Well hello there Yelp. Long time, no reviewing... OK. We got a Five Guys in El Cajon now. What once was a crappy east county mall, with stores like Cowgirl Bling, now has some decent tasty burgers. I'll admit, when it comes to burgers that are a step above the fast food restaurants in the almighty burger pyramid, I prefer In-N-Out. However, Five Guys has many options that I appreciate that In-N-Out doesn't. Here is a quick comparison. -The special sauce at In-N-Out goes perfectly with their burgers. I wish you could get this concoction of sauce at Five Guys but then it would be In-N-Out I guess. -The fries at Five Guys are way better than In-N-Out's. Plus you order a small and get tons of bag fries. Like they just use that container for a scoop. -Toppings. Five Guys has them all. I love my burger with jalapenos, but sometimes if I add almost everything they have it gets to be too much. An In-N-Out Double Double Animal Style is a beautiful thing. Still, it's nice to be able to build your burger. -Drinks. Five Guys has those new computer crazy soda machines that old people shouldn't be allowed to use. In-N-Out has awesome milkshakes. Oh yeah, Five Guys has hot dogs! So anyways, it is hard to compare the two. I guess I will visit either or. One thing about this place that is nice is the service. This tall guy that works there always brings my kids little pieces of paper and crayons to doddle with. Another time I was there a worker got our food for us since we had our hands full getting kids drinks etc. My only grip about this place is too many of the tall tables with bar stool type chairs. I know I can sit outside but I'm an indoor sitter type person. So I put my 3 year old in one and pray she doesn't fall off. Other than that, I'm glad this Five Guys is close to home. read more

Ok, so I came to 5 guys because a few of my friends told me it's better then in n out. Ok so let's be clear in n out is way better don't get me wrong the food was ok. But the reason they are getting a 3 star instead of 5 is because how much I paid for a cheeseburger, medium fries and medium drink, I paid $16.75 for a meal for myself. Who the he'll pays something like that. I will never eat their again. I could have had better food at in n out and paid for an entire meal for $7.00 5 guys might want to think to start lowering the price of the food, the quality of the food is not worth that kind of money read more

Wow very loud place. Ordered no onions they put tons. Music in back of place was so loud couldn't hear even people talking next to you or even hear your order to be called . No loud speakers. Manager sat at a table on phone taking up a seat when restaurant got crowded on Saturday night at 530 and I'm sure heard me complain but did nothing. I rarely crave hamburgers, but tonight I did. My husband reminded me that a Five Guys had opened up in El Cajon so we bolted over there. Now, I've only been to a Five Guys Burgers and Fries once before, up in Camarillo. I remember liking it, but that was about it. When we walked in we were greeted immediately but then it was like that weird moment where we were just standing there staring at the menu, undecided. I turned and asked my husband what size of fries we should share, what we'd shared in the past, etc., when the cashier sort of rudely interrupted our conversation asking if we'd visited before. We said yes and then, me being the awkward flusterer type, I got nervous that we were taking too long to order so I just ran to the counter and said "CHEESEBURGER". She asked me a bunch of fast questions like what I wanted on it and if I wanted a combo, grilled, raw -- I don't know. I was flustered! I ended up putting a bunch of random shit on my burger, but thankfully it came out tasting great. There was another employee who was nice enough to throw our trash away for us too once we were done, even though the trashcan was on our way out. Anyway, some points: - Take a minute and figure out the menu. Better yet, check it in advance. The menu itself is pretty straightforward, but the available free add-ons are plentiful and a bit overwhelming. Especially if you're awkward like me. - You can order online and pick up. - They have the smallest water cups ever. Come on, man! - One regular order of fries is more than enough for two people to share. - Don't come here if you're allergic to peanuts. I like Five Guys more than In-N-Out or most of the other burger chains. Their fries aren't the greatest, but I'll have to try their cajun fries next time around. And the next time around I'm going to write my order on my hand in advance so I don't freak out again. read more

I've never tried five guys before and that's odd because I love burgers! The food is absolutely delicious! I got a bacon cheeseburger and fries and I finished it all! They serve peanuts as well for free, which is always a plus. On top of the delicious food the service was outstanding! Clay B in particular was fun, friendly, and professional! My wife and I had tried out the 5 Guys in Liberty Station a while back, shortly after they opened, and were left with an entirely underwhelmed experience. So we were a little hesitant to try this one, but I'm glad we did. Where the Liberty Station venue seemed to be lost in the Point Loma hipster pretension, the El Cajon location felt a lot more down to earth. Real people. Food was much better, and the speed of service was pretty good too. They seriously overloaded our order of fries, which was unexpected, but appreciated. The only downside was the volume of the music. My wife and I had come here for a date night, and weren't able to talk much. So we munched on our burgers in relative quiet, and did our talking once we got back of the restaurant. read more

Just went there tonight with 4 friends. The music, "HARD ROCK", was so loud we couldn't even have a conversation. Most of the tables (and the floor under the tables) were dirty. We cleaned off our table. Everyone enjoyed their food but I'm not sure we will ever go back due to the music, dirty floor and tables. read more

Big disappointment. Food is overpriced and messy. Dirty floor ( full of peanuts' shells), sticky tables. The music was so loud that it gave me a headache. I've seen couples with small children eating in that noise. I thought to myself that it was irresposible to expose these babies to so much noise for so long...Anyway,I thought eating outside will be more peaceful...No chance, music as loud as inside. Online ordering? Awesome! Great staff? Cool! Prices? Ehhh The burgers? Alright. I ordered online and was told my order would be ready in 10 minutes. The free toppings they let you put on your burger was a really cool touch. The staff was really cool and energetic and very friendly. The place was also as clean as could be. So, my only disappointment? The food. Fries were extremely soggy and cold. The burger was pretty okay. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best thing I've ever had (like everyone else says). But the burger was very very fresh. And huge! Just wish it was "the best thing ever". And the prices are a big downfall here. You have to limit yourself to not too many trips here because of the price. Nothing really beats in n out prices and quality. read more

My first order from this Five Guys was pretty good. I didn't get a chance to eat it until I got back to the office which resulted in the burger being a little cold. Not their fault, but mine. Bad bad bad if minus grades were available this place deserves a minus 100. Ordered thru door dash and not only did I not get what was ordered but what was delivered was awful. Hamburgers usually are expected to have mayo and lettuce or something. I got meat and a bun,period. There were no options on the online menu but there was a picture of something that looked good. Watch out that you don't fill up on the free peanuts while you wait. They're addicting. The hamburgers are pretty small. They taste great. The fries are really good. My wife and I were on our way back from the hospital and I wanted a Burger. I was debating on going to in-and-out Burger but didn't wanna chance the long wait? So we decided to go to 5 guys instead. Well, we made a big mistake. It cost us almost $26 for our dinner of 2 little burgers, small fries and a shake, and everything about it was horrible!! The milkshake was thin and not mixed correctly for $5.99, the small fries for $3.89 were way over valued and our burgers were soggy. I think I'm done with 5 guys for a very long time! That same meal would have cost us less than $15 for both of us at in-and-out Burger. WAY overpriced and not worth it. read more

Stopped in for the first time to try just an order of fries since they topped a recent list for Best fries. While the portion size was large, we didn't care for the fries. We prefer Del Taco fries. So totally different. More like some skin on fries. Maybe similar to In N Out or Wendy's. Oh well. read more

I am a big burger fan, i have tried many Burger Restaurants, Five guys is one of my Favorite Restaurants. The Meat taste Great, i can not find anything bad to say about their Burger, i used to drive around half an hour just to have their Burger, but now, i am very happy to have it in my area. I usually order the Bacon Cheese Burger (ALL THE WAY) with Cajun Fries, it might be too salty for some people, but its great, if you don't like salty food, just order regular Fries. First time here. Burger was great, thin bun though, and very sloppy. Soda selection is great with multiple flavors for each drink. Cajun style fries are good but over seasoned. Not salty, but a longer cook and less seasoning would have been perfect. It's cool how they call orders out and the crew seems very organized. Crap service. One star is because the burger was still good, even cold. Arrived at 10:50am. One person in the place already waiting on his order. Ordered no problem. A few people came in after me and ordered. Only one soda machine is working. The one that is working is out of over 50% of the offerings. I made do with what was available. Person after me complained about the soda. People after us start getting their food. We ask where our order is. Told burgers done just waiting on fries. Great. Ordered food here on Uber eats. Food came warm but unfortunately the order was slightly off putting. The buns were really soggy, I mean way more were holding it was making the bun split. I originally liked Five Guys but is seems the more I try them the less I like them. They start with pretty decent ingredients but I don't like the way they put them together. Buns are pretty average to begin with but why don't they toast them like most places? Then they pile all your toppings on and wrap it in foil and smash the soft bun some more. Who else wraps their burgers up tight in foil like you're going to bake a potato or something? All orders are shoved in a paper bag to go even though seems the majority of diners are eating in. Guess they didn't want to go the fancy route with plastic trays. Also they put the burger on the bottom of the bag and pile your order of fries on top so you get to fish though the fries to get out your foil wrapped burger. Hmmm maybe I just answered my own question about the foil wrapping it protects the burger from the pile of greasy salty fries. They have 3 sizes of fries and even the "Little" is enough for 2 people. I would prefer a "Teeny" order of fries for a dollar less. I usually throw out half the fries. I think the food would all taste better if they served it on a tray partially wrapped like normal where it could all breathe a little. Any way I give up on Five Guys to many other good burgers options out there. read more

It's not a quality burger experience. Sorry. The burger is like the ones you get as a kid off the backyard BBQ grill. Meanwhile, the adults are eating steak. It's small, and pedestrian. At $6 it's useless. If you think $6 for a kids backyard burger is worth paying you need your head examined. Go buy a package of hamburger and some cheap buns at Food4Less and you can make at least 4 of this style burger for that price. Nowhere near the quality or experience of an In-N-Out. Save your money and get your grill on with the cooler full of beer. read more

Quality ingredient fast food. In the same air of another much fabled burger joint, five guys takes it up a notch with more optional ingredients, seasoned fries, and other menu options. The other place has something called animal style, but when you get the fully loaded here, it makes the animal style seem tame. And I don't know why they offer any size other than small for their fries, because it's enough to be a meal in itself. I also love that they have those super cool soda fountains that have a million different flavor options. The gentleman taking orders today at 1:00pm was extremely rude. I kindly asked if they make double hamburgers, as I can't have cheese but like big meals. He replied with some serious sass, saying "hold on one minute sir." I waited as he yelled out ONE MEAT DOWN. He then returned to me with a smug "what can I get for you sir." I repeated my question, do you make double hamburgers? "we only do what's on the menu, what can I get for you sir?" I've worked as a bartender for a couple years, with several fast food restaurants on my resume, and I would never treat a guest like this. Finally decided to take a chance and try five guys. I eat pretty healthy, but wanted a burger tonight. A local radio show was comparing or at least voting on In-N-Out Burger's, five guys and Shake shack. I'm local, thus an in-N-Out Burger guy. At least for faster food. Absolutely disappointed. My burger was very similar to the Carl's Jr. happy star I had on a road trip recently. More like traditional fast food. Burger King, Jack-in-the-Box, etc. I know this is only one time, and only one location. But I was told I'd be blown away. A little confused. If I gave five guys two stars. They havr a digital soda fountain! Lots and lots of options if you like soda! They have by far the best fries of any fast food joint! They give you a huge amount of large cut fries. Definitely has a unique taste compared to other burgers. Love all the free peanuts! Although this location was a bit noisier than other Five Guy burger places I've been too. Also, the cashier forgot to hand me our drinks and the people in line in front of us too. And we had to get back into line just to get them.
