Really great BBQ. I had sliced brisket, pork ribs and burnt ends. Wife had the pulled pork. Sides were Cole Slaw, Brunswick stew and green beans. Meat was lean and tasty. Ribs had a nice char on them. Burnt ends were very lean, often we get a fatty portion of brisket. I especially liked the Brunswick stew. Do not get it back home. And a nice change of pace. Not expensive for BBQ in a tourist city. Staying in Pensacola Beach, and this was the cheapest meal all week. A down home place that the locals like. Inedible. We ordered a 1/2 rack to go. It smelled great and I couldn't wait to take a bite. I was famished. As we were driving away, I opened the box and saw the smoke ring. I was excited until I took a bite. How awful. Literally the saltiest thing I have ever eaten. I had to peel the bark off, it was so tough and dry. First, they changed the pricing on the platters and their contents. I did not grab a pic of it but I will next time. The pulled pork platter was great as always. I really loved the smoked flavor of the meat. It reminds me of Ky BBQ. The Brunswick stew was great as always. I love those flavors. The loaded baked potato was a different issue. I don't think it was worth the cost. Get ready to pay $3.99 for a 20oz bottle of soda. Definitely not worth it!! This has to be one of the best kept secrets in Pensacola. The lemon pie and crustless pecan pie are spectacular. The chicken is phenomenal. The brisket is good. Their bbq sauce is out of this world good. As someone who grew up eating bbq in the Carolina's, the bbq sauce here is second to none. Mrs. Paula was at the front desk and is the sweetest person ever! Hot Spot Barbecue is easily the best restaurant I have ever been too, with service I have never seen in any other restaurant. The food was delicious and the ribs were sliding off the bone while I was eating them. Filling portion too and priced very well. The waiter Reed offered my friend a second portion of food for free purely because he still looked hungry, saying "we are a family business". We also got free desserts. We came ready for some good BBQ (highly recommended by word of mouth) and I'm not sure if it was a bad time of day to visit, bad pick of meats, or what..but sadly it did not live up to it's reputation. I ordered the 3 meat combo platter and upgraded one meat to be brisket burnt ends-extra fatty, one sliced chicken, and the third Pulled Pork. I chose coleslaw and MacNCheese as my sides (one side is included). Here's the breakdown: Brisket burnt ends? I might as well have eaten cardboard or beef jerky. It was so dry and had no fat on it. Sliced Chicken Breast? It was okay, lacked the rich smoke flavor most bbq chicken contains. But overall, not bad with their homemade BBQ sauce. The pulled pork? It was very good. So there is a plus and a recommendation! The coleslaw was very good and the MacNCheese was good too. We had 5 in our party and we were easily seated in the back party room to nicely accommodate our size. Our waitress was wonderful and the service was quick. Wow, what happened to Hot Spot barbecue? Robot attendant? Higher prices? Less quality? Cheap paper menus? Only one side with combo plates? If you haven't ordered from hot spot lately, here's a few things to consider... First, all prices have risen by as much as 5 dollars on all combo plates. Second, you only get ONE side now, there used to be 2 with each combo plate! Third, though I picked up my order before it was ready, it was cold by the time I arrived home from a mere 6 block drive. Fourth, when I arrived, I was informed they ran out of ribs but they included additional brisket and a sausage link, after the order had been placed, and I arrived to pick it up. So far, they have received numerous complaints about ordering from a robot instead of the personal service we all know and expect. I attempted to post this once before, however, when I hit publish, it didn't even show up! Sorry HotSpot, but you have lost a loyal customer to your competition. How very sad.... read more

Everything is good here. Two of us had the barbecued pulled pork sandwich. Our other friend ordered the rib tips, thick and tasty! Local, independent, reasonably priced. They make and sell their own bbq sauce. The mustard (hint of sweetness) potato salad is just like my mom would make. Pies are well made, quality.
