I'm still leaving it at 3 stars. The only thing that was weird is when i went to the counter to purchase my fox puppet, why do they need to look at my ID just cause i was gonna use my debit card. Is not like I,m some little girl. Little kids don't purchase things with a debit or a credit card. As far as I know, when purchase things in the stores with my debit or credit, nobody need to see my ID. I just think it was pretty odd. But other wise is a cool place to take your little ones. The employees that work there aren't bad. Is like going to toyland. For treat your little ones by taking them there and buying something for them. read more

My kid loves this place. I've been taking him here since birth and bought him his first toy after he was born. We always drop in on our weekly walks up Solano Ave. Now that he's older (10 months old) he gets excited as we approach the storefront. Lots of things to look at, but not overwhelming and/or overstimulating to the senses like Toys R Us. Toys and products are neatly organized and the staff is always helpful. Just bought the little guy his first tricycle (they have a nice selection of Kettler products). The sales associate was able to explain the differences between each model that they carried and after making our decision she offered the already assembled floor model on the shelf store window to save me construction time, trunk space, and to give my kid immediate trike time... just part of the Five Little Monkeys experience... read more

The people working here know the store, the stock and are very helpful with pricing and suggestions. The pointed me to some new popular toys for a b-day party that was being held for an 8 year old. I love Five Little Monkeys. The toys are wonderful, the staff is great, and the gift-wrapping makes life easy. It's such a fun place to look around that I find excuses to go there and "just look." The only down side is that I routinely find something I wasn't looking for, so I almost always spend more than I intended to. Their prices are great, so it's not breaking my budget though. This store makes my ovaries explode. No joke! I don't have kids, but coming in here makes me wish I did. Luckily, my super cute niece provides me with an excuse to come shop around their abundant selection of toys, stuffed animals, and more. It does seem like their wares are a bit pricey, but nothing I wouldn't already expect for a shop on Solano. The bonus is their very helpful and patient staff. They generally can help me find what I'm looking for even with my ambiguous scavenger-hunt-style questions ("Umm.. what would a three-year-old with a brand new baby sister want?" or "What can I get for a two-year-old with an arm cast?"). On top of that, they'll wrap up any items you buy at no extra charge. Superb! read more

Best toy store in the East Bay. Local, close to home and they really do have something for everyone. Boys, girls, young, old, you are guaranteed to walk out with something age and gender appropriate. Stumbled upon this store when I had lunch in the neighborhood. SUPER CUTE!! Staff was friendly and willing to help. While I was there I overhead them helping a woman plan a children's party and giving her lots of suggestions on what to do and even recommending different stores for different items she needed for the theme. And to round it out, they offered to wrap my purchase for free! (And with a bow)! EDIT: the birthday girl just opened her present and I snuck it away from her so that I could take off the price tag. Friendly staff, great selection of toys for infants to toddlers and even older children (maybe up to about 10-11 years old). They have standard toys like Legos but also creative toys like Sun Prints and craft kits. They have sample toys set up around the store for the little ones that accompany you to the store - a toy parking lot, marble run, train tracks, etc. They also have a small selection of books. Prices aren't as low as online retailers but for a physical store, the prices are reasonable. They have a free loyalty program, you can earn a $15 gift certificate after spending $350. Free gift wrapping, which is pretty genius and makes it an easy pitstop for picking up gifts. read more

I seldom have call to go into toy stores. Just when I need a gift for a child in my life or when I'm w/ Rinky. Wednesday she and I had lunch at Suzette Crepe Café, which is right next door. I had seen it, of course, but hadn't gone in. After lunch Rinky asked if I'd like to go and and of course I did. It's much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, two storefronts and lots of different areas to explore. The first thing that caught my eye (actually, I think Rinky saw them first) were some zombies about the size of the little troll dolls from the 60s/70s and the texture of soft rubber duckies. When you squeezed them "brains" at the top of their heads popped up. I'm not a particular fan of zombies, but I loved these. The thing that really captivated me, though, was in the next room, a complex structure of ramps and slides and such. You drop a marble into one of several holes and it rolls down ramps and into other holes. Unfortunately many marbles had become stuck, so I took it upon myself to free them, although I didn't get them all. If I had the space I would love to have something like this in my house! Wandering around the store I saw a collection of small metal cars, truck and buses, pink purses and other dress-up things. There were a variety of games, books, toys, puzzles and diverse amusements. There were hand puppets and sundry things to fuel young imaginations. At the front desk they had several choices of wrapping paper and I gather they do free gift wrapping. On the wall behind the desk were an array of emoji pillows. The people who worked there were friendly and helpful. This is a lovely store and gives me another place to go should I need to buy a present in the future. read more

the people who run this store are extremely nice, pleasant, and helpful. the toys are arranged by age (more or less), making it very easy to shop. they have many choices of good quality toys made of wood (not iffy plastics from china). and they have lots of cute vintage toys in the front by the register. and did i mention the extremely reasonable prices? not what i was expecting to find on solano. well worth the trip. please support the good, local businesses we have! read more

I was in this store today shopping with my kids. An elderly woman bought four presents for her grandchildren and had them wrapped. After the presents were wrapped, she asked for a paper bag to carry her presents. The cashier said "That will be ten cents." The woman spent a few minutes looking for a dime. She couldn't find it and was becoming embarrassed by her predicament. The young woman at the register told her that she could pay with her credit card. I walked up to the register and put down a dime. The woman and I left the store together and agreed that we had never seen a customer treated so callously at a store. I won't be going back until they they train their staff to treat paying customers with respect. read more

I took my nephews here and they just about lost their little minds. So nice finding an independent toy store with such a huge selection! Was very impressed with the range of toys they had and also appreciated the fact that things weren't too overly gendered in their categorization as far as I can recall. Giving it 4 stars instead of 5 though because the layout had me constantly worrying about knocking something over (especially with so many little ones running around). I have been shopping at Five Little Monkeys since I moved into the neighborhood 10 years ago. I like to support independent businesses whenever I can, and this store makes it easy. I can always find something cool for whatever kid I'm shopping for. Today, the most amazing thing happened. I realized that I had not received a receipt from my purchase last night, and I had received $10 less in change than I should have. The time of my purchase was closing time, and there were a whole bunch of customers trying to buy toys and have them wrapped; it was easy for the employee and me to not notice. If this had happened at a big store like Toys R Us, I would have been out of luck. After all, I can't prove anything. However, today, the manager at this store looked up my purchase and realized that the discrepancy in my change was the exact amount that was extra in the register last night after closing. She cheerfully handed me a $10 bill and a copy of my receipt. It's this kind of customer service that is hard to find these days. read more

I stopped in this cute little store to find a gift for my friend's 3 year old daughter. I found a very cool little "rag-type" doll that was all organic and quite unique. They seem to have some other unique items as well as some old standbys, but nothing too obvious or typical. I'm sure you can find something for most kids here. It's pretty cute and the employee that dealth with me was great and did a wonderful job wrapping my item. I do recommend you take a peek when your in the market for a child's toy. Great neighborhood toy store. The inventory is kind of packed in to this small space but I like to support places like this rather than the big box stores. It adds to the character of surrounding Solano avenue. Great spot to find a gift for the young people in your life. read more

What a fabulous toy store! Top quality toys, totally reasonable prices, and so much fun stuff! And its so well organized... there are sections for baby toys, haba rattles and cirque de soleil mobiles, a section for bath toys with gorgeous boats and squirting things, a musical instruments section, a crafts section, a cheap stuff section... and in the other half of the store, there is wooden train sets, rocket lauchers, dolls and doll house furniture, wagons... I could go on on. Their stuffed animals are fabulous. And they carry some fabulous brands of puppets... and have a whole section of monkey stuffed animals including a $15.99 sock monkey. They seriously know what they're doing at Five Little Monkeys. The toys are excellent quality and I love the theme-based organization. The staff actually knows the products and advises customers on purchases, a dying art these days in retail. This is a cute and quaint little toy store---a little gem on Solano! A while back I bought my nephew a plastic marble contraption that has ramps and wheels and a motorized pulley....he just loves it! This is just a great store. Everything they sell seems like it was made to make children happy, not to see how cheap it can be made. You feel like you're buying something that won't be thrown away the next day. That said, the items are reasonably priced. I've found the service in terms of gift wrapping and shipping has been superb. The clerks seem to actually want to make you happy that you're buying from them. I recently moved from Berkeley to Portland, and with five grandchildren toy shopping is a frequent event. Unfortunately I haven't found anything approaching FLM, which makes me only appreciate them more. read more

Cute little place right on the corner of Solano at Talbot, a stone's throw away from Cornell Elementary. Great variety of toys for such a small store; I liken this store vs. Toys R'Us to the equivalent of Natural Grocery vs. Lucky/Safeway. The store is small but has an excellent variety of toys for babies and kids of all ages. There's a nice costume section in the back as well. I was there shopping for a gift for my 3-month-old niece (cousin's daughter) and decided to buy the 'linky rings - 4 monkey-faced objects with arms for linking to one another'. It was cute, but I ended up shelling out about $16 (including tax) for it. From my perspective, many of their prices were a bit on the high side in relation to what I'm used to, because I try to shop cheaply. That being said, they do have items under $10. Also, one of the workers told me about the "green" efforts of this business and the toys certainly looked to be high-quality. Given this, and the size of the store, I guess it makes sense paying a higher price for better quality items. Some of the boxes had odd markings on it, but other than that the toys themselves were fine. Nice place to go to save time and hassle from the crowds and size of larger toy stores, and I'm always for supporting a green-friendly business. read more

They have a great selection of good quality toys that don't require batteries unlike the noisy and annoying (and in my opinion not very good for children) toys often sold at big chain stores.
