oh yeah, after their incorrect diagnosis, they charged me $73 for the privilege). I hated having to bother my friends with my van issues, as they are true masters of their craft and usually deal with Mustangs and Cobras in their 9-5. It's because of them I drive a Ford. Even though the guys at Fitzgerald's aren't on their level (not even close), everyone I spoke to was astonished they swindled me out of $73 for doing NOTHING. Many didn't believe they actually thought the engine was seized and just wanted to get my van out of their shop, or get lucky and get me to pay $5k for a rebuild. Glad a lot of people have had good experiences here, but they basically screwed me out of $73. Will tell anyone who'll listen not to bring their business here. read more
