Let me start with the fact that I am from Tennessee so I have tried the original location in Nashville several times as well as this location I am reviewing and the one at Ponce city market in Atlanta. This review will need to be very nuanced because there are some things they do great and some things that need work. I will discuss the housekeeping topics to get them out of the way before discussing the donuts themselves. The theming and color scheme they use is actually great. Very cute pink and light teal boxes and signage. The insides of the non kiosk stores are very nice overall, somewhat reminiscent of crumbl. This particular location is a kiosk style built into the side of west side provisions which serves its purpose. The staff is always friendly and fast service. On to the donuts. Their concept is at its base a croissant-style "100 layer donut". The good : the purist glazed donut is one the best "glazed " donuts I have ever had. If I were rating that donut alone it would be 5/5 easy. That actually goes for all of their non filled donuts I've had , the flaky texture of their donuts is delicious. You really can't go wrong with one of those options. On this particular day I got a purist (the original glazed ) and a strawberry fields option, both very yummy. Not too sweet base donut with a nice , strawberry topping , very authentic tasting, not artificial tasting at all. Now to the not so good : I've tried several of their "filled " donuts at several different locations so I think the issue really is the recipe. From their vanilla cream to any of their seasonal cream filled (on this day I opted for the chocolate pumpkin cheesecake) the problem resides with the consistency of the filling. It always ends up tasting very much like unsweetened butter with globs of oil throughout, I've had this experience every time. It leaves a very oily, buttery, salty not sweet taste in your mouth. I do believe they need to revamp the filling recipe to add some type of confectioner sugar to add sweetness and body to the filling. If I were rating the "filled " donuts alone it would be 1/5, would not recommend those as they are now. So I'd say if you find yourself at a 5 daughters location opt for a deliciously flaky "non filled " option as those are very good. read more

This place is a hidden gem and the perfect place for people with a sweet tooth. It is a counter serve shop so there is no physical bakery to enter, just a display case and a worker to place your order. I never knew what a "cronut" (croissant + donut) was until coming here and it's been a life changer. I've had the strawberry fields, carrot cake, and lemon icebox. The strawberry fields is a cronut rolled in strawberry sugar, topped with a strawberry rosé glaze and adorned with pink sprinkles. The first bite of this blew my mind and I've been in love ever since. The cronut is soft and flaky, it is really sweet but a great treat. The frosting is absolutely delicious and this cronut is definitely a guilty pleasure. The carrot cake is a yeast-raised donut infused with carrot cake buttercream. It is topped with a cream cheese glaze, sprinkled with carrot cake crumbles and decorated with a cute buttercream carrot on top. It is also delicious, but I think it might only be available during the Easter season. Last up is the lemon icebox. Out of the three flavors I've had, this is my least favorite but it was still delicious and has a nice zesty flavor. It is a cronut infused with lemon curd, topped with icing and graham cracker crumbs. The flavors offered here are all pretty special and I don't think you can go wrong with what you pick. This location is just as awesome as the Ponce City one and it's a quick walk-up in west Atlanta! There's 20 minute parking outside the commons and a quick process to choose/purchase the donuts. They have the same selection from Ponce City, we got the vanilla cream and cream cheese sticky bun flavors and they were INCREDIBLE! 100 layers of dough, vegan options -- you can't go wrong with this place. Y'all already know I love these donuts. I was so incredibly sad to see the Triple Raspberry was a seasonal flavor and was rotated off of the menu. As I am quite obsessed, I check the flavor offerings pretty regularly and when I noticed the Triple Raspberry was back I corralled Hubby to take a trip over to pick them up - about 40 minutes from our house each way. We had the Triple Raspberry and the Samoa flavors. Hubby really enjoyed the Samoa it is one of his favorite cookies. I will always get the Triple Raspberry over quite literally any flavor so it was an easy decision for me. Both are really really fantastic, but I will ALWAYS choose and recommend that Triple Raspberry. It is more perfect than you would ever be able to imagine. Tangy and sweet but not too much. Flaky and soft, ample filling, lovely dusting of sugar on the outside. Yes! We decided on this location as there was curb side pickup which we were looking forward to. Haha so we thought. Upon arrival, we truly could not find the place and drove around several times. I kept trying to call and no one would answer the phone. We finally decided to park and look around for it on foot, still without anyone answering the phone. Mind you the curbside pickup directions instruct you to call the very number we were calling upon arrival. I probably tried 10 times in 15 minutes or so and could not get in touch with anyone. We finally made it to the counter and there was music blasting - not bothersome but we stood there for a bit before being acknowledged. We picked up our donuts and were on our way. It would have been more convenient - and quicker for that matter - for us to have visited Ponce and paid for parking for pickup. The donuts are obviously always 5 stars, but the pickup experience was a bit frustrating. It is probably best to not offer curbside if you do not intend on ever answering the phone. We will go back to the Ponce City Market location next time for sure. read more

The only drawback to Five Daughters is that it's difficult to find if you're not familiar with the Ponce Market. Hiding in a corner, the bakery has some delectable treats and vegan versions that taste amazing. The 100 layer donuts are AMAZING! I had the pumpkin pie spice. Rolled in cinnamon sugar, it's filled with pumpkin cream and topped with pumpkin and cream cheese icing. In reflection I wish I had gotten a mini so I could have tried more. I have been eyeing the donuts from this place since I heard that they were opening here. Unfortunately, I was at west side provision late the last few times and they were closed. But today they were open!! It is just a store front with a chalkboard of items for sale. They have a nice displace window with the display donuts and pricing on them (see pics). They also have a few drinks options if you are thirsty. The lady was eager to tell us about their croissant style donut, vegan (non croissant style) and paleo (denser donut). I got a lemon poppyseed and a strawberry field. She did recommend the purist (plain cronut with vanilla frosting) and my friend got that one. My donuts were boxed up in a clear container and off I go. The donuts was as promised flaky and many croissant layers. It was a little on the greasy side (but it's fried dough). The lemon had a nice tart bite to it and the strawberry was juicy and sweet. Overall, it's definitely worth a try. But at over $4 a donut, I wouldn't make it a everyday treat. read more

I am obsessed with Five Daughters Donuts! I have been to all 3 locations in Nashville as well as the locations in Atlanta! I love that they use clean, organic and non-gmo ingredients... I love the story behind starting this small business and their Bible verse on their box about love... my favorites are the powdered vanilla filled donut, the salted choc chip cookie, the s'mores donut, and pretty much any that's filled with buttercream haha They do have a gluten free chocolate chip donut option and a vegan option for a glazed donut..I wish they had coffee at this location but understand there's not as much room-- the new cookies are amazing too-- would love to see the Atlanta locations expand their options with breakfast sandwiches like the Nashville locations have! read more

So these doughnuts are beautiful and the flavors sounded amazing. After finally finding the window inside the breezeway across from Room & Board, I was warmly greeted. I ordered the Malted Peanut Butter Cup, the Chocolate Sea Salt, the King Kong (with bacon), and an Apple Fritter. The texture on the cronuts was nice and airy, but the sweetness was just overwhelming. I specifically ordered donuts with some salty elements (I like salty sweet if it's balanced), and literally all I tasted was sugar. Overly sweet filling, rolled in granulated sugar, then topped with sweet frosting. The apple fritter wasn't quite as sweet (no frosting and the apple filling tasted like apple not sugar) but the dough was super greasy - like coating my fingers greasy. UGH - gross. It's in such a cute location for the walk-through under a small tunnel right next to the bridge over the train rails and there are outdoor patios everywhere in this area where you can pick up the pastries from this place and chill anywhere then dig in. I am a very picky person when it comes to donuts in general because I don't really like donuts, however this place makes an exception! It surpasses my high expectations and took me into that world of many great natural flavors now. Everything tastes so fresh and all natural. I tried out with triple raspberry and chocolate chip sea salt donuts and both weren't overwhelmed with such sweetness or sugary which it was perfect me. I didn't like anything too sweet or sugary so it was mostly well done and balanced with a lot of flavors in it. I especially love the triple raspberry because of the FRESH REAL raspberries inside the donut and it didn't taste like a generic jelly or anything like that. It was just squished real raspberries with a little bit of sweetness. It was very delicious! I also enjoy the layered textures of this donut because it was a nice soft chewable and crispy. I do like chocolate chip sea salt because it wasn't too sweet or overwhelming either. Like I mentioned, it was a nice balance of everything in it. It also a little hint of sea salt but not that much with a nice thin layer of frosted chocolate on the top. There are also mini chocolate chips inside the donut as well. I went to Five Daughter's last weekend and one of the main things for me whenever I'm trying out a new place is the city it parking. The bakery is located on the top floor of the Westside Provisions Plaza and they have a couple of 10 minute parking spaces but, the plaza also has a paid parking deck available if those spaces are full. Walking up to the bakery window at first glance it doesn't look like much. However, looks are definitely deceiving! These were some of the best doughnuts I've had! I ended up getting a whole box of doughnuts because they all sounded so interesting. The cashier was also extremely patient and helpful in walking me through all of the flavors I had questions about and I ended up loving everyone especially the King Kong bacon covered doughnut. This Five Daughters location is inside of Westside provisions. So unfortunately you can't drive up to the bakery and place your order. Street parking is available, but can be a little hard to find. No worries though because there is also a parking deck that has additional spots. There's a little walk and a flight of stairs you have to get through before getting to the bakery, but i promise the donuts are well worth it! Today i got the blueberry lavender donut and well I wish I would have gotten two lol These donuts are equipped with 100 flaky layers which makes them similar to a cronut. However, I've never had a cronut that tasted this good! The donut was flaky and the icing mostly tasted like blueberry..I had a hard time tasting the lavender but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I have been to five daughters more times than I can count. The flakey, crispy yet so airy cronut (croissant/doughnut) melts in your mouth when you take a bite. I have yet to have a flavor that disappoints. From their Staple Flavors the maple is my favorite, hands down. It's buttery and flavorful with the perfect maple taste. For their seasonal flavors, I remember the first doughnut I had which was a Key Lime I believe. It had lime curd with a marshmallow topping and I fell in love right then and there. This is by far my favorite doughnut shop of all time. It even beats a hot and fresh Krispy Kream which was my winner for best doughnut before I knew of Five Daughters. I live off Howell Mill and their small little shop by Westside Provisions has made it so easy to quickly run up and snag my seasonal and staple favorites. Make sure to try this out if you are in the area, and if you aren't - it's worth the drive! read more

These are the only donuts (or cronuts?) that I care to consume! I'm not a sweets person at all and each donut is costly. However, it's totally worth it! The frosting melts in your mouth and the donut is airy. I recommend going with their classic "hundred layer donut." It's a hybrid between a croissant and a donut. Came to five daughters after searching donuts on yelp and they had great reviews. Went mid day which I wish I didn't because I missed out on some donut options . But I was pleasantly surprised by the cute little shop. I didn't know it was simply a walkout. Nestled in a walkway and super cozy. They have donuts on display so we can see them and easily and clearly labeled (wish I would've taken photos of this). The woman working was sweet and answered all of the donut questions :) I wound up getting a Paleo strawberry shortcake donut. I also got the maple glaze donut. I wanted the King Kong which is the maple glazed but with bacon (but I was too late ). My fam got the mint chip and vanilla Cream donuts which I didn't eat but he said they were sooo good. His fave seemed to be the vanilla cream because the cream was soo good. I LOVED the maple glazed donut. I cut it in half so see all those beautiful layers. The cream on that bad boy was sooooo amazing. I just know if I came early and got bacon, I'd be deceased by all of the goodness. I was a little sad with the paleo strawberry shortcake donut. I was trying to be good but once you have the maple glazed, you can't just go paleo lol. It was alright, but you don't get the fluff goodness. The actual donut is a bit more bland with paleo make. The cream on top saved it, but it def needed more cream. So I ate that one all before the maple glazed was finished because I wanted the best for last which wasn't the paleo strawberry shortcake. But it was alright. So I know next time I'll get vanilla cream, maple glazed or King Kong. I saw some others that look amazing but it would've been a bad idea to eat so many donuts haha. Their Hundred Layer Doughnuts are Five Daughter's take on the cronut - but this creation far surpasses any cronut I've ever had, served without the pretense of the original SoHo version. This morning, it was the Cowboy Cookie for me - a doughnut dunked in a cold brew glaze and covered with oats, pretzels, chocolate, and brown sugar. This doughnut should be its own food group! They have standard 'staple flavors' and flavor that rotate monthly, so you're sure to find something to your liking. My friend and I split an Orange Honey Pistachio doughnut topped with a whipped vanilla crème that made for a surprisingly good sweet treat.
