I've only been here once, and once is enough. I came to try the sandwiches for lunch since I had driven past it so many times I thought "why not". I ordered to go, a Reuben and Bitchin Beef Sandwich with the kale salad and cucumber and peperonchini salad as sides. Initial thoughts about the shop, good selection of unique items, (The BU kombucha on tap and nice selection of their flavors...the only reason they earn an extra star above 1) and friendly service. Wait time wasn't bad either so I got my food in about 10 minutes and left. The reason my review is so bad is because the quality of the food was really bad. The Reuben sandwich was cold, the cheese wasn't melted and the bread wasn't toasted, it had some sauerkraut on it but it didn't taste crunchy and sour like i expected, and slathered in the sauce which I wouldn't even call thousand island. I feel like I could have made a better sandwich, nothing special. My boyfriend had the bitchin beef, and it was a similar experience, the bread was so thick, cold and dry you could barely taste the meat or other toppings. I tried a bite and wasn't impressed and asked him what he thought, and all he was meh, it's OK. Even though I wasn't thrilled, mediocre overpriced sandwiches shouldn't warrant a 2 star review, but a side salad with wilted and BLACK pieces of kale and broccoli slaw do. Are you kidding me? This looks like it had been sitting for over a week, it was sloppy and soggy, and literally inedible. The cucumber "salad" was just giardiniera. I like to try new places and find local favorites but hard pass on this one unless I'm coming for something prepackaged to buy. read more

Mostly Organic and healthy Bought some grass fed beef and I'm absolutely loving this place. It'll definitely be my regular butcher shop once again. We were so excited to try this place! Sadly, it didn't live up to our expectations. I ordered a Ruben. It had 1/2 cup of a very spicy sauce, 4 thin slices of meat and about a tablespoon of purple sauerkraut. It was insanely spicy and I couldn't taste any flavor from the meat. By far worst Ruben I've had. Husband had the pork belly slider which was, in fact, shredded bbq pork on a French roll. It was ok. Not great and not terrible. We ordered the cucumber salad which was a few olives, cucumber, tomatoes and whit onions in a sauce. This was ok. 17.00 for lunch that was "eh" was disappointing. We will go back for just the meats but won't be eating at their deli again. read more

The meat here is delicious and priced reasonably. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the dry-aged meat is pretty good. The only thing that I'll say is that the meat does lack that dry-aged flavor that I would really expect, but 30 days isn't really enough to get a super funky flavor and when I look in the window I see lots steaks in bags, which isn't really dry-aging. But for the price the outcome is always delicious. I wish they offered steaks that have been aged a variety of times or at least full sub-primals. read more

Food safety? I and my assistant witnessed a woman use her bare hands to reach into the meatcase and pick up my food. A woman who I believe to be an owner* witnessed approvingly also. I and my assistant asked for "morrow bones"; the woman who persumably is the owner* reached in a freezer locker and pulled out a large section of femer, wrapped in butcher paper. I purchased and baked this femer bone. The bone had no marrow. Fat melted and flowed onto my oven's floor. This so-called marrow bone had been intentionally stuffed with congealed solid white FAT. *This was not my first visit. Neither woman has introduced themselves in an otherwise empty store. I've felt like an intruder all 3 visits. read more

I just moved to Ventura and was looking for a meat market, I came into Main Street today for the 1st time and bought a 3 bone seasoned ribeye roast. Im writing this review before even cooking it tommorrow for Thanksgiving. THE FAMILY WORKING HERE IS OUTSTANDING !! The meat I can tell will be quality, they also vaccum seal it after purchase. But I waa so impressed by the service this will be my go to for sure. Threw in 2 small tri tips for free and 2 bags of fresh bread rolls on my way out the door..Shit, I was overjoyed ! My sandwich was okay . I liked the place but one of the workers was super rude to other employees and had such a bad attitude. There were two women working the one that rang us out was super sweet but the women behind the counter who just hung her mask off her left ear with it not on at all, who was preparing food was just plain rude and unhappy . We both felt uncomfortable as she snapped at the others workers and spoke to us . Maybe she the owner ? Not going back sorry . I'd give them a one star, but they had two adorable kids being neglected behind the counter when I tried to order food. Never made eye contact. They weren't concerned that a stranger was smiling and waving at their toddler/infants. I'll get back to you on the steak we bought from the lazy girls mom. Cute kids, so two stars. I guess. The lack of follow through. This establishment decided to provide a discount for Axxess users, but after multiple attempts to use said discount I was denied. They have also decided to not participate in the Axxess program moving forward. I get it, there's a pandemic. But more people are eating at home. I see this as a greedy way to grab a few extra bucks from locals. I'll be taking my business to the Ventura meat co. Where there was no question on accepting the Axxess discounts. read more

I love this butcher. Their grass fed beef and pork are of outstanding quality. Prices are high for some, but you are paying for the quality and grass fed, pastures meat is expensive to raise. Their dry aging is fantastic. They are always friendly and the shop is cute with lots of farm market items. It's very easy to spend a lot of money here. I have, but I have never regretted it. Always avoid factory farmed meat. Buy and eat good beef from a great butcher. Your life depends upon it. Tip: join the text rewards club for great deals! read more

I've been hearing about this place for a while now, and feeling tired of searching multiple locations to find organic,ethically sourced meats and poultry, often with questionable results and exorbitant prices, I decided to check it out... I had seen online that they offered bulk boxes at really(for the amount and presumed quality) decent prices. When we arrived there were only a few customers. There was one person behind the counter and he was busy with someone. We were greeted and then left to wander and look around a bit,which I appreciated. The long meat case takes most of the store)as you'd expect in a meat market) the meats displayed were all clearly marked and priced and look really really fresh and good. There were a few local items around the store, local coffee some Ojai beet Kavas(sp? -The maker of this by the way is where I first heard about the market- in a Facebook post of hers) a few marinades etc, but not not too much. The far end of the shop is for prepared foods, but it was hard to tell if that was actually operating... I thought of seeing if they had any truck to meet but I didn't end up asking. Anyway, when I was finished walking around went to the front counter and asked very helpful woman about their boxes that you can order... They must be pre-ordered 2 to 3 days in advance,And paid for at the time of the order. We went through all three of the box options and she explained in detail to me each item,how it would be packaged what the ingredients were in sausages(made on site)And what if any substitutions could be made. I selected the box I want it we went through item by item identifying how I wanted them packaged (by the pound piece etc.) and what day I would be able to come and pick them up. Overall a very pleasant experience- no pressure at all, and seems like it's a very good deal I will have to come back and update my review once I pick up my box next week!!!!! As we walked in we were immediately greeted by Sharon. The place was not too small with a long butcher display of meats. Prices are decent for the quality of meats you are getting. This day we opted for some pre-made baconburger and chorizoburger as well as some ground chicken. We also bought some vegetables. In looking around I saw some unique organic juices and drinks in the refrigerator. They also have a very nice array of Authentic Italian products for sale. Coffee and teas are also available. On this trip since we had just eaten we were not able to try the sandwiches from the deli but will be back to try them soon. We were extremely happy with the way they treated us and the customer service they gave. Sharon was more than friendly and answered all the question we had about the meat. Because It was our first time there, she gave us free in house made sausages to try. They truly were delicious. We will be back for sure to make our meat purchases. read more

I bought two great looking portahouse steaks from a young lady with braces. well that ruined our dinner guest arrival. the meat was chewy and had no taste. It was horrible. so bad I could not give it to my dog. you can be fooled by looks. very bad. FIRST and LAST time I go there. save your money and look for better quality meats elsewhere. Tri tip sandwich was off the hook! We were visiting from out of town and we needed something to pack to the beach for lunch so we yelped a good place for sandwiches. We decide to try this place out. The meat was very tender and cooked to medium/med.rare (our preferred temperature). The bread had to be a recently baked loaf I'm hoping from the same business or a local bakery and they used a garlic mayo/aioli. We were very pleased with our lunch! I think alot of the reviews may be fake. I was excited to try this place due to reviews but the tri tip sandwhich was one of the worst ive had. It was flavorless and was basically kids size I was done in 3 bites. There must have only been 3 ounces of tri tip in the there. The beans weren't too good either but not as bad as the sandwhich. The bbq sauce was very dissapointing and was just sweet baby rays(or something that tastes jist like it), the cheap stuff you buy at walmart for $1 a bottle. Artificial and disgusting. This is the place to go for meat in Ventura. High quality, grass fed, dry aged meat. Amazing Italian and breakfast sausage that they make there. Fantastic, thick cut bacon. The service is always excellent. Sharon is always super helpful during a consult of how to cook any type of meat you buy. I recommend signing up at their little check in station when you make your purchase. Just enter your phone number and you'll find a nice savings every few purchases. Also, cash is king there. You get a 5% discount when paying in cash. They recently started serving BBQ tri-tip and brisket. Best BBQ I've had in Ventura County. I truly wanted to love this place. I came in with my husband on a Sunday to buy some steaks for a small dinner party. I was choosing and purchasing the steaks. I was doing the cooking. The employee that cut our steaks would only refer to my husband, went so far as to ask his name and shake his hand but turned his back when my husband tried to offer my name. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. We are both classically trained chefs, so I found it a little offensive that I wasn't being taken seriously, but after being a female and working in restaurants for ten years, that's really nothing new. I went to Main Streets Meats because it was on my Axxcess card. I got their Italian sandwich and it was outstanding. The employee who waited on me did a great job and was fast and efficient. I was rendered speechless when Shell n Tawny told me they never had grass fed beef. I dont even know why they've chosen to keep living..... but whatever. I demanded early birthday meat and we were off like prom dresses to the butcher. We shimmyed and chanted "meat meat meat" all the way to the car. We got filet mignon, added some sea salt and white pepper, seared um up, finished um in the oven and got to eating. It was high quality and full of delicious flavor. Everyone there was great and greeted us with a smile.i went in looking for korean bbq style cuts of meets,they quickly recommended me some cuts and i went ahead and got thin cut short ribs.they were so tender and had a nice marble of fat.they told me they had fresh chipotle sausage that they make at the store, and they hooked me up with some for free cause it was my first time there.they have so many great stuff to choose from from organic nuts to all sorts of great premium meats.we will definitely be going back soon because they told us they now sell cooked meats on the weekend. read more

I came here because the web site claims that they have a wall of organic spices, flours, coffees, extra.. Not so the pictures on Yelp are old and now they have around 15 small jars of spices only 1/2 of them are organic. There no longer is a large quantity of fresh local fruit, avocados only today. They claim that their meat is organic grass fed only but, when I asked the butcher he said no it pasture raised, not organic and grass fed only . I Also came for fresh Kombucha but they did not make any today or for awhile. The staff was very polite and honest but beware they are not the store they claim to be! read more
