A wonderful experience at this fantastic candy shop! We were offered the opportunity to sample a piece of chocolate as soon as we walked into the store. We were also asked if we wanted to sample any of their seasonal chocolates (I did sample one...) and the staff were just super helpful during our entire visit. We bought chocolates and suckers to take home. The nice lady gave us $5 off for Father's Day and she also gave us a bag with 6 chocolates in it as a gift. My beautiful little girl was in low spirits this morning. When it was time for school to start, she was not ready to let go... Ms Simone saved the moment by holding my sweet baby's hands for us to separate. To show my appreciation and gratitude, I stopped by See's in El Cerrito. The staff is always so friendly and kind with a warm smile on their faces. I knew this is where I wanted to create a thank you gift for Ms. Simone. Marshall H assisted me this morning. He was warm and carried on a genuine conversation while I built my box of selections. I appreciated his patience while I selected the "best" options for my box. He offered to gift wrap without me asking. Of course I accepted, lavender wrapping with gold ribbon. The store is quaint, well organized and clean. The glass is always pristine to admire the assortment of decadent chocolate options. The chocolate is grouped together beautifully based on type with easy to read signage. We grew up on See's Candies with my favorite being a box of Nuts & Chews chocolate. This store has been around forever and it's very nostalgic to enter. Prices are NOT nostalgic. Wow over $30 a pound! Good thing we have old See's gift cards from years ago. We came on Christmas Eve rush as Dad needed a box of Bridge Mix for my 93 year old aunt. Who still plays bridge and buys Bridge Mix?! I guess it's still popular because there was a stack. Luckily they had a register open for people not waiting in the long line out the door to select their own chocolate pieces. The current staff here are friendly and efficient, even offering me and my out of town guests multiple samples that we were curious about trying. A very nice experience here and we ended up buying a bunch of candy. It's expensive though very good. I remember when a pound was like $8 back when I was a kid. Think over $30. now! In the past, many years ago, I have had a slightly bad experience at this location with one clerk who when I asked her what she might recommend snarkily snapped back with 'Well, what do you like?'. Not the same - Sadly. The Lack of concern is shocking. Called See's after an email - to discuss a resolve. Customer service only offered an apology and felt no real sense of escalation- urgency or surprise of having a loyal customer being saddened or tremendously dissatisfied - prompt to cancel this very late reorder in order to get our refund which took weeks to get resolved. I realize the it was right at $100, but we merely wanted to gift someone special a love offering of trying See's. However See's Didn't care they would not receive our business. We (4 generations of us) have been long time fans of See's and their candy offerings. In the email .. sent to us It sounds like a play on words. (A complementary replacement- at no (extra) charge after we paid for candy that was shown as delivered on your site ... but UPS never received the package. (See's you all missed the mark) which caused us to miss giving someone special a See's gift. Because we thought highly of Sees until now. I am not sure how an order can be a complementary replacement an order we that I paid for and waited and waited for with no track until the date passed. This is not a favorable remedy being a loyal customer for years - encouraging and buying (year around- major holidays visiting your kiosk) - and stores during holiday in person, mail orders, all year and seasons along with my coworkers, civic groups, friends and family. Just not good customer service at all to inconvenience your customers and state "oh we will we'll ship your paid for order out now - and that's about all we can do for your inconvenience and loyalty- have a nice day". This was my spot back in the day. I went to AHS and would stop by on my way home as I walked through the plaza. I'd get my sample and move on. On my first job, I'd stop by every Friday for a small bag. And now, I go occasionally. But over all of those years, this place has been consistent! I can count on my candy to taste wonderful! Easter is a favorite holiday of mine. Not because I was reared going to Sunday School for years, but I always loved the Easter candies my mom would surprise me with! Mom loved See's Candy and this was her favorite store. She was always partial to the Bordeaux Egg. Creamy, flavorful, and delicious. She'd get a sharp knife and slice off a sweet treat for me. I was also fond of the easter candy diorama. I got one for many years and enjoyed taking a peek inside to see the little chickie and bunnies. Honestly, not my favourite but in terms if grabbing a cute box of chocolates or you want a variety of flavours, I would come here. I tried the almond cluster, the almond chew, the dark chocolate peanut butter Easter egg, and the normandi. I really enjoyed the almond cluster and the almond chew but the Easter egg had way too much peanut butter so I just ate the chocolate around it. The normandi was also too sweet for my liking. Okay! If you like sweet, consistently smooth, textured, melt in your mouth and thoughtfully delicious chocolates, caramels and candies , See's candies is unsurpassable! The variety is immense; from chocolate covered nuts and caramels, to lollipops and licorice! My family has been faithfully indulging in See's for 3 generations! Favorites: milk chocolate caramels with almonds, butterscotch squares, walnuts rolls, milk chocolate peanut crunch! See's has a white chocolate covered cashew brittle the was heavenly-divine because it had coconut mixed in the white chocolate but for some reason they stopped adding the coconut during covid because it was added by hand...Bring back the coconut please! If you are prone to cavities avoid these addictive candy shops... Also, sugar is bad m'kay so maybe avoid them anyway! read more

I love coming to sees but my last visit left me with a bad taste in my mouth. (no pun intended!) i went in with my daughter and we were heading towards the checkout counter when a employee approached us with samples. (she was about 5'4, asian, with a high bun) she called for somebody to assist us with our items. The two other employees behind the counter looked like they were working on some boxes for another person so we waited. the employee with the samples called again and a girl turned and greeted us kindly. (she was about 5'3 with glasses and curly hair) she began ringing our items and chit chatting. the employee with the samples walked behind the counter and began scolding her in front of us!!!telling her to pay more attention and all sorts of nonsense i couldn't hear. completely unprofessional!!! the poor girl looks so flustered! ive had over 7 years of management experience and i never scolded a employee in front of a customer or even on the sales floor!! take it to your office! i didn't catch either of their names but our cashier was friendly and even gave us extra samples for the wait! the customer service here is always amazing but management needs work.. read more

OMGGGG...this place!! It's like something out of an old TV show like Leave it to Beaver or Father Knows Best (he really DOESN'T- it was always Mom who did). Actually there is an old episode of I Love Lucy that features the original See's chocolate plant that I've always loved! Twice last week, I arrive at store 10-15 minutes before they close, and stand in line, waiting to get in. Both times, a worker comes out and tells those of us in line, that we can not go in as they have to close at 6:00 and some workers have to clock out. And this happened once, when there was only one person ahead of me. What sort of customer service is this? If you close at 6:00, you should accommodate those that arrive before that time. And worker(s) with the store key should leave around 6:15 or so. They take forever to get some of the boxes packaged and then tell customers waiting, that they are sorry but have to come another time. Ridiculous. read more

Some El Cerrito See's stories: STORY #1 Several years ago my son came up to me and said, "Mom I have some really really bad news--maybe you'd better sit down. I think See's may be closed! I was walking by there today and there was paper all over the windows!" Of course my heart stopped beating and I tried to calmly say, "Okay let's not jump to conclusions....we'll have to check it out! Whew--they were just remodeling. STORY #2 I had just bought a bag of chocolates in the tell-tale See's white bag with the b/w checkerboard design. I was chomping down on a piece when my dentist was walking towards me.....BUSTED! STORY #3 The See's factory in SoCal was partially destroyed in one of their larger earthquakes. I was checking in with my LA cousin's family. Her husband answered and he said he was afraid to tell his wife about the See's factory...."She'll be so distraught!" STORY #4 I used to work in downtown Berkeley. When the News broke that the See's in downtown B was closing my co-workers were devastated---"one of them said, "See's is the only thing that gets me through my day!"
