So, I tried this place last night. Everyone is comparing their burgers to In-N-Out. I can say it's better than In-N-Out. Because In-N-Out is different than 5 Guys. In-N-Out is more a fast food like McD, BurgerKing, Carl's, etc... 5 Guys is more of a sit down place. High end fast food, low end version of The Counter. I had the bacon Cheeseburger with tomatoes, grilled onions, jalapenos, mushrooms, and lettuces; with a Large Cajun style fries. According my friend, he said they need RANCH for the fries. Sadly, they didn't have ranch... only ketchup. I would definitely go back since there's different combination of burgers you can try with all the free toppings. read more

I have eaten at Five Guys several times. I have been to locations in Dallas, Washington DC, Cerritos and Orange. While I's say the burgers are good. I still think that In-n-Out is better. I do like the large number of toppings to choose from. The have things like Fresh Jalapenos, Mushrooms, Grilled onions, Tomato, Lettuce, Mustard, Mayo, Ketchup, A1 etc. With so many toppings you can customize your burger just to your liking. However, I like to choose about 4 or fewer, because adding too many toppings can be too much. I like a good combination of condiments in each bite. Choosing too many can get too messy and sometimes you don't get an equal consistent taste throughout your burger. I do like their Cajun Fries. Even the small order of fries is more than enough for one person. They always fill up the small container and put in an additional scoop in the bag. I'd say that the burgers are better than other fast food joints, but as I said earlier I still prefer In-n-Out. Note that their regular burgers are actually doubles and the little burger is a single patty. So if you don't eat a lot then the little burger is more than sufficient. read more

I heard all the buzz about Five Guys being like In-N-out, but let me tell you, In-N-Out is way better in food, friendliness, and service. There is really no comparison. I give to Five guys, they have more topping choices and have Bacon, which I do love. But the actual burger itself wasn't that good, just average. Also my burger wasn't made correctly, I asked for Mustard and no Mayo, but instead I got Mayo with no mustard. At In-N-Out they always repeat your order to ensure there is no mix-up. The atmosphere is okay, one part I thought was a little annoying was the person placing your order shouts to the cooks behind him/her to put burgers on the grill after placing your order, which I didn't like much, but thats how they work. It seems like there's a huge war in the fast food burger community between five guys and innout. I don't really like confrontations, but I will have to pick innout way over five guys. Five guys isn't terrible by any means, but the style, taste, and price of their burgers are all subpar when compared to innout, imo. Here is my assessment: Burgers: + high quality meat + large variety of free toppings + bacon available - bun is not toasted or grilled - no special sauce - kind of expensive Fries: + fresh cut fries + cajun or regular fries - fries are squishy, not crisp Overall, the lack of not grilling the bun and good sauces for the burger make the burger much less appealing and tasty. I had heard that their fries were way better than innout fries, but they're not crisp at all! I came twice because I thought maybe the first time was a fluke, but the second try was equally squishy. With a meal costing about twice as much as innout ($10 vs $5), it's unlikely that I would return as long as innout is around. read more

Don't get me wrong. this place has really great burgers. However, I'm not sure what the fuss is about. I had a bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms and onions and it was delicious. The fries were also pretty delicious as well. However, I'm not sure what all the hype was about. I mean, I get that it's suppose to rival in 'n out, but honestly, I believe they can't be compared. I came here after a friend recommended this place. The peanuts were a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed eating them as I waited! When actually ordering, you realize how expensive these burgers are. It's pricy...maybe overpriced. But there are always much more 'budget' places if it's too much. I'm not going to preach about "you get what you pay for", since I can neither defend nor oppose that. But if it's too much, going somewhere else might be a better idea. For the burgers, you get lots of options. There are many different "toppings" you can add onto the burger, including a variety of sauces and vegetables. That definitely adds to the rating. There's no limit and you can even get something on the side if you want to. The fries are amazing! Similar to Del Taco's macho fries, they do the fries in a soda cup. For the price you pay, you definitely get a lot of fries. I don't remember specifically, but the large fries were more than enough (in fact, I had to bring mine home cause the burger filled me up!). Cajun fries are definitely recommended, but if you don't feel like it, their regular seasoned fries are equally amazing. The burgers are served in aluminum foil, which is a plus, for me at least. I don't like using my hands too much (in case I need to reach for my wallet or phone), so I usually use whatever the burger comes in. The paper wrappers at In N Out are all right, but the foil really stands out. The juice doesn't drip through the foil like paper does, so I really like having the foil. They're pretty kind too. I ordered cajun fries but got regular fries instead. I asked them about it and they immediately got me my order of Cajun fries. I'm sure it's a regular policy for food, but they let me keep the regular fries too. Overall, good place, good atmosphere, highly recommended! read more

I don't understand the constant comparison between Five Guys and In-N-Out. Five Guys' burgers are a good dollar more than In-N-Out burgers and the quality of the meats is not the same. In-N-Out has terrific low end burgers. Five Guys burgers are closer to Fuddruckers and The Counter in quality. The Burgers here are juicy and greasy with terrific texture. The toppings are varied and fitting. However, the meat is not seasoned well and some bites of the burgers taste bland. Their burgers can really use some sauces other than mayo and mustard (for example, In-N-Out puts thousand island dressing on their burgers). The fries I had were undercooked and drenched in grease. This maybe because the restaurant was busy and the staff had no time to adequately prep the fries. The Cajun seasoning on the fries is good, but is of course ruined by the grease drenching through two paper bags. In sum, this place has good, not great, burgers and has a lot of room to improve. read more

You know how when you have a date and you, the guy, naturally ask "where do you wanna eat?" It seems like most girls favorite restaurant is "I don't know, anywhere." I had a date once, unfortunately for me she loved Five Guys. This place is a bit overhyped, their burgers are mediocre and overly greasy. Everybody told me that 5 Guys was better than In-N-Out. Now this, I had to see... To be honest, the burgers here aren't as good as people rave about. Compared to In-N-Out's meticulously made burgers, these ones here are a sloppy mess. There's nothing outstanding or unique about the taste either. The real winner at 5 Guys is their french fries. And no, to all you dummies, the fries are not burnt but instead cooked in peanut oil. Do you really think that 5 Guys would serve everybody burnt fries and not do anything about it, and then continue to train everybody else to make and serve burnt fries? You know the fries here are legit when they also serve them with vinegar. If I could build myself the perfect meal, I would much rather buy a burger from In-N-Out, but pair it with the fries from 5 Guys. read more

Sorry but I wasn't a big Fan of this place. In & Out is a lot better. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries. I asked for extra crispy fries and it was still soggy. The cheeseburger was very bland / no flavor. I was indeed excited about coming here but was so thrilled about it now. You should've seen me. I was like a little kid ordering. I've heard some people say that Five Guys is better than In N Out. It is not. I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger and split cajun fries with a friend. We ordered the large size, not realizing how much we were going to get. The regular order is enough to split. They forgot the bacon on my burger, but gave me a side of some when I told them. The burger patty itself didn't stand out so it helped that I added the bacon, grilled mushrooms, and grilled onions. While I would go back, I don't crave a Five Guys burger like I do In N Out. read more

My burger was way over cooked unsalted and lacked flavor. The Cajun fries are nothing more Lowery salt mixed with cayenne pepper.the only thing i liked was the Sprite Zero at the fountains. My girlfriend felt the same way. Honestly with all the hype and the line out the door-this place is way too overated. OK since when has taking your family of four for hamburger, fries and coke cost $44.00...! I was shocked when I learned our bill would be $44.00 and to top it off with, the food was bland. In N Out Burgers are WAY WAY better then this place and I could've saved 15 bucks too. What a rip off. Ok, so I've heard a LOT about this chain from the East coast that's (allegedly) going to replace In N Out, blah blah blah, who cares. Honestly, I really tried hard to hate this place; but when it comes to it, Five Guys makes a really good burger. I opted for the Little Bacon Cheeseburger, a single patty, with everything on it. If I only paid attention to the extra condiments like jalepeños and hot sauce, it could have been something even more spicy delicious. The burger was excellent. The beef tasted better than In N Out, but what doesn't if you have bacon and cheese? I forgot to mention the grilled onions and mushrooms but oh well. The fries were also really good, hot and soft center, crispy on the outside steak fries and nicely seasoned. Today was my lucky day, because after they filled the cup, they poured a little extra in my bag for good measure. It did take a bit longer than I would have liked for my order and it wasn't crowded. Fortunately there's those cases of peanuts to snack on. The food here was very good for my first time and I'm looking toward to coming back. The one downside of this location is that there's only a one person his and hers bathroom. read more

Good burgers at fair prices. About on par with In-N-Out and Fatburger. PROS: - Free peanuts - Excellent toppings. Not only is the selection great (choices include bell peppers, A-1 sauce, grilled mushrooms, and hot sauce), but the toppings themselves are good. - The beef patties are nice and thick. - Fries are way better than the starchy crap served at INO. - Malt vinegar for your fries. - Both Coke Zero and Cherry Coke in the self-serve fountain. CONS: - No drive-through. - No milkshakes. - The meat isn't as flavorful as INO or Fatburger. - All the tile and flat surfaces make for a very loud atmosphere. Add in the blaring music and the folks on the mike shouting out numbers and it's not that easy to hold a conversation. read more

After hearing all the buzz and having been an In N Out fan for all my life, I finally had a chance to drop by and check this place out for myself. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries. I love the fact they offer grilled mushrooms as a condiment. Free roasted peanuts are out across from the fountain drinks so you can snack while you wait for your food. The burger was outstanding. Don't go there expecting it to taste like In N Out; they have their own flavor. My girlfriend loved her burger and became an instant fan. The fries are also good. They're the fat fries variety and cooked in peanut oil so they are quite filling. Will try Cajun style next time. My only complaint: they need to serve milk shakes! read more

I had an internal conflict for a good 20 minutes trying to decide which is better, Five Guys or In-n-Out... it kills me, it really feels like pulling teeth, it should not be this difficult or painful for a goddamn fast food burger! The beauty and business model of In-n-Out is it's simplicity, not messing around with an extensive menu, but sometimes I do wish they had a little more topping options. This is where Five Guys wins, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos, A1 and hot sauce just works with my cheeseburger! I got the junior bacon cheeseburger, everything was succulent except the bacon. Bacon was overdone and dried out like it sat under the heat lamp too long, I didn't get much bacon flavor. Love the free peanuts and the fact that they have malt vinegar for your fries. This location was nice and chill, not too crowded on a Sunday afternoon but not ghost town either. It hurts to even say it... but yea, I like it better than In-n-Out... read more

I have been to Five Guys in several states. What's amazing is, whenever I tell people I live in California, I am always asked the question.....which is better? In-n-Out or Five Guys. I always respond the same way. I like them both for different reasons. Five Guys is trying to make the classic American burger and they do it well. The burgers here are large and you can top them however you want for no extra fees. When getting a burger, I would suggest getting a small order of fries and sharing them. Their fries are served in a cup that they fill 2.5 times too many fries! The bag is literally full of fries! I haven't been to this Five Guys since it first opened. When I went, it was packed! I wouldn't wait in the line again! I would suggest checking out Five Guys and DON'T COMPARE IT TO IN-N-OUT! Instead, just enjoy the experience and compare it to, itself! read more

Really is my favorite fast food burger joints. I love the burgers, and the fries come in a generous portion. Service is always good, and there is always free peanuts. I don't understand how people can leave a bad review about their allergy towards peanuts when they can obviously see peanuts laying out in the restaurant and they warn you about if you have a peanut allergy. People who complain about how tasteless their burger is, obviously if you don't add the right things in, and its lacking in flavor because of consumer error. Add the right things to your burger and you will have the best fast food burger. Much better than in n out. read more

Not a fan of it..... My husband and I thought we would try it one day because we heard it was way better then In N Out. The line was around the corner so we thought we would try it another time. Moving forward several months later. We are in San Diego with our son and nephew for the holiday weekend and we decide to see if Five guys are out there and they were. I was super psyched to try the burger since I love In n Out. After two bites I knew their burger did not live up to In n Out. So disappointed and will not go back. I get a little bacon cheeseburger ( You must be careful as a standard hamburger has 2 pieces of meat a "little" is one meat) The toppings are fresh and there FREE. Sorry Guys, In-n-Out is still king. The patty is far overdone and dry, and will always be so. Why? They offer a thick patty, but do not grind their own beef in-house (AFAIK), so they have to cook the burger all the way through to well done. The In-n-Out/fast-food method uses a thinner patty, with a much higher fat content. They can cook the patties quicker and without completely draining all of the juice away. The other viable method is to offer a thick patty, but grind the beef in-house, and serve the burger medium-rare - medium. This creates a restaurant quality burger, and will likely cost $10+. So, Five Guys occupies an unfortunate middle ground between fast-food burgers and restaurant quality burgers, and is inferior to both. My fries came out soggy, and if it's busy at the time you're visiting, I can almost guarantee your fries will be soggy too. They tend to overload the fryer when it gets busy, so not all of the fries get cooked enough. This issue, coupled with thicker fries that certainly need more time in the fryer to get cooked, and Five Guys fries will definitely have issues with sogginess. +1 for free peanuts and variety of toppings. read more

I have eaten at 5 Guys in Utah - so when it came to the OC I wasn't going to run there when it opened. Last night there was still a line out the door at 7:30pm. It did move quickly though. Dinner for my family of 4 was $32 - not too bad for the quality but a little high for a quick serve restaurant. We all had burgers....mine was not prepared as I ordered it - but it was still good. I do love the hand made meat patties...the quality really does shine there. All in all it was a good meal - not amazing and not worth the extra trip there. If we were in the area we would definitely eat there again. Just not sure we would make the drive there specifically! read more

Just to clarify I don't eat burgers to often( maybe too many in high school and just over it) but I like to try places I hear chatter about. To start off burger small fries drink 10 bucks. not gonna do that very often for "fast" food, even my favorite burger. It took kind of a while to get my food but it was lunch time although there was no one in line. Fries heavy on the seasoning and I didn't get the Cajun fries. I really liked them but halfway through I was over it, probably because a small could give three people a decent amount. Similar to in-n-outs fries but thicker. the burger biggest thickest patty I have ever had from a single burger the meat was delicious! meat made the bun seem small. Bun plain sesame seed a little boring for all the toppings you can get. I threw on some green peppers FTW. it had its ups and downs but it was ok i felt super greasy when I left the place. Probably just stick with tk burger and the 5 dollar big bargain. read more

Five Guys Burger is better than In n Out, as a burger goes. There I said it! Why? As a burger goes, this one tastes like the best home made burger you've made. Messy, but drippin' delicious. In n Out still has the best fries! A sweet balance between the two burger giants I'd say...kinda like Verizon use to have the best call quality but did not have the iPhone(ATT) who has the wow factor with the best phone if you know what I mean. I am glad Verizon has the iPhone now...and I am glad to go to Five Guys for great burgers and In n Out for the best fries. Ok people, are you reviewing on the FOOD or the PRICE?? Ever since they opened, I've loved this place. And, although it's a little sacreligeous to say here in SoCal, this burger gives In N Out's burger some fierce competition! The answer, it's all in the bun...light, dense and even a hint of sweetness, the bun makes this burger what it is. Your choice of extras is rather nice, too. 4 stars because the employees do tend to mess orders up sometimes, but if you've ever worked fast food, it's a tough gig that earned my respect for those behind the counter. I have a split review on 5 Guys. On the one hand is the food. I love their hamburgers. Without a doubt, the burgers are absolutely great. Like you made them yourself! (Presuming you can cook :)). The fries are also good and you get plenty of them! The soda fountain gives you so many choices you cannot go wrong. Plus, free peanuts while you wait. Who could ask for more? If you like hamburgers, then get on over to 5 Guys. The food verdict: 5 Stars on the food!!! On the other hand, there is the price issue. They charge a premium for what you receive. I recognize that the mandatory minimum wage drives up expenses, and prices for consumers, but 5 Guys appear to run a tight staffing model. So, it looks like they are good managers of their labor costs. I have to take a tricky step at this point - I "presume" they similarly run tight controls on food costs as well. That leaves the rent expense and I note this is not what would be considered an excessively high rent location (like, for example, Beverly Hills, CA). But, nor does it seem like it can draw thousands of visitors as they walk past it, either (this is not a high foot traffic location). Factoring all this together, my opinion is they could be offering lower prices. So, the pricing verdict is: 2 Stars. My over all rating is 3 Stars because I really, really, like their product. But, give me a better price and I would definitely award 5 Stars!!! read more

They were good! All the way baby, and thank goodness the girl at the cash register said the little burger is one patty, and the big one is two. Fries are awesome, good choice of drinks, yummy in my tummy! I was really disappointed with this place. Heard about it when we were in FL, but did not get a chance to go. For the price, In-N-Out is way better! Burger meat had no flavor. We went for the works on all the items outlined in black, but substituted fresh onion for the grilled. I had a cheese with two patties, my wife the plain two burger sandwich. They were messy! Get lots of napkins. Buns were fresh as was the lettuce and tomato. Mustard a plus compared to other places. Cheese was average. Fries were nice, but not worth the price. We split a regular order, and had at least half to take home. The burger and fries were very filling. Our bill for the 2 burgers and one fry was over $13 with tax. We chose not to purchase a bottle of water for $1.75. Tap water was not offered. Once was enough. We have no plans to return, but it was an experience to go at least once. Saw the peanuts as we left, no one mentioned what they were (we saw cardboard boxes on top of the waste baskets) or that they were complimentary. I'm not sure this is the best place for the nuts! read more

I wanted to see what the fuss was about this place, only I am about a year behind the trend. I ordered the "small" hamburger, which means one patty as opposed to two. I got all the normal fixin's, avoiding tabasco sauce, jalapenos, etc. I also got excited about the Cajun fries, and ordered some of those. When I bit into the burger, I was happy, but it seemed strangely familiar to me. I thought, and thought, and thought. I soon realized that this tasted EXACTLY like the Famous Star from Carl's Jr. The only difference was that for the same thing at Five Guys, I had to wait for 20 minutes in a line, pay about $2 more, and then wait 20 minutes more for them to make my food. While I wince at the idea of making this comparison, I still enjoy In-N-Out as my favorite fast food burger. Comparing In-N-Out to this place, however, is like comparing apples and oranges...they just ain't the same, nor are they trying to be. I did not enjoy the line, the price/value, or their "Cajun" fries. Apparently at Five Guys, "Cajun" means pouring extra seasoned salt on the fries without adding any notable flavor or spice. Good god, I was thirsty afterward! However, the burger was delicious, but not delicious enough to make me go through the hassle again. read more

First off, this is not In-N-out don't mention it or they might kill you haha. I asked a couple of questions when I was going to order and the casier looked at me and said, "this isn't In-N-out". I didn't expect it to be at all, but hey rude cashiers happen at times. Now on to the food, it was amazing! The burgers are big and you can put whatever you want on them. They have a good variety of toppings, grilled onions (nothing like in-n-outs), Grilled mushrooms, BBQ sauce, jalapeños and all of the regular toppings that go on a burger. Price, this is where it went a little south for me. A little over ten bucks for my meal, they don't have combos you'll have to buy everything separately which is fine. But one thing for sure it won't be a regular place for me to go to despite the good food. Good food doesn't have to be super expensive especially when you get a rude cashier. read more

My first time at any Five Guys, and it was everything I'd heard it was going to be. I walk in, the atmosphere is great - nicely lit and very clean! It made the whole place feel fresh! Was immediately greeted by the cashier, huge smile, very kind. Ordered the little bacon cheeseburger, cajun fries, and a drink. Umm, super plus, they have Coke Zero in their soda machine! Awesome! Order was ready in less than 5 minutes! :) The burger was a bit messy, but honestly, who said burgers are supposed to be neat.
