Prepare for an essay, I am incredibly disappointed and I've never felt so uncomfortable before. Do not go here for Nina. My mother actually got her hair cut and styled here a few months ago by Letty. She's incredibly friendly and talks, I was actually there and we all enjoyed good conversation. I decided I wanted to get my hair cut and go to the same place since my mom had such a good experience there. I called today and asked if I could make an appointment for the same day for a wash, cut, and blow dry. I asked about pricing and was told $35. Sounds great. I head to the salon and walk in. I was told I had an appointment with Nina. It was quiet and Letty was actually working on a client. I was hesitant on what to do and I didn't know if Nina was still getting ready, so I prepared to sit down. But, I was told she was ready for me. Her tone was not friendly at all. Perhaps that was me overlooking it, so I didn't immediately jump to conclusions on her behavior. So, I sat in the chair and she immediately began preparing to cut my hair. My mom actually asked her if I was getting a wash (since that was the original plan) but wasn't getting a response. I told her that I would want a wash and blow dry, but it was almost as if I was bothering her by saying this. When I sat to wash my hair, she immediately mentioned that my hair is way too long and thick for it to just be the 35 with the blow dry. This is not crazy for me to hear, I know my hair is very thick and even I struggle dealing with it. It would be 50 instead. Eventually, it came time for the actual haircut. Firstly, she asked how much I wanted off. I told her just the dead ends. She came back with how long my hair was and it was "too long" so I should go shorter. I am one that doesn't like my hair short, so I am extremely hesitant with the idea of my hair not being long. She didn't even reference how much that would be, so I'm basically clueless at this point. I had to ASK how many inches it would be. I told her to just go with three, but she was pushing for four. I wasn't completely opposed, but I told her to stick with three and I'll see if I want four. She then said: "You don't get your hair cut often, do you?" I was a bit surprised, but I told her I usually get trimmed 1-2 times a year and my last trim was around half a year ago. I told her that I get incredibly nervous with getting my hair done due to bad experiences with the cut, not necessarily the stylist. She straight up asked: "Why? It's just hair." I find that interesting since she is a hair stylist and finds hair to be "just hair" in her field. Almost everybody can agree that hair is a sense of identity and confidence. If it was just hair, I would've cut it myself. She didn't bother talking to me at all. I was literally having to hum, fiddle with my fingers, etc to pass time. I was trying my best to be friendly. The actual cut and style? Great. My hair looks nice and feels good too. I thanked her for the service and I didn't even get a response. My mom was so upset with my experience with Nina that I literally had to stop her from going up there to say something. I will have the owner of this salon know that this place just lost not one but TWO clients. We were eager to try a place out, but were left incredibly disappointed. My family and I have a lot of people we are in great connections with in Jersey Village. We will sadly have to inform people to NOT go here and find a different place. I'm literally only rating this two star since my hair looks good. Everything else? One. read more

I have been having my hair done by the hair stylist at Hair by Four for over ten years. The staff is very friendly, punctual and does a great job as a hairstylist. The prices are reasonable and the salon is very clean. You can't go wrong by going to Hair by Four to get your hair done. read more

I have used the same lady for 14 years and she stopped doing hair so I was hesitant to use someone new. I heard of hair by four and figured I would give it a try and omg it's great. Letti is amazing. I box dyed my hair almost black and she was able to make it blonde. It looks and feels great. I've been here twice now and found my new salon! Very good prices as well! I have come here over the years. But never again. Two weeks ago I had my hair cut by Nina. Butcher job. I asked to have my layers trimmed. I had two long layers and wanted them trimmed by 1". Nina added more layers and just chopped them in. Uneven and totally does not blend in with my hair. I should have known, though, because when I walked in, she immediately wanted to wash my hair. Without any consultation. When I said well let me show you what I want first and said I just want my layers trimmed..before I could finish my sentence she interrupted and "layers, layers, I get it." That was clue one. Second clue was she was more focused on who was coming in the door than cutting my hair. I have tried to work with this cut for 2 weeks but all I can do is let it grow out. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY, TIME AND HAIR! Wishing I would have read all of the reviews before getting my highlights here. Nina was my hairstylist today. I requested hair color, highlights and a trim. After highlights and trim, I noticed that Nina had a lot of hair in her hands as she was brushing through it, so I decided to run my fingers through my hair. Strands of my hair were loosely coming out. Thereafter... A LOT OF MY HAIR KEPT FALLING OUT. I was very concerned. I complained... a bit later she said, "Okay, you can leave." The audacity of this lady! After burning my hair, she tried to kick me out. Another stylist there tried helping me and told Nina to add toner to my hair, so my hair wouldn't keep breaking. After 10 min, Nina washed my hair with water and told me to go sit in the chair to get my hair brushed. At that moment, I was more upset. Nina had not washed my hair correctly. She expected me to go home with toner in my hair. Between all this, Nina blamed me for my hair falling out. She said I was the one who asked for lighter highlights. And while they are friendly, I appreciate they don't pry into my personal life if I'm not in a talking mood - like every other hair cut place does. I had an appointment at noon. I walked up to the front desk and waited for the person to acknowledge me so I could be checked in.... it was a kid playing. There was no receptionist. Another lady who did not have an appointment was taken back at my time by the stylist. I was never even offered anything to drink. 40 minutes after my appointment time, I left. Ledie (sp?) cut my hair here. She did pretty good! If you ask her to touch up a spot where you felt needed just a little bit more cut off, she will do it for you! She was friendly and she listens to you. The place could use a little sprucing up but it's good as is too. I went on Thursday at 1 p.m. and it wasn't too busy if that's the type of atmosphere you like. I hate feeling like I'm being rushed out the door so I liked that fact as well as getting a good haircut! I will probably go to her again for my hair needs! read more

I've been here before and I've been more than satisfied after leaving, but my most recent left me very disappointed. Nina is very bad at listening, I asked for an inch off all around, cuts off two inches, doesn't let me look in the miro to see what she's doing most the time because she left the chair positioned to where I could only look at the door.
