Great experience at this location today! My family and I came to eat after the museum of natural history and exploring the city and it didn't disappoint. I wish i took photos of my food or this location but I ate too fast ! My husband ordered the food at the kiosk and entered his phone number and got a $10 coupon for spending more than $30. Total was $49 which is expensive but food was excellent. We got 2 burgers, 3 fries and 3 drinks. We sat downstairs with our numbers where an employee was using a walkie to talk to the employees upstairs. They brought our food to us and it was fresh. The employee working downstairs today around 5pm was so nice and helpful. Made sure tables were clean and we had all we needed. Excellent service from her. I used the bathroom after which there was a line for but the bathrooms were very clean. They have 2 bathrooms, i went into the smaller one but i was surprised with how clean it was. This This burger chain is world-famous, and I've tried it in other countries, including Shanghai. I've always thought their burgers tasted pretty good, better than average fast-food burgers. Its origins trace back to the US, right here in New York, so I had high expectations. Sadly, my experience here was a huge letdown. It wasn't even as good as the locations overseas. Value for money is extremely poor. The beef patty was slightly burnt, and the overall flavour combination felt off. It's surprising that in the birthplace of hamburgers, this iconic brand can only deliver such mediocre quality. I'm quite disappointed and won't be ordering from this chain again while in the US. With its proximity to the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park, this location can get quite busy, but I went for a very late lunch or very early dinner, so the lines weren't too long. My pick-up experience was very positive, thanks to the friendly, helpful staff. When I arrived, I couldn't locate the pick-up counter, so I asked one of the staff. They told me and very kindly guided me to where it was, at the back of the restaurant. The staff with the pick-up orders was also very friendly. Although it was a very short time, by the time I got home, the food wasn't hot. I'd arrived before my pick-up time, but my order was already there, so maybe it'd been sitting there for a bit. Both my Shack Burger and Fries were still good, though. Their burgers aren't as greasy as some other places and the fries are crinkle cut fries. I love ketchup and realized after I got home that I should've gotten extra, because I use it for both my burger and fries, and it only came with 2 packets. Note for next time. I came in around 830pm, it wasn't very crowded. I was able to get a table upstairs right after ordering. I order one vanilla milkshake. Multiple people, including large orders with food, came and went while I still waited. Some of these orders included milkshakes so I know it was operating. I came to grab lunch here during my day at the Natural History Museum. At first I couldn't understand why no one was at the register for me to place my order and I waited there for about 10 minutes but then I realized that even though they had a register, it wasn't in use. I went to one of the iPads provided near the register to manually enter my order. I like ordering from the iPad although a little face-to-face interaction never hurt anyone. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a diet coke. The food was made and delivered quickly and it was delicious. This place is ridiculously slow. As in, I've been here twice and although I've ordered for small parties (4 people) each time, it's never taken me faster than 20-30min to get my order. Staff is hardly what I'd call friendly. If you MUST order here, use the kiosks as they're faster than ordering from the often unmanned register. Also be aware that their portions are tiny. As my mom says, they're "kid-sized burgers for adult prices". We received creamsicle shake at perhaps half the cup full, even before it melted. I'd recommend eating your burgers fresh, and while there's limited seating here (even on the second floor), you can bring your food across the street to one of the many benches at the Museum of Natural History on a nice day. The burgers are decent enough but the quality and quantity has definitely gone downhill from when I enjoyed my first Shake Shack. If anything, I'd recommend the Shack Stack for a spicy burger, or the Shroom Burger. The Korean-style fries and burger are sold here for a limited time and they aren't bad either. read more

They have a giant neon sign that has an arrow pointing people to pick up orders at one counter, but I watched as they told every person who came up to the counter to do that to go to a different counter for a pickup. On top of that, they were sold out of things without anything being marked as such on any menus or signs. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I have never encountered such atrocious treatment from any establishment before. It was a complete waste of time even going to the cashier. The young woman working at the front counter, along with what I assume is the supervisor on duty--an African American lady who was shouting orders from the back--demonstrated a shocking lack of customer service skills. If she claims to be a leader, she should be removed immediately, as her behavior clearly shows she does not understand the meaning of proper customer care. I didn't even get the chance to enjoy my meal at Shake Shack or place an order because the front desk staff told us at 3:10pm on April 14 that she needed to process the employee's order first, implying that customers are not a priority. We waited patiently and clearly wanted to place our order, but eventually we gave up and left the counter because she left it ,leaving us standing. Additionally, I advise against bringing children here; don't bother taking more than two crayons, as it caused chaos because I took four crayons instead of two. I had to try shake shack in NY because its the "in N out " of the east! But I have to say that it is very different. I almost don't feel like its comparing apples to apples. In n out is a very simple burger place with fresh ingredients. Shake Shack has a lot of variety. I had some fancy Yuzu Lemonade drink... like what? It was delicious. Seating was still taped off as of late September 2021 and they prefer you ordering at their kiosks. At least the restrooms downstairs were still available if you needed to use them. However, anything you order can't be consumed inside and since our hotel was not that close, we ate outside by one of the side streets and luckily finished our meal before it started to rain! I really wanted BF to try one of their concretes, but that's off the menu for now. Instead we ordered their cornflake chocolate drizzle shake ($6.29). New to me since my first NYC Shake Shack trip was the Chick'n Shack ($7.49) so we ordered that too, minus the pickle and add tomato. We also ordered the Shackburger Double ($8.99) and cheese fries ($4.15). BF completely agrees with me that the Shackburger Double tasted much better in NYC than in Vegas! We both enjoyed the Shackburger over the Chick'n Shack, though for a chicken sandwich, the Chick'n Shack was pretty good. The cheese for the cheese fries came on the side to avoid sogging up the fries too quickly and it was a very nice complement to the burgers. While I was sad we couldn't experience a Shake Shack concrete, the shake we got was very yummy. I was looking forward to my new strawberry shake, but the whipped cream had melted.It was also cold and already hard. It was an unbelievable sight. I'll be the first to admit I've never understood what the Shake Shack hype is all about. I had it once about a decade ago, and I liked it well enough, but I never quite grasped why people would wait in lines for hours for burgers and fries. My friend and I came for indoor dining to try their black truffle burger, only available December 2020 and only at the UWS and MadSqPk locations. There is one functioning self-serve kiosk for ordering, then you wait for them to call your name or text you if you left your number. Indoor diners were socially distanced with the help of spaced out tables and blocked off booths. We ordered the black truffle burger with cheese fries, Fifty/Fifty drink (lemonade and iced tea), and 2 shakes (cookies and cream, and strawberry). The food was unfortunately pretty disappointing. The truffle burger was a bit dry and didn't taste much like truffles, the cheese for the cheese fries was too thick and not conducive to dipping, and the drink was overly tart. The best part of the meal was the fries, which were crispy and warm, and the shakes (even though they gave me chocolate instead of cookies and cream, but I didn't realize til we left bc we'd ordered it to go). If I weren't rating the burger on its juiciness or the cheese sauce on its consistency, I'd say everything was okay bc the flavors were good. The reason for the 4-star review is definitely because of the great service of the Shake Shack team. Everyone we encountered was friendly, courteous, and ready to go above and beyond to help us out with anything we needed. Shake Shack is my favorite burger chain in NYC (and now even in Asia!). Just can't go anywhere else for a burger, especially their Shack Burger and S'hroom Burger (Portobello mushroom burger). Quality is always good - burgers are made to order and still warm and delicious by the time I dash in to pick up my mobile app order. Love the UWS location because we always manage to snag a table at night.
