This is a little hard for me to do, as I've been a happy, card-carrying member of the In-n-Out cult for some time now. What I'm about to say may cause me to lose friends, get bitten by my dog and make my wife think about seeing other guys, but the truth must out. Alas, here it is: In my humble opinion, FIVE GUYS IS BETTER THAN IN-N-OUT BURGER. There. I said it. Here are my reasons: 1. Burgers. The burgers are, first, bloody huge. But that's only a good thing because they're also really tasty. They're made to order and served up hot with whatever toppings you care for (I just did cheese with lettuce, tomato, pickles, sauteed mushrooms, fresh jalapenos). You might have to unhinge your jaw to get those first few bites in, but it's worth it. 2. Fries. To be honest, I've been waffling about the fries. Tonight, though, I finally came down on 5G's side: I love 'em. They're quite a bit larger than typical fast food fries, which means that you can actually taste that they're made from (you'll never guess...) potatoes. Now, I'm the first one to admit that even fried gravel would have to be pretty good, but it is, ultimately, a nice thing to taste something other than 'fried' when eating fries. You can't talk about 5G's fries without mentioning a weird thing that they do. At first I thought it was a mistake, but it looks like they consistently give you at least twice as many fries as will fit in the styrofoam cup that they are nominally served in. So, you get your bag of food and the burgers are actually buried in a lovely, hot pile of loose fries in the bag. When my daughter and just ate there, we thought we'd split a large fry. The pimply-faced kid at the register sized us up and indicated that the large 'serves 4 or 5 people.' So we split a small and still could hardly finish them. Plus! Tonight I finally noticed the bottles of malt vinegar available for use in the dining room. I love me some malt vinegar on my mountain of fries! 3. Things other than burgers and fries. My kid, for reasons unclear, doesn't like burgers. So, tonight she ordered a bacon and cheese hot dog, which she also loved. Luckily, she got filled-up on all of those fries and wasn't able to finish her dog. Not wanting to waste food, I finished the last few bites and agree that that was one hell of a hot dog. So, I've converted. I'll still go to In-n-Out when I'm in California for business, but if I've got a choice between the two, I'd pick Five Guys.

    Late, so, a bit empty.

Well... THAT was disappointing. I don't know what happened to this place, it used to be a 4 even 5 star place in my book, but they're getting sloppy. First, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with no bun and extra cheese and extra bacon (both of which are considered toppings and included at no extra cost- one of things I liked about this place). They charged me for the extra bacon and extra cheese. I had to get a manager to reverse the charges. Then, I bring my hard won burger home and, a little cheese, it looked, maybe, one slice of thin cheese, it barely covered the burger, and almost no bacon, maybe 1/4 of one small slice. For almost $9, I expect one serious burger. Especially if that's all I'm ordering (no drink, no fries, not even a glass of water). $9 for a bacon cheeseburger that turned out to be 2 quarter pound patties, a little cheese and almost no bacon= pitiful. I'm sad. This used to be my go to place for the all American standby: a burger. No more.

I enjoy these burgers. Service is always pleasant. It does take a while for them to cook the burgers and they are expensive. But I love them

Good burgers, great French fries, and they make old fashion malts. Plenty of peanuts to snack on while your waiting for your order.

Maybe I just miss In-N-Out from my years and visits from the west coast days, the home territory of these burgers. And maybe I was so happy to find this one, my rating meter went up. The one in the Denver metro area formerly known as Stapleton was the first inland location I tried. I strained to give it a 4. It was crowded and slow and the veggies were so sub par, twice was enough. We are rarely in that area anyway, and it was a stretch to get there when busy, closer but not close enough to our Aurora destination. Finally today, I was able to try the newer Longmont location, more similar in situation to most of the CA and OR locations that I have tried. The veggie parts were up to standards I was used to, when every previous location I had tried further west delivered Salinas Valley-based farm products straight up I-5, likely fresh from the packing houses. This staff was right on task in traditional In-N-Out training, working quickly on a summer lunch time, getting the well done fries done, perhaps even a bit "over" well done but so much better than damp underdone as in the Denver area shop. Now that I know they pay attention, I can go back to ordering standard as I could do in CA. My onions were grilled and visible, the chopped yellow peppers had "bite." The spread ("special sauce" to you newbies) was good and just enough for a good taste without dripping all over me. The lettuce was bold green and crispy, the tomato, rich red and moist. Our drinks were fine. My husband was releived to get an optional 16oz root beer float as most in Boulder seem to be 20 oz and some even bigger. That is far too much for diners our age. No thanks. My iced tea was fine and self-serve allowed me to add water to lower the caffeine content, medically necessary. Well made fresh tea in their separate container and not a spout from a soda machine which is so much cleaner tasting and fresh. Dining tables outside are covered, perfect on a sunny warm day, which is how we always ate out west near the coast. Quite a lot of traffic on 119 going by, but not really an annoyance. It's fast food at a humongous shopping center, not fine dining in the country. I will certainly be back, maybe even considering a special trip to do so and not just tagging it on to a mandatory appointment. I wish I could give it a 5+ star rating.

I loaded my burger with EVERY ingredient, and the cashier was such a delight. We joked around, and that burger with fries and a shake was right under $10. When the drinks were handed to us, it didn't look right. We took the lids off and they did have light ice. I think they have preset fillers for sodas and because of the light ice, the cup was only 2/3 full of soda. We asked them to fill the cups to the top, as they should be. There was no issue with doing this and soon we had our full sodas, along with our meal and were on our way. The burgers come in a foil lined pouch so they stay hot. That is a step up from other fast food chains that have paper wrappings for their sandwiches. I got tots and my husband got fries. Both were hot and crispy. We asked for the spicy fry sauce and they gave us each a packet. Good food as always, just keep an eye if you ask for light ice in your drink.

So Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers tries to be like a Culver's/In&Out but I think in trying…read moreto do both that as a concept it just sort of fails. Freddy's is no where near as good as In&Out. I got their lettuce wrap burger and it was wild they gave me like an entire head of lettuce instead of just the normal 2 pieces. It was waaaaaay too much lettuce! I happen to be a big fan of Culver's and think that Culvers does a better job and the food is higher quality at Culver's. For what Freddy's is though - this was a good location. The teenage guy at the drive thru window taking our order was friendly, helpful and got all of our food correct. This location has a drive thru - which is clutch when you have kids. Overall I didn't really enjoy our food but that was more to be said about Freddy's as a chain than this particular location. In the future I'll just go to Culver's or now they have In&Out in Denver now!
