It was relief when they said it was no problem I could pick it up when I got back. I received regular text messages updating me on the progress, and when I finally returned for my car it looked like nothing happened to it. James was super nice. His calm vibe helped me move on from the upset of the car damage. Syncing up with the insurance company went smoothly. They're very organized and follow up on every detail. Their reception area is immaculate with comfortable chairs, coffee, water, a rack of free shopping bags from AAA, and a knowledgeable office manager. Now all they need is a wine bar and a psychotherapist to help you get over the pain of paying your out-of-pocket insurance deductible. Ouch. Yes, you could have taken that trip to Hawaii but instead you're giving it to Fix Auto to repair your car. My accident happened on 29 Nov 2021. I then took my car to Fix Auto at the suggestion of my USAA insurance. Jorge wrote up my estimate and off I went. It was on February 25th I got a call from Fix saying the parts were in so I scheduled the repair. Then an email saying the same thing. Then a third contact asked to schedule the repair. I asked why three contacts for this and was told "Oh, no one put it in the system." Great efficiency. Upon taking my car in Enterprise came to pick me up and with Jacob, all was going smooth. Then, at last, a call saying my car was ready. I stop working on my Ukraine project dashed down to FIX and see that they had not repaired one area on my car. Jorge told me it was not black so they didn't repair it. In the back of the shop he showed me pictures of the damage but I refused to take my car, called USAA again, and then agreed it should have been repaired. That was a Wednesday and by Friday with no call I left for a doctor's appointment telling USAA again I would pick my car up at 9:00 Saturday morning. Monday with no response from FIX I called USAA telling them I want my car only to learn from them my car was ready on Friday. MY phone record shows they never called me to say this. I go back on Monday only to find the last part repaired was not attached to my car. So after the fourth visit, it FIX my car was ready only taking far longer than it should and I have advised USAA that FIX is the worst business I have ever been referred to. My car was hit, and I was given a list of body shops from AAA to get the work done. I chose this place as it was the closest, but I shouldn't have assumed that just because they are AAA approved that I would be pleased with the work or their customer service. Javier threatened to hold my car hostage unless I paid for the work that was supposed to be paid by the other person's insurance company. When I complained to the owner, he told me that I should have had my insurance pay for it. He did not change his mind until I threatened to report this to AAA. The new pinstriping was uneven with the existing pinstriping. I took it back, and they told me that they outsource their pinstriping work to someone who is not AAA approved, and I would have to make an appointment with that person to get it fixed. This would have been a huge inconvenience, so it never got fixed. I also found out that they outsource their alignment work to another shop that is not AAA approved, and I would have to go there for any issues. They removed the interior door panel, and, while doing so, they lost a screw cap/cover and had to order it from the dealer. I had to go back to show them, and then pick up the part days later. There is paint overspray and painted fingerprints on the rubber window trim near where the work was done. This also did not get fixed as I was already disgusted with them, and feared what may happen if I left the car with them again. read more

I stopped here after reading the reviews. I had a rental car that had some rock chips,and a spot where some in all probability drunken gambler nerfed the back of the rental Stang* Leaving some unsightly marks that I was worried about liability with my contract. I stopped by without calling and James was kind enough to do some touch ups,and proclaim my attempts at repair a valiant effort. Not only did he fix the scratch and rock chips he gave me a tutorial on how to do touch ups!! I have read some of the reviews,and some people seem to think that they can lie with impunity to receive favorable treatment to their demands.They are fairly easy to spot as they lack any subjective ability to perceive their own inherent bias. Seems like every one star review is a screenwriter with a poorly formed hypocritical plot description,in a vain attempt to efface themselves as a poor victim. I just returned from picking up my car after Specialty repaired it. I've read through the reviews & am surprised to see that the one person was unhappy. I agree with everyone else. The repairs are top drawer, my 8 year old Lexus looks brand new! The communication was great. Javier has the patience of a saint. He explained each detail as to how my car would be repaired & how the painting match would be achieved. (this was a concern for an 8 year old car) They coordinated with a local branch of the rental car company; the rep was there when I arrived to drop off my car & I was not inconvenienced. Kudos to Carla as well. She called to let me know when to come to pick up my car. All my paperwork was at her fingertips when I arrived. I picked up my car & dropped off the rental. Very convenient. This place is seriously the best. I got a quote from another repair shop for $150-$200 and about 2hrs of work for what I thought was a minor repair. Then I went to Fix Auto to get another opinion and they did the repair in 15 minutes for less than 10% of what I was quoted at the other shop...I couldn't believe it. This is the first Yelp review I've ever written and I feel like writing a second for the other shop that tried to rip me off. Obviously I don't intend on damaging my car again but if I do, I will definitely be coming back to Fix Auto. Super friendly staff, knowledgeable, quick service, great prices. I was charged $1k to repair a front bumper that someone backed into when I was parked - a cost an incident which wasn't ultimately reported to my insurance carrier due to the nature of the matter and deductible. Yet Fix Auto reported it to CarFax which cost me another $1k in trade-in value because it was viewed a "branded" vehicle. Not satisfied. Customers should be consulted on the possible resale ramifications of having their vehicle repaired at your shop. read more

I miss the other guys, they were so nice and professional but now they and the owner have retired. They told me the body shop people are the same so that hasn't changed. My neighbor recently backed into my car, so I brought my car back to SBW. They provided me with an initial estimate based on the assumption that only my rear bumper needed to be replaced. Upon removing the bumper, they found additional damage, which increased my repair bill by over $1,000.00. They always kept me apprised as to the progress that they've made in ordering the parts, in dealing with my insurance, and in making the repairs. What a joke! I took my Tahoe for sand damage because I have been there before. What a couple of years can do to a business! After taking my car there, they fired the person in charge of my repair, so after 3 weeks I was upset since the rental car was no longer covered by my insurance company. After 39 days in the shop, they call me to come pick it up, I take a taxi that drops me off and I sign the paperwork and ask for a reason it takes so long. I actually gave them a check! They bring me the car, I walk around it, the grill is wrong, the bow tie is wrong and they quickly try to resolve it. I ask them to take it off so they can return it without damage and call me when it comes in. I then get into the car and the window is down, I try to put it up and it won't go up, it isn't even on the track!!!! I get out and refuse the car. They agree to take me home, so they put me in my car, drive me 1 block and my car runs out of gas, someone has removed the gas from my tank! I walk to work since it is so close. My car was ready two days later but after that, they should close their doors and end their career in auto repairs. read more

I referred a friend to take her car in for an estimate and was shocked to hear that the staff retired. So the sign is misleading. I spoke to someone who knows a previous employee of Specialty Body Works and it seems they all left because they did not believe in the work ethics of Fix Auto. I think this sums it up.It's a shame my friend was not able to experience the same friendliness that myself and my family have experienced. I was referred to Specialty Body Works by a friend, who is a local to Costa Mesa. While at school in Irvine, my daughter's car had been hit and needed repairs. Carla was very helpful in setting up the appt for repairs. And she was very good about communicating any answers to my questions, via email. She was very helpful in having the rental car waiting for my daughter when she dropped off the car! No need to finagle rides back and forth from Enterprise and SBW. It was all taken car of!! The car was completed in the time estimated. When my daughter picked up her car, she was extremely happy with the results!! 'Sacha' looked better than before!! Then after 5pm we realized a friend may have left her wallet in the rental, Jim actually answered the phone and checked to see if the wallet was in the car. He called me back within 5 minutes to say, yes it was there. And it could be picked up in the morning. He didn't have to answer the phone. He could have let the answering machine do it's job...but chose rather, to put the customer first and pick up the phone!! I don't have any bad words to say about Specialty Body Works. They worked with me from the minute I spoke to them on the phone. I was allowed to keep my car while they ordered the parts, and was even able to pick up, and drop off, the rental car at the shop. I made an appointment to deliver my car on a Monday morning and the car was out by Thursday evening. My car is older and one of my stipulations was to keep the repairs under the insurance "total" costs for the car, and they achieved this. They kept me in the loop, even after my car was picked up. I was hooked up with Mr. Jim Patopoff who is a super friendly gentleman who knows the ins and out of repairing cars. Mr. Patopoff kept in contact with me via email/phone during the whole process. I had many questions concerning my repair and he answered them and left me feeling very secure that I was getting a superior repair job, no short cuts taken. He explained in detail what parts were being replaced, where and why cuts in the body were made and welded back together. They checked the trunk lid, and doors, aligned my tires, checked the frame for damage. When I got the car back it looked brand new. If I ever have another accident I would not go anywhere else.
