True southern love provided here!! Will leave with full and happy belly! It was easy to make a reservation online. On arrival, the hosts were prompt to greet our group and assist us with sitting. I will say the kitchen moves quickly. This is excellent especially if you come before a game or concert. The setting is modern with some Motown favorites! They do have the main dining area and bar with seating as well as a back dining and bar area. There are an assortment of drinks - kool aids to alcoholic beverages as well as assortment of entrées. All dishes that came out looked delicious. At the table we started with the deep fried deviled eggs and fried tomatoes- wonderful and unique dishes. We had an assortment of dishes from the chicken tenders, chicken sandwich, chicken and waffles, fish nuggets and burger. The chicken and waffle was divine! The sandwich and chicken and waffle are good to share- portions are a nice size. We tried a variety of sides the yams, rice and beans, fries, collard greens, and cornbread muffins. The place is located in a great place. Parking is alittle touch with being in the city but you can either do street parking or find a parking lot. The place and decor is in a nice building that is cozy and well lit. We came here on a Thursday during lunch. We got seated right away. We looked at the menu and drinks. The waitress was super nice and friendly. She gave us a good recommendation for an alcoholic beverage. We looked over the menu and had no questions. My friend and I ordered the chicken and waffles and fried chicken since she wanted some side. The chicken and waffles were alright. The waffle looked more like a pancake on how flat it was. The chicken was fried great but did not have much flavor to the batter. My friend's fried chicken was the same and the ochra and rice with bean were mediocre. Some negative were that our drinks took over 30 minutes to get. Also, we had brought some bottles of water in since we were walking in the city. The waitress saw we had the bottles of water and stated "i guess you do not need any water since you brought your own." I felt that was a little judgemental and not called for. Finally got a chance to try this spot out. I came on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm and was happy that it wasn't crowded. The downside is parking can a little pricey depending on the time and day that come but that is expectec with all downtown places. I was with my husband and he wanted to sit at the bar so we were able to go straight to seats with no wait. We were immediately greeted by the bartender and menus were already at the seats. The inside was very nice, not too loud, gospel music was playing at a nice level on the background. The decor is full of beautiful pictures and I love the big windows which adds brightness to the inside. After reviewing the all three menus I decided on the Sangria and my husband got the Old Fashion. I had a hard time trying to decide on what to get to eat because the menu is full of items. I decided on the smothered pork chops with collard greens and mac and cheese. My got the fried chicken with the same sides that I got. My pork chops were good, the fried chicken was a little too salty, I was happy the collard greens were not full of stems but the taste was ok. The mac and cheese lacked flavor and it was more cheese than mac. Service was good but because I sitting at the end of the bar were the bartenders made the drinks I got an earful of how they all didn't feel like working, how they hate this and that but hey we all complain about our jobs. I came here with a large group of people for brunch. The menu consists mostly of fried southern food. Fried deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, fried fish, fried chicken, etc. The food is fine, but not particularly flavorful. I ordered the Fried Fish, which comes with cornmeal crusted fish, corn fritters, and two sides for $26. A little pricey, but at least the servings were large, and I had leftovers to take home. I like that there are free drink refills. I am not a fan of their seating policy. Once you are seated, the clock starts with 90 minutes to dine. Even though the restaurant was not full, some of us decided to wait to be seated until more people arrived because we didn't want the 90 minute clock to start. Really great food! We came here on Juneteenth after leaving a celebration. We did have a reservation and I highly recommend you make one. The wait wasn't too bad even though the restaurant was packed and every table was filled. I ordered the Fried chicken with collard greens and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken was exquisite. It tasted like it had been brined for 24-hours so definitely appreciated that. The collard greens had some vinegar on it and it was sooo good! The Mac n cheese was good as well but it was probably the weaker item of the other food on the plate. The biscuit was good and flaky and tasted even better with the strawberry butter. The oxtails with the red beans and rice was good, but the fried chicken was better. The bread pudding was good but different. I'm used to bread pudding being served hot with vanilla or butter pecan ice cream sitting on top of it. Their bread pudding was served cold with a whipped substance on top. Ventured downtown while in Detroit and business and found Fixins while looking through options online. It lives up to the standard for country-southern-soul food vittles. Ambience is loud and family fun oriented. We sat on the patio which was excellent as the AC is quite frigid inside the building. Drinks are served in 2 quart jars and the have sweet tea and Kook-Aid (red, purple and blue). We had the fried chicken and fried catfish. We were in town for the R&B concert and I was so glad I decided to make a reservation! The place was packed at 2pm on a Thursday. Service was poooor. We weren't greeted until 15min after we sat down. I had the shrimp and grits - $26 - came with five small shrimp. The number and size of the shrimp was unreasonable, but I enjoyed the sauce with thick chunks of veggies within as well as the grits. My son had the pancakes and I tried them and they were very tasty. Someone else had the fish dinner and it came with one fried fish filet. He was disappointed in this portion size also. Came to Fixins on a Saturday and honestly it was a really frustrating experience. We were seated and ended up waiting about an hour for our food, and it never came. There was little to no communication from the staff about what was going on, which made it even worse because we were just sitting there with no updates. The service overall felt very unorganized and inattentive. We did receive the deviled eggs, and they were decent, but that ended up being the only thing we got the entire time. After waiting that long with no real explanation, we decided to just leave without eating anything else. I understand weekends can get busy, but an hour with no food and no clear communication just isn't acceptable. It really put a bad taste in our mouths, especially since we were looking forward to trying more from the menu. If I could give a zero I would. I had to wait to put in my carry out order and then again when I picked up my order. I tried to order online for pickup but kept being directed to DoorDash. One of my coworkers told me later that I could order the carry out through the DoorDash app. Although I received an apology for the wait when I ordered, I felt worse having received a text that my order was ready but again having to wait to pick up my order. I've been wanting to check this place out since they opened about a year ago. Finally was able to go yesterday and it was everything people hyped it up to be. I truly enjoyed the food, service and drinks. I love the old school pictures on the wall, gives it a nice nostalgic vibe. All the food we had was excellent and well seasoned. The Blue Kool-Aid was perfect, not too sweet, just enough. I also enjoyed the chicken dinner I had. All the sides I had (Mac & cheese, greens and yams) were sooo good. I had no complaints at all. Our party split the bill into two checks based on what each group ordered, and our portion for five people came to more than $230, including the automatic 20% gratuity. The food itself was just okay. Some dishes were enjoyable, but overall it didn't live up to the hype or the price point. Unfortunately, the service and billing experience left a sour taste. When it came time to pay, we weren't initially shown the itemized check and were simply quoted a total. After leaving and reviewing the receipt more closely, it appears we may have been charged for an extra entrée that didn't belong on our portion of the bill. We're following up with the restaurant to clarify the charges, but it was disappointing to discover this only after the fact. The ending of the meal was also uncomfortable because our waitress mentioned that she doesn't receive much of the automatic 20% large-party gratuity because it's shared with support staff. Since a gratuity had already been added to the bill, the comment felt like subtle pressure to leave an additional tip. Mistakes happen, and we're happy to update this review if the billing issue is resolved. However, between the so-so food, the uncomfortable conversation about tipping, and the possible overcharge, this wasn't the experience we were expecting. read more

I would recommend you try to make a reservation if you could I went in without a reservation and had to wait 45 minutes for a table. I also do not like the fact that they do not provide or have any parking options not even a validating parking options I had to pay $20 to park across the street and was told that I could only be there for three hours so with a 45 minute wait I definitely had enough time still to enjoy the meal. The chicken is not the best to me. It seemed very bland no flavor. The collard greens were good. The mac & cheese were good.
