I've been to this Five Guys on Tuesday evenings for the past three weeks while I wait for my son to finish his practice. As many would agree, the food is great but what struck me is how nice the staff is. If I'd only been here once, I probably would not have noticed it. The burger quality at this store is comparable to other Five Guys however, I think the only way to describe this locations operation is a "clusterf*ck" The staff are always too busy chatting (sometimes about how bad the store is), the burgers take forever, the drinks machines are always failing. Lovely staff here in my opinion no matter the time you go. I don't indulge often, but when I do, I enjoy. Not a big fan of their regular burgers so I always opt for their single cheeseburger with some A1 sauce and their Cajun fries. Fills me up. The condiments area always look clean. Went in, ordered a hamburger, got charged for a cheeseburger, but I didn't notice it until I waited for my food. When I went back, the cashier said, "it's too late, I can't change the sale now." Pretty weak if you ask me. The burger had plenty of meat on it, but for $11 for a burger and fries, I would expect better meat quality. The patty was kinda dry and chunky. I'm not a fan. Oh five guys...how you've disappointed me in many ways. Lets start with the WORST offense: The fries: I don't even want to call them fries! Fries are supposed to be golden and crispy. These were just bland mushy oily potatoes slices. While it's nice that they did give an abundance--whats the use if they're not yummy? I also don't prefer the taste of peanut oil...these just were not doing it for me. Tons of ketchup couldn't even salvage them. I didn't finish a quarter of it. And why do they put them in a cup?! The oil just drips to the bottom and you get a big conglomerate of greasy potato mush. The burger: Also mushie. It wasn't totally bad...fairly tasty but I would attribute that more to the assortment of condiments they allow you than the actual burger. The bun was too doughie and unwarmed. The grilled onions were hardly grilled...just oily. Price wise, its way too much for what they offer: Its not a sit down burger "restaurant": its fast food. The little burger was $4.99 which is like okay....but $3.99 for a regular size of those mush fries? Ridiculous! I've eaten here a couple of times and never been blown away by their burgers. Compared to all the other burger choices in NY, this one just isn't competitive. I couldn't find a distinct flavor that makes this a signature place to return to again. Worst of all, the staff is hit or miss. The last time I was making my order the cashier kept losing her attention and telling the manager standing next to her to lower his voice (she was annoyed and made it a point to roll her eyes and vocalize this in front of customers). $9.35 for a mediocre burger. The first time I went here with a friend. They charged her almost four dollars for a small drink. When she noticed the mistake, the cashier tried to give her 75 cents. Okay, I'm giving 5 stars to even out the many shitty and irrelevant reviews of this spot, not because its the greatest place ever. Let me just say, I am from Massachusetts and have been to Five Guys many, many times. Of course, not every location is the same, but I was pleasantly surprised that the service here was fast, the burgers tasty, the cajun fries spectacular, and the same exact prices as my small city back home. I'm also a Shake Shack fan, but after trying a few times and getting tired of the large lines of tourists, hipsters, and yuppies, I gave up and decided to try this Five Guys close to Columbia. While I would say Shake Shack's burgers are tastier, its not by a wide enough margin to wait in an hour long line when you can come to Five Guys and wait all of 10 minutes. In terms of prices, I got one bacon double cheeseburger, one cheeseburger, cajun fries, and a drink for $19. I thought that was pretty cheap but I'll let you decide that one. A bacon double cheeseburger here is $8.59, a plain double cheeseburger with bacon at Shake Shack is $8, while the SmokeShack is $8.80. Seems pretty comparable to me. The place was clean and well organized (no fries on the floor or anything) and the guys working were very polite and professional. Our food came out fast and we even had a fresh batch of fries made right then (they were awesome). If you're just looking for a good burger and good fries fast without the long lines and tourists, come here. read more

I waited and waited and waited for Five Guys Burgers and Fries to open and the day it did was a cold and wet Wednesday - the perfect day for a hot and juicy burger which unfortunately was not what I got. This Five Guys is close to home. I like the hamburgers here. I usually get a little hamburger with ketchup, onions, pickle and sauteed mushrooms. What I do love is that Five Guys is the only chain that includes sauteed mushrooms without paying extra. If you like fries these are really good too. They serve a heaping portion of hot delicious fries. While you wait for your order they have barrels filled with peanuts in the shell that can keep you busy until your meal is ready. They place is always very clean which is another plus that keeps me coming back. So, if you want a fresh burger made to order then you can't do much better than Five Guys. As I have told others, I have had better burgers elsewhere. I prefer the smokey flavor of a grilled burger. There are a few restaurants that do this in NYC. I love Five Guys. I've eaten at a lot of different Five Guys restaurants. This one is the only one I would seriously say to avoid (though because it's a couple blocks from my apartment, I can't make myself take my own advice). If there's a 50% chance your order comes out right, I'd be surprised. We've had a hamburger that came with cheese, a cheeseburger that came without cheese, bacon burgers that came without bacon, pickles that arrived as tomatoes, cajun fries that arrived as regular fries, and so on. In some cases, enough mistakes that the burger as it arrived bore no resemblance to what was ordered. And it didn't arrive quickly, either -- you can expect to wait up to 25 minutes. You can usually eliminate one major mistake by reading your receipt closely, but I haven't figured out anything to do about the problems that come in the making of the food. We've complained repeatedly through the Five Guys website. You get a reply from the franchise owner('s staff) with an offer of a free meal, which is generally in one way or another too annoying to actually obtain. And nothing changes. With problems this pervasive, you can only conclude: Worst-run Five Guys franchise ever. read more

I really like the concept: if you just want bread and burger you got it. But if you want all in, you can also have it! The food is good. Unfortunately every time I went to this one the floor and tables were dirty and they should take the cleaning more seriously. Maybe I'm just tainted, because we do better burger at bbq's and I can'[t really come to justify the price for their burgers. I have gone there a few times at different locations, its good if you're craving home-styled burgers, and are too lazy to make your own.
