Cheap. Local. Eclectic. Three of my fave words to use in a Yelp review. Fitzgerald's recently cropped up in our neighborhood about a minute walk from our doorstep. The place is definitely unassuming from the outside (they don't have a road sign out by 56th Street, so you wouldn't know they are tucked back behind all the shops if you weren't already back there.) But, when you do find 'em...you're in for some darn good eatin'. My husband, who often works at Fort Harrison State Park, happened to see Fitzgerald's vinyl sign as he was driving past to head to the Fort. He was talking them up that night after he came home. Unfortunately Fitzgerald's is only open during the week days currently (due to the owners still getting established) so I had to wait for a holiday to try them out. They are setup like a fast casual dining place, where you pick your sammich and can customize it with different fixin' options as you see fit. Most of their sandwiches come on either panini or french baguette and consist of classics like the cuban, chicken salad, roast beef, and pulled pork. They also offer a daily soup and some very delicious sides, including homemade mac 'n cheese, collard greens, and potato salads. I nabbed their Rooster -- chili lime chicken with avocado, chipotle cream cheese and white cheddar on a baguette. It was yummy! They don't jip you on portions either. For around $10 you get about a 10" sammich sliced in half that has plenty of meat and fixins' on it. Their side salad is also decently portioned (and the house vinaigrette is really tasty.) The two main chefs on staff bring their cooking experience from Ocean Prime and Recess, so you know creativity and a knack for combining ingredients is behind every item. The owner has decorated the space with his own fantasy art pieces, giving the dining area unique pops of color here and there. The place is never busy and the staff are all about going the extra mile to make their guests feel welcome and enjoy their meal. I hope the word gets out about Fitzgerald's so they'll extend their hours into the weekend. The owner hopes to do pig roasts out back in the summer time, so that definitely bodes well for the local gem. read more

What a great find. I'd give them 6 stars if it were possible. The place only has 6 tables but all of the food is from scratch and he does amazing things on the smoker. The owner made a sample tray of all the sides since it was our first time there. Wow! Black bean and bacon soup, Mac and cheese with 5 types of cheese, twice baked potatoes and the best potato salad I've ever had. He even gave me the recipe for the potato salad. The smoked pulled pork is amazing. The Chili lime Chicken and bacon sandwich is also very good. It's all homemade from scratch. read more

Amazing!! We had Mac n Cheese, Casserole, the Rooster Sandwhich and a Choppa Salad and let's not forget the Blueberry Lemon Bundt Cake. EVERYTHING was affordable and delicious. Skip Panera and head to Fitzgerald's like we did. You won't regret it. read more

So glad we stumbled upon this place! Fitzgerald's is tucked away on Fort Ben, right across from Cafe Audrey. The team behind the counter is super friendly, and the chef takes his time to explain his craft. Short version - this place is all home cooking, all delicious. Seriously, the smoked pulled chicken was delicious. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly paired with the fresh fruit salad. Very refreshing meal. He let us sample the Mac and cheese.... guys... get the Mac and cheese. The best I've ever had! They are open Monday through Friday, 11 to 2pm. I've been wanting to try this place for months and finally got to experience it today. Everyone was excited to share info about the menu and the quality of food offered which was a delight to talk to another foodie like myself. Everyone working was very polite and kind. The owner is taking the time and doing things the right way especially with the meats, sauces, and pickles. The flavor is very apparent with the first bite. It was nice to see there was a special of the day and soups offered. I ordered the rooster with potato casserole, and also had the pleasure of trying the pulled pork and mac and cheese. Holy cow was everything delicious!! I enjoyed every last bite. The highlight for me were the pickles, and mac & cheese. I will be back very soon!! read more

Fitz's place continues to be one of my favorites. They are consistently good in taste, value, service, and hospitality. Fitz is normally behind the counter serving when he's not creating the artwork that you see hanging on the walls. His family (mom) works with him and they are all very friendly and seem to love what they do. We go here often and love the variety. Best Cobb Salad in town. And I had been looking for a good Cobb Salad for weeks now. Worked my way over near my old office at Ft. Ben and grabbed lunch yesterday at Fitzgerald's Lunch House. The special, a chicken club was huge and fresh my lunch companions told me. My Cobb Salad was even better - fresh and filling, it hit all the right notes. I see Grubhub goes here. Here now for lunch. Very very slow service. Not that busy. Too focused on cool vibe amongst employees and not enough staff to prepare what are simple sandwiches and chips from a food service bag. All done out front assembly line style. Think SUBWAY. Just got meal. 9 potato chips. Seriously. This cheap aspect ruined the excursion for me. Finally. Food is delivered. No comment from the server on the long wait. Maurice sandwich was generous and served on a fresh baguette. Wife had the Rooster and it was well put together. I was jealous of her extra chip (10). Outside seating is a hodgepodge of cheap patio furniture located in a busy parking lot. Good reviews here on YELP but next time have the server with the larger hands scoop your chips! Lol. Aw, only open 11-3 Tues through Friday??! I will never be able to eat here. That stinks after hearing such great things about the food... Got all excited about going for a Saturday lunch only to find out that it was closed. Major bummer. Especially since we made Plan "B" going to the Tie Dye Grill on Shadeland. It was a big disappointment this time around. (We like supporting the local joints rather than Chains when we can....) Hope to hear that you extend your hours sometime in the future. My favorite lunch spot on the east side and possibly Indy. This place has a great selection of sandwiches and salads and each one is made with so much love and perfection by the Fitzgerald's. I don't have a favorite, because everything is so good. I also love getting the special of the day, especially when it's a pot pie! Yum! Follow them on FB to find out the specials. This is my second time eating here. The food has been excellent both times. I have tried the Cubano sandwich and the lunch special of smoked chicken wings. I have been with other people who tried the Maurice and the pulled pork and the roast beast, all 3 said they really enjoyed it. I recommend this restaurant for lunch. The specials go quick so get there early. The price may seem a little high. Remember that this is fresh high quality food, and the chef is right in front of you, ready to answer any questions. Eating out is just expensive right? This place is no different! So I don't do lunch out often because it seems you pay as much at lunch anymore as you would a dinner out. And post covid prices have jacked up! With that said, it's a small locally owned business and I know going in, I'll pay a little more. I just hope when I try a new place, it is worth it and this place was pretty good! I won't go often cause again, my budget doesn't allow $15 lunches every day.....the egg salad was just middle of the road and Audrey's across the street is way better BUT the jalapeño Mac n cheese was killer! I have tried both the Wilbur (pulled pork) and The Rooster (Chili-lime chicken) but I would say The Rooster is my fave. Came here because of all the 5 star reviews-usually that is a good indicator. Husband had a bacon wrap, I had a bowl of corn chowder. Bacon wrap was fresh and fairly good. The corn chowder was homemade, but bland, with quite a few potatoes. I was disappointed. It would have been much improved if they had sauted finely chopped onions & celery, used fresh corn cut off the cob, and broth (chicken or good veggie broth), and touched with some cream. Or serve with sour cream and cheddar cheese on the side- if wanting to keep it vegan. read more
