Los Altos, CA Anyway, One day after fixing broken springs, cable drums and cables, all roller blades, I heard loud bang noises when I opened the garage door. I looked up and found out the bottom roller was off the track. I saw top track was not aligned with bottom track and top track was cutting through roller blades making nosies and one roller was off. When he put new roller blades, he tookout bottom tracks and he did not align them correctly when he put them back on. So, I aligned them correct. This was a very sloppy work. New rollers got cut marks now. The following is the review I posted on 3/25/2016: On the evening of 3/23/16, my garage spring was broken. When I looked up the repair shop on yelp and found out my neighbor gave this shop good mark. So without calling around, assuming that yelp provides a good, honest rating system, not rigged by dishonest trades and shops. I called this shop on morning 3/24. Matt answered and he said $280 for replacing springs. Without hesitation, I sent him my address to his cell phone. This is my first mistake. I should call around several shops before decision. And he showed up and he said that he will replace cable drum, cables and roller blades, too, in addition to springs, without any proper reason. I asked him to just replace springs for $280 that he quoted. He kept saying he can replace roller blades for $100 and he recommended to replace cable drums/cables. He quoted all for $799. So, he is quoting to replace cable drums/cables for $419 - this is way over average price for cables/drums. Roller blades, cable drums/cables were not bad and they need not to be replaced right away. I kept asking him to replace strings only for $280. But he kept saying that I need to pay him $87 for service charge and he will leave if I do not do all the service he recommended. I was very upset and confused with cost overrun over $280. I told him $600. He said $699 with a check and I go to the bank and get cash and pay cash for $599. After, haggling each other, he offered $659 and I was so upset and he kept threatening me to leave and asking me for service charge, $87. This was my second mistake. I should have sent him away paying him $87 with a lost cause. I should have recognized his business tactics. When I think the whole thing now, I do not have any obligation legally to pay him the service charge $87 because he refused what I ordered him to do. I asked him the job to replace springs, not other services. But at the time, I could not think straight because I was upset with the added cost overrun and his threat to leave, asking me the service charge $87. It is like a scam: a naive customer tries to save $87 service charge and it forces him to spend $519 more for not requested services, initially and later discounted to spend $319 more. (And later on, he discounted to $599 for all after I helped him with holding a work light). Of course, you have to replace them eventually but they were not planned to be replaced,right away. Last time, when I replaced broken springs, the good, honest trade man, I remembered, replaced springs and put them all cable drums/cables back - to replace springs, all cable drums have to come out to take out old springs and put them back on without asking extra services. Next day, I called around shops and found out that cable drums do not need to be changed unless there is cracks or broken. Matt (the garage repair man) kept telling me there is scratch mark in cable drum. That's the reason he has to change them. Cables also was not too bad and not need to be changed immediately. The roller blades were worn but they need not to be replaced right away, neither. So, I recommended the following: First, call around several shops before you decide. Second If you want to call Matt and work on your garage door, ask him first if he is charging you his service charge $87, refusing to work on your requested service and leave when you do not want all his recommended services. The son of the owner of MC Garage Door came to repair my door on January 16, 2016. I was charged $1159 for the installation of springs, rollers, drums and opener brackets that were installed in less than an hour. I felt like I was over charged so I called around to see how much other company´s would charge for the same parts and labor. They were all quoted around $600 or less. For this reason I wrote a bad review for MC Garage on Yelp to warn other people. Within hours of writing the review the owner called me to say that he agreed that I had been overcharged and offered to I return money if I took down the review. I agreed to this arrangement. Since then I barely used my garage because it was our storage during our bathroom and kitchen remodel. I cleaned out the garage this past weekend to start parking my car again, but when I tried closing the door today Monday (just four months after the repair) the door bent on the top and one of the door´s windows shattered and it would not close completely. My ex husband who was bringing my daughter home and the time examined the door and noticed that there were screws missing where the bracket had been installed. I called MC Garage and the owner asked me how much I had been charged, what had been done, and reluctantly said he would send someone our after I reminded him that his contract said "We provide a one year warranty for the work performed on this contract." He sent his son, the same person who did the work before. His son said that the problem had been caused by screws that had popped ( that would have been screws he installed, but we did not find any screws, we believe they were not installed) and from the door going up too far because the motor´s force was set to the highest level. That is a major safety issue! He said the motor problem was not his fault either because he did not touch the motor when he fixed the door in January. If he did not touch the motor as he claims, he should have.For safety the force should be set at the lowest level possible, or it can cause major malfunction. The tension was set at the highest level, and he left it that way! I got lucky that something more serious did not happen. The garage door is bent, the panel unlined and a has broken window that was caused by MC Garage negligence, but they refuse to fix. read more

Friday night I got home from work and heard a loud bang and originally had thought it was a neighbor's house. I went to the garage to check and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. It wasn't until the following morning on Saturday, that I had realized something looked off with the garage springs. It had snapped. I spent the afternoon doing some searches and after reading various reviews, got in touch with Matt, the owner of MC Garage Doors. He was able to respond on the same day. He had another job that required a little more time so he showed up despite it being late at 9pm. Once he had done a thorough assessment of the issues with our garage door. He had noted that the wire was fraying and identified a bracket that was actually not even attached as the bolts have flown off somewhere. Really not sure how this happened. This was on top of the broken spring. I trusted Matt on his assessment about what needed to be done and we were able to come to an agreement with the price. He came early the following morning on Sunday to do the job. I watched the whole process from start to finish. Matt was very detailed making sure everything was balanced and aligned properly. Some of the bolts the original contractor had used were actually too short and some even loose. He replaced these bolts with longer ones and ensured everything was secure. The cable broke on our garage door which caused the entire door to fall off the tracks. This happened late one Sunday evening and we could not lift the door manually to get the cars out. This was somewhat urgent due to the need for transportation to school and work the next early morning. We called around to several other repair shops that stated online they were either open 24 hours or open Sunday evening. The first several repair companies we called answered the phone but said they were not working that evening. After what seemed like a frustrating process we finally reached MC Garage Doors and Matt answered the phone right away saying he was currently attending a church function, but requested we send our address over to him via text message and he would coordinate getting out to us later that evening. Well he did arrive timely and was very helpful. Also knew just what the issues were the minute he looked over the garage door, had all the parts and worked until after 11pm at night to get the door up and running. He even replaced some parts and fixed portions of the door that were also ready to break down, which also made the door less noisy. Since it was late and we were all tired I did not have a great attitude and for this I apologize to Matt. My husband and I would recommend his repair services to everyone. This was one of the finest customer service experiences I have had in a very ling time. I was panicked as my garage door wouldn't close properly and I couldn't secure my home . I called MC Garage Doors and the lovely Christie answered the phone and she was a take charge person and very sensitive to my needs. She said she would have someone there within an hour and the base service call would be a very fair $85. Talk about service, he was here in just a half hour. Best Garage door service in San Jose or entire Santa Clara County, and San Mateo County where I am located. Matt was extraordinarily thorough in his examination of the problem and offered me several very affordable options for repairing garage door. Fixing my garage door involved the replacement of the springs and rollers. While we waited for the spare parts to arrive, he thoroughly inspected all the mechanisms and he made adjustments to the system to improve functionality. Matt and his nephewobviously love their job and excel at doing it. From first phone call, to the quietest garage door you have ever heard...took less than two hours. Ethical, respectful and talented. We highly recommend MC Garage Doors. We also hired Matthew to put in a new garage door for us based on positive Google reviews. It turned out great. He was responsive, punctual (both of which, as we find out, are unusual traits for a contractor), reasonably priced, hard working, and did quality work. He and his brother-in-law (Will's Garage Doors) worked well into the night to complete the project on time as promised, and cleaned up afterwards. The final price did not change from the bid. Shortly after the installation, we messed up the allignment of the garage door due to our own fault. We called Matthew, and he came right away, fixed the door, and charged us NOTHING although we were more than willing to pay for the service (and the travel from Saratoga to San Mateo). I would recommend this company to any one who needed their garage fixed or even a brand new one. Our garage door broke Saturday at 4pm and I just Googled repair garage and what do you know the yelp for mc garage popped up. I told my landlord about the company since it stated the were open 24/7 and had great reviews on yelp. She gave them a call and the were over our place within the hour. Now that's what i call excellent service. I was bummed they could not start that day (our garage is too custom and they didn't have the size in) but sure enough on Monday they sent a guy over and had a brand new garage door inserted within 3 hours. My garage door has been broken for sometime. The door wouldn't close unless I force to close it, as if there was something blocking. I knew it has some thing to do with the sensor , but not sure whether the sensor itself was broken or it just needs some realignment. I tried to realign in the past but it didn't work. So, I called MC today and explained the issue. Matt gave a very reasonable estimate, but advised me to try to fix it by myself to avoid the cost and gave me the directions. I was able to fix the issue in another 5 minutes and he helped me save some money. Unlike some other companies, he did not try to sell his service. He is very genuine. My garage door had jammed and MC Garage doors came from San Jose to North Monterey County at 7:30PM with my garage door frozen, about 10 inches from closing, not able to move it with any power or manually. And, to make matters worse, I had to go on a business trip the next day and could not leave town with the garage door in this condition. MC Garage Doors drove the 70 plus miles, one way - and fixed my door in less than half an hour. The service and professionalism was superior! They really did save my day and business trip schedule and, were reasonably priced! I could not have asked for anything more. The previous owner of my place left the garage door in a horrible state, so I've dealt with them twice in the past few months for a couple issues. Matt Sr diagnosed both problems immediately, but I chose to get them fixed separately. Matt Sr and later both Matt Sr and Jr came out late in the night both times (because garage door problems never seem to happen during the day) and were both very courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I highly recommend them based on this. I'll admit I know nothing about the pricing of garage door repair and equipment replacement, but in my opinion there's nothing like having a company or person that you trust will get the job done well and is professional and knowledgeable. Over the years, we've had four or five companies service our garage door, but MC is by far the best. They have excellent, friendly service, very reasonable pricing, are available at odd hours and weekends, and have a better warranty than the others. This was our second time using MC--the first was fixing up a shoddy job done by a previous company, and they recommended we add a second spring due to our heavy door. At the time, we passed on that, and a bit over a year later the single spring gave out. We had MC come out and put up a dual spring configuration. They did the job very quickly, and the door now sounds much more stable than it ever had in the past 20 years. read more

The owner, Matthew, arrived on time for the designated appointment, and was quickly able to identify the source of the problem. He recommended replacement of the device and provided a fair estimate of the relevant part and installation costs. He was very courteous and recommended an approach that was consistent with my budget.
