First off I thought the vibe was a little "vanilla" / it was bright open and airy but didn't really have any personality - this the 4-star review. Came to Camarillo for a birthday party and had time to spare. Looked up breweries and Flat Fish Brewing came up. What a pleasant surprise and the beer was excellent. Started with an ale and then went to the Long Drift IPA.(excellent) What I enjoyed about this brewery was their customer service. I asked to taste a couple of the beers and without hesitation she asked my friend if he wanted to taste something. I ended up tasting four of their beers. The difference with this place and other breweries I've been to where they give you this look when you ask for a taste of the beer. Why should you buy a beer and not enjoy it. Everyone knows that breweries are popping up all over the place, so they should be happy to let you try the beer before you buy it. Definitely will stop by here again when I'm in the area or on my way to Santa Barbara. read more

Love flat fish! The wine is so amazing, the flights, tastings and by the glass, we became wine club members. All the staff are very friendly and so knowledgeable. It's a very laid back, welcome environment--I went Saturday night, got to watch live music, which was awesome and the ambiance was spectacular. Then we went back again Sunday because we loved it so much. We were able to play corn hole (which isn't available when live music is playing the night before, for obvious reasons, totally understandable) and do a wine tasting. Came here because they serve both wine and beer that are made on premise. Wife tried the Strawberry Shandy which she said was delicious. I had a five flight if beers. All the beers tasted great. The Blonde and the Octoberfest were my favorites. Talked with the owner/winemaker/brewmaster who was very friendly. Invited us on a tour of the facilities and talked to us about his experiences in the business. Relaxed atmosphere and not crowded at all. Poor customer service. The lady at the front desk is just plain rude. The beer is a bit pricey and vibe is a bit more warehouse / stockroom than brewery but really it was just the customer service that made this stop the worst on my group's local brewery tour. Maybe this place just caters to an older crowd but unfortunately my group of 20-30 year olds felt unwelcome and out of place. read more

Was trying to celebrate a bachelorette party here. The owners did NOT explain that corn hole was disrespectful to the artist present and took it away mid-game. Our whole party was sure very disappointed in how we were treated and how the owners spoke to us. We won't be returning. The owner will probably reply with an excuse, however, that is to save face. Beer and wine were fine, cheese plate was like a kids lunchable with ritz crackers and the simplistic grocery store cheese, nachos were delicious but would be better with chicken or beef. Cute kids corner for families. Wine barrel room is really cool. The brewmasters wife asked my group 3 times how we heard about them, seemed confused, and was unable to give beer recommendations based on styles or breweries we like. Other staff was friendly and attentive, and were able to make recommendations (the group favorites were the Grunions run and Long drift). Clean bathrooms (amen) and tasting/tap room room was clean as well. Not sure I'll be back- nothing horrible to keep me away, but nothing that impressed me enough to add it to the brewery rotation. Welcome Flatfish to Cam! First and foremost- We were very impressed with the beers. Really enjoyed all the IPAs! They really have some steep competition in town (IAC), and they honestly held up with beer! We will definitely be back again and again. They also had some tasty snacks, that we totally enjoyed too. (Would totally recommend they get some real dishware, it was yummy (The. Cheesy Artichoke Dip) but out of a throw away paper plate and bowl it looked like a let down. They also have a wonderful little kids area! This is a HUGE draw to the families in Ventura Co. ! The interior could use a little love- some more style! We love grey- but they need some pops of color! Maybe new tables, more welcoming/updated seating area by the kids area?) Over all- Super excited they are here! We will be back! This place makes me so happy! I'm more into wine and my husband is into the beer... here you can do flights of both! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. The flight of reds were great and my husband really enjoyed their IPAs. They serve small bites and snacks. Shrimp vs chef food truck was there so didn't have to go elsewhere for dinner. No wonder this place is empty! Feels like a Drs office. Beer is not good and the woman upfront was ridiculous my review was taken down because I didn't say enough! From the minute you walk in you are not greeted with a hello you are told go sanitize your hands and you walk up to get something you are just stared at no engaging no hi what do you like? Have you been here before? Then you are told abruptly you have to buy food, which is fine but they never bring it to you and when you ask for a refund because you never got it she said well you don't have to take it now but you don't get a refund! We had a good experience here! As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with friendly and helpful faces. It's great they offer both beer and wine. They wines were good. They had live music and the singer was amazing! The only downfall was the food... the charcuterie board was way overpriced for what you get. $28 for ritz crackers, salami and 3 cheeses with a small amount of almonds, grapes and apricots. Extremely rude and happy to go to Rincon, Made West, institution and never go back to this empty place......we tried. Oh my gosh the cheese plate is a freaking lunchable and they never brought us this lunchable so when we left after the beer was awful she said too bad its the law you don't have to take it but you have to pay for it. She had no idea who we were with and her laws she tried to quote. Then telling us that institution is breaking the law. I have it all recorded. Had some friends who were members of the wine club here and they know I am into craft beers so we all went Saturday eve to have some wine and beers. It was my first time here and I loved the atmosphere! Cool set up in the beer side with tables chairs and a nice view. The mngr Deb was super nice and had a great attitude! We even met the owners Mike, Kris, who were super nice! They took time to really talk with myself and group. The beers were ice cold and tasty! Great selection of IPA's and even a good porter. Really great brewery that needs more exposure. I came here with three friends and we were all very impressed with the beers. I tried the resilience IPA and the long drift, IPA and they were outstanding! There's LOTS of space (with a cornhole setup), and the owners and staff are very friendly. I love what they do with beers. Each has a distinctive flavor profile. Absolutely one of the best brewery's in the county. Why four stars? They put no flavor in the tap room. Grey walls and flat tables. There is so much potential they squandered with a complete lack of imagination and style. A bar would have been awesome as well as some high tables to break up the space. Could have capitalized on the name, and beer names, with decor. Hope you see the potential and hire someone to create a space as quality as your beer. read more

Came there with a group of friends for a bachelorette party. We were all VERY disappointed with the owners and how they treated us. The other staff were Amazing. However, we were playing corn hole and they took the boards away mid-game, told us it was disrespectful to the talent, and wouldn't let us play any longer. This is after we had bought a bottle, food, and numerous beers. The owners made the effort to make us feel as though we were being distractful. While their beer is good, their customer service and pricing policy are awful. We needed a keg quickly for a family party, and paid their asking price which we felt was very high. We later compared prices at other breweries and found the going rate was half what Flat Fish was charging. When we returned the empty keg and questioned the price we had paid, we were told by the wife of the owner that they could charge whatever they liked! She was very rude and snobby. We will never, ever, buy beer there again! read more

Update: I wrote a response to the owner's response to my review, but I guess that doesn't get posted. Just to clarify--I wasn't there to get a quote for an event--I was stopping by. The only thing I can think of is that there was a misunderstanding of the word "event" and maybe they don't allow groups to come when they are open to other patrons (though I did explain that it was a networking group and I might buy some appetizers). My issue was that the amount for space rent was ridiculous given the space--but if we couldn't be there during normal hours, I understand a bit more. I still don't know. Her arrogant, blaming response really illustrates her attitude. I was certainly NOT looking for free food! I'm taking my group back to the Stonehaus, which is a pain for me geographically, but everything is straight-forward and friendly there (and the space is free since the group buys lots of drinks and some food). read more

Been a huge fan of this place since the beginning. Beers are tasty, my personal favorite is the Bowen Point Blonde, but they do some very good IPAs, Brown Ales and Porters too. Very clean, simple place to relax and has an amazing sunset view. The owners, Mike and Chris Brown, along with the rest of their awesome staff, do an amazing job. They are friendly and very accommodating. They don't only do beer, they have a wine tasting room next door at Cantara Cellars where they pour some excellent wines. Or, you can enjoy a glass of wine inside the brewery taproom (they pour their wines there too). You have the best of both worlds going on. Flat Fish Brewery/Cantara Cellars recently hosted my 50th Birthday party in their pretty large barrel room. We had about 220 people show up and there was plenty of room. We also had a live band, a DJ, food catered and a photobooth, and we still had room for dancing. Everything went so good and, once again, their staff was amazing, handling all my friends and family. In my opinion, definitely a great place to visit if you want to enjoy cold brews or some delicious wines. No food, but they do host food trucks from time to time, and they have some generous serving size cheese & fruit plates. Stop by and check them out. Cheers read more
