Last day of the open water dives at Aurora Reservoir!
    Kaitlyn L.

I can't say enough positive things about this dive shop and their staff! I just completed my open water scuba certification with Flatirons Scuba and it was an awesome experience. The first weekend I completed my pool dives with Mike (instructor) and Mark (divemaster). I was nervous about scuba diving and they eased my nerves through their teaching style and encouragement. They gave me confidence going into my open water dives the following weekend. For the open water dives I went to Aurora Reservoir and completed the course under the direction of Caleb (instructor) and Nick (divemaster). I'll be honest, diving at the reservoir is not exactly the best time. Visibility is really low and there's just nothing to see. However, Caleb and Nick made the entire group feel comfortable, confident, and most importantly made us laugh. Even though it was terrible diving conditions, I'm really happy that I was able to complete my open water dives locally so when I'm on my honeymoon I can enjoy the dives! Caleb told us after you dive in the reservoir you'll feel really confident diving in beautiful oceans (totally believe it)! I really appreciate everyone in the shop that helped me along the way. They all were so supportive and made for a wonderful experience. Side tip: if you have challenges equalizing your ears buy the scuba ear plugs - life changing!!!

My husband and I have always been interested in scuba diving, but we didn't take the plunge (see…read morewhat I did there) until early 2025. We're so grateful we got connected with Denver Divers through their adaptive diving program. Even though I've had an interest in scuba diving, I was really nervous to actually try it. I was able to attend a Try Scuba event at Denver Divers, and was immediately hooked (see what I did again). I was paired with an instructor who explained the basics of diving, had time to try out the diving in the pool, and was able to ask questions afterwards. Once we decided to proceed, we were paired with an instructor, Vince, who put as totally at ease about diving. We were given an online training program, in person classes, and two training sessions. I felt comfortable asking questions and learning from my mistakes. I felt super prepared by the time I was getting certified. We ended up taking a group trip and got open water certified in Honduras. I ended up doing 23 dives and built some new core memories. It was wild to see all the different marine life (including a friendly little shark), to see coral up close, and to explore a shipwreck. On top of all of this, we also have started to build our community of divers. All of the instructors are so passionate about diving and really enjoy teaching others how to safely dive. We are looking forward to staying connected and to more future group dive trips.

A special thank you to Cheryl, the director, who runs such a thoughtful and well-structured program. You can tell a lot of care goes into how the school is organized and how families are supported. Our swim coach, Megan, has been fantastic. She is patient, encouraging, and wonderful with kids. We especially appreciate how patient she is with our son on days when he's not as excited about swimming or wants to test boundaries. Megan stays calm, consistent, and keeps realistic expectations while gently following through with directions and the skills they're working on. Her steady and encouraging approach has made such a difference. We're so grateful for the positive environment they've created and highly recommend Denver Divers to families looking for quality swim instruction. ‍

They were easy and pleasant to work with to get the classes set up. We had our first class today. I attended the class today as well. Our teacher was professional and personable. The girls that were able to go today also all really enjoyed themselves! What a great experience! I can't wait for my other girls to be able to try it. And my daughter is now interested in getting scuba certified as well! Great job Ocean First! Thank you so much for everything!

Julie was incredibly knowledgeable and made sure to make us all feel comfortable with the variety of skills we needed to know to safely dive for the first time. I felt very prepared from the pool sessions she led to be able to do my open water certification and sessions out in Hawaii. I wasn't able to finish out my certification through Ocean First due to time constraints, but the Dive Instructor out in Hawaii was incredibly impressed with my proficiency underwater, stating that if I hadn't been signed up for the course, they would have assumed I was a much more experienced diver. I lend much of that to the great instruction I had here in the pool. I cannot recommend the course enough and certainly suggest everyone who wants to learn to dive to stop by.

The weekend ended with completing her classroom/pool certification and moving on to dives 1 and 2 for open water certification. Those dives were at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver. I had the opportunity to sit by the segment of the tank where they were going through all the skills they learned in class. It was a lot of hard work over the course of one weekend but worth it. The store staff was always welcoming. They helped us with fitting her with the right mask, the right fins and a few other necessities. We had also booked for her to do dives 3 and 4 to complete open water certification the next month at Blue Hole in New Mexico. On the second day of her weekend class, we had her measured for the dive suit she would need for the New Mexico dive. At that time we made arrangements for when we would pick up her tank, weights, suit and vest for that excursion. A few weeks later it was time for New Mexico. One of her instructors, Heather, was in contact via email to let her know the schedule and to provide the information for getting her diving permit for that site. Heather was helpful answering questions. On the morning of our road trip, we popped into the shop shortly after they opened and picked up her gear for the dive. At Blue Hole, the A-1 instructors, Heather and Carol, were informative and got the group ready for their descent. My daughter had some difficulty with one of her mask skills and both Heather and Carol worked with her until she was able to get the skill down that she needed to complete. Highly recommend A-1 Scuba. The instructors want to see their students succeed. They are patient and encouraging.

I haven't been diving with them for an extended period now due to health related issues, but I'm planning a trip with them sometime in the hopefully not too distant future to motivate me as I go through addressing some of these problems via appropriate surgical procedures . Just knowing my reward for having these procedures done will be a dive trip with them is providing motivation for my pre-surgical pre-rehab routine and post op. Prehab is the exercises and activities you do before a surgery in order to optimize the surgical recovery and results . Diving is such an intoxicating activity. I could think of none better to serve this function. The inherent joy of diving is enhanced when you go with an A1 sponsored trip because you typically meet a great group of people and share a lot of spectacular diving as well as fun post diving activities. Yes and one or two libations might enter the picture. Thank you everyone at A-1!! I can't believe that after all these years of you providing excellent services and equipment to me that I didn't take the time to acknowledge your excellence before.

Thank God we had AAA The many many years of old fashioned advice from my now 97-year-old former biochemist/ mountain climber father rang in my ears as my daughter and her girl friend drove away from San Diego with my dad's old Honda -- a gift. They had NEVER been out West ( born in Connecticut raised in Virginia and now Minneapolis). AND it was boiling hot also last July 2016-- they were driving Nevada Arizona Monument Valley to 4 corners to DENVER and finally home to minneapolis. I had driven cross country with my family in 1962 and been through all these statMy father's words after years of us living in Salt Lake City " ALWAYS keep your car tuned up... out there , all it takes is just a LITTLE rain, and you are driving out here and the road dips into a gully... you look up and a HUGE wall of water can be coming crashing towards you... so you hit the gas and GET OUT of that gully ASAP". So I took a crazy wild chance and called AAA Roadside assistance ( Phoenix). A warm gentleman answered and I told him how scared worried I was for my very green inexperienced daughter. I told him she was driving all the way through Monument Valley. Could he please tell me exactly where the gas stations were and other safety advice for these 2 young women. He gave me the locations distance but MOST IMPORTANT... he said, " tell her if it starts raining she must immediately stop... Monument Valley has terrible terrible flash floods and if she gets caught out there we will not be able to come out and save her.., it is very dangerous." I found out later long after she drove home that trip, that huge black storm clouds were behind them as they drove last July. THEY LISTENED to the ADVICE AAA GAVE US and drove 90 mph stopping only for essential gas NO SIGHTSEEING until they were out and safe on high ground in Utah across the border. AND THANK GOD I called the DENVER AAA office as well‼ the girls were planning on driving fast and diagonally to Denver through the middle of the state of Colorado . AAA DENVER SAID ," NO NO NO ‼‼‼... the roads through that area may turn into dirt roads and our flash floods at this time will COMPLETELY WASH OUT THESE ROADS... she needs to drive straight North in the far western area off the state all the way to the crowded under construction slower interstate to Denver...
