I had high hopes for this spot but it just did not hit the mark. The interior has a nice vibe to it and the workers were very nice, but the food itself was a let down. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, I was disappointed to find it was not a patty but instead 2 tenders in between the buns. When that is done it makes it a more challenging bite as you're strategically holding the sandwich to avoid the second tender from slipping out. On top of that the tenders were so overcooked they had become stringy which is not a pleasant bite. Spicy wise it was a 2/10, was there spicy, yes, but it was faint. The flavor itself I also found lacking. Even with the coleslaw there was something missing flavor wise. Thankfully I ordered a few side sauces, that helped with both the flavor and the dryness. After being so hyped up over this place this experience does not inspire me to make a return visit.

Well, to my surprise, this was pretty good! Located in a strip mall, the Holdaak sign can be spotted while driving by. We ordered the holdaak spicy chicken sandwich combo, which came with a side of fries and slaw, and the Seoul spicy chicken sandwich, which is supposed to be a yangyeom flavor (Korean sweet and spicy). Both chicken pieces were sizable and were not dry. The individual smothering of sauces also add some flavor and moisture. Fair warning that it's messy as the chicken, slaw, and sauce drip. Between the Holdaak spicy and the Seoul spicy, we preferred the Holdaak spicy.

Holdaak!! On a hunt for a great chicken sandwich. Been craving a good one after howling rays. This place is not the best but it's pretty good. Not too dry. Good flavor. Sauces are great. But they charge extra fyi. Loved their honey mustard. Good buns. Sandwich didn't get soggy. I like their daikon slaw. Best part of this place they got killer deals. 15 for both is not bad at all.

Good! My sister and I are always in the area yet have never had a chance to try this place out until now. We're really glad with the menu options and found the prices to be pretty reasonable. Everything looked really good and they offer a lot of different flavors and seasonings which other places don't. - * #4 Combo (5 Strips): 8/10 - 'spicy' flavor wasn't spicy at all but fries were good - * Popcorn Chicken: 8/10 - good batter but no seasoning so quite bland They're located in the Tustin Square plaza which can get crowded at peak times so parking might be different. The interior is nice and they have plenty of tables to sit at. Be sure to stop by if you guys are ever in the area!

Randomly stumbled upon this fried chicken joint since it was conveniently next to Bobateaque while we were checking out an event there. We decided to get Holdaak after seeing other customers get it while we were at Bobateaque. The food looked amazing so we had to try. I got the Holdaak Spicy Chicken Sandwich combo which comes with crinkle cut fries and a soft drink. Since it was my first time, I knew I had to try the dish with their name in it. The combo came out to about $12-$13 which is honestly a deal for quality food. They're also known for their comeback sauce which I'm glad the meal comes with. The food was piping hot when we got it. The fries were obviously fresh out of the fryer because they were perfectly crisp and you can see the steam coming out. The comeback sauce was sweet and tangy and it was perfect in combatting the spices on the fries. The Holdaak spicy chicken was the right amount of heat! I probably could've handled more spice but it was really good. I loved the Korean twist on this American dish with the daikon slaw in the sandwich. It was perfect amount of acidity that was needed to combat the spice. The bun was also so round and soft looking. It was literally perfect. I was floored by the food here and would definitely come again if I'm in the area. Super solid food!

First timer here and we wanted a quick meal that was pretty close by. We saw this place when we had dinner nearby and wanted to check it out. We ordered their combo deals online before heading over. They were extremely quick we came within 15 mins and our order was already waiting for us. When we took the first bite both my husband and I were amazed by how delicious the batter was on the chicken. It was super crispy yet not too dry. The fries were also amazing, alot of crinkle fries are always a miss but theyre so good here! Not pictures but i got the hot elote salad and that was surprisingly good. It was tangy and spicy from the takis on it. We would definitely come back to try the other items on their menu like their tenders!

When you order fries it comes in a brown bag. Even if you get it to dine in. Terrible.

I usually done write bad reviews but what was this terrible experience. Yeah the food was alright except for the fries. They gave us plain fries and I asked if the fries were meant to be plain when we ordered Cajun fries. Turns out, you have to shake the Cajun powder into the fries yourself. They didn't even mention it to me when I got the food. The popcorn chicken and fries came as if it was a to go packaging like they don't want you to eat at the restaurant. I wouldn't mind this but collectively for Cajun fries, popcorn chicken and a drink. It came out to 19 dollars. Don't come here. This place is a horrible experience with mediocre food at best and priced way too high.

Spicy Sando extra pickles. side of "Cajun" (?) fries
    John S.

Not sure what a "Hold-aak" is but I know what it's not...my fav chicken Sando. I got the spicy sandwich and it was good but not great. A bit sloppy and coleslaw overwhelmed the chicken which was a bit dry and lacked a flavor pop. Cajun fries came plain but when I inquired with the register guy he gave me a small spice container to sprinkle on. Again, no flavor pop and needed some salt vs just paprika. Too many other places to come back here. Sorry, I'll "Hold"-baak. "Come-back" sauce - sorry not likely.

You can tell this place has a strong base of regulars too, I saw a mix of friend groups and families casually walking in like it's their go-to spot. We ordered the cold noodles combo with jokbal (pork hock) for $30.95. Portion wise, it's SOLID for two people. The cold noodles were refreshing and really hit the spot, especially if you like that clean, slightly tangy flavor. The jokbal was very decent. Not bad, but if you've had it in Korea, you'll notice it doesn't quite hit the same level still totally "usable," just not standout. Value, this is where they win. We got full off just one combo, which is rare these days. Plus, all the usual Korean side dishes are complimentary, and they also served a warm bone broth at no extra cost. I've honestly never had that offered like this before, and it made the whole meal feel extra comforting and homey. Small detail, but I also appreciated that the table was already fully set up with bowls, utensils, and water which makes everything efficient. Overall, really solid experience. It actually gave me a bit of that Seoul nostalgia, which is hard to replicate. Definitely coming back to try more dishes.

(Pretty sure it's just the owner) who was very friendly, but the other staff had a huge attitude, the girl who dropped off our side dishes dug her hands into the dishes to grab two at a time which was super unsanitary. She threw the last side dish on our table while she was walking away too. I wanted to be optimistic about the food even though the staff gave a terrible first impression. We ordered two soups. They were both super bland. My partner and I kept debating whether or not to ask for more salt because of the lack of seasoning in both of our meals. Even the side dishes were lacking flavor and looked like they were sitting out for a long time. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kind lady (probably owner) of the restaurant. Everything else was a huge let down. I wanted to like the food here because there's a lot of good Korean restaurants in Irvine, and this could've been one of them but sadly it's not worth coming back.

When you go in, we had a basically private room for the party, which is pretty cool! But when you go in, it's freezing cold. It's like the AC was blasting so hard I was in a freezer. My toes literally felt frozen. It was so uncomfortable.!!! Then the amount of people walking around inside to help was decent, but the time in between getting meat was a little longer than I expected. But the meats were terrible. There was like no quality no taste and some more like Chewy or like even really tough. The kicker was that though there were four separate tables, they charged us all the same price. I understand that if everyone at your table needs to get the same menu. But they really should've told us that it's the whole room and not just by table and if it was the whole room, then they should've also let us know that one table got the premium so we might as well get premium at we're getting charged for it anyways. So not only was the food bad, the service was ok best. But not informing customers was just a kicker. I wouldn't wanna come back. I'm not sure. I'd even try another Gen's again.
