I went the opening week and stood in line etc. It wasn't worth it in my opinion. My lasting impression? Soggy, soggy, soggy. There's always comparisons to In N Out and here's another one-In N Out wins hands down. Why? Cause the burger at Five Guys has no flavor. Sure they have fresh ingredients and lotsa options, but the bread was mushy and there wasn't any flavor to the patty. Free peanuts at a burger joint? Odd yet fun! Came here for lunch and boy does it get packed. We had to sit outside but that is OK because it was a nice day. So the menu is really short and simple which I really like- they have burgers, fries, hot dogs, a veggie thing and a grilled cheese. So I ordered a little cheeseburger with everything. Beware a "little cheeseburger" is not little at all- it just means it has one hamburger patty- which was enough for me! The regular cheeseburger comes with TWO patty's- what the heck? That is like a cholesterol overload. I like how the toppings are included in the price of the cheeseburger- no extra charge for mushrooms, etc. So the cheeseburger was packed with juicy yumminess and was very flavorful, I was impressed. Atmosphere/Service - Buddies and I wait in line for 20 minutes to order the food. We wait another 30 minutes to actually get our food (50 minutes!!) The AC was broken and the place was a good 5 degrees hotter inside than it was outside. I surmise it broke cause the door was constantly open for the line to get through. Even if one were fortunate enough to find a table inside, one wouldn't enjoy having the meal inside a sauna. We took our food to the El Pollo Loco across the lot. The food is good, but not worth all this nonsense. My advice is to wait for the hype to settle down and the lines and the wait to shorten. I'm sure more and more 5G's are opening up in SoCal so it shouldn't be too long for it to happen. The burger and fries are good, but definitely not in the top 5 burgers in SoCal. Figured I should try this since there was a lot of hype about it. They were definitely busy but one interesting feature is how they give you peanuts while you wait in line/ for your food. As for the burgers, they were definitely good in that dirty, greasy, downright gluttonous kind of way. Yes, the buns are a bit mushy, but that is the point. These are the kinds of burgers you would get at a truck stop. I don't know why people are comparing it to In-n-Out because I feel like they are two completely different styles of restaurants/burgers. If you want that perfectly put together burger--go to In-n-Out. The fries were realllly good and I liked that they were fried in Peanut Oil. Really? Only 3.5 stars?? I thought this place was pretty good. Complimentary peanuts available while you wait to order. Service was good. Love all the topping options you can get for free. Damn you Yelp and you're insurmountable power! I first found out about Five Guys (Carson location) randomly...starving, stoned, and tired, we walked in. Five Guys in my mouth, blew my mind. I mean, the experience blew my mind. Needless to say, I used my hyping abilities to build up this place and once I found out about this location (Orange), people were curious. The problem: Yelp. Yelp is the ultimate "hype" man and Yelp has just a couple more friends than I do. We wait in line for 20 minutes in the blistering heat, then wait inside a sauna of smoke and five...hundred fat guys body heat for another 30 minutes waiting for our order. Even the delicious peanuts couldn't redeem this place. The experience this time...unpleasant. Conclusion: In-N-Out is still king, but Five Guys every once in a while to change things up, isn't a bad idea. Advice: Wait 3-4 months for the hype to die down. I came here because of the hype so I had high expectations. My goal was to see if this place was better than 1. Shake Shack in NYC and 2. In-n-Out. Epic fail. Menu was simple enough: Burgers and Fries but no ice cream shakes. Out of 5 stars, I will begin to delete the stars due to the following: -1: meat was dry, cooked extremely well done -1: cheese was cold and not melted -1: came wrapped in an aluminum foil and caused the burger to be soggy and fell apart while I was eating it. Five Guys is the best fast food burger on the planet. The standard burger has two patties and you get to choose from a plethora of toppings. The little burger, for the health conscious among us, is only one patty. The Cajun fries are totally addictive, and you only need to get the regular size because they'll fill half of your bag with fries no matter what size you order. Are you hungry while you wait? No problem! Enjoy free peanuts! Take as many as you want! You won't have to wait long, because service is generally fast, even when the line is out the door. I had heard the bravado and blustering that was blowing from the East Coast about this establishment giving In-N-Out a run for its money and when a train stopped me in its lot I decided to give it a try. I can safely say that it was much ado about nothing.. I was put off almost the moment I stepped into the store. They had numerous employees, yet only one person working the register. My annoyance with the wait was quickly replaced by my annoyance with my surroundings. If I wanted to dodge piles of crap and peanut shells I would have joined the circus -- my advice, get a broom. Before ever getting to taste the food I was already thinking that In-N-Out had a leg up. I could have forgiven all of the above if the food was successful in making me forget all that was around me -- it didn't. Before I could take my first bite of the burger the bun was falling apart, toppings were all over the place and my mood was only worsening. I should caveat this review by saying that I don't think the hallmark of good food is that you require a shower after eating it, that's reserved for good sex. Once I popped a few Luvox to quell the OCD breakout I was in the midst of I was able to taste the burger. It was of decent quality and taste, but I'll stick with In-N-Out when I want a decent burger at a reasonable price thank you. I'm giving these guys five stars because they freaking deserve it. The overwhelming amounts of orders they are receiving online and over the phone added to the walk-ins during this safer at home crap is just ridiculous. They need more help, the wait for a burger and fries was 20 plus minutes. No one in that store was nice to the employees, every single person ahead of us complained, one lady wanted feee fries, someone else complained that they wanted more fries so the guy handling the food call outs gave it to them. How about thanking them for working so your lazy ass can get take out! Yes our burgers were pretty rough looking and fell apart and our large fry wasn't as large as it normally is, it's not going to be perfect with the rate of hustle they are forced to work at - it still tasted great and we will be back. On August 1, I visited this Five Guys for the first time. I was curious to see how the Five Guys' burger joint compared to others. I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and a small fries and was taken back by the cost of just these two items. My total came to $10.64! A double burger and fries at any fast food establishment is way below this amount. Five Guys must be the most expensive fast food restaurant around! Most places you can get a double burger, fries, and a soft drink for around $7 - $8. The $10.64 amount I paid did not even come with a drink! As far as the size of the burger, I would compare it to the same size that most fast food establishment portions their sizes. The fries were unique and different...I will give them that, but at $2.99 for just a small, who has ever heard of such a ridiculous price? The burger tasted okay...I was not impressed. In "N" Out burgers taste way better. I thought the burger tasted more on the greasy side. The entire time I was waiting for my number to be called, I kept thinking to myself, why on earth is this place out to charge people so much for their product? Never the less, I thought I might give Five Guys a chance and see what they had to offer, but I was not impressed and very sorry I even tried it out. The biggest problem with this place is the hype. I think it MAY have earned a solid 3 stars if I wasn't expecting the 2nd coming of In-N-Out or if the walls weren't covered with framed magazines articles singing its high praises. We came to Five Guys because we read online that there's a veggie sandwich (as we don't eat meat). However, my cursory online searching failed to mentioned that it literally is a "veggie sandwich". For whatever reason, I was expecting it to be like Red Robin or The Counter where there is the actual veggie patty option. However, the veggie sandwich is the bun with all the topping you would like between the bun. As such, it's a good idea to load it up with grilled mushroom, lettuce, onion, and what not because otherwise, it'll be one barren sandwich. It tasted fine although I probably wouldn't go back as it is literally a veggie sandwich. Further, our order took a considerable period of time which I couldn't understand since there was really no cooking involved with our sandwiches due to the lack of meat. The fries are all-natural and come either plain or cajun, which is merely the addition of seasoning salt. I generally do like all natural fries as they aren't crisp enough for me but if this isn't an objection of yours, then you'll like these just fine. They also offer AYCE salted peanuts in the shell that you can scoop out of big boxes located all around. As such, there are shells and skins all over the floor from messy patrons. There are also signs on the boxes and doors that warn of nut allergies and to refrain from removing said peanuts from the premises. Indeed, patrons are not allowed to consume peanuts outside in the patio because neighborhood kids may be exposed to the peanuts that are allergic to nuts. My fiance, who had the regular meaty hamburger a while ago said that he prefer In and Out's despite the smaller variety of toppings available. I think this place is like a cross between Jerry's Woodfired Dogs and In and Out, though I'm not sure if it assumed the more successful aspects of both. read more

I went to this place wanting to try a new burger, without comparing it to any other place, all the while letting Five Guys show me what they do. This particular location was great. The guy at the counter noticed we were new and offered to explain the menu to us. He was very helpful and the place was very clean and inviting. I liked the list of different toppings. I got my burger and it was huge and overflowing. Most of it was very good, I just felt like the meat didn't stand out at all. I enjoy my burger patties meaty and juicy, but this one was just a mouth full of flavorless grease. The toppings are what made my burger stand out. I've reviewed the Cerritos location, and pretty much all of it applies here in Orange as well. I ended up going to the one on Katella the day after I went to the one in Cerritos though (don't judge), so I'll put a few Orange-specific details that stood out here: - The door that seems like it would be the "front" door- the one that faces the main parking lot and patio seating area- is actually a side door. The front door is the one facing Chase. If you're a first timer you might be surprised to walk in and find that the line is actually out the door on the other side. Beware! - The bacon here was done SO perfectly. Super crispy and not fatty (well, for bacon). Thumbs up! - This might be the most efficiently-run location that I've visited, so even if that line is out the door and the dining room is packed you'll probably get your food quicker than you expected. read more

I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. Typically the burgers come with 2 patties and cheese, and the toppings are all FREE. no extra charge. As a fan of anything mushroom, I had to indulge, and I wished that I had gotten the bacon cheeseburger, which was the same price (FREE bacon!) at $4.99. So when it came it was wrapped in foil, and the burger looked a little smushed, bun and all... but when I took a bite... That was a pretty damn good burger. I mean.. INO looks more appealing presentation-wise, but as the saying goes, you cannot judge a book by its cover. Or burger. Or...whatever. The fries were good and thick... I'm a fan of bigger fries. Red Robin knows how to do it. Imperial Burger knows. INO needs to catch on. Plus I had a little cajun spice on the side, and Malt Vinegar. So apparently this is an East Coast thing? I was at work, decided to check their web site and found out that they accept online orders, so I ordered my lunch online for pickup in a couple hours. Reading through their site, I found out that they only cook their burgers well done. Well done to me is overdone. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, with hot sauce, grilled onions, and extra mushrooms. I also ordered some cajun fries. The burger was alright. The cheese was, indeed, melted. However, the bun was soggy. The fries were disappointing. I got a veggie burger, no patty, just all the vegetables they offer. The Cajun Fries were really good. It was really dirty inside though. Everyone threw their peanut shells all over the place. It seemed like none of the workers wiped down the tables. We had to clean our own table and we waited so long that we were too hungry to keep on cleaning so we ate with the previous customers trash beside our food. More expensive than In N Out. I'm sure Five Guys knew what they were competing against when they expanded to the West Coast. I don't think Five Guys is necessarily better, and I don't get why people rave about their fries when it was mediocre to me. BUT! it is a sit down place, it's fun to add the toppings you want. Being curious about Five Guys after my brother mentioned it a couple of times, we went to 5 Guys here. I could never expect the see a load of peanuts. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat a packful of them because of my braces. I was surprised of all of the 'toppings' you can get for the burger. Had nearly nothing on the hamburger (no pickles, no onions, no sauce), thought it was okay at best. Don't take this as a knock against this place, because the service is friendly and the food is very decent. But "better than In-N-Out"? Not quite. First of all, In-N-Out has a distinct taste. You can blindfold me and I would be able to pick out In-N-Out burgers from all others. However, I've eaten at Red Robin for the past couple of weeks...because I'm at the mercy of where my friends want to go with their "energetic," kids :) and I see these as one and the same. The burgers at Red Robin, Ruby Tuesday's are good and very similar to FGB&F. Is it worth standing outside in line for 30-60 minutes?....NO WAY!! Basic shoe string fries are a weak point at In-N-Out, and here at FGB&F the cajun fries may be better, but if you ramp up with Animal style fries at In-N-Out, that puts it in my mind above FGB&F. Maybe when more stores open up and the waiting line time goes down from ludicrous to slightly long but earth level, I may venture again, but for now I'm sticking with my traditional So Cal fave! Quicker, better taste (in my opinion), and cheaper...what else can I say? 3.5 stars for what this place is...decent and may be pretty good...and I really do wish them success! read more

Friend: "Let's do Five Guys tomorrow." I'm really not much of a fast food foodie, but when someone extends an invitation to do five guys, who am I to refuse? So I head up to Orange, endure the out-the-door line, and then fight the crowds to secure a table that is pushed up against a wall of boxed potatoes and peanut oil (which, interestingly enough, is all a part of the 'ambience'). After a moderate wait, I am presented with a cheeseburger, which I opted to have "all the way" sans mayo (going all the way with Five Guys gets you mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, pickles, grilled onions, and mushrooms; other optional toppings include jalapenos, BBQ sauce, A1, and relish, among others). Having the additional toppings definitely sets Five Guys apart from other fast food chains, but that isn't to say that I would prefer this over a burger from a decent sit-down place (say, Houston's or Yard House). Though everyone's doing it, it seems futile to compare this establishment to In-n-Out, because to me, fast food is a stop, not a destination. Road trip to Vegas? Sure, grab a double double for a quick meal. Driving through Orange and too lazy to cook tonight? Go ahead and do Five Guys - and don't forget the Cajun fries. read more

I went here on a Friday or Saturday night with a friend because we wanted to try something new and there was some hype with this place. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED. I was grossed out at how dirty the floor was with the peanut shells everywhere as well as random boxes being stacked. I assume it was decoration. I also was disappointed in their ketchup dispensers. I went to order and was surprised at how expensive it was for a burger and fries. I got my food and was just straight up sad that I didn't go in n out or any other place. I kept eating my food and realized that I could have made the same thing better at home and for cheaper. I got their cajun fries and realized that they just put lawry's seasoning salt and served me some crap in a cup. The whole time my friend and I just kept talking about how the food sucked and we should have picked somewhere else. That is the only thing we talked about over our dinner. I don't get how people like this place at all. you have to wait unusually long for you food and its not even that good of quality. I will not come here again. read more

Like everyone else I came here to see if it's better than in n out. Wrong! We came Sunday lunch and the lines were super long. It didn't take too long but we waited at least 20min for our order. I got the burger all the way and Cajun fries. The buns were soggy since it was wrap in foil. The meat was crumbly and too well done. With all the toppings I got it tasted bland for some reason. The fries was good but it's nothing compared to in and out. It's good concept for custom fast food burger though. read more
