Exploring the Flagstaff breweries, via the Flagstaff Beer Passport, we looked forward to enjoying the varying ambiances & beers, but oof Flagstaff was the WORST experience. We arrived on a cold Friday night, ready to nestle into the bar area- the 'greeting staff' told us to sit anywhere, so we tucked into the back bar area- while musicians played in the crowded front bar area- Choosing a seat, the options had a very dive bar feeling- wonky seats around a keg that all wobbled- janky looking pew seating along the wall- not the coziest options- A guy came & asked if we wanted menus- we let him know we were just going to grab a few drinks- if we could have beer menus- and didn't need any food- he proceeded to throw a beer menu at me (laminated cards on a keyring) & said, "oh well here is just beer. I literally gasped catching it, not to be dramatic, but it was a very shocking experience- Further shocked, the beer menu he hent didn't match anything posted on the website- or the beer up on the bar menu- when I attempted to ask about the options- he told me "kegs kick, this is what you get". We decided to just leave, it felt very uncomfortable- very off putting-

Might have been the best spinach and artichoke dip I've had in my life. The wings were also top 4? Something like that. So good. Bartenders were attentive even though they seemed understaffed. I went for a comedy show as a tourist in Flagstaff and the show was hilarious. They had a nice outdoor seating place as well for when the weather gets warmer. I liked everything about this place.

PASTRAMI ANYONE?!? I'm not the first to order Patrami sandwiches, but when you ask for a recommendation and the waitress lights up with a high eyebrow smile and shouts without hesitation "The Pastrami w/a side of Russian Dressing!!".... you must get it. Thanks for being effective on the advice and providing additional convenience when the kitchen got a bit backed up.

It's disappointing that they've paired down their burger menu. I miss the grilled pear burger...it was my favorite.

The Mac and cheese is always good here but I did learn something for next time. Don't order it if they are slow, order it when they are busy or it might sit in the warmer a little too long, although, even slightly overcooked it was still pretty darn good. The hatch green chili here.. not sure what they do it, but my god it's buttery and out of this world delicious. We got a huge side of it and devoured it instantly

The outdoor beer garden is huge with plenty of seating, heaters for those crisp Flagstaff evenings, and sunshades for warmer days. There's indoor seating too, but the outdoor area is definitely the main attraction. It's also dog friendly, which was nice to see. You order both food and drinks at the counter and they bring everything out to you. We arrived right when they opened and there was already a line forming, so the place is clearly popular. The decor fully leans into Flagstaff's International Dark Sky designation with UFO, alien, and astronaut-themed artwork throughout the venue, which gives it a fun atmosphere. The drink selection was impressive with a huge variety of craft beers on tap plus cocktails, cider, and wine. We tried the Rainy Daze hazy IPA and the Vortices hazy double IPA. Both were smooth, flavorful, and not overly bitter or hoppy, and of course very hazy. Food was more hit or miss. The pretzel board was really good and the beer cheese was awesome. The fish and chips, however, were just okay. The fish tasted like the fryer oil probably needed to be changed, and the portions were smaller than expected with only three thin pieces of fish. The fries at least came out crispy and hot. Service was friendly, although interaction is pretty limited since everything is counter service. The all-gender bathrooms were also clean, which is always appreciated. There's a paid parking lot across the street along with metered street parking nearby. Overall, I'd come back for the atmosphere and the massive beer selection, but I'd probably skip the fried foods.

The portobello appetizer was absolutely outstanding and easily the highlight of the meal. It was flavorful, well-executed, and just as memorable as we remembered. The steelhead trout was cooked perfectly, medium and very tender but both my boyfriend and I found it a bit fishier than we prefer. Unfortunately, dessert was a major disappointment. We ordered the Basque cheesecake, and it was nothing like what we expected. Instead of being moist, creamy, and custardy, it was dry and crumbly. I mentioned to our server that the pastry chef might want to reconsider the recipe, but she responded that it had been made this way for many years, suggesting they were confident in it as is. At $16, the cheesecake was especially hard to justify. We've had far better cheesecake elsewhere for less. Would we return? Maybe...but primarily for the portobello appetizer. Overall, we'd probably choose to spend our money at Shift instead.

We lucked out with some gorgeous weather a few weeks back, so dining on the patio was very enjoyable, particularly with the cozy string lights on overhead. It was super packed, but some of the couples ahead of us rejected the tiny bar counter and stools at the end of the smaller patio; since those seats didn't bother us we were seated immediately! I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she was very friendly. She immediately brought us a water carafe and two glasses. She was back in under 5 minutes to take our order and our food came out super fast. We began with the Mixed Greens Salad with Chevre & Pine Nuts. The portion was generous and the salad was absolutely delicious. They let the flavor of the chevre & pine nuts really shine through by adding a very light olive oil based dressing. We then shared our favorite pizza, the Diavola, which was delicious as always. Their pizza crust is some of the best in the western U.S. I love the convenience of enjoying Pizzicletta at Dark Sky, but I think we'll be coming to this location from now on. We loved the ambiance and slightly expanded menu offered here. Plus, grabbing drinks two doors down at Mother Road before/after is an added bonus!
