UPDATE (Resolution): After my initial review, the owner, Khoi, came out personally with his team to assess the situation and successfully resolved the issue by properly remounting the garage door brackets. I appreciate him stepping up to fix the safety hazard. My original review of the initial installation experience is below: They installed my brand new garage doors a several years back and I just found a massive hazard caused by their work. The center metal bracket that holds the heavy springs was ripping out of my ceiling. When I looked closer it appears the installer completely missed the wood stud. One side might have barely caught a piece of wood, but the other side was just screwed straight into empty drywall. I was told by another professional that you cannot mount springs with hundreds of pounds of tension to hollow drywall. I texted and called the company showing pictures clearly showing the metal crushing the drywall and leaving a huge hole. His response was literally "What do you think is wrong, I don't see anything wrong." When I pushed back, he actually tried to tell me that only one side needs to be in wood and the other can just be anchored in drywall. read more

When looking at things, I saw that the right side of the two springs used to open the garage door had broken. I was able to manually open the garage door and get our car out. From there, I sent a very early message to see about a quote for this fix, along with pictures and mentioning when we had the original installation. Khoi responded very early when the company opened. So professional, prompt, etc. Well, as I have gotten a little older, we decided to outsource our new garage door; yes I installed the previous one. Like everything else, the price has gone up more than double from 5 years ago, but still a good reasonable price. They even upsold me at the last second with an overstock insulated door; well worth the extra $$/"discount." Good or bad, I have in the last 5 years installed 3+ garage doors, openers, etc. And by far, this is the quietest! Big appreciation for Tri (technician) who was patient with explanations and absolutely no pressure business. Came on time and knew exactly what was wrong with our (aging) door. I called Five Star Garage to see if they could come out and repair my parents' garage door. The guy was able to come out the same day, only a few hours after I had called and it was a Sunday. My parents who dealt with him directly had only nice things to say about him. Knowledgeable, friendly, efficient. He fixed their garage door and had it running smoother than before it has broke. My parents have used these services many many years back and our garage has lasted this long. While I felt the quoted price was a little bit high, it makes sense when you encompass in labor cost. We had to change our motor and barring and I think springs as well, and were quoted $1100. Tuan was here for about 2 hours, and then came back for another 1 a few hours after since something wasn't working properly. While we didn't know exactly what wasn't working, we assumed it was just the motor. Tuan had explained everything else that was wrong and educated us on how to maintain the conditions of the garage and we ended up changing the motor entirely as opposed to trying to fix the old one. I believe he said the new motor was a 5 year warranty, and something else was another 3. Now with the barring, he noticed it the first time he was here diagnosing the garage door, but didn't recommend us to change it until the second time he swung by. When we asked why, he said "while it's not perfect, it's still useable. But if you don't change it now because (proceeds to explain what the barring is used for), then it will cost more to fix it in the long run if the rod gets stuck." He said he didn't want to add x amount more to the amount we were already paying. I'm glad he took that into consideration since the price was not cheap. We ended up paying the extra cost anyway so all the changed parts were done at the same time. Our garage door is now more quieter and well, newer! And it works! read more

Their prices were very reasonable, and they also provide a pretty lengthy warranty (which thankfully we haven't needed to test). Just want to say I'm really impressed by 5 Star. Tuan came and installed a new garage door opener in my garage back in April. (I kept the orig door and rails and spring.) It worked amazingly but recently the rail was getting caught and had issues with the sensors. 5 Star gives a 1yr warranty and 5 yr parts so he came back yesterday to adjust the sensors. He didn't charge me and did a quick and efficient job. He even helped me move my mailbox drop so it wouldn't get caught in the sensors line of sight. Update in response to the owner's comment: The job order was specifically approved for the new wall control (the model, known and on file, costs $65 shipped directly from the manufacturer). The dishonesty lies in invoicing for the maximum pre-approved amount ($300) for an issue the tenant had already planned to handle independently, while submitting a new estimate for the actual problem ($250 to replace a $65 wall controller) and presenting it as if it were a new issue. Additionally, the estimate included the replacement of a fully operational part--the jackshaft. This approach is misleading and deceptive, as replacing a simple plug-and-play $65 part is being presented as a $550 job. read more

My garage door couldn't open because a guide track detached from the ceiling, a cable slipped out of the drum, and a hinge broke. I sent these details requesting repair service on Yelp. A lot of companies responded quickly. The first two came fast, but they had zero interest in repairing my door, telling me the hinge was an older style and the new hinge would not work. In addition, the springs were too old, cables were broken... One company even told me that the most expensive option was to repair it, compared to replacing it with a new door. Each one quoted me over $4500 for a new garage door, and it would take weeks, or even months, to get the new door installed. They did not even give me a quote for the repair. Then Five Star Garage Door Service came to the rescue! Their technician, Tri, arrived, brought his tools and ladder off the truck right away, and was ready to do the repair. After we agreed on the price, he immediately got to work. He replaced the broken hinges and the cables, and fixed the guide track. At my request, he also replaced both springs and all 10 rollers. He proactively fixed other minor issues I hadn't even noticed, lubricated everything thoroughly, and ensured the door and the opener were in perfect working condition. The best part? All of this professional and comprehensive work cost only a few hundred dollars! My garage door now works better than it ever has. I could not be happier with Five Star Garage Service and our technician Tri. He was installing a new garage door, using our existing door. Tri was on time, actually a bit early. It was obvious that he knew what he was doing completely, moving from one task to another. There was quite a bit to do, as he was replacing not only our old opener, but also moving us to a belt-driven system. New photo detectors, external coded keypad, running new wires, etc. After the installation he tested everything thoroughly and took time to make certain we knew how to use everything, including the LiftMaster app that controls the door on-line. Tuan measured height of the garage door two inches more than actual. He quoted and ordered 8 feet but actually 7 ft 10", turn out the top panel glasses not able to be in the middle of the panel. Complained to Khoi, he made a trip looking at the measurement and re make a new top panel to fix the look. Definitely not a company grab your money and run. Also very fast in respond to mis-align sensor which cause garage door not able to close. I like business who is willing to own their mistake, less profit in short term but more business in long term. read more
