This restaurant is a must. It's more on par with twin Cities restaurants and offers more unique flavors than most restaurants in Rochester. I wish they were closer to 100% made from scratch, but they do a good job. The space is really cool and even though I went in the winter, their summer patio would be fun. Five West has delicious food and craft cocktails. It's consistently good with great service. We like to sit at the bar which is very uncomfortable here. No backs on the stools. So if you want to enjoy your food and expensive drinks in comfort, don't come here. read more

A more expensive version of the Loop. Literally everything on the menu is the same or "enhanced". A $5 mac n' cheese triples in price here, and maybe bacon is added. A different dish? Hardly! Food is average / good, as is service. It's overall nothing special but also not bad. read more

The buffalo chicken wontons and lettuce wraps were very good and the chicken pesto pizza.....was good but not all the ingredients were distributed around the entire pizza so those bits just made it so- so. Yummy drinks, beautiful patio, great service, and best of all, they allow dogs on the patio! I've never brought my dog to a restaurant patio before, but felt really welcomed by the servers/hostess. My dog was served a paw-shaped doggy bowl of water right away. I had the blackened chicken caesar wrap with garlic fries (both good). My friend ordered the chicken nachos; the chips had way too much ranch seasoning (making much of the huge platter inedible - minus one star). Excellent food. I'd encourage reservations, we had to wait Friday, but it was worth it. The menu has unique items and the servings are large. The atmosphere is modern and open lots of windows. This has become a great go to for my girlfriend and I. The ambiance is very chic but not super pretentious, the service is great, and the food is tasty. They also give you ALOT of it. One occasion I ordered the House Smoked Beef Short Rib, thinking it would be sizable, but reasonable amount of meat on a bone. What I got what an insane amount of meat on 3 bones! That makes me a happy man. I rarely bring home leftovers, but I had to with that. I also tried their pork chops which are juicy and lightly smoked. The burgers are great with unique toppings. The pizza is awesome (anytime indeed mac and cheese on a pizza I cant help but be excited). And even the desserts are great! They have rotating cheesecake flavors and they are all delicious. The best part is that for the amount of food you get, the prices are pretty reasonable. This is not an every day sort of place, but for a semi frequent and casual date night this place is great. Ok food, nothing special and a little pricey. We were there for a late lunch on a weekday and it was not at all busy. The hostess wanted to put us in a sunny location on a warm afternoon and we asked to be put in the shade. Her response was to hand us the menus and she told us to sit anywhere we want and then she turned her back on us and walked away! So they need to work on customer service skills a bit. I gave this place two chances and I regret it now.. The first time, I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs.. They couldn't even microwave it correctly... Ice cold in the center. This was a dead giveaway that they just take prepackaged food out of a box, slap it on a plate and throw it in the microwave.. Come on Five West. If you're going to nuke your food then do it right. A few months later I thought I'd give them a second chance and order a burger. How could they screw that up? Started with the calamari appetizer which tasted OK, but it was room temperature, not hot as I'd expect fried calamari to be.. Then the burger. Again, it was room temperature and it was worse than the cold chicken fried steak. The bun was weird and had a bad texture. The meat was obviously frozen pre-formed patties out of a bag. Like the kind taken out of a Wal-Mart Freezer case. The tomatoes were nasty and soggy. The lettuce was limp and slimey. Even the bacon tasted strange. I actually felt a bit nauseous halfway through this burger and had to force myself to finish it, after peeling off the decomposing tomato. I didn't complain to the staff as both times I was eating on a timeline and didn't have time to wait around for them to remake my food. If you want a good burger in Rochester MN, I recommend Culvers, or Hy-Vee Market Grill just down the street. read more

Horrible service and rude staff. Asked for a booth this evening and was told we had to have a larger party for a booth. My husband has a bad back, their reply was "sorry!" I have been to Five West a few times and every time I've had a wonderful experience. The environment is my favorite of any restaurant in Rochester, I think it is a good example of how the city is expanding and becoming more hip! The blonde brownie I pretty much crave every day it was so delicious. (Dessert first!) I highly recommend the Carmel Apple martini and their tap beers are on point. In my opinion the buffalo chicken wontons & nachos take home the appetizer menu and you won't be disappointed with the salmon main entry dish. Five West is my new go to restaurant! I have been there a handful of times and every time, I have been more than impressed with the service, my meal and the wonderful atmosphere! Might I add the beautiful patio that makes this place top notch! I love the location of the restaurant, as it is located in a great part of town that is continually growing! I have tried a variety of things off the menu from the burger to the fish tacos and I can't forget to add the amazing nachos! It was all delicious! Of course I couldn't leave without trying dessert. The chocolate chip cookies are spectacular. They come out warm, fresh from the oven with a side of ice cream that hits the spot! I also have to mention that I brought my two young children with and the kids menu is great! They loved the chicken tenders and the Mac and cheese. I really liked that they had real high chairs! Really happy to have this style of restaurant open in Rochester. I have been here 4 times in the last month and have liked every drink, appetizer, entree and dessert so far. The first time I went to Five West I ordered the risotto with chicken and was disappointed in how uncooked my risotto was. They were *very* apologetic and brought back my plate cooked longer but still slightly undercooked. Bummer! I decided to give them another shot last night, this time opting for the Chicken and Avocado Melt with sweet potato fries... Delicious! My friend ordered the risotto and said she liked it...so I must've caught them previously on a bad day. Otherwise the food is tasty, the ambiance is a perfect blend of industrial and hipster, and the service is top notch. I would go there again. read more

Our waitress was friendly and helpful, but she didn't bring any change back when we paid with cash, thereby giving herself about a 35% tip. GORGEOUS building and atmosphere! We've only eaten brunch here, but it was great and portions were HUGE! For 2 of us, with large breakfast meals, a coffee, and a screwdriver, I think the total bill was about $25, which I thought was very reasonable. I was in town for work and decided to try this place, based on reviews. So happy with my choice! Decent selection of beers on tap and bottled beer. I always like to drink local when I travel so having Surly on tap was perfect for me. I had the flank steak salad and it was one of the tastiest salads I've ever had. The balance of the balsamic vinegar with the steak, potatoes, Parmesan, and arugula was so yummy. I wish I lived around here because I would become a regular here just because of this salad!
