Derrick competently presented us with quality carpet options and offered a great deal, including high-rated quality padding with a moisture barrier. This padding enhanced comfort extended the carpet's life, and improved insulation and soundproofing. The most rewarding aspect of working with First American was interfacing with only two people, Derrick, and the installation team, and receiving consistent information. Derrick personally visited our home to precisely measure the bedrooms, hall, and stairway. Jose, the son of Orlando who installed our carpets in 1984, led his team of experienced installers who must have exceeded industry standards and best practices. They did an outstanding job, with seams strategically placed to be inconspicuous and the carpet cut accurately around edges and obstacles, transitioning smoothly to bathroom tiles. Within an hour of project completion, Derrick made a follow-up visit to ensure the carpet met all workmanship standards. He emphasized the importance of proper stretching to avoid potential wrinkles and was pleased with the tight stretch and his precise measurements that minimized waste and ensured a perfect fit. I went to Stafford location.Great selection. All flooring is super high quality that can't be matched from a big box store. It would be near impossible to not find a floor you like. The owner is not pushy nor does he apply high pressured sales tactics. I had entire second floor of my home carpeted - gorgeous product and excellent installation. Had laminate installed on entire main floor. Product is gorgeous and high quality - for the most part installation was ok. A dip in high traffic area of kitchen was pointed out during measurement phase AND to installers on their first day. The existing floor was still present - so we had no idea if subfloor was damaged. The installers worked over two days. They did not mention any action being needed for the "dip" which measure aprox 2 x 1 foot in diameter. I assumed it had been "easily fixed" and taken care of. Until I walked over it and felt how VERY spongy it is. Nothing was done to it. The floor was installed over the dip. I asked the owner if it is going to hold up. His answer... "it should". I have since looked, and the manufacturers website states "Remove bumps or peaks in subfloor and fill depressions with floor leveling compound to ensure no more than 3/16" unevenness per 10 ft span". My dip is DEFINITELY greater than 3/16. It seems my floor was not laid according to manufacturer's directions. Why did they not follow the instructions from the manufacturer? So I am banking on "it should" and hoping no future issues. Baffled that it was mentioned TWICE and not addressed during install once existing floor was removed. I have to say, even though I love the look of the gorgeous floor, every SINGLE day when I walk and feel the big soft spot under my feet, it is disappointing and concerning. I was willing to pay the price for the peace of mind that my floor would be installed according to manufacturer's instructions. I know it is a "floating floor" but you can Google until the cows come home and EVERYWHERE it says it should not feel so spongy especially in an area that big. Also, when submitting my final payment, (I even wrote on the check memo) I mentioned that we wanted to have some trim work addressed (see attached photos) where it looked "awkward" because it just "stopped" at the bullnose (and showed photos of the issue to the owner). However when the installers came to fix it, they stated it "has to be that way"... although another in different area with bullnose - was done correctly. That was brought up, but the installer insisted the awkward way had to be that way. The installer said he would talk to the owner and have him contact us. That was December right before Christmas. I realize we have had the holidays and a snow storm...but it's been almost a month. No Call. Even if the installer never relayed the message, the owner was aware as I told him in person...and you would think would do a final follow-up call to see if all was ok. He has my contact number and certainly cashed the check right away...knowing I made note of it on the "memo" portion of the check. Also, I have since noticed that in four places, the boards were cut short and do not go under the baseboard OR under the quarter round. The manufacturer website states "slide the flooring at least ¼" underneath the door frame and wallbase. Also leave a CONCEALED 3/8 inch minimum expansion space under each". Well, these four are not concealed as you can see in the photo. Again, manufactures directions were not followed. Not only do they miss the mark by not going under the wallboard, they don't even go under the quarter round. Has nothing to do with contraction or expansion...as we were without heat for two days during snow storm and my house got down to 41 degrees. In that extreme cold and with regular temperatures...no change in those 4 spots. So overall....I loved the selections, I love the products, very happy with sales process, so far extremely pleased with the carpet install - just disappointed in the laminate install issues and lack of follow-up. I didn't even bother to call about the 4 gaps...because I already didn't receive a call back about the other trim issue and at this point there is nothing that can really be done unless the floor is pulled back up/redone. I can live with the gaps, but I am very concerned about the spongy area and every time it is walked over, I hold my breath hoping it isn't going to break at the joints. How disappointing to have to enjoy my new floor that way. I paid about $18,000 for the entire two floors. I would hope at that price, after the final visit of installers to correct an issue (that was NEVER corrected), a courtesy phone call would have been extended to do a final "are you satisfied?" So, I will just live with that trim piece looking awkward as well and live with the huge concern of the large spongy area. Just for the record, I am a huge believer of giving good reviews. I was interested in carpet specifically and they had lots of great options to choose from. I noticed they also had plenty of other flooring options but I was only looking for carpet. I didn't have a stellar experience. Yes, the prices are great and they promised me the world and all...a few months after having $9,000 worth of floors put it on 1 level, I have several nicks n this supposed warrantied flooring. Oh I was told how expensive and good quality they were with polyurethane made into it so it would last and last. Called and was told that I must have dropped something, which I didn't. Had to keep calling, because they didn't contact me like they said they would to get someone to come and look at the nicks. Instead of replacing the boards or looking at the whole floor, a guy comes out and puts in wood filler??? For $9,000 and supposed warranties I would expect them to come and replace the boards. Also, I wasn't here when they finished and they didn't leave any extra wood, which is what I was also questioned about. Like, where is the extra wood? I don't know. You tell me. If there were any scraps, they weren't left here. Was told many great things, but I'm not happy with the product I was sold that was supposed to be super high quality or with the service now that they continuously get nicks. I don't have any pets. I just have furniture in the room. I don't even let people walk on the floor with their shoes on. It's ridiculous. So, after reading my review Derrick and Goli have gone above and beyond to take care of EVERY problem I have at no charge. Not many companies these days want to do this. They are replacing the piece of carpet that was a shade lighter than the rest in my house AND they are going to replace the wood. I ran into the owner and his wife in a grocery store and he even said to her, "She is a customer we are going to make her extremely happy!" Thank God for businesses like this that go the extra mile. Great experience at First American. We replaced all the carpet in our house. This was the first store we stpped at and it was the last. They have a large selection of carpets and Derrick was very knowledgeable about his products. He listened to what we were looking for and showed us a variety of carpets. He told us of sales and offers on the carpets, being informative but not pushy. The measuring and installation team were prompt, friendly, and fast. Orlando and his team did a great job. We arranged to have the entire upstairs of our house recarpeted and set a date for three weeks ahead. On the day of the scheduled installation, no one showed up at the appointed time. When the store opened, we called repeatedly to find out where our installer was - to no satisfaction. After 3 1/2 hours, we were finally told that they "sent the installer to the wrong job." My husband and I both took days off from work and had dismantled all of the beds in the house - only to have to put them together again until the next day. The owner finally called us the next day - after the installers howed up - to apologize. When we asked about a discount, he gave us $100 off of a bill ov $8,000. Do not use them. read more

I had an estimate to install hardwood flooring in my kitchen. I was hoping to match with the existing hardwood in the rest of my house but sadly my existing hardwood is discontinued. My kitchen is older and had at least 3 layers of self stick vinyl tile the previous home owners had installed. Derrick came out and took a look, we pull up on the vinyl floor because it was already coming apart and he told me that underneath the layers of tile that it appeared that some kind of concrete mixture had been placed on top of the subfloor and it looked like it was going to be pretty difficult to pull up the old flooring. I had also expressed that I did not want a t-molding to connect the new hardwood to the existing hardwood in my home and he stated that would not be possible as the floors would not connect because their was a height difference. He advised that the job would be a 2 day job, with the first day being the demo of the old floor and prepping for the new and the second day would be installing the new flooring. His estimate I thought was a little high but he did explain that it was because of the condition of my subfloor under the old vinyl tile. I understood and agreed as I needed the floor done asap because my cabinet install was on hold because of the floor replacement. Installation day came and the contractors showed up along with Derrick and the demo process began. Derrick left and said he would probably come back in the afternoon to check up on the progress. Contractors pulled up the old floor and installed the new hardwood floor in about 4 hours!!! Turns out that the old floor came up pretty easily sub floor was in good shape and no need for the transitional t-molding!!! They were able to attach both floor to each other and I now have a nice level flowing floor much to my surprise!!! Crew started at about 8-30 and were done by noon!! The installers took care to cover my floors and furniture and did a great job cleaning up before leaving. I'm giving them 3 stars because although I was very happy with my installation I do have a couple issues. Derrick never came back, which I understand because the crew was done pretty quickly, but I thought I would have least gotten a call to make sure I was happy and satisfied with the work and product. My credit card was charged the full amount of the project The a few days before the project was even started, I understand the hardwood had to be ordered but every project I have had done in my home, usually it's a half payment prior to work being started and the remaining after work is completed. I also feel I was overcharged a bit, I was told it was gonna be a 2 day project and it appeared that my subfloor was in bad shape but neither was the case. I was also told I was going to need that transition molding and that was also not needed. I did sign the contract and agreed to the price based on what Derrick had said about it being a bigger longer job but again it turned out to be only a 4 hour job. Also the hardwood flooring appears to be not as good quality as my existing floor, my 1 year old dropped one of her toys on it and dented it!! I signed the contract for the estimate given so I don't expect them refund any of it back but I'm sure had the job turned out even worse than the estimate I'm sure I would have been expected to pay additional. read more
