I wish I had known about Five Star Flooring before engaging with another company in the Alexandria area. I had bamboo flooring installed, and not being warned that it swells with humidity, I've been back and forth with the company multiple times trying to have them fix a faulty installation - leading to bubbles in the floor. This over 2 years trying to fix. Finally, after being ignored by the other company (even stopping by in person and arranging appointments), I decided to work with another company and stopped by Five Star and explained my situation. Long story short, they came by my house the next day, and a technician was there two days later after that to fix the issue. All done - the price was great, the repair looks and works great, and I couldn't have been happier with the friendly, prompt and understanding folks at Five Star - thank you!! read more

What a disappointment! Background: selling my townhome and need new carpet. I went to home depot and got a quote. I then called local business to see if they could match or beat home depot prices. Plus, I prefer to support local businesses and needed it in a short time. Called the store and had an appointment same day for price quote and measurement. I explained that one of the room will be split in half, agreed the price included new pads which came to $900. This price was higher than home depot. However, due to time and support of local companies I went with this company and gave a $500 deposit. Couple of days before installation, I received a call asking to revisit the place to make sure the measurements were correct. On the day of installation, I noticed there was no new pads. I asked the installer, he said he didn't received any new pads. I called and was given a bogus response. I was told that my pads wnere in great shape and don't need replacements. However, he had to increase the square feet. So, no price change. The installers left a mess. I had to repaint several places on the walls. In addition, I had to clean the bathroom where they had use to make some cuts, plus had to clean up my front yard myself. What made this worse, at the end of the job the store sent someone to collect the balance. I was told my balance was $500. I asked him to call the store and confirm that number. He came back and confirmed the $500. I politely pull up my online bank account and showed my deposit that was cashed. The next day, I went into the store and paid the $400. I should have gone with home depot. This was not worth it. Go some place else... would not recommend at all. They will not have my next business... read more

After reading David's review, I had to put up my own. Bad experiences happen, and I'm glad that he was able to work out his transaction with the credit card. I have worked directly with Hassan twice in the past 3 years. We replaced carpet in our old house before we put it on the market and he had a product that was definitely in the price range that we were looking for. We also finished our basement in the new house and Hassan went out of his way to get us the product and color that we were looking for. We started our search at other stores and went to him last once we knew exactly what we wanted. His installation team was also very clean, quick, and courteous. I unfortunately have to echo Asma's initial review. My husband and I needed carpet for our new house. We chose Five Star due to the convenience in location and because most of the reviews we saw were quite promising. Hassan initially bent over backwards for us. He was warm, appeared humble, and seemed quite knowledgeable. Once we ran our card, the entire script flipped. The installation was fast but slapdashed--the technician left unsightly scratches to our newly painted molding for which we had to get our painter back out to retouch. They also failed to install a threshold in our dining room, essentially leaving the work unfinished. As Asma indicates, Hassan completely disappeared and to this day has been impossible to get a hold of. We plan on installing hardwood for the rest of the house, and plan to stay far away from this business. read more

Overall, our experience with Five Star was great. They have a wonderful selection of carpets (and looked to have a great selection of hardwood and laminate too) and our sales associate Hassan was knoweldgable and great at suggesting the best carpet for our high-traffic playroom for our four-year-old and new baby due next month. They did run into a snag with the manufacturer, who first sent a carpet roll that was far too short for the room, so we finally got our carpet installed almost four weeks after we initially ordered it -- a bit longer than we were hoping. But once it came in, it was installed quickly and very nicely by installers who knew what they were doing and cleaned up after themselves after they were finished. read more

Watch out for Hassan who is the owner of 5 star carpet. He is full of promises and quick to take your money but no goods to deliver. Had to run after him for months after he charged my credit card 3K for carpet installment. No call, no show. I had to fight hard with CHASE bank to get my money back. After a few months from all this nightmare, Hassan decides he is going to fraudulently charge my credit card again for $570. I have then reported him and his company for fraud and CHASE has now taken over the matter. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere to do business with. read more

I had hardwood flooring "installed" in my home with Five Star and it was the worst experience I've ever had in dealing with a commercial business. The floor started squeaking and sagging after the install and repeated attempts to have the owner remedy the situation were met with evasiveness and/or no responses at all. After hounding the owner for 6 months, he finally promised to send out another installer to make repairs. Their "remedy" was to remove the squeaking boards and replace them with new ones that were hammered down with so many nails that the floor is now an unsightly mess. Craftsmanship is not a word that describes this company's work. Kudos to anyone who has had work done without any problems; I will never use again nor recommend them. read more

Hassan and his team originally did a floor repair when I was a renter, and it was stellar work. After I became a homeowner, I called every floor store in Alexandria just to find him, and luckily, I did! He has since done another job for me, with a third one starting soon. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO PERFORM ANY WORK IN YOUR HOME!! We experienced flooding in our basement in July of 2015 and contacted Mr. Hassan of Five Star Carpet& Rugs at the Alexandria Virginia office to replace the carpet in the basement and stairs leading to our main and top level. Our Initial impression of Mr. Hassan is a nice respectable business man, however after our experience our impression is that he is all about getting your money. Mr. Hassan convinced us that he had skilled, insured and licensed contractors that could install kitchen tile, sand and stain hardwood floors that are licensed and insured. My husband and I agreed to hire Mr. Hassan to install new carpet in the basement and stairs,install porcelain tile in the kitchen, sand and stain the dining room, front living room, foyer, main hallway. We paid to have additional hardwood floors installed in the study and bathroom on the main level, that would also need to be sanded and stained. On August 2, 2015 the contractors began to survey the kitchen and start the installation of the tile. Mr. Hassan's installer refuse to lay the tile(18X18) saying it was too large for the kitchen and it would not aesthetically look right for our size kitchen. Mr. Hassan could not return the 18 x 18 tile to the manufacture, so the partial down payment for the carpet ($1,500) was used for Mr. Hassan to purchase 12X12 porcelain tile. After the installer received the 12X12 tiles, he complained about the tiles being different sizes, installed about 15 tiles, and then walked off the job to never return. Third week in Mr. Hassan hired a contractor to complete the installation of the 12X12 tiles in the kitchen. The grout was not mixed correctly, many dark blotches in the grout in many spots. The grout needed to be removed and re-grouted. During the same time the tile project was going on, the same contractors started the sand and stained of the hardwood floors in the dining room, front living room, foyer, main hall, study and half bath on the main floor. Upon inspection we found three visible boot prints in the foyer and main hall, scratch marks in the corners from the sanding machine, uneven application of the stain and polyurethane in the foyer, hallway, dining room, bathroom, living room and study. Globs of dry polyurethane hidden under the book case in the study and in plain sight in front of main hall stairs. The contractors used the kitchen sink to clean their equipment leaving grout residue in the bottom down the drain of the stainless steel sink. To remove the residue required an abrasive which scratched up the bottom of the sink. Our gas stove was disconnected and left in our family room for two months. We complained several times to Mr. Hassan with no results on his parts to have our stove reconnected. We paid Five Star Carpet & Rug $8,959.94 to perform the services outline in the contract. This was not a good experience and at times stressful to deal with the constant drop by of contractors that was at times rude and unprofessional. The contractors lack professionalism and showed little care and respect in our home. We had to hire a professional flooring company to re-sand, re-stain and re-polyurethane all the hardwood floors that Five Star Flooring Carpet and Rug contractors messed up. We never received the carpet for the basement or the stairs. DO NOT TRUST OR USE THIS COMPANY TO DO ANY WORK IN YOUR HOME. Horrible experience. read more

I would really like to give them a zero. My eighty year old parents purchased a carpet from Hasson. The carpet was installed, however it was not the color they picked out. Hasson explained it was the manufacturers fault but promised to replace the carpet for no charge. My parents believed him and released the credit card company for payment to the store. They picked out a carpet and waited. When my dad called to ask about it, he was told it would cost $325.00 for someone to move the heavy furniture items. They had asked for the same crew since they had done a lovely job installing the first carpet. They were told they would only send out one man to do the job. My father was upset at this point, because every time he spoke to Hasson, the explanation changed and was not what he told them before. My father told him to keep the carpet. He was done with them. Then my parents get their credit card statement to find that the store charged them an additional $900.00 without them knowing about it. He used their card without their consent for the second carpet. They stopped payment. My parents are on a fixed income. It took them along time to save up for this carpet. Now they have a color they didn't want and know they were being lied to the entire time. I would not recommend this store to anyone. They are dishonest !!!!!! read more

I hired Five Star Carpet and Rugs to do wood flooring, carpet, and ceramic tile. I also hired him to do kitchen cabinets and granite countertops. Hasan is a liar!! He told me that he could do this job with no problem. He kept lying to me telling me that the pantry was ordered and it would be in but it was never installed. I gave him my credit card information and he charged $3000.00. I also told him that he would get the balance of $2000.00 when he completed the job. He shook my hand and left. A few days later when he was supposed to complete the job, my wife and I saw that he did nothing that he said he would do. Hasan then took it upon himself to use the credit card information that I gave him days earlier to charge my credit card $2000.00 without authorization on the day that he was supposed to complete the job. I have a fraud investigation being conducted on him at my bank. He still has not completed the job. I had to pay another company to dispose of the trash his people left behind. Don't be fooled by his "kind demeanor". Hasan is a liar and a cheat. His hand shake mean nothing!! BEWARE read more
