My young son brought his car to 5 star for repair. They gave him a quote and unfortunately he could not afford it. The said they could get used parts to install to save some him money. He agreed and they kept the car. After a few days they called and said it was ready for pick up. He came & got it and the charge was $1,100. An employee drove it around to the front of the dealer for him to take home. The employee said take it home, park it and don't drive it. "Why not drive it?" The employee said it needed a total engine rebuild. "What?" 5 star took the engine apart to diagnose the problem, which they said was a timing chain break which destroyed some of the engine. The $1,100 charge was strictly for a diagnosis not repair. They gave him the impression it was gonna be repaired since they were gonna order the parts it needed. In the beginning they never mentioned this was strictly a diagnosis. Pay attention to the language they use. Who's gonna spend a ton of money for an engine rebuild for a 2017 Hyundai with 140,000 miles? read more

Buyer Beware - Disappointed Long-Time Toyota Owner I have driven Toyota vehicles my entire life. Every Toyota I've owned has lasted over 300,000 miles. I trust the Toyota brand deeply, which is why this experience with Five Star Toyota in Aberdeen has been so disappointing. We needed a reliable vehicle for farmers markets and decided to purchase a used 2015 Toyota Sienna from Five Star Toyota. The van had been their dealership service vehicle. They had two 2015 Siennas--one still in use and one that had been parked on their lot for about three years. Before purchasing, I specifically asked for maintenance records and was provided them. The battery had died due to sitting unused and was replaced. Most importantly, Service Manager Jayson Lockett told us there were "absolutely no leaks." That assurance was critical in our decision. In hindsight, there were warning signs. The salesperson even said that if he were me, he wouldn't buy this vehicle. I assumed he was referring to cosmetic issues (scratched hood paint, cracked leather seats, peeling rubber trim, etc.). I trusted the dealership's reputation, awards on the wall, and what I believed was the integrity of a large, established business. Shortly after driving the van home (a 3-hour drive), I discovered oil leaking onto my driveway. Two independent shops confirmed two separate leaks: * Axle seal * Timing cover gasket I made multiple 6-hour round trips back to Aberdeen. They repaired the axle seal after negotiation. For the timing cover gasket, dye was added. Later I was told the leak was just a loose drain bolt from an oil change elsewhere and that it had been "fixed." I was told it only counts as a leak if oil drips to the ground -- yet when I placed cardboard under the van, it continued to drip. After three long trips and extensive communication, I negotiated directly with the owner, Allen Erickson. He agreed in writing to reimburse $1,000 as goodwill if I completed repairs locally and signed a release. After I requested the goodwill release for signature, communication stopped and I have not received the reimbursement. The timing cover gasket repair estimate is over $4,000 at the dealer and about $2,800 at an independent shop, meaning I still need to invest a significant amount out of pocket. I understand used vehicles are sold as-is, and I accept that I cannot prove the leaks existed before purchase. However, it is difficult to understand how a vehicle described as having "absolutely no leaks" developed two separate leaks immediately after I drove it home. After multiple 6-hour drives and months of communication, I no longer wish to spend more time pursuing this. I am writing this review so others in the Aberdeen community can make fully informed decisions. I trusted the dealership's reputation and assurances. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect that reputation. I hope future buyers carefully inspect any vehicle and obtain an independent inspection before purchase. read more

The loud exhaust and fumes where overwhelming. They could have given the people in the waiting area advanced notice. Very deafening and very rude. read more

The chance of losing the emergency key out of your key fob is low, but never zero. Somehow my spouse lost the key out of the fob for my RAV4. How, you ask? He dropped the fob, and the key VANISHED. Fortunately FIVE STAR in ABERDEEN, WA had a blank key they were able to cut for me, now my key fob is whole again. We have now purchased FOUR brand new Toyotas from Five Star over the last 26 years. Don't get turkey'D this holiday season or ever by this organization. Service department thrives on exploiting your extended warranty. If they don't seen an avenue for exploration you will get your vehicle back in worse condition so you have to come back. To put it simply America invented white collar crime and iLL Gotton Gains. Website comments were scrubbed at the beginning of October. I've gotten better service and professionalism from 5 guys burgers. Only my experience after I gave new ownership the benefit of my doubt. A solution could have been established, however the new ownership did not see the value in having a meeting face to face for only 30 min. In fact after leaving a dozens voice mails and emails I didn't get a call back from the owner until I disputed my payment. I was told by service manager Jason on my second return visit " my best corporate technician went through your truck front to back" turns out a $20 OPV valve was the issue. I get it an$20 valve replacement is not in 5 guys business model. The trac control light stayed on after my visit for preventative maintenance. 3 weeks ago in bad weather conditions my truck was totaled after I spun around and needed up in a ditch. Trac control issue? Maybe. Anyone else with similar stories. I known I won't put you out of business but I can control what I can control. Everyone within a three foot radius hears about my experience if the topic comes up. All I wanted was 30 min with the new ownership to figure out a solution. Those involved in my experience Technician named Grant performed a front and rear differential change and transmission flush. Grant left my truck in 4x4 and the person who picked up my truck didn't realize it until back innocean shores. Thanks Grant. I was told by Jason the service manager that he would be able to tell me exactly when 4x4 was turned on and off. After asking Jason a half dozen times for the results of of these scans his answer was your 2017 truck is too old and no results were available. WTF Jason. Fail Jason service manager. Tried to exploit my extended warranty but actually tried to have me do the dirty work. When I got my truck back to ocean shores trac lights were on check engine lights on and warning that transmission fluid was too hot. Truck would not drive. 5 guys wouldn't even come and tow my truck back in for a third time to have it looked at. Fail. If any wants to hear more details contact me directly. I am never hard to find. Again this is my experience only. Please don't try to convince me the auto industry has just all of a sudden become legit. I wish I was wrong about this a 1000 times I really really do. Okay YELPERS, seldom do I review a car dealership, like never. I love cars but not a big fan of most dealerships, franchise owners, or the newbies working in the car business. EXCEPTION, The internet sales manager Mike Flanigan, and F&I business manager David Leslie, and the crew at Aberdeen Toyota were fantastic to deal with, how did this happen? WHY READ this review: I was a GM/GSM of a high-line dealership for 14 years and loved building the marque and then consulted for a few since. I know the business and happy to have escaped an industry that has some hair on it. So, we needed a replacement vehicle and a 4Runner fit the bill for several reasons, had a trade, and wanted financing. (love the truck BTW). So jump on the internet and see what comes back, what could go wrong? !!! :D With other dealers I contacted online being exactly as I expected, horrendous scripts being force-fed by a GSM and robot CRM system, This buying experience had us driving 300 miles to transact a purchase with a trade, not an easy task but I was so amazed with Mike up a point, I became skeptical as this was a Toyota dealership. After we did the deal by text, phone, and emails, I just had a bad feeling things went way too smoothly and feared they would twist the deal once we arrived in their beautiful new dealership. I was prepared to walk out and drive back if things smelled fishy, well everything in Aberdeen smells fishy as that is what they do there in Aberdeen, they make fish and crab happen. Well my paranoia was soon gone after meeting Mike, he's honest, loves the product, excellent communication, no BS, and seems to love where he works and he works a lot. They should call themselves 3 Star Dealerships. I bought a nice used truck for $28k, but it had a few problems: -It had a shimmy around 65mph -The suspension bounced like a bucking horse on i5 (original shocks with 130k) -The tailgate backup camera was scratched and produced a useless image -It was missing a bunch of trim clips on the bumper and wheel wells -The drivers door woofer was blown -The truck only had one key with a defective fob Initially my sales rep was responsive and accommodating. They set me up with a rental, which was really nice. The service department called me to tell me my truck was ready.. but they only balanced and rotated my tires. And then they tried to charge me for it. The shimmy was still there and they failed to diagnose any other problems. I fixed most of the stuff myself and then brought it to Les Schwab for an alignment. Les Schwab fixed the shimmy that Five Star failed to solve. I'm out well over $1000 for a truck I paid too much for. The sales rep and manager both ghosted me. Five Star should have diagnosed this stuff before they sold it. Chevy truck had a recall, and 5 Star quickly fit us in. The service was excellent and QUICK. We waited in the very comfortable waiting lounge, which has a free coffee machine, TV, lots of magazines (yeah!), and very comfortable chairs. The ladies' restroom was very clean, as was the dealership in general. The dealership is easy to get to, right off 101 through Aberdeen. Five Star Toyota should be renamed to No-Star Toyota as far as their service department goes. While I have read several good reviews about the car-buying process, these are in no way indicative of my experience with their service department. My vehicle broke down and this dealership was the closest to do the repair -- and they knew it. To replace a starter on my '08 Tundra, they charged me much more than standard for labor and more for parts than other Toyota dealers sell them for. However, I had no choice but to pay because we were traveling and needed the vehicle fixed. Breaking it down, they charged me 722.60 for labor when standard labor charges for this repair at Toyota dealers should be between $455 and $575. So, either they inflated the hours or the cost per hour, or their mechanics need training or motivation to adhere to industry standards. Additionally, they charged me $549.87 for a Toyota starter when other dealers charge $361. Guess that wasn't enough profit for them though since they charged $57.45 for a manifold gasket and 25.55 for an exhaust gasket as well. Other dealers charge 26.43 and 10.68 respectively for these same genuine Toyota parts gaskets. In summary, even giving Five Star the benefit of the doubt and allowing them the highest standard labor charge of $575 for this repair, it appears that, even with a "military discount," the charges at Five Star Toyota cost me $430 more than another dealer would have charged me. read more

As experienced consumers my wife and I are mindful of the fact that where we end up purchasing a vehicle for our family of four entails ongoing contact with the dealership we buy from. Now, twice we've purchased new from dealerships during our marriage and neither experience was personable or genuine; quite the opposite actually. So two months ago, when we began our car shopping here on the Harbor, we weren't going to rush into anything. This go around, we're in complete control of the pace. The Toyota dealership in South Aberdeen has more of a large and in charge vibe going on (e.g. the pretentious sinks in their restrooms say it all, check it out for yourselves Yelpers). Mike F. has been our salesman from the start. He's been respectful, prompt, and dedicated as my wife and I have demo'd the Prius lift back, then the V, followed by the Highlander, and finally the Sienna. Mike's follow through has been pleasing as well. In conclusion, we're not only looking to buy an automobile with great resale value, safety features, exceptional fuel economy, technology and comfort--all at a 5 Star price--but we're hoping to establish a trustworthy relationship as long-term residents of a small community. read more

I dropped off my car at 8:30a and said I would like to pick back up at 3:45p. When I returned the service rep couldn't find my paperwork. Once he did find it he went to the floor to see what the status was. He found out the car hadn't been worked on and gave no time frame for when it would be completed. I needed my car so I asked could they at least put air in the flat tire so I could rive home? This just isn't a level of service I expected from 5 Star, especially since I bought the car from them a year ago. No apology for the situation, no reason given, no reason to go back. read more

My husband was rear ended in February, by a full size Econoline van, smashing the bumper and leaving our truck making a horrible screeching sound. We took the truck into 5 star Toyota in Aberdeen, explained the situation, and had one of their mechanics look the truck over. We were given a printout stating that the leaf spring assembly had been damaged in the accident. After submitting the printout to our insurance company, Geico, we were informed that they would need to speak with the mechanic personally, before agreeing to make the necessary repairs. After speaking with Geico, the mechanic completely changed his story, stating he wasn't aware insurance was involved, which was a lie, leaving us with a damaged truck that Geico is now refusing to fix. I had used the shop for my regular maintenance until I bought a vehicle that ended up needing a new engine and eventually a transmission as well! I got a hold of Gale at 5 star to find a shop for my engine repair and he suggested I have them do it :) He got right on the ball finding me a slightly used engine/ rebuilt for a great price and the same went for the professionalism I experienced when I returned shortly thereafter for an aftermarket trans. I hate car shopping but found the exact vehicle I wanted and it was located here at Five Star in Aberdeen. I live in Kent and don't have the greatest credit so was hesitant to drive all the way to Aberdeen to be told "no." They took my credit info over the phone and told me I was approved. My payments would be a little higher than I'd wanted but I only needed $500 down.....for a 2013 Honda CR-Z! I still owed $8200 on my 2008 Mustang and they gave me $6500 for it! I drove into the lot and they had everything ready to go for me. I even got lost and they came to meet me. VERY pleasant staff and LEGIT! I got such a great deal, I'll be bragging for weeks to come! The same car at Honda of Fife (a year newer in Fife) was $10K more and they wanted $8K down! They even extended the warranty until the end of my loan! The atmosphere at Five Star was very clean, very friendly and very modern. I loved it! They treated me like royalty and I would advise anyone I know to shop there! This is a follow up to my previous review regarding a less than favorable visit to the Toyota Dealership in Aberdeen on November 10th this year. That earlier visit include an extensive and expensive service including replacing tires all around and some issues discovered the next couple of days involving damage to a rim and failed pressure sensor. Before I could get back to them the service manager, Jason contacted me about returning the vehicle to inspect they work. I took my Prius back in on December 1 and we reviewed my issues. Incidentally the Coffee machine was now repaired and available in the customer waiting area and I was impressed with the quality of the products available in the new automated coffee service. Anyway, as a result of our discussion Jason had the tires removed, all of the (very expensive) pressure sensors checked, the bad sensor identified and replaced for the cost of the replacement sensor only which was very helpful when you're retired and live on a fixed income. Five Star motors certainly earned their name for us. I was looking for a very specific truck for my wife. Needed the right color, style, and options. I started talking to Mark and he said they didn't have it but would get it. They went out of their way to find the vehicle and have it ready within a day for us to look at and take home. Pricing was well below what we found locally and far below Seattle. It was worth the drive. We were in and out faster than I've ever experienced. We are super picky because we figure if we're buying a new car, we should be able to get what we want. All three of the people I worked with at 5 Star were truly 5 star. My husband and I were on vacation in Ocean Shores when we decided to pop in and check out a Chevy Traverse we'd had our eye on for awhile. Mark was our sales rep, and he was super laid back and easy going, letting us test drive the car by ourselves, and even letting us take it to lunch! We had a pre-approval letter from the bank, but they ended up beating those numbers. They were willing to barter with us. Horrible salespeople everytime we went there, wanted to "shop the harbor first" but with the way we were treated we ended up going out of town to buy our car. They wouldn't leave us alone to look around and when we finally decided on a car they wanted to charge sticker price and were unwilling to negotiate a fare deal. When I went there with my wife(who the car was for) they said "Why don't you send the wife home and we can talk business". The sales team were great to me and I'm quite happy with the car. But - the finance guy flat lied to me trying to hard sell me one of those useless extended warranties. He pushed very very hard for it despite my firmly NOT wanting to blow a couple extra thousand on it. I purposely asked about the current warranty and he said there is none - I questioned this and got him to look it up to be sure. Answer was it expired about 6 months ago. I asked are you sure? - it's a 2010 car and it's 2013 - answer, no it was delivered to us October of 2009 and it started then. I called Toyota customer care about something else and mentioned it, and was told your warranty is good until May 2013 and it didn't start until the car was delivered to the first titled owner. As a professional this guy knew that. Despite being asked more than once if he was sure - he stuck by his story and told me I was driving out of there with no warranty - and it was a lie.. No mincing words - he lied to try to milk a couple extra thousand out of the deal. Sorry...sad but true. Watch out for this. It kinda spoiled what otherwise would have been a happy purchase. read more
