My first visit here but has been open for over a year now. Good location not too far from UMBC campus and close to the campus shuttle bus stop. I love 5 guys and this is now my closest location. I have not had food from 5 guys in over a year. I ordered a cheese burger with small fries. And they delivered it cooked to order. All food items were served hot and fresh. Fries we're golden, brown, and delicious. Which is great for me because I'm by myself today and I have plenty you know. Overall clean place. Quick service. Food cooked to perfection. Yea, I'll be back soon.

Veggie sandwich with cheese, added pickles and topped with some fries.

We started with Potato Cakes with crème fraiche, they had a nice crunch, a tender interior with subtle flavor. I'd never had them with crème fraiche, it was a nice change and the mild tanginess with the creamy texture complimented the Cakes well. I ordered the Main Street with Weisswurst, a Pretzel and plain Spätzle. It was my first, the veal's flavor is understated in comparison to Bratwurst or Knackwurst (not on the menu) and was a pleasant changeup. The Pretzel was little disappointing while it was a decent pretzel, it lacked the crisp crust and distinctive flavor I expected. As evident by the rating while worthy of note, it's not a game changer. I'd ordered a large plain Spätzle, which was two regular portions, but was served Spätzle with cheese I tasted it and it wasn't my thing, which is not to say it was bad, I just don't care for cheese in dishes like that. Our server swapped one cheese for plain (my wife had happily stolen the other) and enjoyed the replacement. I found that the grilled onions gave it a nice homey flavor. Mistakes happen and it turned out to be a win in the end. We shared a couple of desserts and by far, my favorite was the Black Forest Cupcake. It's on the large side, they might be able to cut on the weighty crème icing, the chocolate cake and soaked cherries were a delight. The cherries are a significant improvement over the Marchinos I had before, if only there were more. Rathskeller can get a little loud, as it is a relatively small space with hard surfaces so voices reflect, it wasn't packed this afternoon, so it wasn't an issue. Waitstaff dresses very casually, it pleasant and fairly attentive.

The food is hearty, flavorful, and everything you want from traditional German cuisine. The beer selection is excellent, and the lively atmosphere makes it easy to settle in and enjoy yourself. One word of advice: come hungry. The portions are huge, and you'll definitely get your money's worth. Whether you're stopping in for a quick pint or a full meal, Ratskeller delivers a memorable experience.

We just awkwardly stared at each other until I started ordering. The ambiance was the same. It was loud and mostly clean. There was an "odor" in the air that I was not able to identify but I think it was the smell of old grease. Now the burger. I don't know if the meat is frozen or fresh, but it's a good burger. Was it an $8 burger? Not even close. I also purchased a small fry. They were cooked fresh, but I paid $4.75 for what I am fairly confident were frozen fries. The kind you would get a Wendy's. Speaking of, I think I would have rather had a Wendy's burger. It would have tasted about the same and been cheaper. In total, with a tip, I spent $19.52. A single patty cheese burger with American cheese and a few toppings. I travel all over the east coast for work. I love finding small local places to eat, but I won't be back to this burger chain.

I feel like Boardwalk Fries & Burgers started out that way (they've been around in MD for a while but I can't recall how long). They maybe should have stayed that way. The fries are good but not worth the trip. Fresh cut, skin on fries. Keep it this simple, which they did, and you can't go wrong. The burger, which was supposed to be 1/4 lb seemed on the small side. The pineapple slice (got the Hawaiian burger) was almost tasteless such that I had to check a couple times if I there was still any in my burger. Also, the restaurant was very cold! I happened not realize that the thermostat was on the wall in front of me and it was set to 66°. That's probably fine if you're popping in to pick up an order but not fine at all if you're eating there.

What was my first visit like? Perfect. It's just a good burger place man. The ingredients are fresh and food are made to order, and anybody thats had five guys before know what it should taste like. This location meets those expectations. Now we could debate who has the best fast casual burgers, but five guys is certainly in my opinion, among the top choices. Now just know inflation is A thing, and also you're paying for quality. My order of little bacon cheeseburger, regular fries, and drink came out to $18 and change, but I rather have this than your average run of the mill fast food burger franchises littered all over route 40. I don't care how many coupons they throw at you. There's plenty of people behind the counter preparing your food, it's clean, and there's plenty of seats. This location also has milkshakes. Show some love to the newest kid on the block. Cheers!

You can enter on Main Street, or from the back patio. For the full dive-effect, I like to come directly from the old iron staircase in the back, halfway up to the patio, past the original tiny old restrooms and the ice machine. (There's nicer restrooms on the performance / pool-table side.) I looked in on the pool-table side where bands play regularly. There's seating there for around 30, mostly used when bands are playing or by pool-players or when the bar side is full. There's some benches out on the patio for warmer weather and for smoking. The walls are covered with old rock memorabilia, and i love the bar side where there are old albums on the ceiling too! Plus a collection of old stuff over the years that defies description. The bar seats maybe 15. I always sit on the bar side, where it's usually dimly lit. You can get basic mixed drinks and some premium spirits, and plenty of varieties of beers, some craft, some old regulars. They have a small kitchen, too. I usually just get a cold Natty Boh and watch some sports on their several tvs, or talk to anyone I know, or anyone who happens to be nearby. This time i got there on a Thursday after 5 and it was pretty quiet, between the regulars who finish around 4pm and the music-lovers who come after 6 or 7. This time I was one-and-done. I've been here for some rock, and mostly for a more Catonsvillian variety of punk and metal, sometimes every night!, though usually not Mondays. Sometimes there's a cover. It's usually good bands, with a lively crowd, some from the nearby college. There's a small number of parking spaces straight out back, only on their side of the alleys, and leaving the spaces behind the deck for the apartments to the east. The out-front street parking is pay at-the-meter or by-app during Mon-Sat 8-6, and otherwise free.
