This stop is part of my ongoing tour of all the Florida spots featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives--and yes, I've even got a Yelp collection going if you want to follow along with my adventures. The show has been running since 2006 and is now deep into its 40th season, with Guy Fieri crisscrossing the country in search of some of the most underrated and delicious local eats. Flakowitz of Boynton Bakery & Deli Restaurant was featured in Season 6, Episode 5 ("Biscuits, Bagels and BLTs"), which originally aired on May 4, 2009--and it's easy to see why it made the cut. This place is a true Boynton Beach institution. Since 1967, they've been serving up classic New York-style Jewish deli fare, and they do it right. Think towering, sliced-to-order sandwiches, rich matzoh ball soup, and hearty comfort dishes like their stuffed cabbage (which Guy himself tried on the show). Beyond the restaurant, there's also a deli counter and a full bakery stocked with fresh bagels, rugelach, babka, challah, black-and-white cookies, and more. The bagels are made the traditional way--boiled and baked--and you can taste the difference. From the moment I sat down, the experience felt warm and welcoming. They brought out complimentary marble cake while I looked over the menu, which was a nice touch. The service was just as good--my waitress was attentive and seemed to know exactly when I needed that much-appreciated, steaming cup of coffee. I went with a classic: a corned beef sandwich piled high with tender, flavorful meat. It was massive and incredibly satisfying, especially with the sides--coleslaw, a crispy potato pancake, and a half-sour pickle. Definitely the kind of meal that leaves your soul satiated. And of course, I couldn't leave without stopping by the bakery on my way out. I grabbed a few cookies and bagels to go--no regrets there. I've been wanting to check this place out for a long time, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're a fan of classic delis or following in Guy Fieri's footsteps like I am, this one is a must-visit.

Tuna melt. Chunks of tuna. So good

Came back here for dinner haven't been here in years for dinner. Delicious roast beef sandwich and potato latke is always good. My mom said last time she went the coleslaw was sour but today it was very fresh. When sitting down the wait staff are super friendly and food comes out quick. You have to wait in line for a table but once you get one the food comes out quickly. I've been getting the meltaway which is like a giant babka, and unfortunately it's not as good as 10 years ago. Has an odd fake buttery flavor and the half of it usually has little to no chocolate swirl.

California omelette with avocado and Swiss cheese, tomato and French toast with fruit

Here we are again at Flakowitz but this time for brunch celebrating Father's Day. We sat almost immediately and the adorable and efficient Brenda was our waitress. I enjoyed a California omelette with avocado and Swiss cheese. Paul had the French toast. Portions were overwhelming. The latest from Flakowitz is they now are part of the InKind app which saves 20% on every check. I'm very happy about that.

    Mushroom barley soup

Delicious dinner very old-school Jewish deli beef barley soup was outrageous or a skirt steak covered in mushrooms and onions and it even came with a chocolate Babka this place is really good. Definitely worth a visit.

At Flakowitz the have frozen quarts of soup, buy 2 get 1 free. That was my agenda for today. I really felt like buying some soup and taking it home. When I got the rest and I swear it wasn't overly crowded, so I decided to stay and have a little lunch. The restaurant is fairly large with booths and tables all around. Normally there's a long line waiting to get in, but today I was lucky. I just wanted a simple lunch so I had a bowl of split pea soup and a corned beef sandwich on rye with a latke. My server, Evan was very friendly. My food cand out pretty quick. The soup was very tasty and the sandwich was piled high with corned beef. My lunch portion was very good. My was the lack of attention at the deli counter when I wanted to pay for my soups. Three men having a nice long conversation behind the opposite counter one Lady being insisted by a counter worker and me of the register with three soups being completely ignored. I was finally able to pay for my soups, but they really need to be more organized at the deli counter. It's really disheartening as a customer to be ignored while three men are having a conversation and not helping customers that are waiting.

    Pastrami sandwich with potato pancake

I had an early lunch yesterday at Flakowitz in Boynton Beach. As always, it didn't disappoint. I couldn't resist ordering the hot pastrami sandwich with potato pancake on the side with apple sauce. The restaurant was very busy and the service was excellent. It's difficult for me to go to Flakowitz and not order the pastrami sandwich. I highly recommend this restaurant. They also have an amazing bakery and cold deli items to go. They also serve kosher pickles on the table along with marble cake. Plenty of easy parking makes this place one of my personal favorites. Enjoy!

    Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich

I got the chicken schnitzel sandwich on a kiezer roll today and it was really good. Lots of mushrooms and onions on top which added good flavor. Their French fries are so good and the coslaw is very much Jewish deli coslaw. The service was good and it's always a busy environment, but other than that it's a solid place for lunch.

Even though they don't make their corned beef in-house anymore, it's still delicious. The place is constantly busy, and the service is always excellent. I highly recommend most items on the menu, especially the corned beef, pastrami, fries, coleslaw, and their matzo ball and mushroom barley soups. Come before 2 pm to enjoy their complimentary marble cake, definitely a sweet bonus!

Sloppy Joe, coleslaw, fries and sour pickle
    Monica G.

By far my favorite deli I keep coming back! The service is superb excellent if I could I would rate them higher! Definitely recommend! The sloppy Joe is delicious with coleslaw, fries and a sour pickle fantastic very filling! The black a white cookie is a must try! And the Dr browns extra dry ginger ale phenomenal! The black cherry is good also as well as the cream soda! The ambiance and over all vibe is wonderful! They are always packed and I see why. Thank you guys! I have enjoyed all of my experiences at your deli!

The vegetables sandwich that I ordered had so much oil but fortunately the bread soaked up some of it, so I just discarded the bread. My wife's salad with fish was very good. Also, the fruit served with my sandwich? Just perfectly ripe and enjoyable. One of the things that cracked me up here, being a laid back Texas boy, was over hearing all the incessant, noisy, nasal New York Jewish ladies whining, commiserating and ruminating with each other at the other tables. That was entertaining. I had thought about asking about the homemade desserts but the staff was slammed I guess cause no one came around to check on how things were going and if we needed anything else. Just as well. Counting calories. My tipping default would normally be 20% but today... not sure what I will leave lol.

Despite the hostess telling me that this was NOT a busy night, we had to wait ten minutes to just get water glasses because there were no clean ones. I felt bad that our waitress seemed so overwhelmed. For a Saturday night during flavor palm beach, I would have expected the restaurant to be more prepared for the number of diners. Despite all of this, I'm still thinking about the food and how much I want to go back. Reservations are a must. Sitting outside is a little tough when it's so hot and buggy out. The espresso martini was good as was the Point Break, with tequila and guava juice, very nice, very tropical. Avalon Beach House used to be Avalon Steak & Seafood House. The first time I went in 2022, I remember it being more of a traditional steakhouse. The Ave has grown significantly around it over the years, but it's still one of the staple restaurants in a central location. Overall, it was great meal with good service and nice atmosphere. It's sill one of the gems. We started with the wedge salad and cheesy bread. We wanted to get the Filet Mignon and the Prime Cut Ribeye to share them, but they were out of the Filet which was a bit surprising. Instead, we got the Crispy Chicken Piccata. They were both excellent. The fingerlings and asparagus were good and loved the red wine sauce. The crispy chicken was not too heavy, with lemon and an ample arugula salad. I don't remember the name of desert, but it was a combo of a browny with an Oreo cookie layer (which the kid in me couldn't refuse) with a scoop vanilla ice cream. It was great.
