The worst Five Guys experience I've had. The place itself is a narrow corridor that makes getting around difficult, especially if you go during a busy time of day. The burger was lackluster. Soggy bun, not flavorful meat, lack of condiments (the tiniest drops of ketchup and BBQ sauce). Drink machine made the funkiest Diet Coke I've ever had. I think the settings were off. One day this month I found myself in Midtown (I work downtown), so I contacted a fellow burger-loving friend who recommended Five Guys. I had the Little Bacon Cheeseburger and was slightly disappointed that such a small burger ran me $7. I was impressed by the variety of condiments and toppings available at no extra charge, but I'm a fairly boring burger eater so just topped mine with onion and mustard. Overall, my burger had less flavor than Shake Shack, but thankfully shared that same delicious grizzled exterior that I adore. My one regret is that I didn' t steal my friend's fries, as I heard they are good. And yes, I'm one of those annoying girls who takes pleasure in stealing food off boys' plates. It's fun. read more

Before I left to live in New York, Five Guys opened up a place in Webster, NY, where I am originally from. My Mom and I went and it was pretty good I'm not so sure how it is doing now but I could imagine fairly successful. But I digress, this review is for the one midtown east. You have to enter this place knowing that you are not going to get much variety, they are literally burgers, fries, and hot dogs. It is a cliche' burger joint, but smothers your burger cravings with it's double patties. I came after the Noon lunch rush hour, around 2:00, and the place was still pretty slammed. It didn't take too long for my order and they have shelled nuts to keep you preoccupied while you wait. I will admit that the prices are a little too high, but the burgers are pretty much worth it. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the fries. For a place that takes such pride in where its fries come from, and claim to be the freshest, I was extremely disappointed. They were soggy, dull, and not worth the $3.20 something they were charging for them. If your looking to dine in, go in later in the day, the place is very small, I took mine back to the office. I'm sure you can find a nice bench to devour your meal nearby, and Central Park is not too far away if you wanted to eat it there. Overall I will be back when I'm craving a burger, but may skip the fries, or see if they can make them a little more crispy. Happy eating everyone! read more

Best excuse for an unhealthy, high calorie, juicy, finger lickin' good burger on the East Coast. I love Five Guys! My favorite part is the fact that you get to customize it to exactly the way you want it. Sauteed mushrooms as a standard? Yes please! My husband has been raving about Five Guys for months. He goes there a couple of times a month with co-workers and has been wanting to take me. Finally, I have MLK day off and he doesn't, so I meet him at Five Guys for lunch. We walk up to the counter and he explains the menu to me. I considered getting a regular cheeseburger, but then I saw the calorie count and decided on the "little cheeseburger." I added jalapenos, mayo, ketchup and to my burger, and we decided to share fries. After about a 5-7 minute wait, our burgers came. Tasty! The buns were nice and soft, the right amount of bread-to-burger ratio, and the toppings were well portioned too. It's not a thick burger, kind of thin, like In-N-Out. The fries are DH's favorite, but I didn't think they were the best. Just good, very potatoey, skin on fries. (Sidenote: For me, In-N-Out is 5 out of 5 on fast food burger ratings. It is the burger by which all fast food burgers should be judged. And their fries are my fave.) Overall, Five Guys is very good. It will be a fine In-N-Out replacement for me here in NYC. But then I come back to the fact that it's not In-N-Out (minus 1 point) and the fact that their fries are just OK (IMHO; minus 1 point). But I'm happy that there is one near us in Brooklyn Heights to satisfy my occasional burger cravings. I will definitely be going back. read more

I'm from California-- home of InNOut Burger.. the best burger joint in the world. My friend from home told me, "Five Guys is just as good as InNOut! You have to try it!" and so I did. I came to Five Guys on a snowy night and it was PACKED inside. There wasn't a single seat. 'Oh great,' I thought, 'I'm gonna have to eat this in the snow...' but it took nearly 20 minutes to receive my order after I placed it and by then the seats emptied up. Phew. I ordered a Little Hamburger with Ketchup, Mustard, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Lettuce, Tomato, and Pickle. Yah I like a lot of shit on it.. I also ordered fries. Total price: Nearly $10. (same thing at InNOut would have been $4 even.. just saying) Now although I devoured my burger in a mere 3 minutes, it wasn't all that amazing, I was just hungry. The mushrooms were gross (what, did they come from a can??), the bun fell apart, and they only gave me a single slice of lettuce and tomato. Oh and the fries were boring! I wish that Five Guys offered a smaller size too because I could feel all the grease swimming around in my intestines for hours. So sure, my meal was alright, but it wasn't as good as I was expecting and I'll probably never go back, but I do give them props for the decent selection of toppings (although incomparable to The Counter's selection). 3 stars. When I stepped inside, there was a HUGE line! I was really shocked! And everyone was eating peanuts! FOR FREE? WHOAH! Nice burger, but when I compare it to the best, the bun isn't brioche and the patty meat - whilst tasty - is a little firmer than those where the meat melts in your mouth. The customization of the burger toppings is great, and the fries are nice and potato-y in a rustic style. A solid lunch or solo dinner option but this isn't the king of burger joints. So I gave it a second chance because of its reputation as one of the best, and I still don't get it. It's not a bad burger per se, but definitely not good either. It's just ordinary. I haven't had this since it closed down at my local mall. I decided to come here when I saw someone holding the drink. Place was small and packed. Cashiers would like leave one person ordered. I had to stand in front awkwardly waiting. Everything is bought separate, like there's no combo. I got hamburger (almost $8). Toppings are free. It was good that I had to get another. Fries were like burnt, so I switched. It was a little better. They give a lot. Thats why I loved this place. Also free peanuts. read more

I really the burgers here! Firstly, the burgers taste really good here, the meat, the sauce, I don't know everything it's really well cooked. Moreover, all topping are free, so you can choose and make your burger however you want, with your favorites flavors. Finally, the price, this place is cheap, for the food, and for the area. Compared to almost any other burger place in the city, the ones served up here doesn't even rank. Like any former fat kid, I rank burgers on grease content, flavor, and texture. On all fronts, the burger was nothing remarkable. For softer buns and patties with more character, as well as a more pleasant waiting experience, Shake Shack wins. I think he only berated them because they were teenagers and he carried on even though the kids offered no resistance and did exactly what he asked them too. Just make sure you order everything in the smallest size here, as the portions are really big. i am the type of guy that will eat everything put in front of him. When i was younger my mom used to ask me if I wanted to be a member of the clean plate club. It still resonates today. After working the burger fries and soda, I was super full. it tasted great though and you can tell theses burgers are fresh. Nine simple words... You have got to be freakin' kidding me, right? How does this establishment get such notoriety? Surely, there's little debate amongst the general consensus for those willing participants that engage in unlimited toppings for FREE! Nevertheless, when your primary consumable seller is a "burger", one would expect the BURGER to be the highly acclaimed staple of the establishment. Sadly, that wasn't the case. Dropped by Five Guys for lunch yesterday afternoon. Nothing to mention about the decor other than the red checkered wall tile patterns and sturdy furniture. One note to patrons, the aromas stemming from the grill and deep fryer engulf the entire restaurant. The smell itself is enticing at first, but can become burdensome later on. The burger... Regular Burger - Toppings: Grilled Mushrooms, Grilled Onions, Lettuce & Tomato. Perhaps Five Guys should be better with their labeling, as a regular is a double patty and a little is a single patty, nevertheless, it was welcoming to see the generous portions and ingredient base used in the application. At first unwrapping, it was sad to see that the excess renderings from the tomato and grilled onions had made the burger bun soggy. Nevertheless, the burger bun was intact enough to consume. At first bite, it was disheartening to see that the double burger patties were nuked beyond comprehension. The well done temperature of the meat gave it a grainy texture, thus having almost non existent juices and flavor. Furthermore, the burger patty itself weighed in at around 2oz to 3oz! Can this even be considered a burger? Granted, the regular burger contains 2 patties thus being the equivalent of a 5oz to 6oz, but the separate cooking of each individual patty took away from the scrumptious nature of the burger (due to overcooking). Perhaps I'm old fashioned. Nevertheless, a burger SHOULD be larger than 3 oz. If one wanted a burger patty with a height equivalent of 1/4 inches, then McDonalds and Burger King would've been better establishments to visit. Nevertheless, the "burger" failed to deliver any levels of satiety as the dry, charcoal texture and lack of seasoning took away from what's so heralded. Almost forgot to mention... Unlimited peanuts to snack on while you wait! Nothing wrong with free snack food when the staff is nuking your burger. Never again! read more

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is the real deal! These guys never disappoint me. The burgers here are juicy and packed with great flavor. The fries here are amazing! Food - Pick a burger and choose your toppings! I once asked for jalapenos but they gave me some other hot ass peppers that was hotter than jalapenos. That shit straight up murdered my mouth. Drinks - Stick with soda for this place. Service - Fast food style so expect your orders to be ready quick unless you're ordering a lot. Verdict - Hit this place up fo sho! The incredibly long wait is offsetting to the point where you would reconsider going back. I spent 45 minutes on line and the problem is that the place is too small for the crowd that it attracts. The burger is good and the price is right but it's not that good that I spend my entire lunch time on a line and have to scarf it down at my desk. I have never left a review on here before, good or bad, but my experience today was entirely disappointing. I was really looking forward to having an amazing Five Guys burger after not having eaten there in awhile. I ordered over the phone, and whoever answered was extremely rude and impatient when I misheard something she said. As someone who works in customer service, I can understand having a bad day but this treatment was absolutely unnecessary. When I got to the restaurant, they hadn't even started the meal yet which is why I called ahead so I wouldn't have to wait in the first place! I ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers. 1 Double with nothing on it (because I HATE condiments) and the other was a single with lettuce, pickles, ketchup and mustard. I received a double with just ketchup and mustard and a single with lettuce, pickles and MAYO all of which I loathe!! I only had one short break from work so I couldn't go back and ask them to change it, leaving me with a burger I couldn't even enjoy. My experience today left me discouraged and hungry. I am very disappointed and will think twice before returning to Five Guys, ESPECIALLY this location. read more

I came here with very high expectations after fiending for it for about a week. Having lived in DC for 2 years, I developed an unhealthy addiction to this place and have been missing it ever since I moved back to NYC almost a year ago. The burgers at 5 Guys in DC are my favorite. Anywhere. Their New York counterparts are very good, but I can't say they're quite on par, which is sad given that the prices are about 30% higher. It was very good but the burger wasn't as savory and was significantly less juicy. Nonetheless, it is still one of the best burgers in the city and holds its own against Burger Joint and Island Burger, but not Shake Shack. If you only want to spend 5 bucks on lunch then go to McDonalds. If you want a great burger & fries then 5 Guys is the place to go. YUM! This was a great meal! The burgers were cooked very well - I can't say they beat In n Out, but they still tasted very juicy. My husband loved them. The fries, like everyone else mentioned, were amazing. We had the cajun fries and they were huge. I love the fact that you can get all the toppings you want at no extra cost - I was beginning to think that concept didn't exist in NYC.
