We tried this restaurant one day because our car broke down at the gas station and had to wait for a tow truck. That car breaking down was the best thing to happen to us in awhile because this place is a real hidden gem. I had the curried chicken and my daughter had the jerked pork. Both were very delicious. However, the grilled jerk chicken wings are out of this world. We order them to go at least once a week. Worst jamaican spot in the Tampa Bay area. Let me start by saying that my fiance is Jamaican, and I've been familiar with their food and culture for a very long time. I've eaten in many jamaican restaurants - my best friend even owns one in Orlando. Normally when you order an ackee & saltfish breakfast, the plate is heavy and filled with banana, yam, and dumpling, in addition to the ackee and saltfish. I cant even finish most plates because of how much food they serve. These large plates average about $12. I went to Flavas to try them out for the first time since it's not too far from me. I ordered a large ackee and saltfish, assuming this would be another typical breakfast plate. I was given a large tray, with the ackee in one section of the plate, and charged $14. I was dumbfounded by what just happened. A scoop of ackee, placed in a large tray, is considered a large ackee!? No banana, no yam, no nothing. They are playing on people's ignorance and marking up the price heavily. I knew better, but purchased the plate just to share the pictures with everyone else. We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered and Food was very good and came quickly. The lady serving us made sure we were topped up on drinks and the restaurant was very clean. It was a good experience till it came to paying when we chose to leave a cash tip instead of tipping on my card and it felt like the lady wasn't happy when she saw the receipt and there was no tip but didn't realise we had left one on the table! I myself am West Indian and when every there's a new Jamaican place I gotta try the jerk chicken rice and peas with the steam cabbage, if they can't do that right then on to the next. So, here I ordered the jerk chicken rice and peas as well as the pepper shrimp and a pineapple and mango drink. The food was good, the seasoning on the chicken was great. The jerk sauce I was given was not what I expected, sweet? I don't know I like spice not sweet so that wasn't my favorite. The drink had ginger in it, if you don't like ginger then don't order it because it was heavy on the ginger. All in all I would definitely go back but I would change up my order a bit. I was super excited to try this restaurant and ended up being disappointed in the end. I ordered the oxtail and the goat and they were both tough, the Mac and cheese was decent but a tad on the dry side, and the cabbage didn't have any flavor in my opinion. The presentation of the food was amazing but the taste wasn't good. Also the plantains were dry - they weren't ripe enough to fry. The rice and peas and beef patties were delicious though. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant but their customer service was somewhat good. The young girl working was very nice but talked extremely too fast and messed up my order. I love to give my people (Jamaicans) a try but i was truly disappointed in this place. I will go back and try it again - maybe today was a bad day, but no time soon. read more
