I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and ate at the Flatz restaurant either for breakfast or dinner almost every day for the entirety of my stay. Pros: Staff is nice Cons: Food is very subpar (and I'm not that hard to please). They got my order wrong several times. Long wait (even when it wasn't crowded). Very disappointed in the quality of their food and the fact the cooks can't get basic orders correct. It's a shame, because this is a very nice hotel, but the food is just terrible (and I tried just about everything on the menu). The best items they have are desserts- the caramel cheesecake (which they forgot the caramel topping on the 2nd time I ordered this- one of the main ingredients and selling points of the caramel cheesecake), and creme brule is good as well. read more

A breakfast and a light dinner during a recent stay at the host hotel. Both were good. Just fine. Dinner was a solid Caesar wedge salad...a good dressing croutons and shaved parm. The stuffed potato soup was good...thick, rich flavorful with bacon and cheese on top, Good service. The breakfast was a simple buffet. Option of a small made to order omelette was nice...but the rest of the small spread was average at best. The support service was attentive. This is a review for the Mother's Day brunch- the restaurant is lovely and modern. The staff was friendly. It was clean and there was plenty of parking. I was looking forward to a meal that I didn't have to cook. $75 per adult and $30 for kids (10 and under) When booking my reservation I was told to "check out the menu on our Facebook page" so I did. A lot of the things listed weren't available the day of. The menu showed prime rib at the carving station but instead it was skirt steak and ham. The menu showed potatoes au gratin but the instead it was garlic mashed potatoes. The ham was a little dry but with the pepper jelly provided it was my favorite thing offered that day. The scrambled eggs were in a large dish and it was one big lump of egg. I couldn't cut the chicken. My kids go-to is waffles- neither of them finished their waffles. The dessert room/area was ok- but I was hoping for more variety. My coffee was never refilled.. I had to ask for water refills for the kids. For $75 per adult I expected this brunch to be completely over the top. I expected to leave stuffedI was underwhelmed and severely disappointed. The quality just wasn't there. read more

Very, very slow service. Food was mediocre. I was staying in the attached hotel for a work trip and decided to eat here. I ordered a salad and a side of fries for my dinner. I waited roughly 40 minutes for my food. When the food finally arrived, the fries were cold. The salad was a basic Caesar salad (no protein added, so nothing to cook) so not sure why it took so long. The salad was a wedge salad, which I had never seen for a Caesar salad before. I did not care for it as the dressing was not really distributed throughout the lettuce. Additionally, I was dining alone so it's not like they held my food back while waiting for the rest of my party's food to be ready. I was also charged for the wrong size of wine, which ended up putting me over my per diem. My food was priced fairly, but the appetizers, sandwiches and entrees were all pretty expensive ($14 cauliflower appetizer, $20 sandwich). When it comes to 5 star reviews, I only give them out to place that I feel went above and beyond and this was certainly the case here. The service was excellent from the time we sat down to the moment we left. The food was absolutely divine. I ordered the pork chop dinner and was stunned as how good it was. Thick, meaty, cooked perfectly, and was placed upon a fresh bed of crisp, fresh vegetables in a thick, rich, velvety cream sauce that made my taste buds feel as though they were tasting real food for the first time. The above and beyond is when the manager himself came out to our table and gave us a free dessert (due to a timing error causing our food to be a few minutes late) Great staff, great food, great restaurant. read more

Visited during a business trip with some clients. We shared Brussel sprouts and Parmesan fries. Deeeelicious. The Brussels were some of the best I have ever had. For lunch I got the ancient grain salad sans the Mandarin oranges. I also put a juicy piece of salmon on the top. Mmmmmmm, was so good. The dressing was a little too much, next time I would put it on the side, but dang.....great salad. After all that food, I still felt energetic for the afternoon meetings. I was offered free breakfast buffet vouchers for each morning of my stay, since I'm a Platinum member and they do not have a concierge lounge. The buffet has a great spread, compared to other Marriott properties I've been to. They also have a dedicated chef for custom omelette's; I ordered the Denver omelette (coincidentally one of my favorites), along with fresh-squeezed juice just made for a great meal. This is only for Flatz lounge/Bar menu. We went to the Bar on a Friday night after a movie. They serve food until 11 pm in a nice atmosphere, not crowded, so we decided to give it a try. The menu has a decent selection of unpretentious food and the portions were generous. My cocktail was also good and I think everything was at a decent price. We were promptly served and the bartender was very professional and friendly. The food and atmosphere are not amazing, but overall the experience was very pleasant. So we'll go back considering how limited the options are in the area to get food after a movie at Flatirons (after 10 pm). read more

Ordered the meat trio dinner which came with rabbit sausage, elk steak, buffalo steak. The food was presented well but one steak was extremely under cooked. I like rare steak just not blue. I informed a waitress of the situation she took the one steak back to kitchen and I never seen a replacement. My original waiter I seen 2x once to take order once to collect bill. In the end the waiter took off a small amount for missing steak. At this point I could have cared less just wanted to pay and leave. We had a team dinner at the Renaissance Flatz restaurant. They sat us in a private area which is separated by a sheer wall. Ambiance is upscale hotel. Wings and truffle fries were a great start to the dinner. Drinks were a bit watery and underwhelming. For dinner I ordered filet mignon. While it was tender and cooked medium rare as requested, it lacked flavor. I had to salt the broccoli and simply couldn't eat the au gratin potatoes for lack of flavor and bad texture. Dessert we had the strawberry shortcake. It was more of a scone with barely pink strawberries on top. I will likely not return for dinner. I have heard breakfast is much better. read more

Oh Flatz, how quickly you ruined an otherwise pretty decent dining experience with what could have been so easily avoided. We stopped into Flatz tonight for dinner and as we usually do, opted to sit at the bar. This place had been on our list for awhile and we had a coupon for a free entree - so why not? The atmosphere was OK - pretty much what you'd expect for a semi-upscale hotel bar & restaurant. We were greeted promptly and offered both full dinner menus and lounge menus. I decided I wanted a glass of wine and perused the offerings - the wines on the menu were in the $8 - 12 range. That's a little bit more than I wanted to pay. I spied a bottle of Mondavi near us and realized that of course they had a house wine. I decided the house Chardonnay would be the way to go (also Mondavi). We took a look at the menus and finally decided on the salmon (me) and Monkfish (him) entrees. They were happy to accommodate his onion issues and offered suggestions for substitutions for the onion-laden sauce on his entree. The service was generally a bit slow, and the food took a little while, but it was nothing overly alarming. Both of our entrees were really very good - the salmon hit the spot, as did the brussels sprouts and the celery root and white bean puree. Yum! I was however, overly alarmed when we got the check. Turns out that the house wine (did I tell you it was Mondavi?) is also priced at $8 a glass. Seriously? 2 small to average glasses of Mondavi Chardonnay ran me $16. I guess I should never assume that the house wine will be cheaper than the wine featured on the menu, so shame on me. But what I can't get over is that they are $8 for a glass for a wine that runs about $4.99 a bottle at wine & spirits store. I paid almost twice as much as the cost of a bottle for one glass! I should add that I'm more than happy to pay $8 for a quality glass of wine. In general, I really enjoy a glass of wine - even cheap wine with my dinner. However, I do not enjoy feeling like I've just gotten ripped off. For the $16 I spent on 2 glasses of cheap wine with my dinner I could have purchased 3 entire bottles at the store on my way home. So you heard it here first - Flatz, I enjoyed your food, and would have looked forward to another visit, but based on my experience tonight, I won't be back. read more

I have come here a few times. I will say that it is a much nicer/higher end restaurant with great food. I came for a date night and it just made the night seem more special because of the sleek environment and high quality of food. It is fairly pricy but I think the food is prepared in a way that justifies the price. They have a Sunday brunch until 1pm which is really only a buffet, however that is way too pricy and not the same quality as their lunch/dinner menu and I don't think it is worth it. My wife and I enjoy Flatz on the weekends for their breakfast buffet. It features all the usual favorites - made-to-order omelettes; breakfast meats (bacon, sausage); potatoes and hash browns; pancakes, waffles and breakfast pastries; oatmeal and cold cereals; fresh fruits and more -you can also order off the menu. The quality of the food is top-notch and they also seem to change things up slightly on the buffet (different sausages, potatoes, etc.) from visit to visit so it's always just a bit different. On quiet weekends, the staff does a great job, the buffet is well stocked and fresh and traffic flows well. On holidays (we took my father-in-law for Father's Day 2011) or when they're crowded with hotel guests, however, it gets hectic, there are long waits for foods to be replenished and the staff seems to get overwhelmed. This has happened to us a few times so you're safest going on a non-holiday weekend and/or when they're not overly crowded. We continue to come back based on the quality and selection of food. Finally, if you like biscuits and gravy, Flatz has one of the best I've ever had! Prices are average for a breakfast buffet - $15/person (not including tip) - with juice and coffee. This place is awesome for $4 Bottomless mimosas on Sundays. The downside is they only have a brunch buffet available on Sundays ($24 per person) but you can sit in the lounge (super awesome with fire pit and the football/sports games on TV) which has a basic pub-style menu available. Last time we came was on Saturday and their menu is pretty awesome - lots of game meat dishes. This restaurant is inside of a hotel - but you can barely tell once you are inside the restaurant/lounge. Enjoy! read more

Then the Flatiron steak which was a generous hunk of OK rump steak, cooked just right but buried in a monstrous amount of sauce that must have been 3000 calories in its own right. What a sauce it was! 1/4 lb of butter, 1/4 lb of white cheese, and plenty of salty, chemically, insanely rich brown gravy. OMG, way, way overboard which is where I wish I could could have spilled the sauce. I've been doing the Whole30 reset and travel a lot so it's been tough to find places that are willing to cater to my needs. The staff here is super friendly and really helpful and understanding. It started with breakfast - poached eggs over spinach with avocado and tomatoes. They even made me special hash browns with olive oil. Then I came for lunch- Cobb salad no feta or dressing. When I came to the chicken they had pre marinated chicken which wouldn't work so they went ahead and got fresh breast(chickenx2) and grilled them for me with just salt and pepper. So now I figured why mess a good thing up and try somewhere else so I came back for dinner. I with the executive sous chef and he said he'd help me out. We went to the restaurant for dinner. 1..they don't make the sausage in house. I doubt any one in the kitchen has tasted it. Its way too Spivey. Not everything has to burn your mouth. 2..stop with the fruit and nuts on a house salad...OMG...that's just too much of nothing good. At least ask if people want fruit with a salad in which I ordered blue cheese dressing...(which was actually really good). 3...duck should have a crispy texture in the outside. The duck far was way too fatty. I didn't even eat the filet because I could barely get a knife through it. The next morning we went down for breakfast. Don't bother. Our sloppy waiter told us that the buffet had almost everything from the menu. Come to find out...no. It didn't. I asked for hollandaise and I don't know what that was, but it wasn't hollandaise. The eggs were a pile of egg..,swear it looked like a rock formation. The service both dinner and breakfast was sloppy. Its ok to tell me AFTER I place my order, that you ran out of mussels, but don't tell me it's usually slow and you weren't prepared. We loved the hotel, but we will find other places to eat. For being a restaurant inside of a hotel (the Renaissance), in my experience this is a good restaurant. They offer a significantly sized nachos that can easily be shared between four people, maybe more. And the décor has a mountain-lodge feel, and they did a good job with it. The layout feels like it is a bit more than a casual dress area, but we (my wife and I) have yet to dress up much...I mean it's in the bottom floor of a hotel. Anyways, it's good enough that I would like to return...in fact I look forward to returning. They have had some neat specials in the past, wild game options the last time I was there. We have eaten Flatz food over the past 4 days for our conference and or room service. We had there burger with the sweet potato haystacks. SOOOOOOO good! We also had a ceasar salad and key lime pie. Both really yummy. In conference we had breakfast and I agree with Nekabue that the granola is super delish. I also liked the fluffyness of the eggs. For lunch we had Mexican food. The cheese enchiladas were so good. The chicken fajitas were awesome too with all the veggies. For dinner we had the sirlion and it was a little too pink for my liking. But the veggies were enough to fill me. The next day we had chicken salad for lunch. It was pretty good. The next day we had crispy french toast with strawberries and banana's. It was good. We had dinner at the bar one evening and also tried the AYCE breakfast. Both occasions were very good. To be honest, the food in Colorado in general is nothing to write home about, so you don't need to be at the superb level to get 5 stars from me. That being said, our dinner (salmon salad for me, steak for him) was perfectly cooked and delicious! We sat at the bar to watch the baseball game and our server was very good about making sure we had bread/water-refills/drinks. The cost of the AYCE breakfast is comparable to two breakfast entrees + coffee, so it is a good deal. There is a good selection of fruit and pastries and also an omelette station. Overall, prices aren't very high for a hotel restaurant and the service and quality are top-notch. Highly recommend it especially if you are staying at the hotel. read more
