It is hidden on the right side as you enter the hotel entrance. Ambiance: The restaurant is huge and nicely decorated. Great ambiance for group setting or venue use! Parking: There is free parking underground. Entrance is on the backside of the hotel. Free 3 hours validation! Service: BIG SHOUT OUT Roxana, the server. She was very attentive and friendly! Food Bites: I thought EVERYTHING was delicious. The food pricing and amount was so reasonable! We were so full walking out! I came here with some friends for happy hour, which runs from 4-6pm Monday to Friday. The prices in happy hour are fairly decent - $10 cocktails, $10 smashed cheeseburger, $10 6pc wings, etc. We personally got the smashed cheeseburger sub garlic parmesan fries ($1 extra), truffle honey sweet potato fries, and 6pc wings for food, and we each got a cocktail. I personally tried the Japanese Old Fashioned which is pretty solid - a bit on the stronger side. I really enjoyed the smashed cheeseburger as the patty is very juicy and the sauce is great, but the buns were a bit on the soggier side. The wings were okay - we got the sweet & spicy Thai chili but the wings were on the slightly drier side. However, the fries were amazing. It was probably air fried(?) since I did not feel heavy or stuffed afterwards, which normally is the case after eating even a tiny bit of fries. The garlic parmesan flavor is very apparent - especially the garlic! I also really enjoyed the sweet potato fries as there is a nice hint of truffle flavor and it is actually quite sweet with the honey. Service is good as they make sure you get the full opportunity to order from the happy hour menu, reminding us about last call for HH pricing, etc. One slight miss is that they never refilled our waters when we were running low. Overall, this is a decent, affordable HH spot in Monterey Park with great ambience, located in the Courtyard by Marriott. This place is a go to for me since it's near home. Tonight's experience was very poor. First the server took long to come announce themself. After placing our order, which were four dishes, everything did not come together. Our 2 burgers came like 15 minutes after placing, followed by the pizza 10 minutes afterwards. The last item we ordered was the bulgogi bowl which took very long to come out. About 40 minutes after placing. The server not once came to check up on us, we had to wave him down when we were missing the pizza and Bulgogi bowl. Then had to wave a second time for the bulgogi. The server explained that it may have got dropped off to a different table. The manager neither stopped by to apologize about the incident which you would think if the server didn't. I'm not one to ask for things to be comp but we didn't even get the bulgogi taken off our bill. Lastly we get asked to move by the server because someone had reserved the table plus 2 others near ours. Like our last item came late, so my wife ate her food last while feeding my son. We stopped in last night for a nightcap, which was one night after attending a Yelp Elite event here. We arrived at 10:15 PM and were immediately told that "last call" was going to be in 15 minutes. All of the signage and everything online states that they are open until midnight. When we inquired as to why, we were told that the chefs had come in early, and they are only able to work so many hours, so they had to close early. Not sure if that makes sense. It was a Friday night, and the place was pretty busy, and this is inside the hotel. Could they have not left the bar portion open and just not served food? DRINKS: I was so impressed the night before by their Japanese Old Fashioned that I ordered one again. My wife and mother-in-law ordered the Espresso Martinis. The martinis came out in non-martini glasses, and the Old Fashioned was missing the Luxardo cherry, as they were presented to the Yelp Elites the evening before. Again, I asked why and was told that only the regular Old Fashioned is served with the cherry. They did end up bringing out a couple cherries to appease me, and the drinks were flavorful. This Courtyard by Marriott has a luxury décor. It's easy to get to and easier to find parking (3 hours comped) in their well-lit, large spaces, underground garage. The hotel itself was beautiful and the FIVE55 venue is very nice. There's a large bar with plenty of bar area seating, as well as areas for dining in a slightly quieter atmosphere, even a "private" room with drawn curtains. They have a very nice selection of bar bites, but we didn't try anything this visit. Overall, I was a little disappointed in the follow-up experience to the awesome time we had at the Yelp Elite event. The only downside to my experience was I asked for sour cream for my quesadilla and the bus boy that I asked took way too long to bring the sour cream bringing it the same time the check came. Outside of street parking, there is the "1-hour" Marriott parking and then minimum $6.00 underground parking... no thanks. I ended up parking at nearby plazas (I didn't know that Five55 was inside the Marriott.) and walking over. We ordered the Truffle & Parmesan Fries to share, and I ordered the Apricot Daiqiri for myself. I'm not the biggest fan of alcohol, but I have to admit this one went down smooth - a little too smooth. It didn't look like a lot, but I know 15 minutes in I was out. What's nice about Five55 is they have a calmer ambiance and board games (Scrabble, Jenga, Apples to Apples - to name a few) that cater to anyone. The Truffle & Parmesan fries were quite disappointing; they weren't too soggy or crispy and were alright. They were fairly plain, and most of the truffle and parmesan fell to the bottom of the bowl. For most of the bowl, we ate plain fries with subtle truffle tastes, while most of the seasoning at the bottom was too salty to eat. Holy smokes this place is BOMB! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the bar tender. Got seated right away, and the server showed up right after with water and and menus. Everyone there is super friendly, and always asking if you need anything. And, to top that, the food is delicious. I went with my friend who got the Caesar salad (also not on HH menu) and an old fashion. First, when they brought our food, they didn't bring us any utensils which isn't a big deal for me, but my friend would be a real sight to see for her salad if she went sans utensils. She asked for a fork and knife and they brought her two forks (?). Then when I bit into my burger I realized they forgot to put onions on it. I didn't want to waste the burger so I just ate it but it really was just ok. My friend enjoyed her old fashion but we were pretty underwhelmed by the food. I don't plan on coming back. My favorite was the Japanese old fashioned! HH food is pretty decent too, with items like wagyu hot dogs, burgers, and truffle fries on the menu. For those who think $5.55 is expensive, l for a hot dog, you've never tried a dirty dog after a late night in DTLA. Trust me, those are worth every penny and this hot dog is made of Waygu! Came to this place for happy hour on a Friday, although they disappointingly don't have HH on Friday through Sunday. The cocktails here were quite good, even if selection is a little small. I haven't tried the beers but I imagine their taste is probably normal as expected, but the pricing is fortunately quite decent as well. Their food menu is quite limiting though; I'm surprised that there's no fries at all anywhere! The service was top notch, with people coming in to check on us for water refills or additional orders. The interior is very clean with windows providing lots of sunlight, and if there's a sports game on, then the patrons get quite energetic! Five55 is a new bar and restaurant located inside the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Monterey Park (right off the 10 freeway across from Atlantic Times Square). Several coworkers (myself included) expressed excitement for their $5.55 happy hour menu, and we decided to stop by for some food and drinks. Right now, happy hour is only Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4PM - 6PM. The dining area is fairly large with spread out tables, seats at the bar, even a smaller enclosed room. A good amount of TVs throughout the restaurant. Because the restaurant just opened, they're still in their soft opening and working out the kinks of running the restaurant. We arrived midway into happy hour on a weekday, and there seemed to be just one server taking the orders for all the guests. Had some trouble flagging down people and asking about dishes and we weren't able to order all that we wanted due to limited staff, but overall - it was a pretty satisfying happy hour. All the items on their happy hour menu are $5.55 (reflecting the address of the hotel), but you're also able to order from the soft opening menu. For the drinks, I recommend the Japanese Old Fashioned. They don't skimp on alcohol, and the drink was pretty strong in my opinion. Super smooth and not entirely bitter. The champagne spritzer was alright. If you like sweeter, more syrupy drinks, I think you'll enjoy this. I thought it was too heavy on the strawberry coulis. Would definitely get a margarita next time. We tried all the items from the small plates - would highly recommend the truffle mac & cheese and the cheeseburger. I don't normally enjoy mac and cheese, but the 3-cheese blend that Five55 uses is more elevated than the normal American cheese. Was super rich and had roasted mushrooms and bread crumbs and wasn't overtly cheesy. For their cheeseburger, we originally thought there were 2 small cheeseburgers, but it's actually one burger with 2 patties along with cheese, pickles, onions, lettuce, and sauce. It's not super special, but I did enjoy the potato bun that came with the burger. The house salad was alright. I really love gorgonzola cheese, so those cheese pieces along with the craisins and pecans were super tasty. But I felt that the salad was overdressed. Having super wet arugula isn't the tastiest thing, so unfortunately didn't enjoy this too much. The wagyu hot dog was interesting. If I didn't know that it was made of wagyu beef, I probably would have assumed it was a regular hot dog. Nothing special about it - we felt like the polish hot dog from Costco was tastier (and cheaper). The appetizers - highly recommend the truffle and sweet potato fries. I enjoyed the sweet potato fries more, just because they were cut thinner so the fries were a little crispier and had that candied taste from the truffle honey. Truffle fries were pretty good, too. There wasn't too much parmesan and truffle zest to cover all the fries, but who doesn't love potatoes that are fried? Crispy cauliflower was a miss for me. If you enjoy eating orange chicken, I would say that this was a healthy version of that dish. When this was brought out to us, the server announced that it was chicken, which made us all shake our heads because none of us had ordered chicken. She clarified with another worker - turns out it was the cauliflower. I didn't enjoy the sauce and the outside breading tasted kind of strange - almost stale as if it had come from the freezer. Overall wasn't a fan and wouldn't order this again. And of course, we had to get a dessert to try. The chocolate lava cake sounded pretty delicious. More of a mini lava cake fit for one person. Don't think the name "lava" is appropriate as nothing flowed out once we cut into it. And when another friend visited another day, the same thing happened with her cake. The chocolate cake is super rich and more on the decadent side. Eating a bite of the cake with the mascarpone whip cream helped to add some sweetness. tl;dr - Overall, felt like Five55's happy hour was a good deal. Definitely a nice place to relax with some drinks and enjoy some food while catching up with a friend. And because they just opened, everything still has that newness tint to it. I've heard their mushroom flatbread is pretty good, so will likely return to try some other items in the near future. There's a small parking lot located alongside the left of the hotel as well as street parking or the garage across the street. read more

We visited here on Friday, April 21 at about 5:00pm with our party of two. The whole experience was kind of a disappointment. First of all, I will say that the hostess outside the restaurant is just a wonderful and lovely person, with the most amazing personality. The restaurant itself is also very modern and lovely. We are local, and we decided to come here on Friday afternoon for Happy Hour. We called just one week prior and they told us that Happy Hour is Monday - Friday 4pm to 6pm. When we arrived, they told us that they stopped Friday happy hour "months ago". Clearly, someone has no idea what they are talking about. We decided to stay anyway. We had two drinks that we enjoyed. I had the Lychee Margarita. I also ordered the smash burger. The smash burger was rather disappointing. It comes with only the burger, no side at all. Second, although it was tasty, I feel like I could have gotten the equivalent at McDonald's for $2.99. It was nothing more than what you would have received from them, and it looked kind of pathetic on the plate. My Husband had the fish tacos, which he enjoyed and we shared the brussel sprouts which were pretty good as well. This hotel is not in Santa Monica, the heart of Hollywood or Venice Beach -- it would be wise to make your Happy Hour to include Fridays and frankly even Saturday and Sunday, in order to draw in more locals. If you depend on only the hotel guests, particularly with a restaurant of this size, I don't see you making it. read more

Wanted to check out the beautiful new hotel in MPK and take advantage of their happy hour specials. Pros: Drinks are good Food is good Cons: Service Service was slow. I had to ask for refill of my water and had to chase down someone to get the bill. Seemed like the servers were more attentive to hotel guests than locals stopping by. read more
