Went to Tacombi Upper West Side with a friend for a quick bite on a Saturday late afternoon/early dinner. The space is quite large, with plenty of seating inside and on the sidewalk. We were seated quickly, and the service was attentive. I ordered the agua de sandía (watermelon juice) and the Baja crispy fish taco, while my friend got two tacos. The watermelon juice was refreshing, and fresh, without added sugar. The tacos were flavorful and enjoyable, and I appreciate that they are served on corn tortillas. We were also given complimentary chips and salsa. I've visited several Tacombi locations across NYC, and they are consistently reliable in both quality and experience. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality of food. I would definitely recommend this location, as well as any of their others. read more

The last time I had Tacombi I went to the UES location and really enjoyed it. The experience here is not the same. We dined here for Taco Tuesday. Around 6pm all tables were taken; lots of families dining! We were told 15-25 minutes for a table but I'm not even sure we waited 5 minutes. We definitely waited longer for someone to take our order, which wound up being the hostess. Based on the service we received (barely any throughout our entire meal), it seems this location would be better suited for ordering at a counter, seating yourself and having your number called when food is ready (or brought to you). The taco Tuesday special is BOGO with cheaper tacos taken off bill. I had the Al pastor, crispy fish and barbacoa, which was a special collaboration (and the most expensive at $7.99). They have a good kid's menu. Much improved from when I was here years ago and the food was too spicy for kids. I ordered a michelada; it's $3 more than the price of the beer you choose. I was a little suspicious of what it might taste like when brought to the table. Whatever they use to make the michelada was brown. It wound up tasting pretty good. read more

Walked in wanting a quick taco for me and my son and instantly was greeted with horrible customer service. The night manager needs to reevaluate her position. Speaking spanish like people don't understand in NYC is despicable. Very antagonizing escalates problems and sarcasm to the point her manager comped my whole meal. Frequent customer and usually get a very good Burrita. Unfortunately, we walked 8 blocks to purchase 3 Burritas on Sunday afternoon and brought them home; that's 16 blocks total. Unfortunately, one of the three was made incorrectly. Mistakes occur and it really is easily resolved. Instead of "I am sorry that we made an error, we will replace it', I WAS INTERROGATED BY 2 DIFFERENT EMPLOYEES AS TO WHAT WAS WRONG. Not the manager, he was too busy. That's mistake number 2...... Both of the employees were argumentative, questioning several times why it was made wrong. After far too long and not saying we are sorry, and we will gladly replace it OR we will give you a refund OR we will replace it AND give you a refund for your trouble. Nope, argued, wanted to know what employee took the order, the exact wording of the order, what the receipt stated, and so on. I am a reasonable person; however, the customer service and order accuracy recovery truly sucks! So unfortunately that I will never be a Tocombi customer again. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a long time! I can overllook the noise, and the fact it was over 80 degrees without AC, but cannot ignore that food did not come! We ordered and then waited and waited and waited! Finally two tacos arrived, and then we waited and waited and waited. We then grabbed our waiter and he said they were coming. Finally the manager came and said the order was not placed. At last they came, but who wanted them when two people were done. Never again. The management and service was terrible. Amazing taco assortment - not a vegetarian but the veggie options are delish, from the avocado tostada to the black bean and sweet potato taco. Watermelon agua fresca is a summertime delight. We came in as a party of four, all ordered simple meals - one of the people in our group got tacos ... we all got our main courses and they did not ... so we waited about 15 minute for these tacos ... they come out & they're the wrong tacos. I thought it was cheese until I pull it up & it's just the fat... we call over the waiter again & at this point, we're over it... he goes "oh yeah that's a lot of fat, I'll get a replacement". At this point, my friends are hungry so they eat ... I didn't receive my "replacement burrito" until everyone ate already lol ... no apology or anything ... but wait for it .. we get the bill & we were charged for TWO BURRITOS. I was in the area and my kids and I were thirsty. We stumbled across Tacombi and when we walked in, the first thing we saw was, "JUGOS NATURALES". I would have settled for some pharmacy brand water but was excited to have some real fruit juices. The woman at the counter was very nice. My son and I picked the Jamaica (Hibiscus), and my daughter opted for the Piña. The piña is sweetened with bits of pineapple in it. I liked the flavor and she finished every drop. Be advised that the hibiscus is unsweetened, and is highly tart. I don't usually have added sugar to my drinks, and I love hibiscus so I welcomed the tartness. However, THIS hibiscus is legit, and very concentrated, so definitely add at least a few drops of agave to cut the tart. I still liked it but I definitely puckered lol It's funny, because I've never seen Tacombi before, and since we visited, I've seen one other a few days afterwards, during another trip to the city. Who knew good Mexican restaurants were in the upper west side!! This was an excellent taco spot and besides were delicious too! We loved the large guacamole, corn taste, and rice and beans. My favorite tacos were the Pastor and Carne Asada service was wonderful and we were seated quickly with lots of indoor options. Also, the pineapple aqua Fresca delicious. I was meeting a friend of mine here for lunch. I told him that the tacos at Tacombi were really good and that I highly recommended them so he met me at a table by the window. The menu is unique because they give you pencils to mark what you want. You can also order a variety of tacos rather than only sets of one type. I ordered three different tacos with a variety of proteins to see which one I liked the best. The waiter was kind enough to take our picture together while he was taking our order. I hadn't seen my friend in a long while so I appreciated that. The tacos were really good and each bite was juicy and flavorful. There wasn't a single try bite or a bite that was too moist. The spices and flavors that were used were really good too. I would love to come back and try some of their other menu items. I'd say the items are definitely overpriced for what they serve (almost $7 for one birria taco) and honestly didn't have much flavor to back up the pricing. Luis was a great server! And the tacos were amazing!!! I have never really liked birria but dang the flavors of the meat, so tender and the grilled smokiness was sooo good. The al pastor had a slice of pineapple on top with the seasoning just right, not too salty or overpowering. My seared fish taco was a little dry. The pineapple and watermelon aqua frescas were refreshing and not too sweet. Also don't skip the corn in a cup, like normally i pass on corn cuz its usually overcooked and sitting in a pot for too long but mmmm so good and then i added some lime...chef's kiss. I ate so much my food baby had a baby and I wasn't mad. Only I didn't get to try their churros so that's on the list for next time. Also holler out to the manager for going above and beyond with handling my husband's food allergy to cilantro. Fried baja fish tacos and corn esquites are our favorites. Their handmade corn tortillas hold the menu together. Getting their chips and guacamole is luxurious and feels like a splurge. Try the drinks, too. They have bottles of their red, green, and smoked salsas at every table. It's spacious. The dining room spans almost half a block. Tried Tacombi on the recommendation of a friend, and it certainly won't be the last time I go back. To start, our group shared chips and some of the best guac I've ever had--it was AMAZING. Then got into the entrees and loved both the carne carne asada and al pastor tacos that I tried. The dishes are simple, but delicious. And while I didn't try a burrito, they looked delicious and were a decent size for the price. If you want really good tacos and margaritas, Tacombi is always a good choice. This is my second location I have visited (first being Empire State Building). Outdoor dining was a good choice. I was in the neighborhood and was in the mood for fish tacos and I knew that this place definitely had it so we decided to stop by. I have been to other Tacombi's but never at this location. This location was pretty large with both outdoor and indoor seatings. They check vaccination cards and your temperature when you come in. We arrived around 11 am on a Saturday and there were plenty of empty seats. The staff was super nice and friendly. Sadly I did find the food a bit lackluster. We decided to get: -Gacu with chips: not bad; but nothing too special. The chips were seasoned but the guac was nothing special but cannot really go wrong with this. -Corn Esquites: Super bomb - definitely my favorite dish from here. It is pretty much mexican corn without the cob - so flavorful and a nice kick of spice. -Al pastor tacos: These were okay; a bit dry but the flavor was decent -Baja fish taco: I was most excited for this but it was pretty disappointing. The fish was super crispy on the outside but it did not taste very fresh on the inside. I was not a huge fan and I definitely had better fish tacos in other places.
