I went to Flat Rock Bakery for the first time this weekend to spend a gift card a friend had gotten me, and I was excited to try it. I know they can be busy, so when I drove by around 11am and there were parking spots in their tiny lot and no line out the door I thought I'd pick up lunch. There was no one in line when I entered so I ordered (sandwich and a salad) I figured it would be about a 15 minute or so wait. The place got very busy after I ordered, but I figured I'd beat the crowd. After waiting 25 minutes (browsing in the Wrinkled Egg and the sitting at an indoor table scrolling FB) I went up by the counter to check on my order. They don't use pager and simply call out customer names, so I worried I'd missed my name being called. I stopped a woman who appeared to be a manager and asked if she knew how much longer it would be. She was very rude and said "It's 30 minutes for a sandwich. There's a sign up front!" As I glanced through the crowd, the sign she was referring to is a small sign on top of the bakery case. You'd think they would tell people that when they order. As I continued to wait, I took in the ambience...it was overcrowded and not very welcoming, the staff seemed a stressed, and overall the vibe was chaotic. I must say the food was pretty good, but not worth the bad energy injected into my day. Needless to say, I won't be back! read more

The bread, the crust, toasted just right, crispy bacon, nice amount of avocado. We ordered bakery items to take home. It was nice to have a gluten free and dairy free option. I've been coming here for 19 years. Wonderful atmosphere, even when it's slammed. Delicious food, cooked very well. My favorites are the chocolate chip scone, the mushroom soup (I see it in my dreams) the pesto asiago bagel, and the sourdough bread. Service is great. I love walking in to see the workers laughing and talking with each other, hopefully the work environment and pay are representative of the great work they do. I drove out here on a rainy day after apple picking. The place is fantastic. The first thing I did was snap a picture of their bathroom paint job. Gorgeous. I know, I have a thing for bathrooms. I also have a thing for sticky buns, cinnamon rolls, or whatever you want to call it. So despite all the croissants with almonds, chocolate, or ham & cheese, I mulled over the cinnamon raisin swirl or pecan sticky buns. I went for the latter because someone in front of me got one and as they lifted the sticky bun, I saw it for all its glory. Whereas the cinnamon raisin swirl looked good, it was already pre-cut and not oozing anymore. I drank my coffee and sat down with a sticky bun reading the newspaper they provided for about an hour. The sticky bun is full of flavor - sweet, tons of pecans, and it has raisins. So unlike last week when I was over at another bakery, the sticky bun here lasted and was sticky till the end. The reviews looked good, so we decided to eat lunch here following a morning full of picking apples at Justus Orchard. It has a big patio that is covered so you can enjoy eating outside without the hot sun beating down on you. The inside is really small. So, we know we had to eat outside. It looked like a High School track team arrived, so the wait was a little long - about 20 minutes in line, then ordered. Once we ordered it took awhile to get our sweet tea, it was busy and everyone must have ordered the tea. The food was spectacular. We ordered the turkey avocado sandwich, chicken salad sandwich with a salad and the Avocado BLT.The sourdough bread was out of this world! I should have bought a loaf as we left. Overall a good experience but it did take a long time to get our food and tea, but I wouldn't hold that against them because of the track team arrived. Always great food no matter what I order. All the employees I've interacted with have been very nice and professional. They have outside pickup during these weird times and their deck seating is very nice. I haven't looked into if they have delivery but that's not a big deal for me since I love driving around our area. On another note, I ordered a medium, maybe 10in, cake for my lady's birthday (8/2019). it was a big winner with everybody, family and friends. If you're a tourist, there are many things to do in the area that are around flat rock bakery. I would suggest the Glassy Mountain hike on the Carl Sandberg property, or even going there to see/pet the goats and then going to Flat Rock Bakery to reward yourself. Based on the positive reviews we decided to try this baker and we ordered a simple yellow cake with chocolate frosting for a celebration. This cake was truly inedible. It had a cornbread texture with a rancid after taste and the frosting just tasted like cocoa powder. After a few bites, the whole thing went into the trash. read more

I really wanted to enjoy my experience at this place. The food on the menu sounds delicious. I came in at 11:30 on a weekend and tried to order avocado toast. The girl at the register said I couldn't get it because breakfast was over (keep in mind the WEBSITE clearly says they serve breakfast items until noon on weekends). Also, it's just bread and avocado LOL. Beyond that, all of the workers were extremely unfriendly and acted annoyed towards customers. While dropping our daughter off at a local camp recently, my family and I stopped into The Wrinkled Egg to check things out. Conveniently attached to this establishment is the Flat Rock Village Bakery. Known for wood-fired organic artisan breads, we tried the classic Margarita pizza. This pizza contained the village scratch tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil. Not a bad pizza, I must say. It was only about 14" and we ate the entire pie. Coffee was a local roast, although I can't quite remember its name. Restrooms were clean and parking was at a premium as it is shared with several attached businesses. Amazing Pizza people!! They really know how to make a wonderful job here!! The Service is amazingly courteous, and your food comes right away. We were having a fun day visiting the waterfalls in the surrounding, and this was the perfect stop for a delicious quick meal. They also have a shop attached to the restaurant where you can look while you wait for your food. We snacked at the Bakery 18 months ago, on our last trip through Flat Rock. This time, after visiting Connemara on a hot sweaty day, I knew where to head close by for something tasty and cold; Flat Rock Village Bakery did NOT disappoint! We had simple iced tea, with great oatmeal raisin almond cookies, out of this world good! We cooled off, used the wi-fi, and planned the rest of our visit in Hendersonville. When we visited the Lime Leaf Restaurant for dinner, my wife told their waitress that earlier she visited the Flat Rock Village Bakery and had a oatmeal raisin almond cookie. What a great little bakery/cafe and a totally hidden gem! I would have never even known about this place until my husbands uncle suggested this for dinner. I was hoping to try one of the amazing looking sandwiches, but for some reason that night they were doing pizza only. At first I was extremely worried because I am lactose intolerant and cheese on pizza is something that makes me sick. I had mentioned that to the girls at the counter and was told they do have vegan cheese, so that made me really happy. I tried the veggie pizza with the vegan cheese and it was spectacular! I ate way more then I should have, but had some of the best pizza of my life. The outdoor seating area is really cute, quaint, and perfect for a lazy Friday evening meal.
