Mr. Tai is our go-to for this barbershop. He's only there Thursday through Sunday, and we've been seeing him for our boys' hair for at least 7-8 years. Tan is great, as well- many clients come in and wait for Tai or Tan. The store stays busy with nonstop customers filling in the waiting area, but they are pretty fast with their service. Best part is, male haircuts are only $3.99 and female haircuts are $6.99 and up, I guess depending on length. There are usually at least 7-8 barber/stylists there when we go. They all seem to get along and have fun while working. I'm only rating based on cuts by Mr. Tai & Mr Tan. They are friendly and diligent- they make sure we're happy each time. This is the second time I've gone to shave my sides down (which do look good) And I've asked them not to cut the top of my hair when I specifically asked them not to because of the particular way it grows And I think he just started instinctively doing it while finishing my sides (about 2inches) and now it's completely uneven. Too short on the side that needs to cover up and and the other side still reaches my eye. I thought this time putting my hand on top of my head before they started and saying "none of this" was clear but I guess not. The sides and the back of my hair look great! Language barrier may be an issue, so I recommend bringing a picture of you with the haircut you want, and showing it to the barber before starting. I brought my bf here to have a cheap haircut since i dont think boys need it expensive. I was bored so thought I would have a trim. The lady cut my hair didn't give a dam about what I wanted and kept saying I got it I cut it for you. ... jesus I didn't get to finish my sentence. So my hair turned out terrible and when I said the sides are not even, she just get the scissors and chopped off one longer size without even measuring or looking. Most fudged up haircut ever. My bf had his hair basically trim down short with a machine which I could have done it at home. He said he wanted short on the side and long on top but the lady cut his hair wouldn't listrn and kept saying the same crap: I cut it for you I cut it for you. Bullcrap. Of all my reviews, this salon (mainly the lady that cuts my hair) is the most consistently high ranking, yet simple business. I have been coming to here to get my hair cut for the LAST 10+ years I can remember. I got my hair cut here before I went to college, while I was in college when I came back home to visit, and now I still go here after my college years. I have not been disappointed yet. Tan, (pronounced "tahn" I believe), is great. Don't go for the conversation, but the 'communication' is good .... mostly smiles, and "thumbs up" after you show them a picture of what you want. Other non-verbal communication: (either written or witnessed 1st hand): 1. - prices are clear, 2. - "we'll be super quick", 3. - "It'll look good, if not great" 4. "bring cash". I've been getting my haircut here for over fifteen years. You can't go wrong with a $3.99 haircut! I moved to Humble about four years ago and still drive here weekly for a haircut. Tan always does an amazing job with my hair. He is the best at fades and more "urban" inspired haircuts. There's always a long wait for him because of his work. I've been to places like Great Clips where they charge $12.99 and their haircuts are very subpar compared to the ones I get at Star. Understand the rating is for the relationship between the service provided and the cost. This wouldn't compare to a high end barber shop or salon at all. Needed a haircut. I pass this place all the time. Saw good reviews on Yelp. So, I figured why not stop in for a quick trim. It was another Vietnamese, $3.99 haircut shop. But, it was definitely better than the last one. The gentleman that cut my hair was nice and pretty thorough. But, there is still the language barrier and it wasn't quite perfect-sideburns a little uneven and at the wrong angle and no matter what I told him, I couldn't get him to understand that under no circumstances did I want him using the thinning scissors. It just makes for an uneven cut and grow our. But, not that bad. And as I mentioned, way better than the previous salon. It's not up to the quality or attention to detail that you get in a more expensive salon. If you are looking for a clipper cut, it will be perfect. I prefer a scissors cut with clippers only to clean up around the edges. I'm probably done with the bargain shops for now. But, it was worth a try. read more

I used to pay $10 somewhere else with $5 tip but this place cuts so much better and they are so fast. How can you beat a $4 haircut. When I go there every two weeks, I get a shampoo for $3 and with $5 tip, it's so worth it. By the way the $3 shampoo is worth so much than that... Go try it for yourself and you'll see why. I kind of expected my haircut not to be so good considering the name of the place and the price. My mom wanted me to get a haircut here and I told her that I doubt it would be good. When I show the barber t a picture of a quiff, she said okay so I thought she would givee a quiff. Then when she was done, I realised that the haircut was the same length throughout the hair, from the sides to the center, it was the same length. It took her like two minutes and the hair was too short so I didn't want her to do it again and make it even shorter. So I go back to the hotel (I was out of town for winter break) and I go to take a shower. When I come back, I comb my hair down from my forehead and realized that it was uneven. It was so uneven it looked like I had bangs which the barber messed up terribly. There is a great clips nearby, and I assure you its worth pay a bit more for a haircut that is a million times better. Okay so if you are looking to get a haircut! This is the perfect place for you. Low price & fast. But the reason for the low rating is because I'm not sure how clean and safe it is there. My husband got his beard shaved and they cut him on his lip without knowing. And I'm praying they clean there clippers each day.
