As part of Flame Broiler's 30th anniversary celebration, rewards members were gifted a free regular bowl during the first half of September if they spent at least $30 (taxes included) the previous month, during which three weekly deals were offered to rewards members. After partaking in each week's deals, I was able to score this free regular bowl, which was actually loaded onto my account after the third week, giving me an extra week to redeem my free bowl. I had known about this location for a while since I pass by the area from time to time. However, since it wasn't the closest location to me, I hadn't bothered to go. That is, until I was doing some shopping in the area and needed to get lunch. This Flame Broiler is in Cerritos on the northeast corner of Pioneer and Del Amo. It's in the same plaza as 7 Leaves, Caesar's Mongolian, Dollar Tree, and Crunch Fitness. Flame Broiler is on the east end of the lot, closest to the gym, perhaps strategically placed there so that gym-goers can simply walk over for some healthy eats after a tough workout. First and foremost, don't assume that this Flame Broiler is similar to its neighboring locations. That's because at this location, you're supposed to head to the right to start building your bowl, and then you pay for your order, kind of like Subway, Chipotle, Pieology, etc. At the Lakewood and Long Beach locations, you simply walk up to the counter to place your order, and that's pretty much what I did at this location since there wasn't anybody in line when I went after 2 PM on a Saturday. I strategically waited until 2 PM because that's when Flame Broiler's Happy Hour usually starts, at least on weekdays. However, the Happy Hour deals are different from location to location. I was hoping this location would have a Happy Hour deal that could get me a free drink with my free bowl, but no such deal can be found at this location. Instead, the Happy Hour deal here is a mini chicken/tofu veggie bowl and a regular fountain drink for only $7.99 + tax. And actually, the deal works all day Saturday and Sunday, so I wouldn't have needed to wait anyways for their Happy Hour deal, which unfortunately wouldn't be compatible with my free bowl reward. I went up to the cashier to let her know my intent to get the free bowl, and she rang me up similar to how I'd get rung up at the neighboring locations. White or brown rice? Vegetables and green onions? The free bowl could have been any protein, and I chose the Steak Bulgogi. It took her a minute to build my bowl, insert it into a plastic bag, and hand me my bag. Except for a few things. I didn't get any sauces, utensils, or napkins! I made sure to ask for them after I asked for a water cup, and she directed me to a nearby counter that has sauce pumps, small cups for the sauces, napkins, and forks. Even more of a deviation from the norm because I'm used to getting pre-filled cups of sauce to go with my order, but here, I had to get the sauces myself. Plus a fork and napkins, which could have been touched by other customers, certainly a hindrance to germaphobes as I'll allude to in the following paragraph. When I went up to get sauces, I noticed the cups on one side of the counter had drops of sauce on them, indicative of the lack of care from the employees here. None of them, not even the cashier who built my bowl, bothered to walk over there to inspect it for cleanliness. While I appreciate how we could have gotten as much sauce as we wanted for our orders, the carelessness of others keeping that counter clean was quite a turnoff. Like I had to grab a clean cup from one side of the counter before going to the other side to get a sauce I wanted. Plus, those cups are pretty small, so you may need to make a second trip to get more sauce(s) for your bowl. The bowl I had was on par with what they should taste like. In fact, I might even say the steak bulgogi was of better quality than when I tried it at the Long Beach location! However, I felt the cashier could have added a little more of the protein, vegetables, or the brown rice before placing a lid on top of my bowl. Minor complaint, though. I had parked my car at a spot right in front of next door Caribbean Juice & Mexican Food; that spot was a 30-minute only spot, but I only needed about 20 to eat my lunch. At the register, they have punch cards, which the cashier told me was more for customers who don't have the app. I was also wondering if my free bowl would count as a stamp, but she said it did not. The punch card is only good at this location, and you can only get a stamp when you pay full price for a regular bowl or plate. After 5 stamps, you get a free 20 oz drink; after 10 stamps, you get a free chicken bowl. Overall, not a bad location to go to, but that drink dispenser was kind of haunted! While I was eating, it randomly spit out ice when nobody was there. Celebrating Halloween a little early I see lol read more

- Disappointing Portions, Mostly Rice I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled after my experience here. If you're coming to Flame Broiler expecting a filling meal with a decent portion of meat, think again. The owner is extremely strict with portions -- and by portions, I mean they basically serve you a bowl full of rice with a few tiny slivers of meat scattered on top like garnish. It's honestly frustrating to pay for a "protein bowl" and get mostly plain rice. I left still hungry and annoyed. This place might be okay if you're not that hungry or if you're on a super tight diet, but if you're looking for value or a balanced meal, look elsewhere. There are plenty of places that give you what you pay for -- this isn't one of them. Not coming back. read more

When you fan the flames, the hunger will broil Flame Broiler Cerritos, which opened in January, sent out flyers advertising their Customer Appreciation Weekend on May 21 - 22nd, which had chicken bowls for $5 & $1 drinks. I've been to the Artesia & La Palma locations on a handful of occasions, so having an opportunity for discounted food close to home was something I couldn't pass up. Ordering goes as follows- Size - mini, regular or plate Base - rice (white or brown), veggies or both Protein - skinless chicken, Angus beef, organic tofu or half & half I remember food being previously made to order, but now it seems Flame Broiler now pre-cooks their food and stores them in covered warming trays. Pro - Less time for food Con - Food isn't freshly prepared Chicken bowl with vegetables, no rice- With a slathering of magic sauce, not to mention the red & green hot sauces, the chicken bowl with veggies proved to be a great weekend lunch. The veggies consisted of cabbage, broccoli & carrots. The chunks of chicken were tender & moist. I would've preferred more to my bowl, but with my request for lots of green onions, I had a meal that was quite pleasing to my palate. Between the 2 hot sauces, I preferred the green sauce because it had more body to it. Flame Broiler has several specials posted on the windows, which include- Tues. Standard flame broiler except there is a counter where the cashier asks you what rice and if you want vegetables and puts those in a bowl in front of you. They offer avocado for an extra charge. The jalapeños are next to their sauces, and chopsticks are available near the soda machine in the corner. They also have mint flavored toothpicks in that corner. If you want bags for your jalapeños you need to ask the cashier. The food comes out quick and hot, and it's tasty! I always get an organic tofu bowl with brown rice, green onions, and add jalapeños to it. I mix in 1 small container of hot sauce and 1 container of magic sauce. read more

I noticed they had a heating tray for the chicken which causes it to taste dry. No other flame broiler I've seen do this. Vegetables still hard. Highlights. Chicken dry/ overcooked. Hard. We enjoy coming to the FB for healthier fast food. I appreciate that they have both brown and white rice, and you can ask for specific veggies (I usually only get carrots and broccoli). They also have the option for a regular or mini bowl. We enjoy their chicken bowls, which is really tasty with their Magic Sauce (teriyaki). We enjoy spicy food, so we also get the spicy red, and spicier green sauce (so good!). I believe on Tuesdays they have two chicken bowls for $10.99 which is a good deal. Yum yum, the food here is delicous! Chicken, beef, rice, coleslaw and an orange half was just what I needed:) Tummy is happy and I don't feel bloated or mushy like with other restaurant meals. The food is healthy, clean and makes you feel good inside and out. I am working on a 20 pound weight loss goal and finding good tasting food that is within my calorie count range isn't easy. UPDATED on 08/05/16 I was starting to give this place a little more credit - until today. I came in starved with a friend of mine and we both ordered the same thing. White meat chicken, light sauce, all veggies. The food was fine until the last few pieces that I bit into and noticed that it was not cooked all the way and a little pink on the inside. I tried not to make a big deal about it to the cashier, and her reply was "oh, okay, i'll tell him (the cook)". There was no apology or solution to the problem. She "told" the cook and he shook his head in acknowledgement, and that was that. I wasn't expecting a refund or anything, but an apology would've sufficed. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. Not necessarily because of the raw chicken experience (because that can happen anywhere), but mainly because of the way the staff handled the situation. Raw chicken isn't cool. read more

I love this location! By far, my most favorite location. They serve it chipotle style. It made things soo much easier and your food is ready right away and you don't have to wait! You choose your rice, veggies and protein and that's it. They give you a good amount of food here and the bowl is bigger and wider. I usually order the plate because I hate how the bowls are so tiny and it gets super packed with so much meat on top, but nope! They don't have that problem at this location. They also have stamp cards so you can get a free one on your 10th visit! I'll be coming to this location more often when I'm in the area. I have to agree with everyone else. The prices have gone up, and the serving size has gone down. I'm happy it's so close to my house. That's a plus. But..... You can tell that these franchise owners are new to owing this type of business, health nuts, and cheap! They ration out meat. That is super cheap. Or just because the owners are big buff guys and they don't like to eat, doesn't mean everyone else is that way! I was so excited about the grand opening for this location. I literally pass it on my way home everyday, and was relieved to finally have some better options then what's offered in this small shopping center. Unfortunately my first visit wasn't as great as i expected it to be. I ordered a half and half chicken steak bowl only to get the stingiest scoop of meat placed into my bowl and a rationed amount of steam rice. Not to mention they closed in 20 minutes and there was enough chicken and beef to go around. My wife's bowl was treated with the same amount of portions. We left paying $18 for both bowels and a soda and we were still hungry and we had to rewarm it because it was cold. For the price we paid we could have gone to our regular pho spot and paid a couple dollars more and gotten better food and full stomachs. I'll probably give it one more shot since it is their first week but I hope they improve. read more

I feel like the bigger the company gets the less you get in terms of quantity and quality. I can't hate on Flame Broiler though as it is my version of a healthy meal as well as enjoyable. I'm glad that this location opened up near my house so I don't have to worry about what to eat when looking for a quick bite. I've noticed that they are going for more of a chipotle style serving method which is more efficient but then again it loses the "cooked on the spot" feel. Customer service was extremely good/welcoming as I feel like for a Flame Broiler it is overstaffed (maybe just because they just opened). You will probably see me here pretty often haha. read more
