This place is one of my favorite restaurants to visit. Every time I come here, it is very clean and orderly, despite the free peanuts they give you that people find every good reason to throw on the floor. Irregardless, they do a good job with cleaning up after the folks who love their peanuts. Very pleasant atmosphere with a variety of music playing in the background. The bathrooms are clean and very well maintained. The fries are always hot and perfectly cooked with just the right amount of sea salt added to fully enhance the flavor profile. I chose the patty melt on this occasion, and it did not fail to pleasantly surprise me with the tender meat and an assortment of wonderful flavors added by the additional toppings I selected. There are no 'Combos' here. Everything is ala carte, so be prepared for that. So come back for a visit. I've found that it has always been a pleasant experience. Walked in thirty minutes before closing on a Friday night and they had half a dozen folks finishing their meals, and some of the staff doing closing duties. One quickly greeted me, took my order, and I found a seat. The interior is, as with most Five Guys, right, welcoming, and stacked high with potato's and cans of peanut oil. When did they ditch the peanuts? They have a CocaCola drink machine (two, actually), which is the only place you can still get Diet Coke with Lime. If it wasn't this late, I'd have gotten that. Sad that they don't have caffeine-free Diet Coke in there. My burger came out in about five minutes, hot and perfectly balanced with all the free toppings I enjoy. If you're wanting a burger (and fries, but it's too late at night for all those carbs!), this is a great spot. Open 11-10 7 days a week. I need to remember to stop here more often. read more

Great burgers, great cajun fries, and great customer service. We usually get Bacon Cheeseburgers with Cajun Fries and a soda drink here. If we want fast food burger, this is our ideal spot. Each Bacon Cheeseburger comes with a two patties, bacon, cheese, and we usually order it with "Everything" with extra grilled onions and A-1 Sauce. Being able to customize burgers with the various available ingredients is nice, and they cook them well. The patties are satisfyingly good, definitely better than any fast food in the area. Fries are also fantastic; perfectly-salted, fresh, generous amount. There are 2 options: regular or cajun. I prefer the cajun. We devoured it all; love how the cheese is melted in the well-spiced patty; the overall taste with the A-1 Sauce and other ingredients is satisfying. Coca-Cola Freestyle machines with free refills are nice, but I'm not a big fan of the Gold Peak Real Brewed Tea - just tasted artificial, in my opinion. There was one time, both machines were broken (I know they can be a pain to fix for restaurant), and I had to buy a bottled soda, but other than that, they're reliable and great for customers dining in. You can self-serve ketchup, malt, and free peanuts, but Five Guys, where's the Ranch? They would be awesome with fries. I even asked them in my first visit. It would also be nice to have other blends of burgers and other types of sides for variety sake. Five Guys' menu seems as limited as a Raising Cane's - they have that 1 quality item worth ordering all over again, but the lack of variety doesn't give me more reasons to visit here. We had a problem with our burgers before (forgot to add A-1 sauce) but someone contacted us to resolve the issue. Overall, Five Guys' customer service is friendly and fast. Ambiance is fine; there's a good amount of space, and an employee is always cleaning the tables often enough. There are hand sanitizers and supplied take out zone with clean bathrooms and some nice framed awards that give us a glimpse of the chain's reputation. I wondered if this particular location is visible enough since I sometimes see 0 other customers around night time (after 8PM). It's on the elevated area at Patterson Place shopping center on 15-501 near I-40, Exit 270, but it doesn't seem visible enough if you're passing by 15-501. Nonetheless, it looks like a safe location with a good amount of parking spaces for customers. With Five Guys' top-of-the-line fast food burgers and great customer service, this is definitely the burger spot worth returning to if you want quality burgers fast. There's a Red Robin right across if we want a more restaurant-quality/gourmet burger but I don't consider that fast food, so wouldn't put Five Guys in the same category. Burgers are definitely better-cooked than Bad Daddy's though (which I'd put in the same category as Red Robin). Higher quality burgers = higher price compared to other fast food burger spots. A complete meal with Bacon Cheeseburger, Regular fries, and Regular drink would cost around $20+. They don't offer combos. I sometimes get an extra patty for additional cost, but haven't done that recently. Is it worth the price? Hmm...maybe. Like many other positive reviewers here, in general, I'm also a fan of Five Guys, so if you're not seeking a "gourmet" burger, this is probably your best option. I give this Five Guys in Durham 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. It's somewhere between OK to good. In general, I'm a fan of Five Guys. I think Five Guys burgers, fries, and hot dogs are delicious, satisfying, and hit the spot. If you're not seeking a "gourmet" burger, then this place should suffice. At the time of writing this review, this is the only Five Guys in Durham. It opened in 2011. It's located at the Patterson Place shopping center on 15-501 near I-40 exit 270. To be expected of any national chain restaurant, this Five Guys was pretty much the same as other Five Guys restaurants I've visited, mainly in the Atlanta area. There are eight Five Guys locations in the Triangle, this one being the farthest west and the one in Knightdale being the farthest east. This Five Guys has a fairly spacious dining room with six umbrella-covered tables on the sidewalk patio (off the top of my head, I think it's the most patio seating I've seen at all the Five Guys I've been to) and plenty of parking. During our Sunday evening visit, the restaurant was clean and moderately busy with both walk-up customers and those with online pickup orders. My wife and I were craving burgers and knew exactly what we wanted when we made our first visit to this location. She got a cheeseburger all the way ($8.79) and I got a bacon cheeseburger all the way ($9.99). "All the way" means mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, grilled onions, and mustard. Her cheeseburger was 980 calories + 190 calories for the toppings = 1,170 toppings. My bacon cheeseburger was 1,060 calories + 190 calories for the toppings = 1,250 calories. At Five Guys, all toppings are free. We also picked up some Cajun-style fries in regular size ($4.99, 950 calories). I'm only listing the calorie amounts because Five Guys conveniently lists them on the menu. With ketchup (30 calories), I estimate I consumed 1,755 calories from my meal from here. Oh yeah. We devoured everything. I think my wife enjoyed the meal more than me. I could have done without the bacon, but felt like going all the way this time. My bacon cheeseburger tasted fresh. It was tasty and filling. The bacon was crispy. The buns were soggy from all the juices - I didn't like that. I thought the burger patties themselves were fine. Savory. The fries were excellent, with or without ketchup. As is customary for Five Guys, the fries were served both in a cup that was way too small to hold all the fries as well as all inside the brown paper bag that everything else (burgers, napkins) was served in. It goes without saying Five Guys food is greasy. The brown bags always get soaked in grease. Well this bag of ours was exceptionally greasy! Like, nice and saturated and leaving wet splotches wherever it sat greasy. I think our all-the-way juicy burgers with all the juices from the various toppings were big contributors to the wetness. It was quite messy. A couple of napkins in the bag got soaked in oil and a little bit of sauce too. If transporting a bag of Five Guys, beware where the bag touches (e.g. clothes, car seats). Another Five Guys tradition: Self-serve peanuts are available for free across from the order pickup counter. Also, self-serve condiments are available plus they have two Coca-Cola Freestyle machines, each with over 100 drink options, and Gold Peak Real Brewed Tea with free refills. I had been to this location in a while, but was craving a Five Guy's burger and tried using the new online ordering feature from their app and it was a delightful experience. The app is super easy to use, by the time I drove over and parked the order was just about ready. The staff was super friendly and quick. I hate to write this customer review because it is negative. My wife and I have frequented this Five Guys since it opened. Years ago it was fabulous. The kitchen staff were all local employees and the counter personnel were local and really friendly, and very helpful. A few years ago the manager changed and we saw changes starting to occur. The kitchen staff began to have illegals. The food and service remained above average so I did not complain. Then 2 years ago I noticed all the kitchen staff were illegals and they spoke only Spanish. What they did not realize is many of us customers speak Spanish. For a while there was a group of about 5 women that made fun of customers. They chided the clothing some of the customers wore, they made fun of the elderly not being able to walk very well and thought they should be put in an old age home, they criticized the make up some of the women wore, and it went on and on. Not to belabor the point but they acted like children. I noticed on several occasions they would remove some of the fries and make statements that the customers were to fat and should have less fries to eat. I guess they had not been looking in the mirror. The manager that hired all these illegals disappeared and a female manager was supervising the operations. That was a disaster as she was not strong enough to keep them in line. We started eating there less because we were not happy with the operation. One of the advantages we benefited from was getting free soft drinks for seniors, which happens at a lot of restaurants in the area. They always gave us the small soft drink cups which we appreciated as having some movement disabilities it meant we did not have to make as many trips to the dispenser. Today we went in and I had not seen the man behind the register before. When he gave us the senior drinks he gave us the small water cups. I asked politely if he could please give us larger cups and he said no. I replied but I have always gotten the larger cup and it helps me not to make extra trips to the dispenser. Then he got rude and said it is company policy and then he began to lecture me on how Five Guys only gives water cups for senior drinks. The insulting tone in his voice offended me and I said "no, this is on you, you are the person making this decision". It may be that he has been counseled by the company to not give seniors regular drink cups but his lack of tact offended me and my wife. I am sure he is an illegal and he has the gall to come to this country and insult us. We have decided not to never go to Five Guys again. I mean never go to any Five Guys again. At first we thought, maybe this decision is over the top but there are plenty of burger places where the food is just as good and we do not get insulted. So long Five Guys. read more

After having a delicious burger Spotted Dog, I was craving another juicy, mouth-watering burger. Since I was working nearby, I decided to drop by Five Guys for a small burger and fries. The line was quick, and the add-on options plenty. My food was prepared as quickly as any other fast food place. The burger itself was just okay. Yes, it's more expensive than McD's or BK or W's etc..., but look at the quality of burgers and toppings you get by comparison! Order a "large fries" and get a bag full of fries! Order a bacon cheeseburger and get a double patty with about 6 slices of bacon on it... to heck with the calories, I just want my five guys burger piled high with jalapeno peppers, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and HOT SAUCE! Ask for Hot sauce or jalapenos at BK or McD's and listen to the response you get from the cashier. And while we waited for our food, we had peanuts to munch on! My piled high double patty smothered with bacon and toppings didn't last long - that tasty treat couldn't be resisted and when it comes to eating good food, nothing gets between me and my appetite. Our food was good, as it usually is at this location! We decided to eat outside as masks were not being enforced entering the restaurant. JUST BEWARE, while we ate outside, at least an hour and a half- NOT ONCE did we see an employee come outside and clean the outside tables after patrons left. Stopped by for a burger and fries. Saw lots of people going in and out with no masks. Couldn't get the phone app to work, so I went inside to order. After noticing many staff with their masks half on, I asked the clerk to deliver my order to my car. She testily told me that I'd only have to wait inside for 10 minutes. I emphasized I would like to have my order brought out to my car. 20 minutes later I reentered the store to be informed that "rules" required me to pick up the food in the store if it was ordered in the store. Looking at the unadorned faces and the sack of cold food on the counter, I asked for a refund. It took 3 managers and 20 minutes to effect the refund, at which point I was willing to walk away without a refund than spend more time in the store. Only one manager was kind enough to offer an apology, but everyone else was pretty sure that I should not expect to have my food delivered to the curb if I ordered at the cashier. Went at 7pm on a weekday to this Five Guys. There's plenty of parking space near the restaurant and inside was relatively clean. The cashiers were efficient at taking my order and my burger was ready in a couple of minutes. I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, mushrooms, green peppers (which really added an extra layer of flavor and texture), ketchup, tomato, lettuce and relish. I enjoy various cuisines and fine dining but there times when you can't beat a good old fashion American bacon cheeseburger. The burger was dense, juicy, flavorful and filling. It's definitely a messy burger. What I especially liked about this Five Guys is that the smell of old peanut oil was not as strong as it occasionally is the case in other Five Guys. While you can most certainly get better gourmet burgers, I gave it a 5 star because of the low cost, speed of service and quality of the food. read more

We've eaten here before and had a good experience, but there was something different this time. The first thing we noticed (aside from the AC being set on meatlocker temperature) is the employees don't look very happy, none of them. I'm not sure what's up, but based on a previous experience we thought the food would be okay. My burger seemed like it had been thrown together in a hurry cos everything was lopsided leaving the burger in just one part of the bun. I'm not sure what the hurry was cos it was pretty dead when we walked in and only one person ahead of us. As much as I tried, I couldn't get things in the middle so it made for a mess in no time. My partner's burger had the wrong toppings on it so they had to make another. They told her to keep the first one, which she gave to me. I ate part of it and it was much better than my first one, but then her's ended up being all lopsided too. Is that supposed to be what a good burger is like? So uneven that you end up losing most of it with every bite? The fries were kind of soggy and overall not very good. I love my Saskatoon Five guys and so I was excited to find out that one million miles away from home (North Carolina) Five Guys was still awesome. My wife and I each had cheese burgers (2 patties) and a large order of fries. Nothing was pulled out of a warming tray! Nothing was left under heat lamps! Everything was cooked AFTER I ordered it! That's not something other chains can or are willing to do. I left a crazy good tip because I love the effort they put into giving me the best burger experience. I like the idea of Five Guys Burgers and Fries and I LOVE that they have a smaller version of their burgers in case your appetite is not that huge. I was pretty hungry, but I knew my limits and I got a small cheeseburger with bacon and grilled mushrooms and some other good toppings. Yay for picking and choosing =) I got a large bag of fries, which was way more than substantial - and I'm usually a fry monster. Yikes. So I guess a small fries would've sufficed. I got them plain, so I can't speak for the Cajun. They were pretty good. The decor is a bit grimy - it's very country-feel, with sacks of potatoes and tables, but I wouldn't have felt comfortable sitting inside. It wasn't dirty, exactly, but something about it threw me off. I got to eat outside, thankfully, and I greatly enjoyed my burger and fries (and had way too much leftover, unfortunately). I want to give it 3.5 stars, but I rounded down in the end because it still was pricier than what I would've wanted :x read more

I'd say that the burgers and fries are 3.5 stars, but the friendliness and smiles of the staff the day I visited bumped it up to a 4. The burger was good overall. I love that the grilled onions and mushrooms cost the same as lettuce and tomato - i.e. free. I think they really give the burger some heft, especially since they flatten the burger while it grills to make it cook faster. Agree with some others that the patty itself could use some more seasoning. The fries were also a little disappointing - they make sure to fill the cup, but the fries I got were kind of wilted without much outer layer crunch. If you get steak sauce, I'd suggest get it on the side - they don't skimp on sauce, so your bun might be soaked if you get it on the patty. read more

My wife and I rarely go out for fast food. Not for any reason other than why. We don't need anything in a hurry and there always something better awaiting to be eaten at home. But on this day I was with a friend and we just wanted somewhere easy on our journey. First of all Five guys lives in a world between fast food and restaurant. It looks like any fast food place but the food is definitely a step up. I'll keep it simple. The bacon cheeseburger was really tasty. The meat wasn't cooked to oblivion, the meat was juicy and full of flavor, it had a great char on the outside, the cheese was over the top good, the bun held together and the jalapeño peppers roasted were a perfect addition. The only two cons that I found were that the fries, although very good, well, some were a bit soggy. And the price. It's not fast food prices. Would I pay it again, yes! read more

Burgers were all very bland. I mean everything in it including the patties were bland. Even the jalapeños weren't hot and the pickles had barely any flavor. Maybe they didn't season the meat first, I don't know. The fries were decent though. This is the second time I've been to a 5 guys and both times the food was mediocre at best. Update: I was very Impressed with the upper Management response. I received a call within 12 hours! They offered to feed the staff anyways! They truly care about their customers. This store has poor customer service. I am an Area Supervisor for another local Restaurant. The staff had worked really hard this weekend so I decided to buy them food. I asked them what They wanted and they said Five Guys. While I realized it was close to closing time. I decided to try to call first to make sure I get the order in. The Phone was off the hook. So i decided to order Online. By the time I got the food order completed online it was 8:55 PM. I am not far from them so I jumped in my car and went up there since the online order was not going to be ready until 9:04 PM. On my way there the Manager or Shift Runner CALLS me! (conveniently all of a sudden the phone works) He says what do you want to do with your order we do not open our doors for security reasons past 9:00 PM. I said make it. He said he would have to cancel the order since it wouldn't be ready until after 9 PM. I told him I want his District Manager's Number. He said he would have to look it up. I said well do that. He said see you when you pull up. I thought I that point he was going to make our food and have it ready when I got there. WRONG! Side note... First off if this is company policy then the online ordering system should be set to cut off orders at 8:30 pm or 8:45 pm to prevent orders from coming when they can not hand them out. Why would you take a consumers money tell them to be at 9:04 pm which by the way is after close. So moving along in my story. I arrive and call and tell him I am here to pick up my food he said I told you I cancelled your order. Then FINALLY he mentions "it didn't matter anyway we ran out of cheese" He did not mention at all when first called me about the cheese. Nor did he give me the option to have them leave it off. Since we work at a restaurant with cheese since they are unable to keep up inventory on a necessary item for operation. I ask him did he have a chance to look up the District Managers number. He said no he didn't have it but he could give me his GM number. I said I did not want it I wanted the District Managers number. I then told him he could call his GM and then get the District Managers number from him. So he then put me on hold. Came back with someone phone number named Chris which I would be surprised if actually was the District Managers number. As I write this I get an email notifying me I was getting a refund due to security reasons and that he told me when he called me that they had no cheese. (which he didn't. tell me that until after I arrived at the store). I then called Five Guys guest relations department. I asked if an order is sent online is a store suppose to make it? She said yes. Even if it won't be ready till after close? She seemed uncertain. She told me she was making a report and someone in the field will be in touch with me. I guess we will see if they do. This Five Guys location is pretty new to the Patterson Place retail area in S.W Durham and is similar to other Five G locations I have been to. The inside is rather sparse with tables and a large menu on one corner of the wall. They have bags of potatoes as props and the rest of the walls are decorated with glowing reviews of how stupendous their burgers and fries are (they like to brag). I ordered a cheeseburger, and small fries to go. (Came to almost ten dollars so a little pricey). The burger was quite good, and juicy. They offer a wide variety of topping choices at no extra charge. As is typical with Five G. they give you a ridiculous amount of fries. I ordered the small portion, but there is nothing small about it. They must have a good deal with their potato supplier to give you so many fries. If you have another person to share your abundance of fries with that would be the way to go. I wish they would also offer a smaller portion (smaller than small) of fries at less cost. Five Guys offers up some tasty burgers, but I prefer the independent burger joint in Durham known as Only Burger a few miles down the road. read more

Very good burgers with lots of free toppings. Yes, it's a national chain, but the ingredients are fresh, and the service is fast. Peanuts while you wait (so if you have an allergy, you may want to avoid the place altogether). A few notes: the regular burger has two patties. If you aren't a big eater, order the "little" burgers. Also, one order of regular fries is more than enough for my husband, 4 year old, and me. There is no kid's menu, but they have hotdogs and grilled cheeses if your little one doesn't do burgers. I love a great hamburger. Five Guys seems to know how to make a great hamburger. The Durham location is in an awkward location. You will see signs posted on the interstate giving "minimal" directions, but you are really on your own to find it (maybe I should Yelp about NC DOT signage). Anyhow, the staff is very friendly. The food and condiments are fresh and plentiful. I ordered a burger all the way. And that is what I got. It was loaded, which was fine. If anyone says Five Guys is skimpy on french fries, then they perhaps have a hole the bag from the counter to the table. Five Guys provides a ton of fries in the bag and seasoned very well. I didn't have to add salt. I did have to wait to eat them because they were HOT out of the fryer. While you are waiting for your order there are plenty of peanuts to eat. I have not had a bad experience at Five Guys. Sure, the price is a bit more than other burger places, but worth every penny. read more
