Awaiting my 9:30pm flight to LA, I opted to pull the trigger on a chicken bowl from Mango Taco Truck inside this Five Borough Food Hall. I was looking for something at least relatively healthy, as JFKs food selection is ABYSMAL. I have no portion control and have been doing this thing where I starve myself all day until dinner, so this was my first meal of the day at 8:30pm. It ran like $20 for chicken, cabbage, rice, black beans, and some salsa. I was SHOCKED when it wasn't half bad. There was an ample amount of chicken, I was expecting like 3 pieces. Many options in here for a quick meal. I opted for a salad from Green Goddess. The salad was pretty pricey. It was ~$21 for a small salad. You order at any of the screens for all of the restaurants and they will prep it and you pick it up from them The service was decent. I had to wait for a little bit of time so maybe ask them to rush your order if you are tight on time. I didn't see much seating in the area but I didn't take much time to look around. Lots of people apparently have very high standards for airport food. I don't. To me, this place was exactly what I thought it was going to be: a congested area of different takeaway eateries that's difficult to navigate when it's crowded full of people (the random two-sided bar doesn't help). You place your order on a screen near any of the stalls, and then wait for your food to get made. As of writing this there's a sandwich place, a Mexican "food truck", a Greek place, and a salad bar. The salad bar is fantastic. Except, I can't prove it's real: I've looked all over the internet for a) photos of it, b) their menu, and c) what it's even called... but I can't find any of that. Know this: currently, there's a salad bar here and they are GENEROUS with their portions (for under $20 too). I got the Quinoa & Beet (clearly labeled vegan) salad that came with loads of arugula, quinoa, beets, cranberries, a half of a large avocado, more stuff I can't remember, and two containers of vinaigrette. When it was my salad being made, the person behind the counter shouted my name so I could come up to the counter and, I guess, watch them make it/ask for any adjustments or extras (I didn't do this, but the lady in front of me had LOTS of requests, and the employee was very, very patient). It came in a BIG container. ASK FOR A BAG or HAVE A BAG TO PUT IT IN. The salad was plentiful, but ***PRO TIP FOR MY VEGANS***: go to the Farmer's Fridge near A4 and B25 and get a Napa Chickpea Wrap (or two); scrape the insides of it - the smashed chickpeas, veganaise, lettuce, onions, currant mixture - onto your Quinoa & Beet Salad; and enjoy an absolutely epic, filling, nutritious, satisfying mega salad!!! read more

Definitely one of the better spots in JFK. I grabbed some tacos and was headibg out to my gate to nosh there, when I saw stools at a bar on the edge of the "food hall." I thought, what the heck, I'll grab beer too. The servers were over-the-top nice and engaged with the patrons sitting at the bar, all having a variety of beers, wines, and mixed drinks. Nice conversations and a fun way to wait for my flight. I'll be back. Food? Well, the tacos were okay, salsa not spicy at all. I didn't get the sour cream because of one of the other reviews. Pro point: you can order food while at the bar from any of the vendors in the hall. You don't need to order or and bring it back. Gives you a less hassled meal. read more

Pretty good and great pricing compared to other spots at JFK International Airport! Pulled up a stool at the bar and ordered two 19.2oz beers ($13.49), three tacos, and chips and salsa. Food was decent -- best deal was the drinks by far. The tacos were very messy and smothered in sour cream. Chips and salsa were standard. Overall I had a really nice experience here! It's one of the cheaper options at JFK, which is why we chose it during our layover. The space was really cute and very New York-themed. It had a ton of grab-and-go options as well as little food "trucks" to order from via kiosks. We opted to sit at the bar, which was great for people watching. Our bartender/server was incredibly attentive, kind, friendly, quick, and helpful. She had good recommendations and got our food and drinks for us very quickly, but never rushed us. I ordered Chardonnay and the veggie taco bowl with impossible meat. The wine was pretty much what I expected, but the taco bowl was really good! It was a generous portion too. I tend to like my food on the spicy side, so I added some hot sauce to it for a little kick. If you're looking for a cheaper, yet decent, option at JFK, I recommend this place! read more

Honestly JFK has improved a lot. This place was colorful fun and friendly with many options and halal and kosher options! It has come a long way and I ordered some vegan tacos at one stand. It was a heart and filling bowl for about $16+. At least a fast made warm meal with veggies and meat in a happy atmosphere! read more

I paid $19.00 for a chicken taco bowl, only to find just three small pieces of chicken--it was essentially a bean bowl. It's frustrating how many American food chains and restaurants overcharge while cutting back on key ingredients, replacing them with cheaper fillers like rice and beans. If I'm paying for a chicken bowl, I expect a good portion of chicken. What makes it worse is knowing that the extra cost isn't supporting employees with better wages or benefits but is likely padding the pockets of CEOs and shareholders. Tonight at 635 the bartender left the bar unattended clearly to discourage patrons so multiple people moved on and he retuned at 7 with his pizza and said he could take no drink orders because the bar was closed for 25minutes for his break. (This must be the only airport bar in the world closed at 7pm! The food here is not bad particularly Mexican and Greek but combined with a drink at the bar the pexperience should be quite good. Clearly no management over sight or cameras watching employees sabotage a business. Options at JFK T4 are limited but 5 Borough should be eliminated from your options.It is a pity because the concept is great. read more

I ordered from Mango Taco Truck that in the Five Bourgh food hall. Luckily, no line meant quick service. The ambiance was quiet, and while the food didn't match other places I've tried, it's appreciated at the airport. The rice was mushy, and the beans overly soft, but as someone who can't handle the regular spice level, I coped by keeping the spicy parts on the side. The salsa and salad were also quite spicy. Unfortunately, the paper bags left on the checkout tables were all broken, making it precarious to carry my almost falling food. Overall, I would consider returning due to limited time to purchase food. read more

I really dislike having to order through a kiosk. I witnessed someone trying to order a breakfast burrito with chicken added but ended up ordering a chicken lunch burrito. No employee really helps anyone you are just kinda stuck with it. I would have liked to modify my order at domas but with my luggage and lack of attentiveness I just decided to give up. After opening 4 years ago in JFK's Terminal 4, the Five Borough Food Hall was touted as a destination for travelers to indulge on an "authentic" NYC experience of various cuisines. I've always chuckled at gimmicky attempts to lure travelers to these sorts of things, but this is still as cheesy and poorly executed as airport eateries tend to be. The handful of options here include the Mediterranean inspired Dromos (#1), the cocktail slinging Apothecary, the taqueria wannabe of Mango Taco Truck, the grab and go of Global Sandwiches, the Asian inspired Canal Street Noodle House (#2) and the Coffee Bar. Sadly, there are no standouts here, just stand-ins. I suppose in some regards it can be an authentic NYC experience. Take for instance: it's overpriced, overhyped, and super tiny, despite being in a popular spot (Terminal 4), it has been a tough sell ever since. I got the chicken "kebab" (The chicken wasn't cubes on a stick. It was shredded chicken meat. It was still good.) Got it from the Greek part of the food court, called Dromos. Asked for sauce on the side. I had to ask in person, bc You can't input that in the kiosk. unfortunately, he couldn't hear me. And was too busy making an order before I could tell him before he made my order. The food was surprisingly good and tasted healthy and clean. And was surprisingly affordable for air port food. It was like $15. I sat at the bar, but had to buy a drink. The bottles hard apple cider is 11.99 and then you tip and tax that's at least $15. But I like that this place is quieter and more chill than the crazy crowded and loud places closer to all the gates. read more

I got the chicken pita at the Greek place. Legitimately one of the worst things I've eaten in the past few years. I could've sworn the tzatziki was ranch!!! Such a heinous flavor should never have been introduced to my palate. My brother found a twig in his sandwich and the pita was cold and soggy. We had 30 min to boarding and there were only 3 people online so we figured it wouldnt take long. Well we were wrong. The 2 girls working the truck were averaging a burrito every 8 min.....was terrible. You could tell they didnt care and were moving at their own speed. When it came to make my burritto they couldn't even roll it right. Ended up taking about 30 min for the whole thing. Unreal. Food was ok, nothing special but not terrible. The "Canal Street" noodle shop is surprisingly delicious! Ginger beef broth is flavorful, but not overpowering. The soba buckwheat noodles weren't what I am used to, but they were filling. And the chicken was SO FRESH, not the gross prepackaged stuff more airport food joints offer. And they have Tabi basil, cilantro, and onion to top it all off. For $10.50, this is THE BEST airport food I've ever consumed. read more

I work at JFK in T4 so I get a good exposure of this place... This is the absolute worst place not only in T4 but in the world. The counters aren't staffed. If they are the employees ignore you or banter among themselves or just do nonsense work without taking your order. They have this weird system of having stickers to put on your order with barcodes that is so haphazard and disorganized. Usually the employee can't find the right sticker for your order. Most of them are surly as can be too. There are a few nice ones so I don't want to write them all off. Sometimes if you can even place an order the food is ok. Other times it's gross. The pitas are falling apart. The sandwich bread is stale. The soup is more like brown salt water. If you're flying out, avoid this place. You will either miss your flight as you wait for someone to figure out they are working and remember they have a job to do, or you will regret it as you spend your flight in the restroom. I honestly wonder how this place makes any money. Oh yeah! They charge you an arm and a leg for anything. read more

When I tell you that burrito had absolutely no flavor, it was just awful. The rice has no flavor, the chicken sits in water all day so it has no flavor, the beans were just beans, they don't offer any salsa or sauces to help. It's like Chipotle but with no flavor and very little toppings... I guess it's not like Chipotle. The point is, is that this place was a disgrace to Mexican food. No bueno. There are a lot of other options for food in Terminal 4, this is just not one you want to try. My flavorless burrito cost a good $15 and I wanted to throw it away. read more

It's hit or miss. When you work here, you get tired of eating McDonald's & Shake Shack all the time. So this is a nice change from time to time. I've only tried a sandwich & the taco truck. The Chicken Taco Truck Salad from Mango Taco Truck isn't bad. The vinaigrette gives it some flavor & if you feel like spending $3 for a spoonful of guac, that helps too. Same thing with the rice bowl. Everything tastes better with guac anyway. The Lemongrass Banh Mi from the Global Sandwiches wasn't bad, but it's so small for the price. Granted, I've only been here once, but I did enjoy my lemongrass banh mi from the sandwich truck. I came around 10AM to get a sandwich to go for a mid flight lunch offering-- service was fast and the sandwich was prepared fresh. Admittedly, it was smaller than I expected... although at $8 that's probably a steal for airport food, but the taste delivered (minus the hard chewy bread attributed to me waiting 2 hours to eat it). I ordered a Thai/Vietnamese ramen/pho. It came with chicken and spicy broth some noodles peas carrots and basil. I saw the woman assemble the ramen (chipotle style) and it tasted that way. It lacked cohesion and because of how its put together it was really hard to mix ingredients. I basically had to eat whatever was on top (the noodles) first then work my way down. Well I can see that Terminal 4 is getting there - aside from the always-so-crowded shake shack, and its brother Blue Smoke, which was also proudly owned by Danny Meyer, this food hall definitely provided another great add into the district. Don't get me wrong, when this place first opened up it was pretty good. I used to get the little lamb shawarma wraps and taco bowls way too often. Now? Horrible! It is tough working at a super busy airport, I get it but man I literally walked out twice on the taco place because they were so mean! Even as a follow employee they jip you. The portions have gotten smaller, and the staff has gotten worse. I could go on and on about how terrible this place has gotten but I won't. I think the concept is great but people here seriously need to be on the same page as to what they want to deliver to the public in terms of food and hospitality. Overall? I wanted to sit down at a bar and have a beer and a light bite during my delayed layover but all the other restaurants were packed to the brim and frankly I wasn't in a burger or wing mood. I found this little food truck concept place with really cute decor and an available barstool so I grab some to go sushi from their to go cooler and sat down at the bar. It's a really cute concept but I'm not sure about the other food venues they have inside. The have a taco, Greek, Noodle and bagel shop but it's pretty desolate inside so it makes you question the freshness and quality of the food. Additionally, there are only 15 seats at the bar and nowhere else to sit besides a small generic cafe table area 40' away that is not part of the same venue. Each of the shops were manned by one grumpy woman after the other. I had no idea how to pay for my sushi and when I asked one of the women she simply just pointed to the faux food truck that you are supposed to pay at without saying a word. I don't really consider that good customer service. If a space is designed well...the consumer should inherently understand where to pay, where the bathrooms are, etc. This place is not that and is a bit confusing. To illustrate this...they only give you chop sticks and soy sauce when you pay... which is once again....not obvious. So you as the consumer has to walk around looking for these items to no avail. When I reached the counter the girl said...give me a minute...she was just chatting and flirting with a male co-worker and made me wait till she was done. The bartender was the only good staff member here. You could tell that he took pride in his work. It's a transient venue with not much hope for repeat customers so I guess that's why they feel that they could do whatever they want. However, if they rectified these snags and got better staff they could be just as busy as all of the other food venues in the Delta B Gate. read more

This place serves airport food, at airport prices but the quality is better than you expect. I went to the the Mango Taco Truck and ordered a chicken burrito. The burrito comes with rice, salsa, beans (which I asked to not be included), cheese and additional toppings. There wasn't a long line and I was able to get my order quickly. I loved the flavor and was surprised with all I got in my burrito. Generally, I don't love pulled chicken and I did take most of that out, but that's a personal preference and it didn't impact my overall meal. I know I was in an airport, but for $14 plus tax, I found it to be a little bit pricey for a burrito. read more
