Let me just start by saying, I ordered a "little" burger all the way...which for me is jalapeños, onions, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese... Whoa! Heart attack waiting to happen. It has been a long while since I've been to a Five Guys. We were out on a Sunday evening and decided to get a bite to eat; and this was perfect since we were just across the street. I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, cheese, and mayo. My daughter and I split a regular-sized cajun fries. I'm thankful the lady who took our order reminded us that the regular-sized fries are actually large so we were able to order just one regular. OMG. It was exactly how I remembered it to be. I've been a faux-vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian for almost three years and in that time, I haven't had any red meat. I remember though, I used to love burgers. I had never been to Five Guys before yesterday so, walking in, I got that "new fast food restaurant" fear. You know the kind of anxiety when you nervously walk up to the register to place your order, yet you have no clue what you're doing and don't want to get something you'll regret - yeah, that fear! So I moseyed my way to the register, looked at the menu and settled on a regular cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms and onion, fries, and a drink (I think I did OK, right?!) Well, when I got home, my tummy thanked me! That burger was sooo good that I'm still thinking of it today! It was so tender and juicy. I was looking for a delicious cheeseburger that didn't require the need for carbs aka fluffy pillows of softness and decided to try Five Guys. They have two options independent of the need for bread which is wrapping the burger in lettuce or serving in a bowl. I chose the bowl option. I ordered the cheeseburger with an extra patty, extra cheese, mushrooms, sautéed green peppers, sautéed onions, pickles, tomatoes, and romaine lettuce. I wanted to mix A-1 sauce and mayo for a nice unique flavor to top with. I also ordered Cajun fries because I'm truly addicted to the spice combo. When I got the sandwich it was well made but they left off the lettuce. A little annoying but I didn't let that ruin my dinner. I noticed that the mushrooms, onions, and green peppers were on the bottom of the burgers but even when I relocated them to the top I realized that there wasn't much there. There was only one green pepper strip detected, two mushrooms, and not a lot of onion. I do realize that I ordered at the end of the evening so maybe they were running out. The bright side is that toppings like that are free but I would rather pay a bit per topping to ensure they load it up. With the absence of bread you have to go heavy on the veggies. The burgers, itself, were great! Perfectly cooked. My only gripe is that even though I ordered extra cheese they either didn't add it or they added it all together in one part of the burger instead of spreading it out. The top party had nothing on it and that was the perfect place to add the extra cheese. Delicious all the same, I guess it's just an aesthetics thing for me. The fries seasoning was on point, very much delicious. My big complaint there was that the fries were very soggy. They were hot but they were soggy. The brown bag they came in was super moist and the white plastic bag they used to carry the fries in was also very moist from the steam of the fries which trapped in more moisture so instead of a nice crunch I felt like I was eating mashed potatoes. The seasoning saved them. Overall this is one of my favorite places to eat. Their burgers are always amazing and if you can take the time to eat in the store their fries are amazing and plentiful. read more

First time at this location and what can I say, it's high. Walking in there's two entrances. It's very clean service is great. Ordered my food and did my order fast. I love their fries it's so good and so much included I ordered a burger and when we got home it was missing cheese in it which is was a bummer but still approved of the sandwich never had issues with my burger. Just have to start checking my orders to make sure it's correct because it sucks to go home and find out the sandwich was made wrong but it's my fault for not checking when I left the spots I don't have any other notes that their service was good and quick to get our food. Parking also sucks because you have to find street parking but otherwise then that I'm sure you can park in a lot near by and walk there. They also have really good, freshly fried Cajun fries in very generous portions. There's also unlimited peanuts for customers. Honestly, I'd pick this as the best burger joint in downtown Norfolk. It is light years betters than most fast food restaurants and nearby burger bars when talking about the patty by itself. I get my burger with the "all the way" condiment combination. I have been to their 21st street location numerous times, but am finally getting around to writing a review. My husband and I ordered their burger of course! I ordered mine with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, ketchup, and jalapeños-I will later regret the jalapeños. I also ordered a medium fry to split with my hubby. I wish I would have just ordered a small because the medium was WAY too big. In total, we paid about $24 (2 burgers, med fry, and a soft drink). The burger itself is so amazing. The ground beef is extremely fresh and the fries are made from hand cut potatoes. We will definitely be back. The service was quick and the food tasted delicious. Every time I come here I get the bacon cheeseburger all the way and I end up scarfing everything down so fast that I always get hiccups by the end of it. The cajun fries are must haves and the soda fountain offers you a myriad of drinks to help wash everything down. This Five Guys is also spotless because there is always someone cleaning. Everyone was really nice and went out of their way to get my order fixed quickly so I could get back. Now the one thing I really like at Five Guys are the Cajun Fries, but I never order them just because even a small order is more than I can eat. Well they asked me how I like the fries and I said the cajun are great! Well they got me out in record time so I would not be late and when I get to the office they had placed a small order of Fries in my bag. I know this is just a small gesture for the mistake that was made, but it goes a long way to a faithful customer. Just opened here in Norfolk! Finally I get to try what people are talking about here on the East Coast. I'm a Cali guy where In and Out dominates. In and Out will always have a place in my heart, but I'm here to tell you that Five Guys is as good as it gets for burgers here in Virginia! Portions? Ginormous. Burgers too big for their own good spilling over. Each bite is a mess, but a tasty one! They have much more toppings than an In and Out including extras that you can add (eg hot sauce etc). They have "regular" burgers and "little" ones for the calorie counters. Their fries portions are huge. 2 people can probably share a small if they are already getting burgers. However, for anyone with peanut allergies, this is NOT the place for you. They fry everything in peanut oil and they also serve free peanuts while you wait. They take orders online so you don't have to wait! Parking is in the 201 twentyone apartment building but also is available across the street. The one thing that would really make them good above and beyond is to have milkshakes! At In and Out that is really the cherry on top. read more

We stopped in here for lunch last week and had a great little meal. It was raining outside and we ended up parking in the parking garage at the other end of the building as their was nothing available on the street. Parking is there is free for up to 2 hours, after that you take a chance on getting towed. There were 3 of us on this trip and I went with a Small Bacon Cheeseburger and fries. It only took a few minutes for them to call our number and as always I opened the foil wrapper to find a steaming burger ready to be consumed by the king of bacon cheeseburgers, ME! Was a bit shocked at having to spend $15.62 for a single patty burger and small fry. When I got the burger it had hot sauce instead of A1, they remade it but put 3x the normal amount of mustard and no A1. Staff was friendly and accommodating about the situation. I just ended up getting a small cup of A1 to add myself and dabbed some mustard off w a napkin instead of having it remade a second time. So should any of you read in the pilot about the first Norfolk man to receive a duodecuple bypass, it DOES NOT mean that I, er the patient are any different... Besides having a V12 under my ribcage, yeah baby wooooo boogity!! GET SOME. So totally unrelated, I really enjoy 5 Guys burgers. I would get into a debate about how I've had hamburgers from across the land made from various Angus/Grass-Fed/Kobe/marbled chuck meats topped with anything from Riesling soaked onions to Foie Gras, but I don't have to. This isn't that type of food. You can ask for over a dozen toppings stacked on, but I still wouldn't label it as a fancy burger. I think the simplicity of it is what makes it so good. The fries are excellent and made for sharing. Of course I'll have them Cajun style, does the pope shit in the woods!? They aren't the thin neon yellowish super-crispy fries that you would get at McDonald's or Wendy's and that's cool if you are into that, but the fries at 5 guys aren't an afterthought on the menu, they are just as good as the burger. Kind of a deli cut freshness to them. And that's it. If you have come looking for a milkshake you won't find one. Coca Cola products are served and peanuts are free. They serve hotdogs and something called a Veggie Sandwich, but you can't expect those to be any good really, its not their thing. I mean, you wouldn't ask your veterinarian to perform cheap under the table bypass surgery on a human would you? Heck no! Even if they pretended it was a large dog who happened to have documented angina... They don't perform those procedures! and anyone entertaining the idea would probably be asked to find a new vet... Whatever they do... it works. The burgers are amazing and the fresh cut french fries are delicious (especially drenched in malt vinegar and sprinkled with salt!). It's that good kind of greasy food that you crave, but don't feel completely terrible after eating. They definitely put other fast food joints to shame. The portion of food is insane. Burgers are big and even the small fry is a giant helping. The food here is always made right there in front of you. You need not worry about eating a burger that has been sitting there for an hour. The place is always clean and the staff here and at practically all of the locations are friendly. And free peanuts! My digestion is usually okay if I splurge on a burger once a week. But not with Five Guys' bread. Even the mediocre burger chains in California offer some kind of option, like a lettuce wrap (but a burger does not taste the same without bread, trust me). Colorado's Larkburger offers a gluten-free bun. If you offered such an option Five Guys, you would be my favorite burger and fries chain, hands-down.
