I was having a heckuva time getting the windshield replaced in my car because it's a newer brand and it needs OEM parts. Two repair places had promised they could fix the glass and then cancelled on me because they weren't qualified to make the repair. I was skeptical that Nick & Ernie's could fix the windshield because I had been burned twice already. They were very professional, communicated well, and updated me throughout the process. The day of the install arrived and they took my keys. They let me know when my car would be ready, and when I arrived, all was well. Windshield looked perfect, car was freshly washed and looked gleaming. It even had those paper mats. Nick & Ernies is certified for my brand. Mechanic and body shop. Rated highly by State Farm customers in years past. Soon after any insurance related repair job you would receive a message from them asking for a free review. But how critical or in-depth could that review be? Who knows. Should have considered that better when making the choice to trust them with my Suby. Woes of the pandemic left their offices light on support staff for some time. Due to that aspect, getting an appointment for a repair quotation took over a month before I could actually visit them. They were very busy and short on personnel. After said insurance related fixes, repairs weren't completed on time nor in the time they kept the vehicle. The car had to be returned a few more times for inspections and clarity why the repair didn't quite fix all problems associated. Which I was okay about due to the type of problem I had. Back in Dec 2020 my parked car was injured by a drunk driver over NYE, so I could understand when all related issues weren't completely addressed. But even after, in all the discussions back and forth, I was never fully satisfied with their explanations/ repairs. Prior to finally deciding to come away with whatever was completed because I was in and out frequently I decided to proceed with muffler repair. That too wasn't properly fitted and due to it, my muffler was making such a loud noise as if it was a custom exhaust I had purchased. With the magnitude of sound created I wished there had been a boost of horsepower but such was not the case. It took several calls and ultimately I was able to return to have them do something to fit the mufflers correctly. Something which took care for about two days, till whatever was accomplished just kinda "broke" free and the loud sounds returned. A couple weeks later the car broke down on the Kennedy. Can't express how fun that was. Not very. Communication with the service manager I was allotted was not always on time. Several times I was leaving messages with alternates in the hopes of some return communication and when considering that months were passing without clear communication, shit was getting frustrating. You know what isn't funny. People always say after an accident, if you have full coverage the insurance companies will make sure your car is like new. That is not true at all. Since I felt and knew the car still needed a repair due to a control arm/etc a part that could have been damaged in that hit & run, State Farm gave me the chance to go elsewhere. But since the work performed at Nick & Ernie's I'm left feeling like it is time to sell my Subaru. If not for trying to utilize an "in-network" repair shop I am not sure I would have ended up here. No plans to return. read more

I'm a long time customer and have always held this shop in high regard. My last two experiences have been disappointing. My BMW was repaired after a minor parking mishap - the car was returned with a new dent and the paint match was not correct. Recently my Volvo was repaired after the insurance company totaled it. We bought it and repaired it because the damage was not severe - after the insurance company was put of the picture, communications - which is usually stellar - was nil. When the car was delivered, there was a warning light on the dash saying the hood was not closed. They claimed it was broken and didn't notice it but there was no light or problem with the hood before the repair. The body damage was only to the bumper - no hood involvement. they said they would let us know the cost but.......... never did. I believe the damage was caused by the shop - but still work has been mediocre and I'll be looking for a new vendor going forward. Also change in process where someone from the office takes pics of the car and you never talk the the estimating professional. You can do better. read more

Was rear ended by a State Farm Driver. Set up an appointment through SF. Called Nick and Ernie's Fix Auto Skokie to confirm a car evaluation time. Arrived on time, check in, waited 45 minutes for them to come out and say, "Oh we're not accepting new cars at this time." They could not refer me to another Fix Auto Location. They apologized and blamed the corporate "Fix Auto" Company and said there's nothing they can do. It's a massive waste of time to arrive at a body shop after they've accepted your appointment, only to wait around, then find out they're incompetent when it comes to scheduling and communicating with insurance providers. read more

Got recommended to fix auto by my insurance. I remember when this place was Nick n Ernies, apparently they bought into the fix auto brand. Overall this mom n pop type of shop does great work. My car was fixed pretty quickly and they even sent me text messages alerting me on the progress of my repair. Only bad thing I will say is the location. The entrance is on a side residential street which is kind of inconvenient, other then that these guys do a great job! read more

Beware.... this is a very dishonest auto body repair shop. I brought my vehicle in due to a Progressive auto collision claim and they were very dishonest. Told my insurance company that my car was totaled due to a front end collision. My auto needed a new bumper, a rebar that was bent and could have been pulled out, a hood that was bent back a little in the front, reparable. All in all, my vehicle had repairs that could have easily been repaired. They told my auto insurance company that the car was totaled, and it was not repairable. I felt uncomfortable with what they told me and told my insurance Progressive. I went back to take pictures and my car was already stripped. They took the parts of my vehicle. My insurance company did not send a representative out to assess the damage. Instead, they told me that Progressive has a working relationship w the shop. I highly recommend that you take your car to another auto repair for a second opinion. If it is not drivable, tow it. A more honest shop. read more

I walked into Nick & Ernies as a referral from a facebook friend. I couldn't have been happier! I am making this comment without even having my car fixed yet. The people were friendly, honest, and the office was really nice! They didn't know that I had already been to 2 other body shops in the past two hours looking for a quote to fix my car and that this was my last hope at finding a place to go. Their quote was the best one I found for the shortest amount of time. Place 1 said it would take 5-6 days to fix, Nick & Ernie can do it in half the time! If you need someplace to go then I suggest going here. The work that was done is outstanding! It makes me wish the rest of my car had been fixed. I recently had an accident, and even though I'm no mechanic, I could tell that enough damage was done to the front end that the repairs might hurt! Insurance sent me to Nick & Ernie's, and honestly - I couldn't be happier with the results. From the moment I walked in the door, they took care of me. Victor gave me an initial estimate, got me connected to Enterprise for a rental, then called me back the next morning with a more in-depth interview. The cost of repairs was actually higher than the write-off book value of the car, but knowing that I didn't want to lose my car, they were able to find less expensive parts to get repair costs low enough that my insurance was willing to let them go ahead with repairs. This was HUGE in my book - not all garages would make that kind of effort! They explained the estimated repair timeline - from how long it would take to get parts in, to doing the physical repairs and paint work, and the final inspections. It was explained to me that N&E's has a very thorough final checklist and that they don't release a vehicle until the list has been checked through and approved by a supervisor. They kept me updated on progress, and when it came time to pick up my car, I was even able to leave my rental car with them, which easily saved me an hour of time out of my day, at least. The staff was just great, and I was very happy with how great my car looked after repairs - they even cleaned the car, including the tires! My insurance directed me to Nick and Ernie's/Fix Auto awhile back and they were super nice and professional and quick, so I have gone back to them for a few little things. A week ago out of nowhere my clutch died on the highway and had to be towed so I immediately had them tow it to Nick & Ernie's (Fix Auto). Within 10 minutes, Matt came out and explained what he thought was going on at a quick glance, explained all of the possibilities, worst case scenarios and made it easy to follow. Being that it was a Friday afternoon, he assured me he would contact us Monday after he had a chance to really look into it. He actually called me an hour later with a detailed explanation, a possibility that there was a recall I could look into (which would mean him losing the business and me taking it to a dealer) and again, full price estimate and all of my options. I called, no luck with the recall, but he assured me he was on it, ordering foreign, hard to get parts by the end of the day (same day mind you). Called me Wednesday saying it was running perfect and ready to pick up. I have never had such amazing, helpful, friendly, understanding service, not to mention quick. I had it at the dealer a few weeks ago for a door latch and it was there for 2 weeks. Thank you Matt for making this painful experience SO much less painful. Customer for life. :) read more

I'm not a fan. The paint looks good. The dent is gone. But quality control was missing. I had to return 3 times to have stuff that I noticed was either missing or not right. Each time they took it in stride, saying to come back and they will have the next part. But never an apology for having to return again.. And again.. I suppose some customers might not have noticed what I noticed, but it's their job to go over the car and see that it is complete before returning it. The small details are not perfect, and should be.. Like the fender flare alignment. No one wants to deal with an accident, but more headaches after it is repaired is too much. I took my car in for some substantial repairs after someone backed into the driver's side door of my Honda Accord. Fortunately the other driver was extremely honest and left a note (this happened late at night), so her insurance took care of the bill. I only got one quote, so can't speak to how reasonable the cost was, but the process of getting things fixed couldn't have been easier. They took care of the insurance side of things, once the other party's insurance agent contacted them. The repairs took a week, which was less time than I expected. Everyone in the office was courteous and pleasant, and they were very good at contacting me and keeping me informed of things. All in all it was a painless experience. I used this shop twice so far and had a great experience on both occasions. The first time, I had to replace a side mirror on an inexpensive car. Therefore, I was not planning on investing much into it. I shopped around and N&E gave me hands down the best deal and finished the work in no time. Although a used mirror had been installed, it looked like new. The second time, I took my car in that had been involved in a serious accident. Herb walked me through the decision of wether it was worthwhile to repair the car or to just sell it to a salvage yard. My friends advised to be cautious because chances are that body shops in general will do their best to rip me off given that this was by no means my area of expertise. I have used them in the past a few times for standard body work, and while the body work was never perfect, they always were professional and timely, and did a good job. I always recommended them to my friends when they were looking for a body shop. However, I just brought an older car in for a rust repair estimate, and there was a new estimator guy (I always had had Nick or Ernie as an estimator in the past). This estimator seemed really uncomfortable looking at my rust and hesitant to give me an estimate. Regardless, he said I'd have his estimate within a day or two. Never heard back from the estimator. Several days later, I called them to see what was up, and the estimator said he couldn't do anything for me. Despite them not even removing my window to see the extent of the windshield-frame rust underneath, my car was beyond hope. What he meant to say was, there are easier/more-profitable car repairs than we can do than your rust repair, so beat it and call us the next time you need a fender dent pulled out. read more

This review is for the mechanic shop! Matt is the one you want to work on your car. Make sure you request him. He is honest and tells you the real deal. He also does small things for quality control that he does not even tell you about! He gets the work done on time and right the first time. He always makes sure it is perfect before it gets back to the customer. He will take the time to show you the problem and even make suggestions on how to prevent them in the future. He also takes care of your car as if it was his own. No oil smudges everywhere, no mud in the car, etc. Matt goes above and beyond. As for the body shop, as other reviewers said; no quality control. I read the reviews on Yelp and everything led me to an awesome experience from the day I met the staff (Natalie and Herb) to final delivery of my beautifully repaired VW. During the week of repair I received daily pics of my car from prep to final completion. I knew exactly what was going on with my car during that week. After the case was closed I realized that Enterprise Rental car billed me instead of Insurance Co. I called Natalie to assist me in reimbursement. Take your car to these guys. Back in December, someone backed into my car in my work's parking lot. My whole front bumper fell off. I was referred to Nick and Ernie's by a different auto shop that wasn't able to perform the needed repairs for my car. They did a pretty good job, and I left pretty satisfied once they fixed my car. Now, fast forward a few months. I saw that I got a ticket on my car. When I checked it, it said that I was missing a front license plate. I knew that I had a front license plate when I purchased my car last summer. When I looked at the pictures of my car when the person backed into my bumper, I saw that the license plate was there in the pictures. I concluded then, that Nick and Ernie's shop failed to put my license plate back onto my bumper when they were finished. Now, I felt that I did not have to pay for this ticket because it was the fault of Nick and Ernie's, and not me. So, I went over to the shop and spoke with Ernie. I let him know the entire situation, and he was more than happy to not only pay for my ticket, but also pay for a replacement license plate. I understand that businesses make mistakes. It's human nature. It is what is done as a result of those mistakes that make or break businesses. We had some dents, scuff marks and minor scrapes on the passenger side of our Ford Edge. We were referred to Nick and Ernie's Auto Body, aka Fix Auto Skokie, and it was the right choice. We live in Park Ridge and it was well worth the 20 minute drive. They got us in right away. Victor checked out the car and gave me a rough estimate. They had another guy look at it too and together they came up with a solution to fix our Ford. They had to remove the paneling basically across the entire passenger side, get the dents out and paint it. You cannot even tell the car had any damage. They did a wonderful job and their price was very reasonable, about $600 less than the quote given to us by another local auto body shop. They also followed up with us via text on the progress of the car, finished it a day earlier than expected and sent us a thank you note in the mail. I've been going to Nick and Ernie's since 2009, and honestly, haven't even looked at other shops since. I came in with my 2004 Mach 1 Mustang that needed a rear bumper and right panel replacement, and immediately knew these guys would take care of me and my car. The car was 5 years old at the time, and had lived outside during the Illinois winters, so I was worried about the color-matching on the "competition orange" paint, knowing it had faded a bit over the years - but these guys made it look like it just rolled off the factory floor - including making sure the door decal was exactly like the original. I was honestly amazed at how good the car looked. They even cleaned it head-to-toe, showing these guys are serious about serving their customers and the cars that mean so much to them. I mean, they send you pictures of them working on your car - definitely another way they set themselves apart from the competition. Since 2009, I've also brought in my 2002 Subaru Impreza to get everything from oil changes to a timing belt replacement, and even sometimes when the car is just making a weird noise - even the Mustang comes in for oil changes, when I could easily go to the Jiffy Lube that's a lot closer to my apartment. Scott, the main mechanic, is ALWAYS happy to take time out of his super busy day to take a look at the car, and has always been up-front with me about what I need to do to keep the car healthy and happy. I've never felt like I was being given bogus or sketchy advice, which I'm sure a lot of people experience with other shops. I really can't say enough about Scott's service, and how sweet and helpful he is - you should just experience it for yourself!
