It is instances like this where I wish I could give half stars, because this is a solid three and a half stars. I do not understand why this restaurant is only open for dinner on the weekdays. It is weird to think about considering the output of what they are offering. Unless there is some component to the cooking process that waits a long time, being open for brunch on the weekends seems bizarre. But I digress. The two menu items I ordered here were the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and their Chicken Ramen. I know, two meals at the complete opposite ends of the spectrum. The chicken sandwich is good, as the chicken is moist and juicy, not super hot by any means, but it is incredibly messy to eat. Without the heat, it feels like a simple southern fried chicken sandwich I could get at nearby Jacob's Pickles. Speaking of which, it does come with a side pickle, which is nice, as it helps aid in the digestion of this sandwich easily. The ramen is a little questionable. The broth is not too heavy, but the noodles in it are too gummy and the rest of the meal seemed rushed. I did not feel this was a bowl of ramen I should be getting here. This is not the place for it. $50 for two menu options is the norm for Upper West Side dining, so consider that before taking the 1 train to eat here. I had heard about Chick Chick once, in passing, about two years ago, and it wasn't until recently that I finally got the chance to try it. My friend and I came here at her suggestion, and I was so glad she recommended it. Chick Chick blew me away with its flavors. It was delicious, and I ate it happily. The chicken was topped with crushed peanuts, which I think would have been better had it been topped with roasted garlic instead. Let's talk about this Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. This sandwich was amazing the chicken was crispy, flavorful and well seasoned. We ordered super tenders with the sweet gochujang sauce, heavenly crispy bites (popcorn chicken bites) sweet and spicy, 2 sides of white kimchi slaw, 2 sides of pickles, truffle parm fries and a K&Q by Christine salad too. $93.63 The truffle parm fries are good, crispy and thin. The salad isn't too bad, heavy on the Parmesan slices, but still an interesting blend of tastes and textures too. Can't decide if I like it or not. Lots of quinoa it. Not a big fan of the white kimchi slaw, more creamy than I was expecting. The heavenly crispy bites with the rice cakes is really good. The rice cakes are nice and chewy and the sweet and spicy sauce makes it really good. The chicken is tender and perfectly cooked. The chicken tenders are decently sized. The sauce is good too. The truffle fried rice was also really good with the truffle smell/taste noticeable with each bite. I also liked that the fried rice wasnt too greasy. We ordered a grape soju cocktail and 2 half chickens: 1 with soy garlic sauce and 1 with sweet gochujang sauce. This was more than enough for three hungry people. They put maple syrup on the sandwich but somehow got it so that it didn't make the waffles soggy. I felt the cheese could have come more melty, though. For some reason it seemed like the sandwich had been sitting out for long enough that the cheese hardened and it didn't taste as fresh. There's also enclosed outdoor dining in the front. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had the Thai sweet chili chicken sandwich, which was enormous. I'm used to chicken sandwiches being closer to palm sized so it was super surprising and satisfying. It was a little messy to eat since the bun didn't fit around the bread. Towards the end I just cut it up into bite sized pieces. I wish there were a few more cubes of radish or other pickles. I would recommend ordering a side to share with friends in addition to your chicken.
