I REFUSED to eat at Five Guys. My hubby loves these type of joints so I agreed to give it an opportunity. As soon as I walked in, I could feel the oil on my skin and entering my pores. The smell of grease and fried foods was overwhelming. Even though I was STARVING, I walked out. I literally left my husband there to marinate in the grease while I drove elsewhere to get a meal. When I returned for him, he brought out a bag of food that THE OIL/GREASE was SEEPING THROUGH the bag. I'm sorry. I just don't get it, I guess. Everyone is going off about how great this place is, and it's just another cheap, mediocre fast food joint. The last visit, I ordered a burger with cheese, shrooms, onions, and I wanted bacon, but no go. There was no cheese either -- they have Yellow Cheeselike Glop. This is not cheese. The mushrooms were canned. Not that canned mushrooms are the end of the world but again, nothing special. The bun was the high point, a larger version of the venerable White Castle greasy-sweet wonderbun. I had to beg for A1 sauce, and was given a plastic ramekin. The only condiment customers are trusted with is ketchup. And there wasn't any, by the way. The thing was empty. The burger didn't rate A1 sauce anyway. They were the usual fast food patty: skinny, salty, overcooked meat cookies. It's not that the burgers are horrible, it's just that they're expensive and mediocre. And for almost $10, they're not much better than Checkers. I think the thing that is bothering me most is the way this place is hyped as a mecca for burger snobs. Holding the idea of the place against the reality of it is like giving an Ethiopian a piece of wax fruit. There was also a lot of hype posted on the walls about how great the fries were. They were soggy.. Big whoop. I don't care if you're paying $100 each to have potatoes grown in Stag's Leap next to the cab grapes, if you don't cook them right -- and drain them right -- they're just fries. Another thing they had all over the place was garbage. Every table was covered with crumbs and sticky blobs of ketchup, fry grease, and dried up soda. Squashed fries and stepped on condiment packages mined the floor with no-friction zones. The bathroom looked like the kind of bad-neighborhood gas station outhouse where you are given a key on a long wooden plank and sent on a ninja mission around back. There was no soap. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against the place, I just don't get the hype. I can go to Peter Pan for a proper burger and be waited on for the same price, For only a couple bucks more, I can go across the street to Waxy's and get friendlier service, a good beer and a nicer vibe than the institutional gray offered here. And if I want to dig my salty, burnt meat cookies with fake cheese goo and tasteless canned "vegetables" out of a paper bag, there's a golden arches and a BK a stone's throw away for 1/2 the price and I don't even have to get out of the car. So I couldn't possibly be against the place -- it would have to rate as an option before I could be for or against it. read more

I went here for the first time today since everyone raves about the burgers. In my opinion, burgers are just OK...not the best I've tasted. One bad thing is that they only offer American cheese on the burgers and the cheese is so processed. Must say the fries are very good though. It's a chain but I have now given up meat- and let me tell you their veggie option is awesome you can any veggie you want and it's just great! The only thing that makes me upset is the peanuts just out in the open- no where at this location does it say open peanuts or anything on the door if you have a peanut allergy don't enter! When want a good cheeseburger and fries, the only place to go is Five Guys! Weve gone several times and the burger has always been cooked perfect and the fries are always, alwsys hot. For my cheat Sundays, I recommend the double burger with bque sauce and jalepenos. The jalepenos are freshly cut not pickled. Definately gives it a good kick. The staff is always friendly here. In my opinion, this is the best place to get burgers in Ft. Lauderdale. It definitely beats Gilbert's, it's neighboring burger joint. Burgers are delicious, served with unlimited toppings and on a great bun. I'm not crazy about the fries, but plenty of people love them; order them Cajun and well done. If you order fries, expect your bag to be soaked through with grease, but that's part of the experience here. I absolutely love these burgers and fries! As some others have said, the price is a little high, but you get what you pay for. My only complaints are: 1) I don't like the atmosphere for dining in, but we usually take out so it's not an issue. 2) They don't have milkshakes...come one, guys! and 3) there is ALWAYS gristle in the burgers, and I hate chewing on gristle and then having to get it out. I haven't been to five guys in a while and went with my friend to this location. Alana took our order and was so sweet and personal. The food is obviously very good, but the part that really mattered to me was the customer service. Especially when I left my purse there and was completely freaking out. Alana was again the first person to greet me and the manger got my purse back to me. Both assured me everything was safe there when it was with them. I told Alana I would get another drink after this craziness and she asked her manager if she could give it to me for free. It sounds stupid, but that meant so much to me. I will definitely be back. Ordered 2 things to go...as I walked to the car both were wrong. The guy who took the order was barely able to work the register (regular guy was not there). First visit here while visiting family. I was sent to get take-out burgers for everyone - 5 orders in total. The women who waited on me seemed seemed really annoyed that I didn't understand the ordering process. I began by saying "everything but onions" and similar, which made the situation worse. I finally just had to say, "Let me just tell you exactly what I want on each burger. This worked until she asked me, "Well, I just need to know how many patties we need to make for your order." Well, I wasn't aware that each burger had two patties! Don't try to confuse me with your burger-math! I finally got my order and I'm sure the burgers were really good, but I was so frustrated I couldn't even taste mine. I might eat a burger from here again- but only if someone else orders it!! read more

I'll admit, they make a pretty mean burger, but the way people wrote facebook status's about their mouths salivating from Five Guys burgers just put my expectations pretty high. They're fries are good. You get a choice between regular and Cajun. The small is plenty enough, seeing as they throw a scoop of more fries into the bag after placing the fries you ordered in there, which makes for a pretty greasy bag. But compared to other burger joints, Five Guys has the taste of a home made straight-from-the-grill burger. And with the reasonable pricing , it should definitely be experienced. read more

I've been on a hamburger kick as of late and I wanted to find the best burger for my $$ in and around Ft Lauderdale. This was my first visit to five guys and I have to say it was highly enjoyable. I don't care for the yelling from the staff but I'm sure that is because of the kitchen noise I guess. Everything about the food is marvelous! The burgers aren't too meaty nor are they flimsy and weak. I ordered bacon burger with ketchup, pickles, lettuce and tomato and boy was I satisfied. I also loved the consistency of the fries and saw they also have a cajun seasoning for them as well. When I got up to get ketchup the pump dispenser was empty and I asked the Hispanic gentleman what should I do since there was no ketchup.... he said use the packets, I said excuse me but there's no ketchup and he said use the packets of the ketchup. Stunned by his semi-rude retort as if I was bothering him, so I took a packet of ketchup (which wasn't enough) and sat back down. I still ate the fries but was mystified by what had happened.
