Great atmosphere and service, but Salad was limp, over dressed and strawberries were warm. A bit disappointing.

Second time I have eaten here when I have been in town. I have found it wonderful both times. This time I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very attentive and friendly. The Beef Teriyaki soup was amazing! I had the smoked pork chops this time and they may have been among the best I have ever tasted. Two thick pork chops with a potato mixture below.. delicious! The service here has definitely improved since my last visit when the restaurant just opened. There is about a ~15-20 minute wait to be seated during dinner hours. The food is hit or miss, though definitely better than my first visit last year. We had hummus and spinach and artichoke dip. The hummus was very disappointing, with a bland flavor and thick texture. The spinach and artichoke dip was lacking in flavor. My entree, a spicy rose fettuccine, was notably better and made up for the start of the meal. One of my main complaints would be the inappropriate timing of food and wait. The appetizers took a while to come out, and when they did, we were served our entree at the same time. By the time I got to my entree, it was slightly cold and much less enjoyable. Overall, while the ambiance is nice, the noise level of the restaurant and large booths make it difficult to carry a conversation easily. Five West certainly has gotten better since it opened, but there is room to improve in its serving of dishes and overall food. It is not worth the wait, and I won't be back unless friends want to make the trip. read more

Stopped by for brunch with some friends and loved everything about it! When we first pulled in to the parking lot, the outside patio stole my attention. It seems like a great place to grab drinks for date night or a night out with friends. When we got inside the chic decor drew me in and had me excited to order brunch. We ordered mimosas, a Bloody Mary, waffle, and breakfast burrito. All of which were consumed quickly and satisfactorily. I highly recommend if you are in the area and craving brunch. read more

Got to say, one of my favorite spots...great wait staff, the waiter we had could recite all the dressings, the ingredients, and probably the quantity..lolol. I loooooooove the breakfest also, ordered the burrito. The cheese they use makes it a tad sweet and it works....YUM!!! Cannot understand how all the reviews have missed the dessert. Had a great dinner of Jerk Mahi Mahi with a nice Martini. Paused on the dessert menu and then went and ordered the Rocky Road. Holy cow add this to your Bucket List. Came on a tray about 14" long with three outstanding light tan brownies (not dark chocolate) topped with marshmallow (Toasted) and then two huge scoops of very good ice cream. Found Five West while driving around for fun while staying at the Mayo Clinic. We went as an early Valentine's Day dinner and loved it! He had a burger, which he said was awesome, and I had the appetizer buffalo wontons as my meal and they were delicious! Definitely recommend this place as a must for those visiting Rochester. We stopped in tonight and the service was fast and very good. The food was prompt with a nice presentation and exceptional flavor and textures. Very pleased with our visit. Thank you for an enjoyable and relaxing dinner for a change!!! I had the blackened chicken avacado melt with sweet potato fries. The chicken was moist and tender with a very nice kick. The avacados were tender and cool which played nicely. The sweet potato fries were hot and fresh with a nice robust taste. My husband had the Tuna burger. The tuna was done to a perfect med rare covered with cucumber and pickled ginger with a wisabi aioli. The only way to improve this one is to go easy on the ginger. Best restaurant in Rochester hands down! Amazing atmosphere, great food, awesome wait staff. Have been multiple times during our visit we loved it so much! There's plenty of gluten free options. They have a wicked good breakfast, and a menu that makes you want to try it all.. or at least almost all of it. One person in our group ordered the pizza (he loved it) and it came out a little later than the other two entrees. It wasn't an issue to us, but they kept us informed about the delay in the kitchen and even offered a free dessert. AMAZING customer service, we tried the drunken blondie and oh my! we would go back just for that dessert even if the rest of the menu wasn't exceptional. This should be on everyone's list; visiting or local. Other greats we tried: 1. the chicken fettuccine (not as cheesy as an Alfredo, but hearty and tasty) 2. the chicken herb nachos (gluten free and HUGE, one of the best nachos I've ever ordered, all the toppings were proportioned well throughout and the taste was to die for) 3. The chicken and wild rice soup (smaller but don't let it fool you, it's tasty and filling!) 4. This place is liked for the wrong thing--quantity, not quality. Overall, the food is marginal at best. I'm working on some probability tables to show what entree is least likely to be screwed up. I think the lowest will be around 25% - 30% with the highest around 95%. A good rule of thumb is to only order entrees with with the fewest parts, e.g., an omelet and toast. Granted, they do not know how to make toast here, but there is a 75% chance the omelet will be OK. In Rochester, one has to become adept at working the probabilities, just like in Vegas. read more

I went to Five West Saturday. Overall I was happy with the experience. I had the almond cherry salad, and added chicken to that. The maple dressing was really good; not overpowering so someone who isn't a fan of maple may like it. The waitstaff is good, and they made sure I didn't run out of water. read more

I was extremely disappointed with the food. I had the Almond Cherry salad with shrimp added. The salad was essentially mixed spring greens dumped out if a bag with some chopped apples and cherries added. The dressing was flavorless and the salad was bland. The shrimp I ordered go an additional 10.00 were baby shrimp, overcooked. The shrimp were seasoned so intensely that the only thing I tasted was the seasoning. Without question I could have thrown this salad together at home in 10 minutes and it would have had some kind of flavor profile. 22.00 for a bad salad. im happy to pay 22.00 for a salad if it's good. This was uneventful. I will not return to Five West. It has the ambiance and the menu that is representative of a fine dining establishment but it clearly is not. I love that they allow dogs on their outside seating and that they have a wonderful view of a pond and green grass but the service is kind of slow to be seated and to be served. The food is really inspirational like the roast beef is great and so is the waffle marshmallow chocolate thing but it's a little unhealthy. Met a girlfriend for lunch. Nice atmosphere. Wasn't too loud that we couldn't talk (1:00). Good server. Decided to try the Risotto and it did NOT disappoint. Loved how they prepared it with soft cooked cherry tomatoes, halved; along with cooked spinach and sliced red pepper. Nicely done. Definitely has me wanting to come back for it again or try out another menu item! Con: Parking lot is lined for small cars, way too crammed. Beautiful setting in northwest Rochester. I came in after a long day of work. I Was immediately greeted and sat at the bar. The bartender was prompt to get me a cold beer. I looked over the menu and had some trouble deciding as everything looked good. Although I am gluten free they had plenty options. I decided to cheat a little and ordered the firecracker burger and a side of szhezuan cauliflower. I ordered my burger without cheese. The plated looked like something was off. It was the wrong order. Before I could say anything the bartender caught the fact that the expeditor brought me the wrong burger. Quickly my order was corrected. The new plate of food was hot and fresh. And the szhezuan cauliflower was the bomb, sweet with a little spice. Overall satisfied. Thanks read more

I went to Five west on a whim, as its the new fun thing on town. I went for breakfast as the night before they did not have any reservations for the evening. When I got in I was greeted right away and shown to a table. I ordered the Cajun Benedict and it was good, it wasn't as spicy as I would have liked but all and all very good. The hash browns were my only real qualm they seemed very bland with out the crunch... All and all they did enough for me to want to come back for dinner, although I think I will wait until the new factor wears off. read more

My husband and I shared the Calamari which had a nice spiciness to it. I had the Spicy Rose Fettuccine. I had to put a lil salt and pepper on it. My husband had the Five West Stack sandwich with fries. The sandwich had so much flavor! The fries I wasn't crazy about. The peel was on and they seemed a lil overdone. Five West was a great place for dinner on a Sunday date night. We shared the calamari appetizer, which was spicy and well portioned. My boyfriend had the tuna burger, which was tasty, but suffered somewhat from too much bun. I had the pumpkin seed crusted walleye, which was delicious. The fish was moist and the polenta was some of the best I have had. We shared the drunken blondie dessert a la mode, which was deliciously rich. The highlight of our visit, though, was our server, Kayleigh, who was an absolute delight throughout the meal. She provided excellent service and was so friendly! We've had breakfast/brunch and lunch here. The space is beautiful and very open with high exposed ceilings. There is a nice outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. The prices are a little high, especially for breakfast, but the food is good and service is usually prompt. read more
