I can't say enough good things about Mikes Costa Mesa Auto Service. I was traveling from Northern California to visit my daughter when I broke my front suspension, needing to ball joints, hubs, and control arms replaced. I had my car towed in that night and put the keys in the key drop. I called them at 9 AM when they opened the next day and explained the situation. I told them that I would really like to leave for home that evening. Mike was very thorough and showed me exactly what was going with the vehicle. He was able to replace all the parts and have my car ready by 5 PM. I simply picked it up and drove safely home 400 miles. I have also had Mikes replace a starter on my daughter's car this year. I met Mike and his father Mike and his brother works there also. They are the nicest and cleanest most competent mechanics, which creates such a pleasant experience. I feel they are honest and do a fantastic job. If everyone ran their business, as well as this family, life would be much easier. If you live in the area, or have a kid going to school in the Orange County area, Mikes Auto was a great place to get your repair done. I brought my 18yr car in to get a new alternator. I wasn't "upsold", on anything else. Most mechanics would have tacked on a few more repairs on a car this old. And, my battery died while it was still under warranty with AAA, but they didn't want to give me a new one, just "charge" the bad one. They had my back with the AAA guy and I got a new battery. They made me stop fearing taking my car in to be repaired bc I know I won't be ripped off, and they are a pleasure to do business with. read more

Honest mechanic!! My brakes were squeaky and I came to Mikes because he had a fair quote and said he could do the inspection and work same day. Once the inspection was completed Mike was upfront and let me know it wasn't quite time to replace anything yet and gave me an estimate as to when I should come back for that service. He was patient and answered all of my questions and was professional throughout. I was thoroughly impressed by the honesty and friendly customer service here. I was the third person there at 8:45, needing an oil change. Mike remembered me from previous visits (for oil changes, brakes and other work). He said he could do it first thing, so I waited for for about 45 minutes and was in and out of there within a little over an hour from the time I got there! I have a 2006 Nissan frontier. After having problems with my engine overheating, I came to mikes where they replaced my coolant reservoir and heater hose for a very reasonable price. I've had Mike work on my BMW throughout the years. He has his son working there now and I asked him about the pricing on a part for my car and he got upset. That was 10 years ago so I decided to give them a try since they are a local business. I went in the shop today and asked if Mike was there, his SON said I know you and we don't want your businesses. I said really, and asked if I should talk to his Dad. The owners Son said no, we are not going to help you. I've never had a business tell me to go away, ever?? I had a great experience at Mike's. I called them this morning because my car was having some issues and they told me to come in. I brought my car in right away and they were able to do the diagnostic test immediately. They found a loose battery cable and tightened it but told me that, unfortunately, I needed to take my car to Mazda to have the computer issue fixed. I have been going here for decades, and I trust these guys implicitly. My uncle referred me to them and he had been going to them for decades prior to telling me about it. They are honest, courteous, and kind, and good at what they do. I don't feel like I'm being upsold or persuaded to have unnecessary services or labor added to what my car needs. Their prices are reasonable and clear. Once, Mike's son informed me that I likely needed an issue repaired that had seemed to come up a lot with my particular make and model, and I called up the dealer, and they confirmed it was indeed the case, but offered to cover it because it was a matter of warranty. I wouldn't even have known about it or tried to have it fixed, if Mike's son hadn't told me about it. My brakes fell off of my car on a Saturday. I thought for sure I'd be ripped off by an auto place because I was not from around the area and had zero options. I yelped for an auto repair place and found Mikes. Mike replace all 4 of my brakes with rotors and pads for about $800! I was thinking it would be around $2,000. Excellent service, good prices, knowledgeable staff. Wife went in for some low tire pressure and they filled up the air for free. We brought them some donuts the next day as a thank-you and they were overjoyed. I get the feeling they are used to doing solids for customers without getting much in return, except goodwill. When I went in for a checkup after a failed smog test, they offered to drive my car over to a nearby testing facility once it was cleared, and handled all the paperwork. I've had a lot of work done on my car before, but these guys really go the extra mile. Prices aren't dirt cheap, but they're much better than pricier places with worse service. I feel like they're delivering a lot more value for my dollars than most mechanics, especially near the Irvine / OC area. Worth the trip if you're ambivilant about your current service. Oh, they're also up front when a problem isn't in their wheelhouse: no service charges for "we couldn't figure it out." Like I said, solid, honest folks. read more
