My friend suggested this place because I was craving breakfast and thanks to him now know of this amazing spot in town...the vibe of this place has history and is in split between a sports dive bar & breakfast/lunch bar. There are both bar seats on each side and a few booths available. We got there just in time to have their steak and eggs & POZOLE...and both were delicious. Visited this place on a Saturday night to get some drinks with my sister and our boyfriends. While the guys went to the bar, my sister and I went to use the restroom as we stepped out a heavy set man with white hair almost with a flat top type of hair cut told my sister and I that we needed to leave. I explained to him that we were already ID and buying drinks. He stepped closer to my face and yelled we needed to leave. Mind you this man is 300 pounds and I'm not 1/3 of his size. Everyone knows each other, it's kinda crazy. The atmosphere is very inviting. Old school music plays as drinks are served. Amy the bartender does a fabulous job, taking care of everyones wants. First I skeptical about this drive bar in the city of Alhambra it just a bar and across the street is Fosselman's ice cream shop,hey you can your beer,burger and dessert just across the street good that's a good idea. My wife and I with her cousin went to Jay-Dee's for drinks and tryout the food,when we step in the bar it looks like a seen from a movie and t.v show and decor amazing thing collected from past that keep Jay-Dee's alive and bring like the old and young this local hang out stop. This menu was really simple. I decided to get the wings to try them out and my wife order the BLT it comes with fries and her cousin order the chili cheese fries. I got Goose Island beer for $5 not bad this probably our new hangout spot. We got our food looks very good my wings looks temping delicious one bite amazing good I enjoy them. My wife enjoy her BLT but she eat half of BLT and she give her other half but it was really good. I have been coming to this place for many many years and recently went back to meet friends for lunch. I ordered a cheeseburger which came with grilled onions and of course I asked for raw as well. I love onions! This burger was delicious it was so big and juicy, I could only eat half of it. The burger came with an order of fries which were nice and crispy. My friend had the steak sandwich and was very delighted with it. I will be back again soon to try other things on the menu. I highly recommend trying JD's for lunch! read more

So after having a long & stressful week at work, I mentioned to my coworker that I heard of a bar that does karaoke on Sunday nights. After having sushi for dinner at Tomomi's, we decided to check out Jay Dee's to get a drink and enjoy the live music. As I went inside the bar, I immediately knew we were going to have an interesting time because I was wearing my Atlanta Braves cap right after they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers. We were immediately asked to show our vaccine record which surprised us, but we were cool and provided our proof. Then, we found a table and ordered our drinks. After finishing them, the bartender notified us they only accepted cash! Ok, now I don't know for to feel about the bar until an older Dodgers fan came up to me and asked why I was wearing a Braves cap. After talking to the gentleman for a few minutes, my coworker and I started enjoying ourselves and decided to do some karaoke. I was so nervous but I didn't care. Is it satisfying to scratch a deep-seated itch? I think the best answer is, "It depends." I have lived in Alhambra tor over 6 years and driven by Jay-Dee a million times, always curious about the inside. With Mrs. C out of town on business, I thought solo dining was the safest way for me to give this place a try. At a relatively early 5:30pm on Saturday, the place was already packed! And I think I encountered a first for me: I was the only Asian at a business establishment in Alhambra! Annette's beautiful photography of the patty melt narrowed down my ordering, and just for fun I got a soup and an iced tea. Service was a tad slow, but only because there appeared to be one server for a room full of people, so I definitely cut her some slack. The food arrived pretty quickly, and I liked the overall taste, especially how the white onions had been sauteed to remove any harshness, while still preserving the flavor. I would have preferred a more buttery grilled kind of bread rather than toasted, but the chef probably saved me a bunch of calories anyway. The decor is distinctly old school, complete with a jukebox pumping 80s music and vinyl records scattered on the walls. For solo dining, it's a tough call between Jay-Dee vs. Gus's in South Pas, but at least I can now say, "Jay-Dee? Oh yeah, I've been there." read more

I went with my mom to catch the Free Wing band playing on Saturday night. This is definitely a locals dive bar. My mom told me stories of how her dad used to go there all the time. We got there much earlier than the band's start time, so we ordered some food and drinks. The guy working the bar earlier in the evening was cool and casual. The woman working behind the bar later off was a bit cold shoulder-y. We were pretty much just doing soda and then Jack on the rocks, so nothing complicated and nothing was bad. The vibe in the bar was interesting. Lots of history adorns the walls. There's a decent sized parking lot in the back, but it did appear to fill up as the night went on. The Free Wing band was superb, and I surprised my mom when I mentioned that I remembered pretty much all of the lyrics for the cover songs. I would really go see them play again (bit of a drive for me, so perhaps not too soon). The kitchen lady was nice and helpful. We ordered the Nachos Supreme, the BBQ chicken wings, and a chicken burrito. The nachos were some of the best that I've had in a bar. The steak on it was tender and plentiful, and there were so many other glorious and fresh toppings. The BBQ wings were surprisingly decent. These were fried to a perfect crisp, and the BBQ sauce didn't make it soggy at all. The wings are a definitely plus for food while drinking (albeit messy). The chicken burrito was spicy! Thank goodness there was a bit of A/C blowing or that would have given me a bit of the sweats. Overall, the food was okay. The menu was limited, so that was kind of an inconvenience. Nothing on the menu in regards to a salad, and I was kind of hoping to see something along the lines of mozzarella sticks, but no. I can see why this place has been around for as long as it has, and *if* I was a local, I could possibly end up here at least once a week. read more
