Finally got a chance to try this spot out. I came on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm and was happy that it wasn't crowded. The downside is parking can a little pricey depending on the time and day that come but that is expectec with all downtown places. I was with my husband and he wanted to sit at the bar so we were able to go straight to seats with no wait. We were immediately greeted by the bartender and menus were already at the seats. The inside was very nice, not too loud, gospel music was playing at a nice level on the background. The decor is full of beautiful pictures and I love the big windows which adds brightness to the inside. After reviewing the all three menus I decided on the Sangria and my husband got the Old Fashion. I had a hard time trying to decide on what to get to eat because the menu is full of items. I decided on the smothered pork chops with collard greens and mac and cheese. My got the fried chicken with the same sides that I got. My pork chops were good, the fried chicken was a little too salty, I was happy the collard greens were not full of stems but the taste was ok. The mac and cheese lacked flavor and it was more cheese than mac. Service was good but because I sitting at the end of the bar were the bartenders made the drinks I got an earful of how they all didn't feel like working, how they hate this and that but hey we all complain about our jobs. I would probably only go back to visit their SpeakEasy Hush Harbor.

Instant favorite! 10/10 recommend. The food, ambiance and service was amazing. I can't believe how fast the food came out, it was piping hot and delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more menu items. Kevin Johnson did an amazing job with this restaurant concept.

I came here with a large group of people for brunch. The menu consists mostly of fried southern food. Fried deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, fried fish, fried chicken, etc. The food is fine, but not particularly flavorful. I ordered the Fried Fish, which comes with cornmeal crusted fish, corn fritters, and two sides for $26. A little pricey, but at least the servings were large, and I had leftovers to take home. I like that there are free drink refills. I am not a fan of their seating policy. Once you are seated, the clock starts with 90 minutes to dine. Even though the restaurant was not full, some of us decided to wait to be seated until more people arrived because we didn't want the 90 minute clock to start. The seating policy is very strict and does not provide leeway when the restaurant isn't fully occupied.

Really great food! We came here on Juneteenth after leaving a celebration. We did have a reservation and I highly recommend you make one. The wait wasn't too bad even though the restaurant was packed and every table was filled. I ordered the Fried chicken with collard greens and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken was exquisite. It tasted like it had been brined for 24-hours so definitely appreciated that. The collard greens had some vinegar on it and it was sooo good! The Mac n cheese was good as well but it was probably the weaker item of the other food on the plate. The biscuit was good and flaky and tasted even better with the strawberry butter. The oxtails with the red beans and rice was good, but the fried chicken was better. The bread pudding was good but different. I'm used to bread pudding being served hot with vanilla or butter pecan ice cream sitting on top of it. Their bread pudding was served cold with a whipped substance on top. It was okay, but I wouldn't have gotten it if I knew they served it cold. Would've been much better heated up.

Ventured downtown while in Detroit and business and found Fixins while looking through options online. It lives up to the standard for country-southern-soul food vittles. Ambience is loud and family fun oriented. We sat on the patio which was excellent as the AC is quite frigid inside the building. Drinks are served in 2 quart jars and the have sweet tea and Kook-Aid (red, purple and blue). We had the fried chicken and fried catfish. Each comes with two sides and chose candied yams, collard greens x2, and Mac n cheese. Also served with biscuits, cornbread and fish dinner has third option of corn fritters- which I got! The food was good, honey and filling. We exited by rolling and with leftovers.

The shrimp and grits and the grilled okra were delicious. The service was top tier . The restaurant was busy but calm . Great pics on the walls with some of Motown's favorite celebrities. A great place to take your family and not break the bank.

On our way to the Tigers game we stopped by on Friday night. Seated right away, place was pretty empty. We split fried chicken dinner with Mac n cheese and red beans and rice. I ordered a lemonade. Lemonade was fantastic. Good came out fast, almost too fast but chicken was hot. Red beans and rice was excellent,ac n cheese not so much. Biscuit and the flavored butter also excellent.

Hands-down the best soul food I have ever had! Every dish was seasoned perfectly. My friend and I ordered the Aunt Pearl's Plate. You get a lot of food for the right price. I had a glass of wine, the others had a whiskey and a martini. It did take a normally than longer time for the drinks to arrive. The food was delivered in a timely manner and delivered at the right temperature. There is plenty of seating for those that prefer tables as well for those that prefer booths. The restrooms were very clean and large. The service was stellar. Our server was kind, knowledgeable and very timely. Highly recommended.

We were in town for the R&B concert and I was so glad I decided to make a reservation! The place was packed at 2pm on a Thursday. Service was poooor. We weren't greeted until 15min after we sat down. The served had tables in front of us and behind and didn't even make eye contact as he was a servicing those tables. Ambiance was everything! They have the best macaroni and cheese you can buy!! Fried deviled eggs were great! Fired green tomatoes were very meh. Breading was over seasoned and thick, would not recommend. Smothered pork chops were a great choice but the kool aid is a must!! A little disappointed in the fried chicken... tasted like gas station chicken to me. But overall I'd go back and maybe get the chicken smothered.

When you first walk in the restaurant itself, it is nice and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Loved the ambiance and it is very clan in there. We did go on a Sunday because we are just in town for a basketball tournament. Plan ahead and make reservations. We did not make reservations and they told us an hour wait time but we were seated in less than 45 minutes. There is no parking, but plenty of parking lots available close by. Now the best part the food....we loved it all! My husband and son ordered sweet tea and they loved it! I ordered the smothered pork chops with red beans and rice, and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was so delicious and rich. The serving size for me was perfect because it was actually quite filling. Smothered pork chops were very tasty and seasoning was spot on and cooked just right. The red beans and rice was good and had a little spice to it. My husband had the three piece chicken with collard greens and potato salad. He said the chicken was fried perfectly and juicy. Collard greens are good, he don't need to add any seasoning. Potato salad was tasty! The best part about my husband's meal to me was the biscuit with the grape jelly butter!! I've had a biscuit with butter and grape jelly, but it's very never thought or heard of a grape jelly butter.... THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING CONCOCTION IVE EVER HAD!! So whoever thought that should be served with the biscuits....you are amazing!!! Best thing ever!!! My son had the chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese. He said he liked the chicken but he doesn't like anything spice and to him it was but I would say it's not. So he took the skin off and ate the chicken like that and loved that it was juicy and not dry. They gave him the same grape jelly butter for the waffles and syrup and he absolutely loved it!!! Again the whole grape jelly butter is the best idea ever!! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Detroit, MI. It is a must!!! And the staff is super professional and friendly!!

Vibrant restaurant downtown near Tigers stadium with beautiful decor featuring historical black people and places. The food was good but expensive. Service was just ok. I had the shrimp and grits - $26 - came with five small shrimp. The number and size of the shrimp was unreasonable, but I enjoyed the sauce with thick chunks of veggies within as well as the grits. My son had the pancakes and I tried them and they were very tasty. Someone else had the fish dinner and it came with one fried fish filet. He was disappointed in this portion size also. The service was ok. The hostess was friendly and helpful. The woman at the bar was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Our server Aamiyah's service was satisfactory. She didn't check on us during the meal nor apologized when my meal was forgotten and was delivered about 7 minutes after everyone else's. My friend's food was served warm. Also, I would have appreciated being told that a 16.9 oz bottle of water would cost $7. This was egregiously overpriced. Nice place to try once - we were here visiting.

Came to Fixins on a Saturday and honestly it was a really frustrating experience. We were seated and ended up waiting about an hour for our food, and it never came. There was little to no communication from the staff about what was going on, which made it even worse because we were just sitting there with no updates. The service overall felt very unorganized and inattentive. We did receive the deviled eggs, and they were decent, but that ended up being the only thing we got the entire time. After waiting that long with no real explanation, we decided to just leave without eating anything else. I understand weekends can get busy, but an hour with no food and no clear communication just isn't acceptable. It really put a bad taste in our mouths, especially since we were looking forward to trying more from the menu. Definitely needs improvement when it comes to service and managing tables during peak hours.

My first time here, the service was great, and the people were professional! Went on a Sunday afternoon, had reservations and was seated right away. After putting in my order, the food was out in less than 10 minutes. Had the Patron margarita tree and it was definitely worth the money. I will happily be going back.

It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it. The apple sofrito added a bit of sweetness to it. For dessert, we had to get the rhubarb coffee cake, which came with strawberry ice cream. Omg one of the best desserts I've ever had!! I never thought of combining cinnamon coffee cake with rhubarb or strawberry but it's perfect, and I might have to make something like that soon. Service was great and we were seated right away at 8pm on a Saturday despite not having a reservation. Food and drinks came out promptly and timed perfectly. Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.
