Quality is taking a nose dive, service is still good and it's a beautiful and fun spot but man the food is dropping quick.

Beautiful weather calls for an outdoor bar on the water and Mott's Creek Inn definitely didn't disappoint. The establishment sits right on a narrow waterway with boat / bay access. Everybody else had the same idea as we did (it was PACKED for Labor Day Weekend!) but we still managed to grab a high top in the sun as most of the patrons were at the outdoor bar near the band or at the indoor bar. To no fault of their own, it was a little difficult to put in food/drink orders but the bartenders and servers were working incredibly hard and non-stop. We had an array of different drinks including Rum Runners, Tequila Sunrises, Rum & Cokes, and draft beers (pretty good craft options on tap if I must say - we had Dogfish Head 60 min IPA and Dogfish Head Grateful Dead). My mom and fiancé really liked their Rum Runners and I loved my Tequila Sunrise. We eventually put food in as well, just a bunch of appetizers to split which we love to do. We had Garlic Parm Tails (sauce was good!), Nachos, and Drunken Clams. The Middlenecks were cooked well and served in a white wine butter sauce. The food is pretty much what you'd expect from a dive-esque bar. Even with the hour long drive we had both ways, the location being right on the water and the vibes offer plenty of reason to keep coming back. read more

Hard to know Motts is where it is: on a tiny turtle filled road! You can eat inside at the bar or in the porch, which is better. The porch overlooks the water. Service was just ok because our server was hard to find. She was polite, but either new or distracted by whatever was going on inside. I got the dry rub Caribbean wings: really good. I wish there were more. Interesting the celery didn't have blue with it but it was fine. The blue burger was pretty tasty. The burger was taller than the distance my teeth could spread, so you might have to eat it both in customary hand position and upside down. I wish I could give a 0 star review. I was looking forward to coming all summer with my girlfriend because she has never been. I visited for lunch with her and was told to sit where ever I liked, so we did that. We were ignored for over 15 minutes until I decided to grab a servers attention, who also avoided eye contact and walked right past us. So we waited longer and then I went inside to figure out why no one was serving us. I was then ignored by several servers inside and we decided to walkout without any service!!! Fantastic spot. I didn't expect good quality food but was pleasantly surprised. Gator bites, clams, fish and chips were really good. We also got some oysters. Food can be hit or miss, and the service lackluster. However, I recall a seafood chowder special being drool-worthy. Don't bother with the sandwiches. On a very lovely dock but beware of greenheads that bite and seagulls who scoop off of your plate. Fantastic live bands regularly, but not on the side with the water view. Yes, this is an incredibly beautiful setting with turtle crossing warnings posted by neighbors concerned about terrapins and yes, they remind you of the 25-mph speed limit for the beautiful drive from Route 9 to paradise, which should bother no one who is looking for the escape from the world and a delicious meal that Mott's Creek offers (No apologies to the biker reviewer who wanted to speed down this seaside road with her bike disturbing nature and humanity.). If you are looking to escape from the world ... enjoy good food along with solid customer-focused service and a view that people around the world wish they should have when they sit down for a meal ... well Mott's Creek Inn offers you all of this. I still can't believe we never have visited before ... the outside patio area has been designed with care creating a diner/drinker friendly space with a view across the bay towards the Atlantic Ocean, which is just on the other side of the horizon. The staff greets you warmly providing menu's and asking if you have made a beverage choice. (Although we ate outdoors, we ventured inside the Inn and discovered a huge bar and seating that is focused on the purity of the bay that can be viewed through the wall-sized window to the east.). The menu is short and sweet. Some interesting special on the chalk board also provide added temptation. As a soup lover I knew I had to try the tomato bisque special (It is South Jersey tomato season!). Knowing that the clams are more than likely delivered daily by local clam farmers, we both went for the clams in white sauce adding in the pasta. OH, MY AMAZING ... this might be the BEST Tomato Bisque restaurant-created soup I have ever had. There's another local joint a mile or two away with a great well-deserved reputation for their tomato bisque but the Mott's Creek kitchen ... WOW, I practically licked the bowl. PLUS, I love when restaurants think about crackers and offer oyster crackers rather than saltines. Made us hungry for the main course. We saw an amazing fish fry pass us by and the french fries looked so good on another person's table (I almost reached over when their back was turned.). As the server approached with our plates all we could see was a mountain of clams ... YES!!! Ok, so amidst all the praise and all the happy nature observing and tranquility there were a couple of reasons costing Motts Creek Inn a star. So, these were not major faux pas's but ... they could be fixed. 1. Asked the server what pasta came with the clams? She didn't know but was pretty sure it was spaghetti ... we said that we'd prefer linguine, but spaghetti would work but the clams were served with penne. Perhaps penne soak up white sauce better because after all you can get some in their tunnels but come on ... do the traditional thing and keep some boxes of spaghetti/linguine in the cupboard (Clearly not homemade pasta BTW). And, no offers of "Would you like extra parmesan cheese? Or ground pepper?"). 2. I had a closed clam amongst my clams ... in other words I was served a DEAD before cooked clam, which is not the healthiest thing for a human to consume. This bay-side inn's cooks should be checking for firmly closed clam shells as they spoon them onto diner's plates. Believe me, these clams were so good and plentiful I would not have noticed one less clam on my plate, but I definitely noticed the tightly shut shell. 3. The on-table printed, and laminated beer list was WRONG ... several of those beers are not available. Of course, I was really happy with the choice that was not on the list but be careful about creating laminated lists on tables that are incorrect. It's easier to run off a daily list or just have the server arrive table side with a list to share. 4. This next criticism is more than likely merely personal preferences, but the white sauce was "too liquidy" and that one piece of tasty garlic bread was not enough to soak up the sauce. Either the broth should be thickened by the kitchen, some poured off, or another piece of bread offered or included. The white sauce was deliciously garlicy and clam flavored but ... could have been fixed. 5. Finally, there was a dessert special on the chalk board priced beyond $10. The price and name were intriguing (We were pleasantly full so we were not going to order dessert.) so we asked the server what the dessert was. Her reply was that she didn't know. That she thought it sounded good but no one had ordered it ... well if she thought it sounded good shouldn't she have asked the kitchen about it or perhaps management should make sure servers know the menu by heart allowing them to sample the specials. We will be back ... tranquility is something we all need and you can find it right off of Route 9 in Galloway! read more

It is what it is, and you have to embrace Motts Creek for what it is. A fun dive bar located off Rt 9 in Galloway NJ. They have a great outdoor area that is closed mid Fall thru mid Spring. Bear Bones bar that I have not seen since my days in Mississippi with the exception of it's beautiful location right on the water. Go to Motts and look for the fun. We stumbled upon this hidden gem last year and have been back at least half a dozen times since. What a great location and cute, low key restaurant and bar. They have live music some nights in the summer. They an indoor and outdoor bar and picnic style patio seating. You can even drive up to their dock on your boat or wave runner! We have been here several times. Service has been terrible every time. Shame on us for giving them several chances and thinking it would improve. Will never return. Food took almost two hours... and the bar area wasn't even busy. Appetizers were cold. Half of the table was finished eating before the other half was even served. Instead of an apology the servers were EXTREMELY rude. Never once asked if we needed anything else. Had to ask for more utensils, napkins and drinks... because our waitress was too busy FaceTiming. One burger never even showed up and one was cold and well-done... even though it was supposed to be medium rare. Had to ask for it to been taken off the bill because it was not edible. She came back with attitude and said they would only take off half bc half was eaten... Which was not true. The other uneaten half was on a separate plate. Didn't bother to argue. Food was amazing. Do yourself a favor and get the firecracker shrimp. OMG, sooooo good! If you don't like spicy food, you just have to pace yourself while eating them, but the flavor is amazing!!! Next on the must-have list are the stuffed potato skins. They are amazing!!!! We sat outside and service was a little on the slow side, but I think it was because they were so busy. Flys didn't bug us at all despite the fly being their logo. They have an inside bar and an outside bar and music was poppin' on a Sunday afternoon. Drinks were really good too. I had the Sex on the Deck and it was pretty strong but a very good sweet drink (I only drink those super girly drinks). My main dish was a chicken sandwich with lump crab meat on it and while it sounds like it would be amazing, it wasn't that flavorful so I won't be getting that again. My mom got a salad with shrimp and crab on it with mango dressing and it was AMAZING! On this occasion, we arrived by jet skis and were able to tie them to the dock. You guys, this is it. It's the perfect combination of dive bar meets beach bar. You can get to Motts by driving through the woods until you hit the bay (and the end of the road), or you can come by boat (if it's not December). Inside you'll find a place that is mostly bar, outside you'll find a place that's..well mostly bar. This place is all about boozing and bar food, and I loved every second of it. A funky place that's straight out of "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". (If it hasn't yet been featured on that show, it probably will be eventually.) Probably the best crab cakes I've ever had, made with real crabmeat and very little filler. However, my wife's crab & shrimp salad featured a paucity of crab and shrimp. She suggests charging a bit more and adding more protein. But service was very cordial, and there is a full bar that dominates the center of the room. Also accessible by boat. read more

This is probably one of my favorite places to visit every time I'm in town. Such a beautiful view. The service is always nothing but fantastic, make sure to sit at the bar and ask for Cherie! She's the best!!! Trust me. They are KNOWN for their seafood. Their chowder is incredible, their crab legs are fantastic and their sandwiches are ridiculous. If it continues no motorcycles will be permitted at motts. This is the type of place where all the locals go. We stopped in only the way to Smithville Village because not only did they have outside tables overlooking water, but it was pet friendly too. Traveling with the pup and getting good eats can be a challenge! This establishment was great. We started with shrimp, clams and oysters. They made a tuna seared (cooked to perfection) wrap with lettuce and tomato (at my request...WW compliant), and hamburger, also cooked perfectly..med rare) served on a perfect tasty bun with onion rings. Thank goodness there were no green heads due a slight breeze. I was here on a Monday afternoon and it was quiet outside but the inside bar was quit the opposite. Our service was timely and our server, Skylar was very social and efficient. Look for daily offers. Don't judge this place based on the negative reviews. Absolutely awful, I would not waste your time. The service terrible. Waited over an out for food, which was mostly fried appetizers. And then never received half our order. What we did actually receive was cold and bland. When we asked to speak to a manager all we received was "it's 4th of July weekend" which it was Wednesday. We received so much attitude, the place was not even remotely full, so I really didn't understand the long wait for food. Obviously very poorly managed. Very poor communication and disgusting food. Will never go back would recommend that you don't waste your time. Better places to spend your money. read more
