I have been going there regularly for Sharon's (the Owner/butcher) Prime bottom round which she so expertly slices thinly so I can turn into the best Jerky ever! I've also purchased her "dry aged" Rib eye cut to my desired thickness. The consistent quality of her meats and the variety that she offers is outstanding and Sharon is willing to put custom orders together like ground chuck and spicy Italian sausage ground to a thicker cut for my home made Chili. Today I had another great experience at Main Street meats, read some of the comments about poor customer service I have no clue what those people are talking about??? Today I arrived at 615 which I found out was 15min past they're closing time Sharon and Kyle were more than happy to assist me anyway. All the meats were already put away in the cooler I told them what I was looking for and they promptly pulled it out hand cut my NY steaks just the way I like them. Even though they were cleaning up for the day and probably wanted to go home for the weekend, they gave me nothing but a warm inviting vibe, and this is while I will continue all my meat and local grown grocery needs with them! Our go to place! Everything in the case is fresh, hormone and antibiotic free, no fillers or color added. The selections are an inspiration to create yummy things and there are some items you couldn't find anywhere else like the "Ultimate Burger"- best burger EVER! Other specialties are the "Avocado Bomb", chicken stuffed with cheese and asparagus and we just love the "Chili Lime Chicken". It makes meal planning easy because much of the selection just needs a side dish to accompany it and dinner's a done deal. What's even better is they also have some side dishes! Holidays bring many special goodies to the table and although you need to pre-order your turkey of prime rib, it'll be the best you've ever had - guaranteed! YUMMY! I stopped in yesterday for the first time and the customer service was perfect. Friendly and helpful but let me look around without feeling rushed. The place is perfectly clean and well spaced out. Plenty of space to browse around and check out all of the goodies in addition to the meats. Let me tell you about the meats.... I went home with a Rib-eye and BBQ'd it up last night. While it was delicious last night the leftovers today were even better. I took some to work with me today and could not stop nibbling on it all day long. It was by far the best steak I've ever cooked-- and I give all of the credit to the quality of the meat (certainly not me). I also picked up a huge bone-in pork chop. Like many others, I've basically stopped cooking pork because it always seems to come out too dry no matter what I do. I invested recently in a Sous Vide and so I gave it a try on the chop. Last night I immersed it at 135 degrees for 2 hours with some herbs, salt and pepper only. Then I popped it in the fridge and left it until I got home from work this evening. Tonight I heated up the grill HOT HOT HOT and then quickly seared each side of the chop for maybe 90 second per side. OH MY GOSH. This is the way pork is supposed to taste! Juicy all the way through, light pink in the middle, every bite was so tender I was amazed. And with the pre-cooking I had dinner on the table in just minutes. This will become a week-day staple I'm sure. They give a discount for cash and I'm sure I would have spent more at Whole Foods for the same quantity of meat (and lower quality). If you love quality protein and want to support our small businesses, you need to try Main Street Meats. This is the best of Ventura. read more

I was extremely disappointed by the lack of customer service after reading all the great reviews. Upon walking in I was not greeted at all, no hello, can I help you, nothing at all. Waited several minutes looked around and still no assistance. Several minutes later a woman walked in and was attended to right away. Not sure if it was my ethnicity or appearance, but staff were certainly not interested in assisting me. This might be my favorite place to spend money in Ventura. They have a wide selection of delicious, high quality dry aged meats. The prices are higher than the grocery store but they are not too steep and it pays to eat high quality food - for your health and your taste buds. I have never been disappointed by a cut of meat I have purchased here. They also provide some incredible fresh roasted local coffee beans to boot! I'm not sure if they have any wines but it would be cool to offer some wines with suggestions for pairing with meat. read more

I would like to take a moment to address the one star rating above, maybe it's just me but shouldn't a meat store be evaluated on the quality of the meat available? To give a one star rating based on a bag of chips seems ludicrous at best. I can't say enough great things about this place. Firstly, THE SANDWICHES. If you go here and don't get a sandwich, you're missing out on the best part of your day. My favorites are the turkey bacon panini (on naan bread!) & the mama mia (on an olive roll!). They also have tons of organic flours & ingredients bulk, and overall awesome local sources for their stock. A kombucha bar, whaaaat?! Amazing local & organic coffees, honeys, nut butters, jams, baked goods, dairy... The list goes on & on. Last but not least, the meat- always amazing. Best chicken, best turkey, best pork (bourbon soaked bacon!!!!) and best lamb. I haven't tried the beef yet, but I trust this place to have that on lock too. They must be friends with all of the local farmers, because the quality of stock & freshness can not be understated. The owner & butcher are both very friendly and always knowledgable & helpful when I come in (even when they are insanely busy, they make sure I don't feel forgotten). I saw the bad reviews, and I think those people must just be impatient/unrealistic, or else just unhappy people looking for flaws. I've been coming in here 2-4 x's per month since late last year (upon recommendation from an acquaintance for their stuffed chicken- which is also amazing, btw), and I haven't had one bad experience. Great marinated meats, for a quick dinner (i think i paid $6.99 for marinated caribbean jerk chicken breast and about that for marinated carne asada/skirt steak) Great hotdogs ($5.99/lb), my kids love them. I bought a pork chop, gorgeous porterhouse steak, couple pounds of ground beef, New York steak and bacon. She also wanted us to try her sausage so we have a couple of those too! I love this butcher! The quality is great and Sharon is the best! She is always helpful with how to prepare the meats, cuts the meats and bags them however I want. She is very accommodating and never bats an eye. This past Christmas, I didn't realize I needed to order the filet mignon ahead of time. There wasn't much left and not really enough for what I needed. Sharon said she would get it for me and I picked up the most beautiful filet mignon the next day. I had never cooked it like a roast before and she told me how to prepare it and it was the best filet mignon we'd ever had!!! My family couldn't stop raving. Prices are very reasonable to me for the quality. Love the breakfast sausage and stuff portobello mushrooms. She's prepared smoked meats and kebabs for me and I am never disappointed. All the meats, deli counter and full line of Cento Italian products were incredible. They can get what they don't have in stock (duck breasts) etc. I have chef training and love to cook. This place is great. The staff here is very friendly and the meats they offer are fantastic. Personally I like the New York and the Tri Tip but they convinced me to try the triple pork burgers with chorizo and ground up bacon, the other day and I was not disappointed, they came out amazing on the grill. Also they are now stocking more and more cuts of meat so it's just getting better. If you like meat, this place is a must. Definitely try their steaks out and don't forget the Tri Tip. read more
