I was really excited to try this restaurant and had to book my reservation three weeks in advance because of it's popularity, so the expectations were very high going in. Everything started out great, my cousin and I were seated immediately when we walked in the door and we were greeted by the manager and bartender as we sat down. The appetizers we got were amazing. My cousin got the oysters and I got the shrimp cocktail which came with a delicious bourbon cocktail sauce. We also got a great recommendation for a bottle of wine which was at the mid point price range for a bottle on their menu ($99) but we both very much enjoyed it and found that to be worth the price. It was when we received our entrees that everything seemed to go down hill. We both ordered the steak and frites which would have paired well with our red wine; however, both steaks came out with a ridiculous amount of extra virgin olive oil on it, that I learned they drizzle over it after cooking and my steak came out rare (I ordered it medium rare). The steak was not seasoned prior to cooking it and was only topped with some salt and butter when served. How does a well known, quality restaurant not season a steak before cooking, and why on earth would you drizzle oil on it after?! Anyone who knows how to cook a really good steak knows that you should ALWAYS season a steak heavily prior to cooking. Anyways...the manager did his best to rectify the situation by bringing me another steak. This time I asked for them not to top it with olive oil on it and if they weren't going to season it to bring me salt and pepper. The steak came out medium on one end and rare on the other, and when I told the manager the cook still wasn't right he tried to blame it on the lighting. There is clearly a different texture to a steak between medium, medium rare and rare! So the fact he blamed it on the lighting was a little insulting to my intelligence. However, the manager still tried to save the experience by bringing out a cheesecake on the house, which we didn't really want, but my cousin owns her own bakery so we figured we'd give it a try. It came out burnt and tasting like eggs!! My cousin and I literally had a laugh because we told the manager before he brought it out that she owns her own bakery and makes cheesecakes almost daily. Lastly, I ended up paying for my poorly executed steak despite it being bland and undercooked and to top it all off whilst I was checking out the manager literally stood over my shoulder as I was paying, which It made me very uncomfortable and I fount it to be very unprofessional. Mind you he did not do this while my cousin was paying. Needless to say it was a huge let down to wait three weeks for a $200+ dinner that was incredibly below standard. I've thought about giving it another chance, however how I was treated when it came to the cook of the steak and paying, I probably will not go back. read more
