Very disappointing. I was looking forward to a dinner to go, browsed the on line menu and when I called in my order the price was 25% higher. When I questioned it I was told that meat prices fluctuate and that it was stated on the menu. There were NO disclaimers on the on line menu or website. Great menu, heavy on various kinds of protein. From really well seasoned steaks to lots of smoked choices with some seafood thrown in, you won't leave hungry. We went to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary the town is small but the food and atmosphere was better than Texas Roadhouse! We were told to get a reservation so we did so glad I did not have to wait like we saw some people after us. The portions are perfect and the price is fare the staff is VERY friendly and courteous. My husband and I attended a Satterwhite seminar in Lonngview and the evening meal was catered by 5 D's. There was brisket, chicken and sausage as choices for the meat. Bbq beans, potato salad and coleslaw for sides. You add your own bbq sauce to your liking. Deserts were also provided, blackberry, peach, and apple cobblers. This was some of the best bbq we've had in years!! Everything was tender and cooked to perfection. The cobblers were on point!! Everyone was extremely courteous. Had a great experience here. Staff was friendly, prices were reasonable, food was awesome, atmosphere was lively. I ordered a bone in rib eye which was cooked perfectly (medium rare). The sides (baked potato and salad) were good, nothing super special but went along fine with the entree. We had the blackberry cobbler ala mode for dessert. Be prepared to leave lots behind unless your a party of 4. The thing was as good as it was big. One suggestion I would have for them, music. With the type of customers they had coupled with the casual atmosphere, I expected a jukebox or maybe even a live band tucked away in some corner. One thing to note, they now have a stocked bar and are no longer BYOB. We had a bottle of the 2012 Bogle Merlot which had a TON of flavor. Fruity but not sweet. The hostess sat us at a table with a fan two feet away from us. Her reason - "it can get pretty hot over here in this corner". The bread is hot, fresh and homemade. In a word, it is outstanding. The Caesar salad had dressing that obviously came out of a tub (yuk). Our waiter was country as a corn cob but he was very nice and relatively accomodating. They serve a decent steak. Not a great steak - a decent steak. It is seasoned and cooked well. If they would use just a little higher quality cut of meat, it would be superb. I had a bite of my son's chicken fried steak and it was great. I would come back for the CFS. The decor is dark lit, brick building with cattle company motif. Works well. My wife and I ate here last night. I had the filet mignon, she had the rib eye and shrimp. The steaks were so tender and full of flavor. It puts other steakhouses to shame. However, if you are relying on Google Maps thru Yelp to direct you here you are out of luck. It shows this place to be near Lake O' the Pines, rather than its correct location in Avinger on Hwy 49, just north of Hwy 155. Well worth the visit. read more

Happened on this one by accident....cutting through East Texas as we returned from New Orleans to Tulsa we saw Five D Cattle in the middle of this little one block town....this is a gem out in the middle of nowhere. The hospitality was wonderful and the service was very good. My wife's fried chicken was delicious along with the mashed potatoes and white gravy...I had the chopped sirloin with sauteed mushrooms and is was great. Every thing was very fresh and the bread was just right with butter.... Will definitely make this a stop the next time we are in the area....very good! read more

We ordered a 14oz ribeye dinner for two that came with 3 sides and an appetizer or dessert for 42$. Im usually let down or disappointed when i order steak at a restaurant because they rarely come as you ask for them and flavor is often lacking. Today i was treated to the absolute BEST cut off beef i have had in years. I pride myself in my BBQ skills and i was asking for tips tonight. Tender, flavorful and a perfect medium cook! The sides and appetizer were large portions and well cooked as well. I wouldnt change a thing about that meal i had tonight. Atmosphere and seating are comfortable and welcoming. Staff are attentive and accommodating. As a bonus they sell all the cuts of meat (dry aged!) at their meat market next door. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

So we came in on a Thursday night. We got seated right away but it was in a room with a very large party that was very loud. We asked to move and we were accommodated very quickly. The food was okay, but the chicken was a little salty and the steak was not tender. However, the restaurant did not appear well cleaned/sterilized, and no COVID-19 regulations appeared to be followed. None of the tables were blocked off and social distancing was not followed. We were seated closer than 6ft to the other customers, masks were not required, and most of the staff did not wear masks. You can tell a lot about a place by the wait time. Although it is WELL worth the wait, calling ahead is the best option. I have never had a bad experience at 5D. The Fillet Mignon melts in your mouth with flavor; the chicken fried steak is more than you can eat (2 pieces); cowboy potatoes dance on your tongue with every savory bite. This place has a great old-west ambiance. It is in a building from the mid-1800's. Avinger is in the middle of nowhere in the Northeast Texas Piney Woods. Overall, a couple of notches better than the typical Texas Roadhouse, and maybe a couple dollars cheaper, which helps pay for the gas. read more

Bread is wonderful. Ambience is loud and robust. This was not my 1st visit and was looking forward to a fantastic steak. My steak was atrocious! I got the $41 porthouse. Could not cut it do to all of the gristle. I showed our waitress as I hacked into it. It was supposed to be med rare but it was medium well on one side, raw on the other. Meat was purple in some areas and a weird orange in others. When waitress saw it she gasped and asked if I want another or different cut so I went with the rib eye. 30 minutes later as everyone else in our party was packing up togo boxes, I ask the waitress about my steak. She ignored me or maybe didnt hear me. She came back 5 minutes later with a very small rib eye that was very very rare and covered in a cooked crust. I took a few bites and couldn't eat anymore. It was doused in so much salt my lips puckered. Don't ever send a steak back at this place. Apparently they do not like that. When I told the lady at the register how bad my experience was, it was obvious she couldn't have found a smaller care had she tried. I was charged and paid the full bill which included their imposed 23% tip for a party of 8. I will never be back. read more

Went to Five D on Friday night because our Granddaughter was in town and we told her how good this place was. Seated promptly and that's where it went downhill . The girl that came to take our drink orders said she couldn't get the alcohol but our server would be right with us. That didn't happen..... took almost 10 minutes before we ever saw our server and by this time we weren't happy about the long wait because it wasn't busy. She brought us our round of drinks and we let her know we would like to have a few drinks before we ordered dinner. That was a big mistake because Amber never came back one time to see if we wanted drinks. My husband went up to the bar to order them and two of the other servers did check on us after they saw we were just kind of left there. Even though she never came back to check on us she didn't have a problem standing around at the end of the bar talking to people. The only round of drinks she did bring to us we could see her wiping the rim of the wine glass off with her finger....thankfully we saw the bartender take it from her and clean it with a cloth. Food was good but because of the horrible service not sure if we will ever go back......such a disappointment considering that we loved that place read more

This was my second time eating here. I only came because friends asked us to go celebrate their anniversary. This time started off with me trying to order a mixed drink, but the waitress said she had never heard of a White Russian, so I couldn't have one! I ordered the steak and shrimp. The shrimp was cold as were my mashed potatoes. The steak was lukewarm. It took 10 minutes before the waitress came back by the table so I could send my plate back. I have lived in Cass County for about 12 years and tonight was my first time to eat here. I usually stay away from steak places because they are hardly worth the money and seldom cook a steak better than we can at home on the grill. But after so many raves from friends I decided to take my wife here tonight for a dinner date. First off it is below freezing tonight and they sat us by the drafty door... they moved us over two tables and still very drafty so already my wife was uncomfortable. We took awhile to decide and ate a whole basket of homemade bread. Wow that was some good stuff, actually the best part of the meal. We ordered the rib-eye special. My wife ordered med well and I ordered medium. She had salad and sweet potato, I had green beans and cowboy potatoes. When asked about dressing my wife ask if they made any dressings there and the waitress (worked there 14 years) said NO it is in a tub but all good stuff???? The lettuce was mostly iceberg and of course some tub dressing. When our meal came I was so ready. It had been about 3 years since I got steak at a restaurant and it looked really good. Right off my wife stuck her knife into the side of her med-well stake and blood shot out.... NOT GOOD! She sent it back but when she did get it back and took a bite, solid fat... she got 3 bites and the rest was fat. Mine tasted really good but was actually med-rare and was way to fat for the price. The cowboy potatoes were the bomb along with the green beans but NOT worth 25 bucks! Well a dinner date with the wife turned out a bust. Our waitress was nice but we had to ask for refills, The owner came out and apologized and took off 1/2 my wife's meal although the steak was NOT worth eating. We drove 35 miles to go out without the kids and had a NOT so good meal then had to drive 35 miles back home because there sure is nothing to do in Avenger TX after 9pm. I was not impressed and would NOT recommend it to any friends or family. If it was 5 miles from the house and the only place to eat I would most likely eat there and try other items.
